Stopped by yesterday for the first time. Had read all the wonderful reviews. Was told it would be 20-30 minutes. We're seated in about 30 minutes. Waitress took our order. Said it was her last day. 45 minutes later half our order was delivered by another waitress. 30 minutes later I got the original waitresses attention and asked about the other half of our order. She was surprised it had not been delivered. Finally got the remainder of our order. Total time 2:00 hours. Food was so so. Found out new owners bought the place in August. I've said it before and I'll say it again SUPPORT LOCAL SMALL BUSINESSES! We found another diamond in the rough. Rockport Texas is continuing to thrive after Hurricane Harvey. The Apple Dumpling Deli did not disappoint us. It was crowded on a Tuesday during lunch. You can seat yourself or call in for an order to go. The menu is full of delicious food. I had the Our Famous Rockport sandwich. It is homemade egg salad, bacon, avocado spread, lettuce, and cream cheese on fresh toasted sourdough bread. Holy cow this was delicious! We also had a traditional BLT which was served on sourdough as well. We were so full that we will have to return to try their Apple Dumpling dessert. One recommendation would be to add a server or 2 during peak holiday times. Which is a good thing, it's shows the business is thriving! This was during the 4th of July week. This review is based on my low key/go with the flow personality. If you're needy and are wanting the waitress to attend to you're every need, this is probably not the place for you. The Apple Dumpling Deli is a nice little place that has a diner type feel on the inside. As I walked in, I noticed that the shop was fairly busy so I just sat back and watched. I wasn't sure if i was supposed to seat myself or if a hostess was going to sit me. After about four or five minutes, I asked and I sat myself. There was only one table available that had just been used (table was dirty) but that kind of stuff doesn't bother me. I got a fresh cup of coffee that was okay, not the best, not the worst. I added cream and sugar and it was just fine. I ordered the potato soup and reuben sandwich. The soup came out first and I think I'd score it 7/10. I had to add cheese, bacon, salt, and pepper. After that it was good! The sandwich was great! I wouldn't have changed anything about the sandwich. The waitress was nice. The only time she came to my table to was bring my food and to take my plates. I was not offered a refill of coffee, but again, that kind of stuff doesn't bother me. Overall, it is a nice shop. I work within walking distance so I believe I'll be come back often. P.S. as I was typing, she offered me more coffee :) My total came out to 12 something for the half sandwich half soup and a cup of coffee. Hope this helps. read more

I used to work at this place in 2002. It used to be so good. I was excited to visit again. I was pretty disappointed. The potato soup was bland. The waitress was not personable. The sandwich was okay thanks to the cream cheese. The place is expensive as well. 2 cups of soup, 2 half sandwiches and 1 grilled cheese was $50. Definitely not worth the price. Will not be back. I can make a better sandwich at home. No thank you on the free meal. I appreciate you taking the time to respond. The food was just not great. Even paying $30 for what we ate was not worth the price. Disappointing!! Waited well over 45 minutes for food to arrive. Wait staff was not helpful or overly friendly. Reuben was okay, but the amount of meat in one sandwich was comparable to 1/2 of what is typical for any other deli. BLT was good but not worth the wait. They ran out of tea and didn't want to make more because it was to close to closing time (12:30 and they close at 2:30) They started turning people away at 1:15 because they ran out of bread We were so excited to try, will not be on our list to go back to :( read more

Came for a working lunch meeting with co-workers. Parking is limited and I took the last available space so plan ahead. Did not have tables set up but they did not seem to know we were coming. Wooden bench at the tree trunk section table was not rear end friendly. Metal utensils, real plates, paper napkins. Took drink presets and entree orders pretty quickly. Ordered the #10 Trio Platter with Fruit Salad and egg salad, $ 9.95 Everything was very good. Bed of lettuce was warm which did not bother me but might freak some people out. The reason I only gave 3 stars is My lunch listed a muffin was included. The waitress told us they burned all the muffins and never offered any further information or to substitute anything for it??? She also came in repeatedly during our meeting interrupting us to ask questions and other things forcing us to stop in the middle. Came upon Apple Dumpling Deli and so glad we did. Staff was warm and welcoming and the food was amazing! We had the lunch special, which was a half sandwich, bag of chips and a drink. The "half" size was bigger than most other deli sandwiches. My husband had tuna, now not just tuna, but it had celery and cranberries in it... it was fantastic. I had the same special but I went with the Reuben on pumpernickel. Best Rueben I have had in the three years I have been in Texas. Did I mention that all the bread is baked fresh? Yup, fantastic. Blanca, our waitress came out with soup samples for us. Split pea and ham and loaded baked potato soup. I had the potato and was thrilled with it, the pea soup is my husband's favorite and he said this was exceptional. Be sure to stop in for a great lunch, you will be glad you did! read more

