It's very disappointing going to a store for help with a product you paid $1,500+ and are made to feel like an idiot. I've had much better service here in the past, but this last time was horrible. I will not be purchasing anything here again. The employee "assigned" to me was the most rude and condescending employee I have ever heard. She makes DMV workers seem nice. There were a couple of times, as she was explaining something to me, I needed to clarify if I understood correctly. (since I'm not an expert or why would I be there) She responded "Are you going to listen to me or interrupt?" I was dumbfounded, but thought "Surely I just misunderstood her tone." So I said..."Ok, go on" Again about 5 minutes later, I wasn't quite understanding what I needed to do....and wanted to clarify. I said, "Oh, so are you saying.........?" To which she replied "If you're going to keep interrupting...I'm going to leave and go help someone else". I left feeling completely irritated and not sure at all what I just spent 45 minutes listening to. I figured it out on Youtube later. The Apple Store in Corte Madera used to be friendly and very helpful. After buying a Mac, two MacAir, two iPads and all the iPhones models from them, I find their service is getting worse and worse. Making a one to one appointments at this store is joke. First, there are extremely few available. When you do get one, the trainers are so inexperienced that they either spend half of your time going to ask some one else or simply says that it is out of my expertise. Now you can not find a one hour one to one training sessions. They used to have a few great trainers, but they all left. Now I am hiring them at $85/hour to train. With so many upscale customers in Marin, you would think management would pay more attention to this store. This store is going down the tubes!!!!! read more

It seems their carry very few models in store and if you want something other than the bottom tier you'll need to order it from the Apple website. Arrived at my Genius Bar reservation on time but waited 15 minutes. So much for reserving a time. The technician looked at my iPhone that is not holding a charge and, without any testing, told me it was corroded and would be $199 to replace. I explained that it never got wet and I keep it in my pack or pocket when outside. He pointed to the port where a little white flaking and insisted it was corroded. Nothing they could do. $199. I decided to investigate myself. Turns out that both my charging cables went bad at same time and nothing wrong with iPhone. So glad I didn't listen to technician. My 2013 iMac was out of warranty when it turned off and wouldn't turn back on. I brought it to the so called geniuses at this store to be told 3 days later it will need a new power pack and logic board which would cost somewhere in the region of $900. I thought the hell with it I'll just purchase a new one next week and sell this one for parts. Back at home unable to erase the hard drive before selling for parts I YouTubed how to remove the hard drive. (To protect banking details Etc...) Once I had the computer opened up I noticed it was dusty in there. I blew the dust out, pushed on some connections and for the sake of it I hit the on button. Well low and behold my iMac works once again. I'm an average joe who works in construction and I fixed my iMac for free and some common sense. I have been in this store on three occasions for different problems and on each occasion the staff have been unhelpful and have always tried to fix the problem by having me buy something. Most recently (first week of december), when my MacBook stopped recharging, they assured me it was the battery and made me buy another one, despite the fact that I was still within the time limit of the AppleCare for the laptop. This did not work. They then assured me it was the power supply (plug) and again, made me buy another one despite the fact that it should still have been under AppleCare. Finally I went to the Stonestown Apple Store and they reimbursed us for the battery, reimbursed us for the power supply, actually took a look at my laptop (novel freaking idea) and figured out it was one portion of the power supply that was faulty, replaced it for free and fixed the problem under the AppleCare free of charge. The Corte Madera Apple Store is a NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, every other Apple Store in the bay area is better. I been to all of them and they are ALL better than this one. OK, I have to admit, I am an Apple fan. I love the design and usability of their products, the integration of software and hardware across multiple devices, and the attention to giving me the tools I need to do my job(s). But I am wondering if the company's arrogance is getting a little out of hand, with the potential risk of them alienating the core-group of devotees that supported them through those days at $4/share. A recent example heightened this impression. I had just taken delivery of some nice, shiny new Apple equipment (I now need a bigger desk) and realized that I needed new speakers. A quick walk through my local Best Buy and Staples brought home to me how bad the design of speakers is, even today. Lots of black plastic and exposed components. Awful speaker shapes - absolutely zero taste. Nothing there for me. But hey, I