I am giving a 3 star rating only because last night was the 3rd time I have made a reservation for a specific table and did not received table requested. I made last nights reservation a month earlier and called to confirmed this week. Not only did they not have my reservation when I told the manager all she said was oh well it was a busy week with Valentines Day and walked away. We did get a table but was disappointed in our greeting and location of table in a busy area back by the bar. The food and service is great but don't bother making a reservation if they have room they will but you where they want. read more

I have been here more than a handful of times and not once has it disappointed. Everything has always been wonderful! I recommend the flaming cheese for an appetizer as it's fun or the triangles because they are delicious. They also start you off with pita bread and hummus. With dinner, the avgolemono soup and a salad are provided. ( once I brought a client here who was from Greece, born and raised until 17, before moving to the US. He said the soup tasted just like how his grandma made it. Such a compliment! ) I have had multiple dinner options and they have all been delicious. Most recently was the Pastitsio, which is like a lasagna and it was so flavorful, the first bite really wowed me! Dinner also comes with a side of fresh steamed vegetables, some potato and risotto. You actually get quite a bit of food for the price. And if you saved room for dessert, you can't go wrong with any of them. And there is also a nice wine selection. As my wife and I hadn't been here for a while, we went out for a birthday dinner last evening. Better than I remembered it! George, our server, was very helpful and attentive. I dined here after seeing the words "filet mignon" and "chocolat" in the same dish (on their menu), and the dish DID NOT disappoint. In addition to being one of most flavorful cuts I've had in a while, each entree is preceded by a soup (a delicious lemon/egg/orzo soup last night) and a salad (with choices of dressing). Those were delicious, the service was exemplary and I will definitely dine here again the next time I'm in Appleton. But even getting there at 5pm, the restaurant filled up fast, so I recommend making a reservation. read more

Absolutely phenomenal! My wife and I went here on a Friday evening for a date night. We've got two children so date nights come few and far between. We wanted to try something different than your typical steakhouse or fish fry. We had reservations for 7:15 and got there right at that time. We were seated within 5 minutes. The staff was very friendly and inviting. The ambiance is perfect for a nice, relaxing dinner. The waitress was very friendly and knew the menu very very well. She almost knew the questions we were going to ask. They're known for their seafood and lamb although; my wife and I were afraid to try the lamb, unfortunately. Their lamb comes from Australia, which I hear is much better tasting than domestic, as they're raised with more natural foods. We had filet mignon and ribeye. It was cooked to perfection. The three courses were great. They had some soup that was a lemony type soup. Very good flavor. Overall, if you're looking for a nice, quiet evening, this is the perfect place. We took a group of 6 clients to dinner here on Tuesday night. The service was great and the atmosphere was nice and professional. We started with the meze for 3 and saganaki. Both dishes we very tasty, I would highly recommend the meze. The dish was large and a great size for our group. For a main entree I had the lamb tenderloin saffron. Atmosphere: Be prepared to hear everything the table next to you is saying, very tight quarters in here, which is understandable since they are so busy. Dim lighting, rustic feel. Clean table when we were sat down and we were greeted at the door. Service: Our waitress was fairly attentive, there were a few times that she would go MIA for a good 10 to 15 minutes but she had quite a few tables. She was very knowledgeable about the menu. I highly recommend reservations or you will be waiting for a while-one group was waiting at least 35 minutes at the door because they did not have a reservation. Food: All dinners are 3 courses, soup, salad and entree. I had in addition to these three courses an appetizer, the octopus. The octopus was very, very tender, but I felt the sauce was a bit much, it took away from the excellent cook of the octopus since it was so potent and bold, it took the attention away from the star of the dish. The egg and lemon soup was amazing, I've never had a version of that recipe so elegantly presented, just the right amount of lemon, orzo and creaminess. The salad was well put together and you can tell it doesn't come from a bag. You have the choice of 2 dressings, a cream feta based dressing and a red pepper dressing. The entree I chose was the spinach pie. I felt it was a great portion size, and the puff pastry on top was very crispy which added texture to the dish, but I felt the filling was lacking seasoning. The vegetables served with the entree were cooked a little