This was out 3rd attempt at eating at the Applebee's (Groton). We had some issue each time. 1st, food came out wrong, had to be returned, and waited 20 more minutes for correction. 2nd attempt to try their new specials, food was burnt and tried to cover it up with sauce and cheese. Gross. 3rd attempt, 9/11/2026, walked in, not very busy. No hostess at front, we waited to be seated, 10 minutes. Brought to a table that had dried food stuck to it. Moved our table. Ordered app of buffalo tenders, waited 30 minutes for it to come. It was chicken nuggets with hot sauce! As it hit the table, our main courses came out. Told them to take it back. When it came back, it was obvious that it was just reheated, and over cooked. Spoke to manager (and older woman, who came out of kitchen) not even observing the dining room operation. One word to describe our short experience at this Applebee's: irritating. We walked into this location as a last resort because everything else had closed early for the night. We were greeted not only by perplexed stares from current patrons and staff, but the blasting air conditioning as well. Looking around, you would think this location had just opened because almost all the tables were ready to be sat at. The same three waitresses passed us by, tending to other tables and just looking at us instead of finding someone to seat us. We waited at least fifteen minutes, standing by the freezing doorway, when at last, one of the waitresses (not the host/hostess) said, "I'll be with you soon." When she came back, she alerted us that there would be an additional ten minute wait for one of the clearly empty tables. We were beyond flabbergasted and we chose to save ourselves from spending money at a mid establishment. I would understand if the excuse for the service, or lack thereof, was being understaffed. But, we saw that extra staff were walking around towards the back of the restaurant the whole time we waited to be seated. Also, a simple "We are so sorry for the wait, we were busy" would have sufficed. But no, not a single apology was uttered for the ignorance these waiters showed us. I would give zero stars if I could, but I gave one star because they did the bare minimum and spoke to us. Do better ghetto Chili's. read more

Stopped in for dinner and were greeted after a few minutes. Finally seated and server came to take our drink orders. We were given menus, one regular the other their specials menu. We ordered from the regular menu, boneless wings, French onion soup and the 12 oz rib eye substituting onion rings for the baked potato and broccoli. The wait for the soup took awhile and when it arrived it was a half full cup of broth, a couple of croutons and a layer of cheese. Flavor was okay but probably would have been easier to tell if there was more of it. The chicken wings arrived at the same time as the soup even though it should have come with the other entree but my fault for not pointing that out. The steak arrived shortly after the soup did. Asked for it to be medium rare and it was just on the border of being that. Given how thin it was it would have been very difficult to make it medium rare. The onion rings were large and well fried. Steak was okay, not a lot of flavor and not the tenderest that I've ever had. Got the check and discovered that my substituting onion rings for my potato and broccoli would cause me to be charged not once but twice. Not huge amount of money but wouldn't have expected to be charged double. Overall I'd say it was a mediocre visit and not one that I would do again. Seating is a combination of booths and tables. Pretty comfortable. There is also a large bar area with tvs placed throughout the restaurant. read more

Decided to eat here since we were on vacation in Mystic but didn't want to deal with a long wait that night as we spent the day at the beach and everyone was hungry. I had a gift card because the ones back at home are no good figured it must be different. Restaurant inside and outside was clean . Not busy at all . Waiter not much personality. 2 order the burger special, 1kids meal, 2 fettuccine chicken parm ( however the new is spelled) and two garden salads . First no balsamic dressing . Server was quick to greet us and gwt our drinkn order. Althoughv the Mango Tea was lacking flavor and the Rasberry Lemonade was loaded with syrup sweetener. Sodas were ok. So the appetizer sampler was the highlight of the meal. The Fish was overcooked, the pasta seemed undercooked and lacking flavor. The steaks were ok. The food was good and my server was alright the only thing that I thought was weird was the misleading advertising they have on display at the table about a free drink. I had ordered from DoorDash and they forgot to bring a salad which isn't a big deal but my wife really wanted a salad so I called Applebee's. The manager was extremely pleasant and they told me to come in the next day and they would give me up a salad I just thought it was really nice of them because it wasn't really their fault. Worst experience ever. I've worked in the restaurant industry for many years and its just sad how incompetent people are. They refused to give me a drink because they said something about my picture didn't look right. Fine, whatever, I didn't need a drink. My partner and I decided to just get a water and club soda. Took about 15 minutes for the server to get it. Mind you there's about 4 tables total included us and he had one other that was finishing up eating, so