2 chicken kebab with grilled veggies and bread.
David G.

Working out here, we came for lunch. Food is cooked fresh. Tastes great. Nice char on the food gives it extra flavor. Good price too!

So I told my friends to come here because I thought this place was Rose market. But apparently, I made a mistake because I didn't know they had burned down and rebuild. Well, regardless I told them to buy steak, koobideh, chicken, veggies, Jalapeño and it did NOT disappoint. Everything was delicious even the lavish piece under the meat was delish. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the canned hummus and babagnoush. Other than that we had a great meal. It did take awhile but totally worth it. I like to add that their grillrd tomatoes were done perfectly. We will be back!

Decided to give this place a try since we were having a family dinner. Called in my order and picked up half an hour later. I didn't realize the hummus and baba ghanoush were canned so I skipped those. My order was ready when I arrived. Koobieh: 3/5 meat was undercooked in the middle and had strong lamb flavor. Chicken skewers: 5/5 well cooked, flavorful. Not dry. Veggies: 5/5 good! Rice: generous portions. They have lots of lavash with the meat. $62 for 5 koobideh, 2 chicken, 2 rice.

Beef and Lamb kebab, chicken kebab, and chicken skewers

Soooo delicious for an amazing price! Called in advance for pickup and was told it'd take 25 minutes. Parking is very limited in the front but you can try for street parking around the corner of the storefront. Beef and Lamb Kebab - on the drier end compared to the chicken skewers, but so good! Lamb taste wasn't very strong. Chicken Kebab - this grew on me as I ate more of it. Lots of flavors in this one! Chicken Skewer - Super juicy, but also so salty! Really nice char on this one, the edge was crispy! I like the variety and had a hard time picking my favorite type of kebab. I also love that they provide bread as well. I used some of my own Toom garlic sauce to eat with the bread and it was phenomenal. Will definitely be back!

This one was pretty tough for me because I was either going to give this place a 2 or 3 star review. I came inside and the place was empty. Shelves were empty, the entire meat freezer was empty, and there was no one around. It was ghost town basically. Other than about six fans spinning around, that's it. I was waiting around but no one came out. Suddenly, I see a guy who just sits down in his chair, texting, etc. I call to him for some assistance and he just looks at me with confusion. I tell him I'd like to order some food and that I need help in the front and he slowly walks over to me and oddly takes my order as if he doesn't understand anything I'm saying. It was a weird experience I'd say. My order came out fresh: 1 beef koobideh, 1 chicken breast tikka, 1 mixed vegetable, and lavash. They ran out of rice so bread was my only choice. The food was delicious and the meat was juicy. This was a solid price at $16 so there's complaining here. Sure, the food is good but the market itself is empty with no groceries. The desserts even look old; not sure how fresh these were. I'm still debating whether to come back or not...

Chicken kabob and chicken skewers with lavash breads
Arvind S.

Really really solid (halal) chicken kebabs at such nominal prices. I'm rating it 4 for the food and taste but it's absolutely 5 for value for money. Prices have increased slightly from the menu listed last on Yelp (by around 50 cents) but incredible value, no kidding. For the price, you get the kebab and a whole lavash bread with it. Probably not enough for a whole meal but accompanied with some additional carbs, it's a perfect post workout meal at a great price. Marination is good, it's a little mild for me at times from whatever I've tried thus far but that's totally okay. I've tried the chicken kabob, the chicken skewers and the spicy Lahori chicken tikka and I'd rate all of them 4/5. The halal chicken was good, tender enough. Usually the oil falls off on the lavash bread and the bread becomes a little soggy which actually makes it taste good. They sell rice separately but I've never gotten that. Order ahead because they typically take 25 minutes to have it ready and also don't take order 30 minutes before closing, so don't leave it too late. Cash discount so carry cash if possible. Parking available outside. It's inside a supermarket so it's only takeout of course. I've never shopped at the supermarket itself, only been here to pickup the halal food. I think it's family owned. I will keep coming back for those post workout pickups

Koobideh kabobs with rice and grilled vegetables
Tamar L.

