My wife had tried three pediatric dentists in the area, but none had been able to keep him from dissolving into hysterics. When he left for an appointment with Dr. Pamela Hom last week, I feared for the worst. Upon return, however, I was informed that (although he still was scared and it wasn't easy) that Dr. Hom had been able to fill the cavity, and that *they hugged* at the end. When I asked the little guy how he was, he said he still felt funny in his mouth, but that he was OK. I asked my wife how it went, and she laughed a bit. Apparently, Dr. Hom had come into the reception room after it was done and flopped onto the couch. "We got through it, together' she quipped. I truly believe that the first experiences a child has with a dentist cascade for decades throughout their life, and we are so appreciative that Dr. Hom was able to connect with my terrified child enough to let him know that they DO care, they WILL help, and that they will get through it . . . together. The day before, I received a voicemail saying I needed to call to keep the appointment; I listened to it after work. Rather than show up for my 8am appointment the next day and risk finding out it was given away, I cancelled, leaving a voicemail explaining why. Three weeks later, I received a call about my "no show." They're so difficult to reach by phone, it seems the office is only open when someone has an appointment, or the admin assistants don't work full time. If you call, you get an auto text.

There's a running theme in the way Dr. S manages her practice as it's run with long time, dedicated, kind employees. Brandon, the hygienist, I give tons of praise to! He does our whole family's cleanings. He's patient, very dedicated to his craft, gentle, he gets all the junk out & is thorough. I have a small mouth, so chickens out there, he's very gentle. My oral hygiene improved after he started doing my cleanings, as I floss more. They r ok if I don't do X-rays every yr. Prior to him, I had Phyllis do my cleanings for 15+ yrs, she was personal, kind and very thorough w cleanings. Long term office staff, Kathy & Sherrie are top notch, just the best people...kind, patient, understanding, personable, & accurate. We switched our kids from a pediatric dentistry practice down the street and our kids say the cleanings @ Assabet Dental are more thorough and the hygienists pay attention to you (and not to ea other and talk over you). Other practices advertise a lot, but don't treat you like a human as Assabet Dental does.

I went in for the first time on Monday, as I moved from CT and needed to find a new dentist. Dr. Tutin had such good reviews I figured I would give them a shot. They are both very sweet ladies. I sat down for less than 10 seconds before I was brought to the room with Emily, who was another very sweet woman. My teeth were still sore 36 hours later. It wasn't a bad sore- it was one of those good sores when you know they really did a good job! Now here's where the fun comes in.. after Emily was finished, she brought in Dr. Tutin, who was extremely nice and seemed genuinely interested when asking me questions about my life as well as my past dental history (obviously). He also noticed on my chart that in a couple days I would be celebrating my birthday... and not only did I get a sweet new toothbrush.. but Dr. Tutin gave me another gift for my birthday- tickets to my favorite sports team and favorite place on this planet. And the fact that at first he was okay with very limited X-rays and then the next appointment he wasn't and was much more aggressive... tells me it was more about the money and not really that something could go horribly and inexplicably wrong without X-rays. I always found him a bit aggressive... maybe short-man complex... but, in fairness, he was a good dentist otherwise. Good luck.

At our recent cleaning visit we did X-rays and was told that our child had 4 cavities AND needed a crown!! Now she brushes her own teeth and prob doesn't do the best job but this seemed a little excessive so I brought her to my own dentist for a second opinion. When I showed him the X-rays he didn't see anything that needed a crown.... When I pointed it out he said "oh that's a filling.... Maybe she isn't comfortable with fillings so she prefers crowns but I would definitely do a filling there..." then I ask about the 4 others and he said he only saw one other spot that we could either watch and wait or do a small filling now.... Otherwise it was just the shading!! We will be doing the filling with him and then finding a new pediatric dentist! Dr Connors was always great but this new company is in my opinion sketchy. This was just our recent experience but I had previously heard things about Smileland so I wanted to to share.