it's not like he was busy. He finally came back with the drinks and asked if we wanted to put food in. We decided to put in an appetizer of the bone in buffalo wings. We waited about 30 mins for just the appetizer to come out and our server didn't even bring it out to us, he was too busy chatting with other workers. While waiting for the box I was picking at the chicken tenders, not wings like I ordered and the sauce didn't seem fresh, almost like it was sitting there for a while and then I felt the wings and let me tell you. Typical food; not bad. The nachos were very good. We went there because The Shack down the street closed early on Sunday afternoon. The restaurant is always clean. The wait staff is friendly. Plenty of parking available. They don't have menus. You have to look it up on your phone. One kind thing about this restaurant, though, is they honor veterans on Veteran's Day. I've never used this app before but after this experience I feel it's necessary. I would give 0 stars but 1 is as low as you can go. My friends and I went out for a chill night of watching Sunday night football, eating some half priced apps and having some drinks and they cut us off after we had a couple dollar margaritas which tasted like water and one beer. Not a single person at my table was even buzzed nor did we do anything that would warrant them to cut us off. The whole night it took forever for food or drinks to come out. Ok, all I wanted was appetizer and a couple beers. Barmaid was overwhelmed with 7 people at the bar. I ordered the endless boneless wings. I said didn't want the fries that are included, but I'll take the kids portion of Cole slaw that's included. First wings were in buffalo sauce, not a lot; but enough sauce; about eight wings. I said, where's the kids cup of slaw... She said on all you can eat, no slaw or fries after first order..... I forfeited the fries earlier and they can't put a kids portion of slaw on... Shockingly we usually prefer take out from Applebee's over area competitors 99 and Chili's. No fault to Door Dash. Fault on Applebee's Kitchen. In hopes staff wasn't negligent or lazy.... I assume they were out of queso and salsa since they weren't on our nacho order as described and usually provided. I'm guessing the two leaves of non chopped cilantro were all that was left. I walked outside for a minute came back in and asked a waiter that has worked there for a while who the bartender is and he said "those two". I asked the girl who has been making drinks and talking to everyone else if she can get me a drink and she said "I can't make you a drink I'm training". My issue with her is why couldn't you at least acknowledge me and say " hi, I'm training but we will be right with you"? Then the "real" bartender was too worried about inventory or something..she was counting stuff in the coolers..again, not good for business. Step your game up Applebees or you will be gone! Absolutely outrageous and definitely do not recommend coming here if you like getting your food in a timely manner. Went there for dinner . ordered chips and queso , it came with a small amount of chips and a small bowl of queso that was 1/3 full , I had to ask for another bowl of queso to have enough to finish the chips . and with our dinner we ordered the steak and shrimp special I even upsized to the 8oz steak , we asked for some honey mustard to dip our broccoli in . the meal was ok , but my surprise was when I got the check they charged us $2.79 for another 1/3 full small bowl of quaso . the original bowl should have been deep enough to dip a chip in . it was about 1/2 deep and to have to pay for a 2nd serving was ridiculous. and the biggest bullshit was they charge $.59 for honey mustard !! i know it's not a lot of money , but to get nickel and dimed for a serving of a condiment.. She was wearing a short Shield instead that left her mouth uncovered & whatever she was serving directly exposed to her breath. I had dinner here the other day. I ordered a Thai shrimp salad, which has surprisingly low calories compared to the other salads (around 400 I think). It was okay, I personally like Panera breads Thai salads better. Service was slow, as it was very busy that day. I think service could've been better. We would ask for drink refills and our server would forget, and it would come 30 mins later, or not at all. We waited at least 45 mins for appetizers to come out. We showed up at 9:15, very well understanding the covid rules of having to be out for the restaurant at 10 pm. We placed our order at 9:24 (our server was very polite and patient as it took us a minute to figure out what we wanted) and a minute later someone walked around saying 30 minutes. Jokingly someone in our party said actually 35 minutes. The person turned around and rudely said actually, you need to be out at 10, so it IS only 30 minutes. I get it. Covid restrictions are ridiculous, but the attitude was uncalled for ‍. She continued to complain loudly at the bar throughout the rest of our time there. It did take almost 40 minutes for our food and we ended up taking it to go. Our server was great, and the food was fine. It is what it is. But customer service should be more forefront. Server did not check up or offer a refill on drinks and to top it all off while eating food a spider land on our food when I asked for a manager the manager asked where is the spider what spider showed her where the spider was plugged the spider away and then still said what spider.