Super tasty kabobs. Koobideh kabob was well spiced and expertly grilled. Veggies were fantastic. Rice was undercooked, which can happen sometimes -- might have been an off day. They don't offer hot sauce, but luckily the grilled tomatoes were big and juicy enough to accompany the kebab so it wasn't dry. Take out only. Ordering by phone was seamless and my food was ready when I arrived 15 min later.

Chicken, grilled veggies, lamb, steak with rice.

I drive by Al Forat on my daily commute from work. Upon my surprise, it had nothing but good reviews. The pictures alone looked amazing and was enough for me try for myself. I ordered an order of the steak, lamb, and chicken with grilled veggie and rice. It was 10/10. Incredibly fairly priced and the food tasted so authentic and fresh.

Very tasty meat. Great service.

Very tasty meat. Great service. The meat is soft and the marinade is very tasty. I often buy lunch here.

I am always in search of great Middle Eastern food. Recently, I came across a few pictures of Al Forat Market that intrigued me. Further research revealed that they cook their food over charcoal, which is rare since most restaurants/establishments use gas grills instead. That's it, I'm sold. I came here on 07/30/2022 at around 4:45 pm. It was a bit hard to find since they occupy a tiny space near the southeast corner of Wolfe and El Camino Real. The owner was taking an order over the phone when I walked in. I took the time to look around and found the interior to the clean. On the left side, there was a fridge storing all kinds of homemade desserts. Several shelves full of Middle Eastern items took up the middle space. In the back, there was a small meat counter selling beef, lamb, and veal. The owner greeted me after hanging up the phone. He was friendly and soft spoken. I later found out he was from Iraq and has been running this market for about two years. After I placed my owner, he and one of his relatives went straight to work. Here's what I got: - Beef and Lamb Kebabs (x4) - Chicken skewers (x4) - Lahori Chicken Tikka (x2) - Barg (x2) - Grilled vegetables (x2) My order came with three servings of lavash and a bag of herb and mixed green salad. The total was a very reasonable $75 (I got an extra bag of lavash too). My order was ready at the time promised. Everything was packaged neatly. The food was absolutely fantastic, even after a 45-minute drive home! All the meats were well flavored, tender, and juicy. The kebabs, made with beef and lamb, were not gamy at all. The chicken skewers and barg (sirloin steak), marinated with saffron and other spices, were very flavorful. The Lahori chicken tikka had a nice hint of spiciness. The portions were very generous. We had enough for three meals. If you are looking for great Middle Eastern food that is delicious and inexpensive, look no further! They have definitely earned my business going forward. 5 stars! BONUS MATERIAL: - There are parking spots out front. - Major credit cards accepted.

Chicken kabob $3.99? Ground beef and lamb mixed kabob $3.99? Get out of here! Only a handful of parking spots in front of the market. Only been here once, during midafternoon weekday. Ordered the chicken kabob, the beef/lamb kabob, and the vegetable kabob. 30 minute wait despite no others waiting in front of me. Next time call ahead. Kabobs come with a layer of bread on the bottom, and the meats covered by aluminum foil. We took them home to eat. 10 minutes later back at home, we immediately eat the meats with cooked basmati rice. The chicken kabob is very dry, as all the juices are soaked into the bread, and bread and kabobs don't go well together. The beef/lamb kabob is juicier, probably 90% beef with little lamb taste. The vegetable kabob with onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes is on the blackened side, with a strong charcoal taste. Overcooked. Meals come with a salad, mostly parsley, with some mixed lettuce. End up tossing half of the salad as inedible, even to the wife who eats all types of greens. Despite the shortcomings, got to give 4 stars for incredible value alone. Well worth it if you can figure out how to back out onto traffic on busy Fremont Ave, making a left turn without bumping up your auto insurance rates.