We are here for lunch & loved it! We wanted a nice, quiet sandwich shop to eat lunch and this place was perfect. I ordered the San Francisco Turkey and it was so good! I was hesitant bc of the cream cheese, but the thick bacon and fresh tomato and Turkey made it perfect. My bf got the Italian and he really enjoyed that as well. So in this pandemic era, many restaurants in Rockport are not yet open for dining, which, frankly, is just fine with me--because I want to be safe and not sorry. Not to worry with the Apple Dumpling Deli--they're open temporarily from 11AM to 6PM with the FULL menu for curbside pick-up. Our order took less than five minutes to fulfill, and it was just as good as always. My husband got the Jalapeno ham and cheese sandwich and substituted Swiss cheese for the cream cheese. I got the Southwest Salad and asked for extra dressing, and they happily complied. Incredible service, freshest food EVER. The sourdough bread, by the way, is to die for. I just keep having high hopes for this place. I love sandwich shops and miss having the options. But everytime i try this one, even after months, I am always left hum drummed. The staff are always nice and the service depending on the time of day can be hectic. I have had several different things from the chicken salad sandwich, southwest salad, broccoli soup to hot Ruben sandwich. Each time i feel that i am.missinf something and it's the unqiuenes and love. I want to eat a sandwich that is different and inspiring! I know that a lot of people like love this place and that's great. But I can go.to HEB and.pick up bacon, sourdough bread and an avacado and make a pretty mean sandwich with flavor. When a place has the word "Deli" in its name, I expect a few things. I dropped by for a "to go" sandwich. They did not appear to know how to process the order. The sandwich options are very limited. When done, my order sat for a while because the person who took the order didn't ring up sales and the cashier was busy talking at tables with friends. When he finally did ring me up, he charged me $8.25 when the menu price was $7.50. When I question this, he reduced the price to an eve $8 saying he would eat the change. Strange? On a cold, rainy day during our most recent stay in Rockport, we decided to try the Apple Dumpling Deli. Another visitor at our hotel recommended it to us the night before, and we were not disappointed. We arrived just as they opened and were pleased to find a friendly doggie at the front of the restaurant (she belongs to the owner) who greeted us with a doggie grin while she finished up her snack. The owner was a very friendly guy and he told us to sit wherever we wanted and then proceeded to entertain us with stories about the restaurant business. The server was also exceptionally friendly and quick. The menu is extensive...many different sandwiches, salads, soups and other items to choose from and they all sounded good. Now...the food: in a word...awesome. They make their own bread here and it is the best bread I've ever eaten in a restaurant. Light, fluffy, but still substantial. Hubby and I both chose the lunch special that consists of a half-sandwich and a cup of soup. You get to choose from any sandwich on their menu, so I had the grilled cheese with ham and hubby chose the "Rockport": egg salad with avocado and bacon. We both chose the baked potato soup. Everything was wonderful and fresh (in fact, the server told us that it might be a minute because the chef was still preparing the egg salad). After lunch, we had an apple dumpling to share which was delicious. The cost was very, very reasonable for the quality of food and service we received. Do note, however, that they do not take AMEX (which is what I use most of the time) or Discover. Just Visa and MC. We get to Rockport as often as we can, and we both agreed that we have found a new favorite spot for lunch at the Apple Dumpling Deli. read more

When visiting Rockport for a week, we found ourselves wanting to return here several times. This place is only open from 10-3 daily. During the hours that they are closed, the owner is busy baking all fresh, home-made breads for the day, and preparing everything on the menu from scratch. My favorite entree is the "Light Lunch", a half-sandwich (but as big as a "normal" sandwich) that comes with their home-made soup of the day or a salad. I have become addicted to their Waldorf Chicken Salad. They also make the BEST home-made ice creams- they are such a treat! The atmosphere is casual with cute cafe tables, yellow walls, and orange-and-white flooring. warm and inviting. The staff is very friendly. You feel like you're visiting friends who really want you to enjoy their food. We will return next year when in town!! read more