al dente and were not an overcooked pile of mush like most restaurants. My boyfriend enjoyed the lamb a la creme but we both agreed too much sauce for the lamb, but it was cooked to perfection. All in all we will most likely be back. I chose this restaurant as a last second surprise, based solely off of other reviews. The wait staff were very friendly and our waitress was probably the best I've ever had. The food was really good! You're served bread with hummus. To me the bread had a charcoal flavor but I liked it more as I ate more (3/5). The meals start off with soup (3.5/5), which has a lemon flavor. The salad (3.5/5) comes next and there are 2 dressings to choose from-I combined both and that seemed best. The main course comes with a 1/4 potato, some cuts of carrot and and chunk of broccoli, including stalk. Everything seems to be cooked with an open flame/grill. For an appetizer, we ordered the Kalamarakia (squid steak) (5/5). The squid had nice grill lines and I felt like I could have ordered 3 of these as my only meal. The portion was a decent size for 2. As my main course, I ordered the Mixed Grille (scallops, shrimp and lamb tenderloin). You get 2 jumbo scallops with the shrimp wrapped around them in a lobster sauce. The scallops were cooked perfectly. The lamb had a balsamic reduction-type sauce which could pass as a very good bbq sauce/marinade. My girlfriend's main course was the Mediterranean Grouper, which is a marsala-type meal. She loved it and didn't expect it to be as good as it was. Nothing was bad about this restaurant! I went to this restaurant with my sister and my 91-year-old mother. My mom is 100% Greek American. My sister and I are half Greek. We have eaten at this restaurant 20+ times over the past 12 years. Never have we been forced to eat a three-course meal over those years. Yes, in the fine print on the menu it says they can force feed you, but it has never been enforced. When we showed up last October 2022, we ordered a $30 bottle of wine. We wanted to order two $30 appetizer plates, plus another $30 bottle of wine. So the restaurant would get their money's worth. But, no. We had to force a three-course meal on each of us, including my elderly mother. Well, no. We left, and will not return. Terrible customer service. Terrible restaurant policy. read more

This place is a hidden gem in Appleton. The food/atmosphere is top notch and the service is excellent. The prices may seem high but keep in mind dinner also includes an amazing cup of Avgolemono soup and a Greek salad, I've never left this place hungry. The lamb is always done to perfection, I highly recommend trying whatever their lamb special is for the night but you can't go wrong with the lamb saffron or rack of lamb either. This is upscale Greek food. The table is served bread and hummus to start. I wish that it was pita to be honest. The bread was okay and the hummus was fantastic. We started with the flaming cheese appetizer. The showmanship of the waiter lighting it on fire was the best part. The cheese was hard to eat and for $9 it was just average in flavor. The rest of the meal made up for this though. I ordered the stuffed shrimp and my husband ordered the flaming rack of lamb. Each meal comes with soup and a salad. Soup was light, lemon flavored and completely refreshing. The salad was a typical Greek salad with some excellent homemade dressings. You have the choice of two or you can mix them like I did. Then came the entrees. My husband loves a good show so they started his lamb on fire before they cooked it and brought it back to cook. I actually loved his entrée more than mine. The lamb was perfection with a mustard sauce. My shrimp should have had the shell removed I ended up eating a hard shell on accident before realizing they were still on. Since it was stuffed with scallops I could not see this. The flavor of the shrimp was really good though with a creamy filling. The sides of carrot, potato and rice paired well with the seafood. I came here for Valentines day and my gf and I had a good meal. I'm from Chicago and I was staying at a nice bed and breakfast called "Franklin Street Inn." The owner (Judy) recommended Valentines dinner here and although the food was great......the atmosphere is a bit stale. lol. If you are over 35, this is a nice date place.....but if you are younger, I would stay away. It's a bit stuffy here. Great food and service though! read more

