I finally tried this restaurant after working in the area several years in a row. Complete letdown. I ordered the chicken cordon bleu. It was an unseasoned chicken breast with a ham slice and cheese slice on top with some weird hollandaise sauce. Bland rice pilaf. The string beans were actually good with nice flavor which is why I'm leaving 2 stars instead of one. The price for a meal where the only thing I could eat were the string beans? Almost $30!!!! I walk in and the decor totally matches what you would think an Apple Annie's should look like. The service started out great, but by the time it was ready to go, I had to ask for a box twice and my check 3 times. The food was mediocre at best. I got a piece of coconut cream pie to go. We love to stop here for breakfast or lunch on the way to Yosemite or Sequoia. The food is always tasty, the service friendly and the place is fun and quirky. It brings a smile to our faces every time. It's pretty cool that a little restaurant can create such fond memories. And because they're right off the freeway in in Tulare, it's easy to get in, relax and enjoy and get back on the road. Apple Annie's is always a fun anticipated part of the camping trip. We were driving back home from our weekend in Yosemite and started to think of a good place to stop for lunch. We saw the Apple Annie's billboard and said. Why not! It was just as I expected it to be. Cozy non pretentious road diner. Clean with very kind and friendly staff. The place was full of kitschy vintage memorabilia and a cute motorized train that went around the restaurant. We split the fried chicken meal because we knew it would be a huge portion. We were right. The fried chicken isn't what you'd expect. It's better than you can ever imagine. It was a flattened chicken breast that was breaded and fried served with a thick yummy chicken country gravy and mashed potatoes. Wow! We were thinking about how we were so glad we saw the sign and decided to eat there. This will def be a stop for us on our way up north for future trips. The coffee wasn't great. Most places have bad coffee but it's because they skimp on the grounds. Please don't cheat on the grounds. Coffee is best when it's nice and rich with flavor. I am from Bakersfield, drove up and met my sister here, as she was traveling. I can't say one bad thing about this restaurant. It has a cute "grandma's house" atmosphere Big props to grandma who keeps all her shelves of Knick-knacks (and the restroom) dusted and clean! The food. We didn't see it on the menu but they do have wine and bottled beer. I ordered an Ultra and it was super cold. For Dinner she got the fried chicken, I got the cordon blue. Great home cooked meal from grandma with a loaded baked potato and green beans. Sister got mashed which came with a craveable gravy. We were there to visit so we ordered the apple pie burrito with a side of vanilla Ice cream. It was piled high with whip cream. Next level cooking. Who knew grandma had so much talent!? Food was okay, the waffle was dry, cold, and hard to even cut. As for the omelette, we asked for avocado but it was cooked inside the omelette which we thought was kind of weird since the avocado was hot and a bit slimy due to the warmth. Biscuits and gravy were very good. I honestly would come back and give this place a try again. They had many options and the servers were very nice and attentive to us, so it could have been because they were very busy this morning. I went most of my life seeing the Apple Annie's sign on the side of the freeway whenever driving north on the 99 fwy. Finally one morning my husband asked if I'd ever eaten at Apple Annie's. He was shocked when I said no and said we had to stop as he had eaten there often when living in the area. Service is always great here. The wait staff is always very nice, and food is always served quickly and hot. Not to mentions this place has some of the best hash browns I've had. They are always super buttery and crispy! The Apple muffin is absolutely amazing. If you're very hungry and looking for a hearty breakfast this a great spot to try. read more

I agree with Daniel's Review. (Below) I've had breakfast there a few times. Their omelettes are like a Frittata. Over cooked, dry and brown on the outside. I ordered mine with ham, mushrooms and Spinach. The server had trouble writing down my order, because it wasn't on the menu. Technically you have to order what's on the menu. You can't pick your own choices for your omelette. The spinach was frozen spinach not fresh. The cook put so much frozen spinach the omelette almost turned green. The hash browns were very greasy. Most all the vegetables are canned. Very little are fresh at this restaurant. The food is sub par. Very mediocre and pricey. The Best part of Apple Annies are the servers. Very Friendly. I would give the servers 5 stars Food 2 stars Yet Apple Annies get excellent reviews. Go figure. read more

