We needed to buy a $1100 laptop for school projects. Getting customer service (someone to walk into the back room to pick up said computer) for such a simple transaction was remarkably difficult. We didn't need lots of salesmanship or explanations. We just wanted someone to walk into the storage area, get the computer and then take our credit card. The person in the front of the store was manning the front of the store. The person at the back of the store was able to talk with us about our need for help but was unable to help. Trevor, what an awesome employee the Santa Rosa Mall store has in him! My story: Yesterday while towing my trailer towards the Mendocino Coast where I planned to camp for a week, see friends, have them over to the campsite to see the trailer, and cook them all dinner...My brand new, had if for less than a week, iPhone quit working. Ugh. I was near a town with both Verizon and Apple stores. First I went to Verizon Kiosk in the Santa Rosa mall and explained my iPhone DIED... (as that is who I bought the phone through), the oh-such-a-good-listener of a clerk said, "you have to use your phone and call 611 for support". I explained, again, that the phone was not working in any fashion at all...saw that he had a landline on his counter and asked if he could call Verizon to help me..."sorry that phone isn't for customer use. You'll have to call them yourself". Ugh, I explained AGAIN, that I was traveling, had no phone ('cuz it died) and the clerk again said, "you have to call them yourself." ARGG!!! On a whim, I went to the Apple store where a wonderful clerk, Trevor, tried to reset my phone several ways, apologized for not having the same phone in stock to trade me...then set it up to have a new phone delivered to my bestie's house since I am traveling right now!!! And he moved the SIM card from the non-working iPhone 7Plus over to my "old" phone so I am not phoneless/mapless while I am on the road!!! read more

Purchased a new MacBook Pro from the Apple Store in Corta Maders in June. The computer started crashing in September. I brought the computer to the Apple Store in Santa Rosa because the only appointment I could get was at this store. The tech said he would have to check the computer in fro a detailed diagnostic. It was last in the day on Sunday and I could not leave it and I was traveling the next day for a week. The tech suggested I completely erase the SSD drive and reload the software. I did so and the computer still had the problem. The next Sunday I returned and explained that erasing the drive and reinstalling the OS software did not help. After the tech checked a few things, he explained to the manager the issue I was having and they replaced the computer with a newer model and sent me on my way. Great service and Great out come. Terrible support. Came in for an issue with battery life and phone's touch display, which has been extremely poor. I am traveling from East Coast and am desperately needed to fix the phone. Ran a diagnostic and did not find an issue. I requested to replace battery anyway due to safety concerns while traveling and tech refused because it battery didn't fail. I have 6 apple devices and am not only shocked that a Customer can't pay for a repair, but they experienced the touch display issue and then told me it didn't fail when they ran the diagnostic. I will not be be purchasing the new iPhone 8 as a result in a few weeks. Emily, the individual that checked us in was very welcoming and extremely helpful. She also experienced the touch display issue and reminded me to have the tech check it. Mostly..shocked that I shared that I am traveling and have safety concerns and still refused to repair. Worst customer service experience I have encountered at any store - I have never left this location feeling good about my visit. Genius Bar always overbooks appointments and is woefully understaffed. When you finally do get seen, the "geniuses" rarely are capable of providing direct answers to product issues. Corporate-drafted scripts will be recited to you, regardless of situation, and the "solution" will be to have you leave and return at a later date after the issue persists (which of course it will because nothing was done to address it). Maybe, after several visits, someone will actually appear who can solve the problem. Products themselves are generally of good quality to where, thankfully, you're hardly ever required to go in to the store. Nevertheless, nobody at this abysmally managed store shows any regard for a customer's time. read more