remembered, my local Apple store carried speakers. So I drove down to Corte Madera to take a look. As usual, the store was seething with people of all ages, shapes, sizes, and profiles. But the number of staff in their trademark blue shirts was also disturbingly large. How many staff are assigned to Apple stores? Is there a science behind it? It seems to go against the spartan image that Steve Jobs always tried to maintain. As I made my elbow-bumping way to the back of the store, I noticed a group of gray-haired women, sitting in a circle, learning how to use their iPads from a blue-shirted "genius." I love that about the Apple Store. But when I got to the section where speakers were located, I was quickly disappointed; not by the selection of speakers, but by what happened next. As I justified a $500 purchase for some very nice speakers, another blue-shirted sales associate came in to view on my right, closely followed by a female customer. Without being asked, I stood to one side to give them room to view the same selection that I was looking at. But that, apparently, was not enough. The young sales associate gave me a less than appreciative look and asked to "excuse him." Hmmm. OK, I thought. He is just trying to do his job and deliver good customer service. So I excused him and stood off to one side, giving up all the space in front of the speaker bay to blue shirted sales dude and his customer. It turned out that she was shopping for some very small speakers for her son. The discussion went back and forth for several minutes and I basically stood to one side staring in to space, waiting to reclaim my spot and make a final decision on those $500 speakers. A glance over to the sales guy was met with a sneering glance right back. Great. The conversation between he and the customer went on, and on, and on. And, eventually, she made her selection: a $50 pair of miniature speakers in pink (for a son?). OK, I thought, now he will take her off to pay for her purchase. But no. Rather than let me back in to continue my shopping, sales dude removed his mobile point of sale device from his belt, took the woman's credit card, and started on the transaction while standing right where he had been for the past 8 minutes. Hating to be rude, I asked the customer, and the sales guy, if I could "please get back in there, now" to which he responded with a dismissive grunt, and gave me barely any room to get back to what I was doing. I ALMOST said "are you freaking kidding me?" (or something like that) but decided, instead, to leave the $500 speakers where they were and make my purchase from B&H PhotoVideo, thus also avoiding sales tax (which I will, of course, include on my next tax returns). It seems that Apple continues to hire staff for its stores in quite significant numbers. With rising numbers comes lower quality and this is becoming more apparent in situations such as this one. What added to the arrogance claim is that when I visited the Apple.com web site to find a way to submit comments on this experience, despite spending a lot of time looking for the right contact information, there was none to be found. It really is very difficult to complain about Apple. The products continue to be very good - great. But the consumer-oriented side of the organization wants to appeal to the masses - good for the bottom line but I do not want to be shopping at an Apple version of Walmart. On-line purchases, despite the shipping delay, are my updated preference. read more

I had to wait for 3 hours, only to be told by the guy at 'genius' bar to take back at home and come back tomorrow. The GENIUS told me that this was a common 'software' issue and the OS needs to be reinstalled, which turned out to be a total crap. He told me that the way he identified it is by seeing the usage time and the total time elapsed since last charge are same. Which was true at that time. I waited for 5 mins and showed him that the both these numbers differed, then he went on explaining about other silly things which turned out the be false. Since I come from the a IT back ground I was able to catch him lying to me red handed. But here's a small tip. DONOT EVER BELIEVE what they say. My wife's phone started show sim error so She took it to apple they looked at the phone and said yea can't fix it , but since you have apple care we will give you a new phone for little cost . Great you think? So they took her phone to the back erased all her content and just when she was giving them the credit card for the new reduced phone. Two apple employees came and stopped the transaction and said was your screen changed not by us!? And It also seems to have had moisture inside? NO PHONE FOR YOU! Unless you pay hundreds $ more. Oh and we erased all your content , pictures , contacts everthing and for some reason the screen does not work. And your back ups are not in the cloud. So here's your phone with nothing on it and really not working. Buy A NEW phone and reup your contract . ( which means we will lose our unlimited minute contract). I got my first iPhone in 2008. I have used I OS devices, Android devices and even a Windows phone briefly. I'm very tech savvy and can use any device that's given to me if I have to but when it comes to putting my money down the experience I had today at the Apple Store in Corte Madera reinforces