One of the best kebabs in bay area. They make all kebabs fresh to order inside in their kitchen and is super affordable. Dining restaurants charge $35 for the amount of meat you can get for $10-12. They also give free bread with the kebabs. Absolute gem. Parking is limited. Only one feedback i want to add is for them to add mint chutney on side.

Ligia M.

This is where the locals come. Take out can take a while... Dinner can take up to 20-25mins, depending on how big your order is. We enjoy getting their kabobs and picking up fresh baklavas from the market. The meat is cooked to perfection and it's always delicious. Market has a variety of grains, cookies, dates, desserts, etc.

Left to right: mixed veggie, lamb liver, spicy lahori chicken tikka, kabob (ground beef and lamb)

We only picked out a stable: American wagyu. The meat looked pretty good with marble through out. Surprisingly when put in hot pot it shrinks into a wrinkly ball and also turned black. I have never seen a meat like that (also we only buy hot pot meat at Nijya and their quality is great). Taste wise the meat was quite tough and stringy and has a gamy metallic after taste. In the pictures the kighter hotpot meat is from costco and the black ones is from Meat House. Costco one tasted much better. At this point im not even upset about the money spent just upset that our hot pot night was kind of ruined. Service is ok. Kind of straight forward. You picked the meat and pay and leave. There are also combos and happy hour items, so I'm sure there is something for everyone :). Servers are very nice and knowledgable of the menu. They are helpful and made our dining experience great! Food quality is superb, and one of the best qualities of meat for AYCE! Left feeling very full and happy My tips: make a reservation as it can get busy on the weekends.

We decided to go with the premium AYCE for $68 pp. Your party gets to order 2 orders of meat pp to start off with and then it is one order pp per round subsequently. There is the usual 90 min time limit before you're cut off. I have to mention, I'm a big fan of Ushiya so came with preconceptions. First and foremost, meat quality is amazingly good and the portions are large! We actually only got through 2 rounds (3 plates of meat) per person before we were tapping out. The wagyu fried rice was delicious and I enjoy all their appetizers and sides. The home made kimchi, marinated cucumbers, seaweed soup, egg yolk dipping sauce, all delicious! Service got alittle slow when more large parties came but once they were settled with their order, service picked up again. I wish they had a qr ordering system to request items, that is one thing missing. Overall, loved dinner! My boyfriend and I ended up here after attempting to go to Treehouse nearby (which had an hour wait--unsurprising given the concept). This restaurant was a short walk away, which actually worked out well given how congested the area was, and we walked in optimistic. The space itself is very large, but nearly empty for a weekday evening. It felt family-owned and casual, which I usually love--many of my favorite restaurants fall into that category. Unfortunately, the experience didn't reflect that warmth. We were given a different menu than other diners, which immediately felt odd. Service wasn't overtly rude, but it was noticeably unwelcoming--almost a "why are you here?" tone rather than hospitality. We ordered hummus and feta, both of which were surprisingly expensive for the portion and quality. We were told bread would arrive automatically with the hummus, but it didn't--despite asking multiple times. When it finally arrived, it was poorly cooked and no longer served any purpose, as we were already well into the meal. Despite the restaurant being far from busy, our mains took about 30 minutes. One dish--a kebab--was fine but very forgettable for a $30+ price point. My dish, dumplings in a yogurt-based sauce, was honestly inedible. I left it untouched and mentioned that it didn't taste good. The response was simply, "Oh, so you don't want a box?" No attempt to fix the issue or even acknowledge it. What sealed it for me was the overall condition of the place. Dirty cutlery, a generally rundown interior, and a lack of attention to cleanliness made it uncomfortable to eat there. I'm not picky about ambiance when the food and service deliver--but here, nothing quite worked together. The whole experience felt very turn-and-burn, as if the restaurant relies on proximity to a popular area rather than repeat customers. I left feeling like unless you're part of a specific in-crowd, this isn't a place that's trying very hard to win you over. Personally, I wouldn't return, and I wouldn't recommend it--especially given the pricing and the many better options nearby.