Apple salesperson, Ms. Donna lacks product knowledgeable and definitely need customer service training ... On Friday, 12/14/18, I made a stop at the Apple Store at the Plaza Mall in Santa Rosa, CA. There were a few people in the store, but nothing I would call busy. After inquiring on an iWatch to one of the salesperson, who doesn't seem to want to talk, and was rather looking bored, referred me to the girl at the front of the store to register. Register??? What??? Why??? Anyway, I went to the see the gal and took my name down and about my inquiry. In the meantime, I've asked 2 salesmen re: the iWatch and seemed to have knowledge about the watch but couldn't assist me. After waiting nearly 40 minutes, salesperson Ms. Donna approached me. Donna, who looked so tired was not in the mood to talk or sell me the iWatch, I asked her 2 questions, and did not have the answers for me, and each time she looked away from me. Really??? I'm looking at a watch that is almost $600 and Ms. Donna was not in the best mood to sell the watch. Note to Apple: People who come to the store are likely to make a purchase and there's nothing more disappointing than trying to work with a salesperson who does not represent or does not want to work, is a disgrace to the Apple Store. I was merely asking about the features of the iWatch and Ms. Donna could not direct her attention to me??? My best guess tells me ... she was not knowledgeable about the watch, and a $600 lost sale is not a big deal to Ms. Donna, but it should be to Apple. I said my thank you and prepared to leave the store. I, turned back around and ask for her name, and her reply was ... who? me? my name? Yes! Thank you Brendan for being an awesome and honest Apple Employee. My little brother came in before and asked to get his phone battery tested. The women who helped us did not tell us that my little brother's phone screen was lifted which was caused by the swollen battery. We came back a couple weeks later because he was tired of having to carry around a battery pack with him. Brendan helped us this time. Instead of telling my little brother that we had to purchase a new battery for $79, he was honest and told us that we just need a new phone. Instead of having us spend hundreds of dollars on a brand new phone, he offered us a "new" (used) iPhone 6 they sell and we paid $79 for the phone. read more

Terrible store in all respects... go to corte Madera instead as they couldn't be worse than Santa Rosa.... staff is not educated enough on their own products... a lot of people standing around yet service is slow and again uneducated... or rather totally wrong information on their own policies and products. Decided to try and take care of business by phoning directly to he store and was told a manager would call me back within the 1/2 hour... no phone call ever came.... I read all of the reviews before taking my Macbook Pro in for an upgrade. My MAC is 7 years old and except for the fact that I can't install the latest version of iTunes due to the OS being out of date it runs like a dream. I was worried they wouldn't be able to help me because when I took my iphone 4S last fall and the tech was completely unhelpful and I ended up having to go to the Verizon store to buy my phone and ended up without Apple Care, due to some incorrect information given to me. This time around my experience was quite a surprise- the tech who assisted me at the Genius Bar - Trevor paid close attention to all of my tech issues and requests and really helped me. I had to leave my MAC overnight but after working with him I felt confident that my tech problems would be resolved. The next day I was assisted by Steven and he made sure that everything was in working order. My only problem was that I had imported all my photos from my phone and I thought I was finished so I told him to go ahead on as his shift was finishing up. Then I realized that I didn't know how to delete all the photos from my phone after I imported them - it's a new system after all. I asked one of the people working at the store if she could help me get a little assistance with this and instead of saying "I don't know how to do that let me get someone to assist you" - she said "just delete all those photos with your finger on your phone" SERIOUSLY, I want to sit there and delete 400 photos by hand when there is a smart way to do that? The girl who didn't know anything wasn't trained properly - I didn't care that she didn't know, I care that she wasn't smart and wasn't trained to let someone know that she could help by finding a tech who could help me. So all in all I'm giving 4 stars because the techs Trevor & Steven I worked with knew what they were doing and if they didn't know the answer they knew how to find out. I too my MacBook Pro to the Genius bar for diagnosis, I was kept waiting half an hour, after I inquired as to what was happening a guy showed up and when I started explaining the problem he told me to be quick as he only had 15 minutes. He then said he needed to take it in the back. He came back with pictures and said it was water and food damaged, the boards were fried and it was beyond repair but he could recommend a data recovery firm I took it home and took the back off, guess what not a bit like the pictures he showed me!! I took it to an authorized Apple repair store, problem bad hard drive, replaced works fine. I guess they are just trying to sell new hardware or don't employ competent trustworthy people! read more