why continue to stay with the iPhone And Apple products in general. I had an issue where the screen of my iPhone occasionally was non-responsive. I brought this up to Apple about six months ago right before my Applecare+ warranty expired. I was given the option of sending my phone in for a replacement for $75 but when the issue went away after an iOS update I decided not to send it in. Big mistake. A few months later the problem came back. I thought, now I'm screwed. I made an appointment at the Apple store and went in expecting to have to pay for a $139 screen replacement at the least. I explained the situation to Abraham who went to look up what I had told him. He verified my story, took my phone to the back of the store and emerged with a replacement. The cost? Noting! Now, I want all of the Android phone owners out there to tell me of a similar experience at the Android store. Tell me how you went to the Android store and even though your phone was six months out of warranty they gave you a free replacement. Oh, that's right. There aren't any Android stores. Silly me, I had made an 12:15 appointment elsewhere and had a hard stop at noon. No Apple tech. by noon. Okay, 30 minute wait. My Dr. , Dentist, auto mechanic, ... don't keep me waiting that long. Morale to the story. Lower your expectations of prompt service. Give yourself a couple hour window if you have an appointment (think Comcast, plumber, ...). The corte madera store is filled with blue-shirted employees but no one makes eye contact and no one asks to help. I'm so tired after pulling answers out of the genius who was supposed to help me at my appt, I don't feel like going into details. Went into Apple today as we are thinking about getting our 5th grader a phone on our ATT plan for Christmas. My husband and son spoke with Robert who recommended an iphone 6S. Later I went back in with my husband and son as I had some questions and Robert could not have been more rude and unhelpful. DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE IF YOU WANT ADVICE ON TWEEN PHONES. Robert was completely rude and condescending and would not answer my questions i.e. what kind of phone do you recommend? what do you know about Family Plans, etc? I really wish that, when you make an appointment, you get served on time. I feel sorry for the poor blokes who wait in line without one. My wife just needed to get a new battery (which was Apple's fault) and had to wait two weeks just for them to get the battery. Then when she went to get the battery replaced (a rather risky proposition if your phone is not backed up), they found another warranty issue and had to ship the phone to Austin which took another two weeks. I came in about a month ago because my shuffle was no longer connecting to my computer. The guys who helped me was awesome and I wish I could remember his name because he would be a good "genius" to request. Turned out that the shuffle was dead, but he told me I could turn it in and purchase the same one for $40. I couldn't do it at that time, so I waited until I could go back to the store. Flash forward to yesterday- I walk into the store, wait at least 10 minutes before anyone feels kind enough to grant me a look (I swear they drool over the people looking at iPads, and ignore the "unwashed masses"). When I finally get someone to help me, she rudely tells me that the other guy was wrong and that they don't do trade ins for Shuffles because they are so cheap. It would have been nice of her to ask if she could help me find something else or if she had at least spoken to me as if I were a human being, but no, that would have been customer service and they don't always do that. So, I will be getting the new iTouch Nano, but not at the Apple Store, just in case they work on commission. I would have given this review 1 star, but for the guy who helped me earlier. I've had good and bad experiences here. Good before, but bad this time around. I have and old iPhone3GS that has a battery that started to bulge out to the point that it popped out the screen. Last week I went on line to see what was going on and it turns out its a lithium battery issue and people said its a potentially dangerous issue. I have another phone that my 8-year old daughter uses (these were used as part of my business, now retired for newer iPhone). Went in with my daughter to set up an appointment to see what can be done and was pointed to the appointment guy who had a strong accent (didn't get his name), who seemed to be very busy. I showed him what the issue was and wanted to get a new battery. He kept interrupting, then saying that there was not much they could do about it, told me to wait while he attended to some other customers who were signing up, or picking up things. Meanwhile, another nice worker was showing my daughter some fun stuff on one one of the laptops (which was cool). It seemed to be a futile wait and I started to leave when he told me to hang on and wait, so I did. After attending to a few other people he came back and I asked what could be done. He looked up the model on-line and said they would have to order something, and that would be a replacement phone ($150), meaning I'd have an out-of-date product for $500 total investment. I expressed my concern over the price and the fact that I have another unit and wondered out