This is a classic looking and feeling diner; it was adorable and filled with knickknacks. Got there right as they opened; the waitress was friendly and attentive; and the place (including bathroom) was very clean. The problem with this place was the food was incredibly mediocre, especially for the price tag. I got a veggie scramble and was appalled at the amount of salt I had to add to the dish to taste anything. Actually, I did taste a lot of raw onion, so much so that I ended up picking out most of it. Why the onion hadn't been cooked before being mixed in with everything else is very confusing. I don't know if it was an off day for the cook but everything tasted bland, seemingly no seasoning added whatsoever. Gravy, biscuit, and potatoes included. I'd like to say it was just the seasoning that was off but the cooking wasn't much better with (again) raw onions and an overcooked scramble. Sadly, my husbands breakfast was no better. read more

At some point, we all looked at each other and decided we couldn't eat anymore because the food didn't taste good. I made the mistake of trying to finish my plate and paid the consequences with a sore stomach for hours. The people here are nice. It's the food. It lives up to every stereotype you have about diners. Everything is "meh" at best, with soggy apples doused in sugar as their namesake. Disappointed. I'm not even sure what to say. First time here and definitely our last. Only good thing about our visit was our server, she was pleasant. Our food was not even mediocre. I'm wondering if the kitchen staff ran out of seasoning or if it's just something they choose not to do. My pork chops were bland, no seasoning, overcooked and some sort of light breading made them mushy and left a greasy residue in my mouth. Hash browns were not cooked, they were raw and just fell apart on my fork. Kids pancakes were precooked and reheated making them spongy and rubbery. Eggs had absolutely no flavor. My wife's chicken fried steak was overcooked almost burnt, again with absolutely no flavor. Tables were greasy and dining room was very hot and muggy. Way over priced for food way below mediocre. I also have to add, you can buy a latte at Starbucks for $4. Why am I buying a black cup of coffee at Apple Annie's for the same price. No Bueno! read more

The service here is just amazing. Everyone is really friendly. The seating is very comfortable. A nice peaceful place to eat and I would so love to give them a 5 star, but the pancakes were flat and rubbery. But there are so many choices that look so good. Tons of Omelets and Burgers. Some Mexican dishes and so many Dessert choices. The Huevos Rancheros was terrific. The Popeye Omelet was also. The third person in our group got a salad, also very good, she wanted to substitute Salmon for the Chicken which they did at a very reasonable upcharge. The Pecan Pie is fabulous. The Banana Cream pie and the Apple Pie were as well. I wish I had not ordered the pancakes. Then this would have been a really terrific dining experience. But I love Pancakes. So I order them at every Diner I go to. These made me sad. So. Come to Apple Annies. Order anything other than the Pancakes and have a great comfortable dining out. read more

What a fun place to visit on the road. They have a cute train that goes around the dining area. And the decor and amusing. I selected the chorizo and eggs breakfast special. It was delicious and enough to satisfy my hunger. The server, however, kept walking fast up and down. But when I wanted a refill for coffee, she was no where to be found. I love this Restaurant! I've practically tried everything on the Menu and it's all delicious. Their ranch is very unique and always tastes magnificent. The workers are all super nice and helpful and I never have to ask for a refill. The bus boys are on top of it and always staying busy. With that the restaurant and bathroom are always clean. It is a dinner style restaurant with daily specials. I'm in California doing disaster relief for a couple weeks which has given me the opportunity to check out a few places. This is my favorite casual dinning, great food and service place I went. The food was fantastic. I especially enjoyed the daily specials and the soups of the day. The prime rib daily special was so good. Wasn't expecting the tenderness or perfect seasoning. The ambiance was topical dinner type. Cool train running around in the ceiling, comfortable booths and nice warm lighting. The Waite staff made me feel right at home in a strange city. Gave me great suggestions on places to visit and they were spot on with the menu suggestions. My coffee never got low and somehow I was convinced to get a desert with each meal.