Poor handicap accessibility. I came here with my client and while the service was decent (polite amd friendly, if otherwise practically nonexistent) they had us waiting more than half an hour (the text we received telling us they were ready showed up and THEN we waited). Their stools are too high for my client to safely sit on and the little cushy seats by the table are far too low for an adult let alone a physically challenged individual to comfortably sit upon. So for half an hour, my client continues to lean on the table, with her bad knees bearing her weight, and when I asked where our help was, they said the technician already clicked us as served. Had iphone 7 broken home button, went in to repair they actually broke the phone to point it does not work, and gave me a refurbished one instead that a day after have battery issues, went back to talk to them for a refund was told that they will need the phone back keeping my old one that had a home button issue and the refurbished one, then i will get a refund for the repair that didn't work.. called apple care they tried helping by calling the store, and said the store is to decide what to do they have tried to help me but the store manager did not agree.. I came into the store on a Sunday-one of the busiest days of the week. No appointment, so I fully expected a wait time because I needed a repair done. The employee at the front was super nice. She took down my info and let me know it would be about 30 minutes and that I could roam the mall and be texted when it was time to return. I didn't wait more than the quoted time. There was some lag/additional wait time once I got there but I wasn't mad because it's a busy day. A very nice employee named Cami helped me with my repair issue. I decided to upgrade another phone while I was there. During my wait to see a sales associate, another employee came over and did a whole educational segment on the iPhone models. He was super nice, even shook my hand when he left. During my wait time an employee even came over to me to let me know she would be with me soon. The sales associates that helped me with my upgrade had a lot of patience and were nice as well. Overall I'm super happy with the quality of service and the atmosphere at this Apple store. Although I did have to wait, I felt like it was reasonable based on the fact that it was a busy day and I had no appointment. read more

I had an appointment, showed up 5 minutes early and was seen on time The employee didn't let me finishing explaining the issue and cut me off and told me he knew the fix. I could understand if i was going on for a minute but it was about 10 seconds into stating my phone's issue and he cut me off...it was just rude. When I went to pick up the phone, a different employee handed it to me. She just wanted me to sign and leave. I explained I needed to make sure the phone was working and she said they didn't do anything to the phone but fix some touch screen thing so if the phone was now not functioning, it wasn't from their doing. Turns out the "fix" caused some of my apps to not work so I had to delete them and then re-upload them and now my phone works fine. So as far as fixing the issue, they did and did it on time...5 stars. It was the customer service part that really made me not want to go back...1 star. so, I gave them 3 stars in the end. I was told that it would be extremely hard to do (it's not) and that my simple questions could not be answered in an appointment. Horrible horrible horrible. Called the store number 30 minutes after opening and was on hold for 20 minutes and nobody picks up. It kept prompting. So finally i arrived at the store and walked in. They told me i had to make an appt to have my phone checked and it'd be 1.5 hours to come back for that appt. but i already had an appt to go to. Why couldnt' i just "drop off" the phone since i'm there already. I lost the appt since i wasn't able to hang out for 1.5 hours or so 'on call' til they text me. So, on another day while back at home at a local mall, i walked in (this was early Saturday am). Again, similiar deal. they didnt' even have a walk-in appt. She made an appt 5 days out! Wow. i asked how long would the phone appt take --15 minutes!! Clearly, you guys need to hire more ppl if it's that hard to make an appt and there is such a demand for appts. If I didn't see the familiar blonde wood tables and the large apple logo, I would swear this is a fake Apple store. Is anyone at Apple paying any attention to this "smallest store in the world?" I usually go to the SF Apple store on Chestnut -- always a pleasure -- professional, attentive, efficient staff. But this store in Santa Rosa -- of the 20 staff on duty on a recent Sat morning, 15 were doing nothing. Three people raced to check me in out in front of the store then told me I'd have to wait 45 minutes to get assistance. I bought a Macbook then was told, with the same 15 people in blue t-shirts wandering around, I'd have to wait 45 minutes for one of two "set-up" people to do the quick review of my new Macbook. 30 minutes into my wait, holding my new Macbook, five Apple staff linked arms behind their backs and did Chorus-like line dance in the middle of the store. Turns out one of the dancers was the very set-up guy I'd been waiting for. No one seemed to be in charge, and the usual excellent service I've gotten accustomed to in SF was non-existent in Santa Rosa. If there was any other co offering Apple products such as a Macbook, I'd give them my bus...I guess I'll just have to avoid this store. New manager??? read more