loud would that have the same fate as this one, and mentioned I use Android phones that don't have this issue. At this point he seemed to get impatient, stated rudely "look, I've told you your options" and walked away to help another customer. I get it that they are busy. I get it that there are times where the product fails. I don't get being disrespected with the only options to either pay $150 for a 5-year old product or go away. Bad service with a tin-ear. Very disappointing experience. Brought in MacBook for keyboard replacement. Some keys were not working due to a child's milk spill. From the start, received a sales pitch to buy a new or refurbished laptop for $1+k instead of likely costly repairs - without looking at the machine. Staff took it in back for review and confirmed that after inspection, since it had milk residue on logic board, would require replacement of logic board and keyboard at least, starting $800+. He said Apple refuses to replace only the keyboard due to milk on the logic board. Instead, I took it to San Francisco Computer Repair and had keyboard replaced for $220. Repairman expressed surprise when I asked about logic board. "No, there was no milk there." read more

Bought the iMac with the promise of being able to plug it in and getting right to work. I needed to complete a 'Written Statement' for an application for a Master's program at Sonoma State; I was clear about my intentions about writing a paper to the 'Expert' salesman. It just so happened, sitting under the display table of the iMac, was a 'new' iMac ready to go. In retrospect, it is curious to me that that was the only 'new' computer any where to be seen on the display floor. Got home and plugged my iMac in but was plagued with hours of updates. Turns out the Mt. Lion operating system needed to be upgraded to the Maverick OS. Called the Apple store to talk to the 'Expert' salesman whom sold me my iMac, and though he gave me his card and said to call him with any questions, the 'Expert' that took my call would not let me talk to him because he was too busy. Why the paying customer is not given the courtesy to talk to the person whom sold them the computer is one of the worst customer service mistakes a company can make. The 'Expert' I spoke to on the phone ran interference so well, every concern I had, he expertly referred me to go visit this site, or that site, to resolve my problems. He was loud, verbose, and uninterested in being helpful. This 'Expert' did not even bother to ask if I had purchased Apple Care. Terrible customer service at the Corte Madera store. From the updates gone wrong, to the nightmarish 36 hours following-I was on the phone with Apple Care-I was finally given the suggestion by a Senior Advisor to return the iMac. i called and a lady picked up....I asked her a very simple question and she told me she would have to transfer me..i said no please dont i don't want to be transferred (all i wanted to know was if an order had been picked up at HER LOCATION which she could have checked in less than one minute..I know this because the Berkeley store was able to do this for me) she said oh ok no problem and then transferred me. Also a warning to anyone who thinks it might be a good idea to place an online order for delivery. DO NOT!!!! Apple does not handle the deliveries..the cheap ass money grabbing company decided it would be a good idea to outsource this service to postmates another failure of a company with horrible customer service so the delivery times that apples offers you ARE NOT REAL. Postmates gets to decide when your items will be delivered which has nothing to do with the time frame you choose on the apple website. I choose from 3-5pm and sat here waiting because you have to sign for it. 3 oclock past then 330 then 4 then 430 then 5 then 530 then 6 then 630 and still NO DELIVERY. they really expect you to sit there and wait until postmates decides they want to delivery it AND they chose to have it sent from a store in Corta madera which is NO WHERE near Berkeley so Im pretty sure what happened is that no postmates driver was willing to drive from Corta Madera to Berkeley OVER A $6 DOLLAR BRIDGE TOLL for the 9 dollars I was charged for the delivery. I wouldnt want to accept that order either! Also it was supposed to be delivered by 5 but at 630 it hadn't even been picked up from the store yet lolololol. After one of the "customer service" reps lied to me and said he couldn't cancel my order I hung up called right back and got a different "customer service" agent who after talking to for 35 minuted agreed to cancel my 13 hundred dollar order. I drove myself to the local T-mobile and bought an Andriod and don't have to deal with ANY of this s**t again :) Im sure there are people that foam at the mouth at the sight of anything apple and would be willing to literally sit and wait the entire day for a phone to be delivered so that they can sign for it but I am absolutely not wiling to. Also I know Apple doesnt care at all about a single customer like me but it feels good knowing I never have to deal with Apple again. They can keep peddling there behind the current technology phones and making it to where each year you have to buy new accessories because they made it tp where last years no longer work all they want. Im officially over Apple and it feels good.