Yeah, this place is good. Writing reviews for restaurants like this is tough because you have to keep coming up with synonyms for "delicious," and even then they're pretty boring. So here are some uncreative ways to talk about a delicious meal: I'm going to talk about the bread. Normally I don't even bother talking about bread, but the table bread they bring out here is phenomenal. It's a feta bread with an olive and artichoke spread that is to die for. Fantastic. It sets your expectations for the meal pretty high. The soup was very good. It was a creamy, lemony soup that I can't remember the name of. I think I've had it once before and I don't remember it being nearly this good. I didn't finish it, though, because I didn't want to ruin my appetite. Salad was fine, it was a salad. You have the choice of two yogurt-based dressings that are fine. My entree was grouper with a tomato-y sauce, mashed potatoes, spinach pilaf, and vegetables. The vegetables were fresh, the rice was nice, the potatoes were real, and the fish, of course, was delicious. It was nicely cooked and seasoned and the sauce was tasty. In bigger cities a meal at a place like this would cost an arm and a leg, but at Apollon I had a fantastic meal for what I thought was a really reasonable price. My entree (which included bread, soup, and salad) plus a glass of wine was a little over $30 including tax and tip. On the recommendations on Yelp and other review sites, my husband and I headed to Apollon for our splurge dinner while in town during AirVenture in nearby Oshkosh. We weren't disappointed--it more than met our admittedly high expectations. Ambiance is pleasing, with Greek music playing softly in the background and an overall noise level that allows for conversation without having to raise your voice. Service was attentive without being overly intrusive. We ordered the flaming rack of lamb dinner, the priciest item on the menu--but as it comes with soup and salad, quite reasonable by San Francisco standards (that's where we live). The soup is a house avgolemono (Greek egg-lemon soup), and it was delicious-- better even than the one I make at home. I love lemony foods, and this was right on the mark-- tart without becoming bitter. The salad was pretty typical, except you get your choice of two house dressings. I took the feta cheese one, my husband the more traditional vinaigrette-- both we're excellent. The waitress then brought out the lamb racks so we could watch her flame them with metaxa (a Greek brandy or cognac)--very theatrical. She then returned the dish to the kitchen so the chef could finish the Metaxa cream sauce, delivered within a couple of minutes in its own dish along with the racks, now surrounded with roasted vegetables (broccoli, asparagus, carrots, zucchini stuffed with couscous, and a hunk of potato), a rosemary branch, and a couple of small lettuce leaves. There were even a couple of lemon wedges, something I usually have to ask for. The presentation was impressive, but even more so the sauce: While creamy, it was not too rich. I wish I had the recipe! Spooned over the lamb with a squeeze of lemon, it was nothing short of heavenly. I would return to Appleton just to have it again. Also enjoyed the reasonably priced carafe of house merlot. My husband and I have been regulars at Apollon since it opened. We were even regulars of the prior Karras' restaurant which was much more of a Greek diner. The Greek specialties are the heart of the menu, but the signature dishes are the real stars. Don't let the "Greek" turn you off. The menu features steaks, chicken and seafood that should satisfy anyone. My personal favorite is the Mixed Grille which has lamb tenderloin, grilled shrimp and scallops. My husband goes for the flaming rack of lamb most visits. The specials tempt me quite often, especially the seafood options. The lamb dishes are always tender and succulent, never gamey. My son had a girlfriend who swore she hated lamb. She ate some of the lamb tenderloin from his plate, not knowing what it was and was hooked! Don't miss the appetizers. The grilled Kalamarakia puts fried Calamari rings you get at many restaurants to shame. The Saganaki (Flaming Cheese) satisfies the pyromaniacs in your dinner party. Desserts are also great, but we are usually too full after the bread, Avogolemono (a divine Egg Lemon) soup, Greek salad and our entree. I generally end up taking half of my entree home. The servers know the menu and much of the preparation intimately. If you have special requests or allergies the wait staff and chef work with you to prepare the meal you need or want. The level of service reminds me of many fine European restaurants. Crisp linens, unobtrusive delivery and great attention to detail are the rule. A little showmanship goes along with the flamed dishes and never fails to bring a smile to your table and those surrounding you. Stavros Kodis has developed and maintained a fine dining establishment that we can count on. It is our go-to destination for special occasions and when we have visitors we want to impress. If you ever get to Appleton Wisconsin, you really need to try Appolon. While the exterior is very unassuming, and the interior is a bit kitschy, the food is absolutely first rate. When I first walked up to it, I thought I might be going into stereotypical Greek Gyro restaurant. I could not have been more wrong. The food is absolutely amazing, prepared with an immense amount of care, and nearly all of it (including salad dressings) made in-house. I can honestly say I have never had a better prepared lamb dish that I had there, and the service was even more remarkable than the food. If you have not yet found this gem in the middle of Appleton. Apollon continues to set the standard by which I judge other restaurants which is about as high if praise as I can give them.