GO TO THE PHONE REPAIR KIOSK FIRST! The touchscreen on my iPhone6 started acting erratically, so I visited my provider, Sprint, to see what could be done. They told me that because of Apple's privacy practices and a minor crack on the edge of my screen, they were unable to open my phone and I should check in at Apple before resorting to buying a new phone. Without an appointment my wait was about 90 minutes. When I was finally seen, the seemingly knowledgeable girl ran a couple of diagnostics for "multi-touch" and "phantom touch" and said they came back negative. She suggested we back up the phone and do a hard reset because it was likely a recent upgrade over a too-slow internet connection that was causing the glitch. So we did that. It took probably 40 minutes. When I left, the touch screen seemed to be working. An hour later, the same problem had returned. Two days later I returned to the Apple store, again without an appointment, this time because there were no appointments available, so I was prepared for the wait. The girl who had helped me previously had said that she had made notes regarding my phone, so if I needed to come back, they could quickly see what was going on. These notes were not consulted before I was sent off to wander the mall for another titillating 90 minutes. When I returned to Apple it took them 2 minutes to look at my notes and tell me I needed a new phone. Really??? You couldn't have spared me the hour and a half and checked the notes first? So I trudged back to the Sprint store. They kindly looked into all the options and suggested a buy-one-get-one-free deal they were running, because I had mentioned needing to get a phone for my dad. But in order for that to work, I would have to turn my old phone in in good condition, so why don't I visit the phone repair girl across from Victoria's Secret. The young lady at the kiosk deftly opened my phone and declared the touchscreen disconnected. She put it back together, charged me nothing, and it has been working ever since. I can only assume that Apple's only function is to sell you more sh*t. It is extremely disappointing that they would waste my time like this and not even attempt to fix what is likely a common problem. Shame on you, Apple. read more

Update on my memory debacle. I ordered the memory from apple.com, went to install the memory myself only to discover that even the smallest philips screw driver I had would not fit in the screws underneath of the battery so I'm like ah whatever - I trust the Apple store and their experts installing it more than I trust myself anyway. So I go down there. Go up to someone, tell them what I need. Alright. He's in the back for maybe 15 minutes and comes out and says, "bad news, the memory is bad" and I'm like "what? really? cause I just ordered it from Apple - it just came today" and he's like "oh, well yeah, it won't boot" so I'm like, "well, do I just ship it back or...?" and he said "yeah, I guess they'll take it back" and I'm like, "well yeah I hope so $100 for DOA memory" So I called up Apple to do the return and all - probably half an hour on the phone and two people I talked with said, "and the store didn't initiate this return for you?" And I'm like no! So, they were going to send me a return label - said it would take up to 72 hours. Okay. In the meantime I'm like.. I wonder if they just installed the module on top of the other one instead of taking the other one out........ because my computer maxes out at 2GB and if you install a 2GB module on top of the 1GB of course it won't boot. I ordered a Mac toolkit from Amazon - got here in 2 days. Opened up the Amazon box, cut open the tool pack, flipped over my laptop, battery out, 3 screws, pulled off the cover, pulled out the module, pushed in the new one, turned on the computer..... and it WORKED! This is a SIMPLE upgrade. I can do it! SIMPLE SIMPLE! The fact that this APPLE STORE couldn't makes me very wary of ever taking my computer in for serious issues again. read more

i am specifically reviewing the genius bar, and the management. First, i ha an appointment at 4:20 today and was not seen until 4:50. What is the purpose of an appointment system if you are still forced to wait a long time. rediculous. Second, as i was explaining to the "genius" how my phone was not working, (my screen clicked when i pressed a certain area, and the touch feedback was unresponsive very often) he first said that he could not replicate the problem of the unresponsiveness. and started making me feel like i was crazy, even after he had heard the clicking himself. once finally he realized the unresponsiveness, he finally decided to go through wight he warranty help. hie stated that i needed a new screen and it would take an hour to replace. heres where my first problem began: i don't have an hour, especially after being forced to wait an extra half hour with an appointment. next there were various scorches online that they have came in for the same reason and the fix did not work., they offered to schedule another appointment, only probably to be subject to the same nonsense. every other time i have had a problem, its usually fast, painless, and apologetic. this time was slow, rude, and did not care that i was experiencing problems. the guy next to me had a firm stance and said that they are not leaving with a new phone since this was the 11th time their fix didn't work. forgive me for not wanting to be subjected to that, i wanted a new phone the first time. iv always thought that apple had better costumer service than this. they have always had no problem swapping out the phone and fixing the old one and selling it or whatever they do with it. but for some reason, maybe its because they have a new phone coming out, that they think they are the top of the food chain. but being rude and making the wrong decision to satisfy your customers JUST BECUASE YOU CAN is not a way you should manage a store. Heather was the name of the manager that was rude, unhelpful, and didn't not care about my specific complaints. Jake was the "genius" that made me wait 30 minutes after my appointment and made me feel like i was crazy about the issues with my phone. i expected better than this from apple. those employees are a bad seed in a large apple orchard. read more

Maybe it's because we are in our 60's but we felt marginalized and treated like we were stupid. And when I went in just to buy a lap top (I knew what I wanted when I went there) I had to wait in several lines and finally, after two hours, was able to purchase the laptop. Some of the folks working there were kind, but overall the experience felt demeaning and a bit belittling (because of our age?) to the extent that my husband says he'll never buy a Mac again. (We are not new to Mac. We currently own five and have always used them for our home use and our business. We are not idiots when it comes to Apple Computers, but we are older.) We have moved to the area from San Luis Obispo, California, where we had a Super Mac Store. There we were treated with grace and with dignity. However, at the Santa Rosa Apple Store, it felt like we were on a conveyor belt and that they were trying to cram as any people as they could through their store-- and beware if you are older and aren't 20 something. If I hadn't been a Mac user for 30 years - we got one of the first ones when they came out - I would switch to another brand because of the demeaning experiences (twice now) in this store. (I may yet do so, if this store is the one that I have to deal with in the future.) read more

There's no doubt you are a leader in the technology space but please don't let your ego stop you from checking on your customers who on average are speeding $650 on up on a iPhone. This is not including buying a case or your Apple Care. Now let's talk about the Apple Care. I go into the store after spending 1 hour on your online chat and not getting my phone fixed. You direct me to your Santa Rosa store to get it replace and I'm told that my phone may need to be cleaned and since they can't duplicate my phone going blank between calls they will not exchange my phone out. Now why did I pay for Apple Care? That was a waist of money. After the clerk says she can't do anything because if the phone shows no issues there store will be charge a fee. Well what is the fee you are both billions. Billions. I have three iPhones, 4 iPads, 2 watches, 2 Apple TV's a MacBook Pro and I can get a phone exchange that has Apple Care. Are you serious. So far there will be no iPhone 7 for me nor will I update my watch. As soon as I find out which non Apple phone I'm going with my car is going over to Tesla to change out the iPhone cable. Staff need improvement on their Customer Service Skills. Thankfully the store has relocated to a much larger location at the Plaza. However, it is still packed, and I have never been seen on time at the Genius Bar from a reservation. I wish the CEO's or manager of the Apple Store would do some intensive training for their genius techs on customer service. Several times that I have been in, the guys seems to start off on the offensive and insinuate that the customer might have caused the problem with either accessories or the computer. Seems one has to be a squeaky wheel to get the grease as playing Mr. Nice Guy will only get one out the door with less money in their pocket. Despite having purchased Apple Care they make things a bit unpleasant by saying things such as, "this time...." " usually we don't do this..." . Each time they do satisfy me in the end but not without making it look like they are doing me a favor. After purchasing a few Mac Book Pros, I Pads and several Iphones,Really? I think the staff need training and need to realize that the customers are the ones enabling them to have a job. We are actually the ones they work for. Perhaps they need to be trained on customer service by the staff at In and Out Burger or the Verizon store on 4th street. My advice is get rid of any cocky attitudes, and one that assumes the customer is usually wrong, stop trying to get a new sale from the customer who already paid through their teeth for the products. It might help to acknowledge that some of the products are cheaply made like the very flimsy and narrow cords of the chargers/Adapters that will eventually deteriorate with normal wear and tear. Wise business sense is to please the customer because it cost a lot more to lose a loyal customer and get new ones plus a disgruntled customer will share their sob story with at least 10 other family, friends and co workers and this negatively affects the business. When all you had to do is please one customer in the first place. This is Business 101. read more

Starting with not having nametags... Having a ton of employees and none of them ever making eye contact with you... To finally upon speaking with one, an employee, she didn't exactly give me the warm and fuzzy happiness that I was appreciating in Apple retail about a year ago. I think I see a decline in the personal service that's made the retail shopping at Apple so special and I miss it.
