So my husband and I frequently go for Bourbon Street chicken and shrimp, it's on the 2/$25 menu, this time the bill came and they charged us $36, in teeny tiny print on their new menu it says $5.50 up charge per meal, there is no more 2/$25, everything has an up charge now , the ribs are $10. The experience that I had in this restaurant on 516 2026 was unbelievable. First off we got seated there are employees sitting next to us, cursing all type of MF names in the Restaurant. The employees were complaining about their schedule complaining about the manager. And the manager was a joke a total joke. This was the worst eating experience I have ever had in my life. This restaurant should be closed down. I repeat this place should be closed down. I plan on contacting their corporate office on Monday. We waited 5 minutes for someone to seat us. We sat down and waitress came by to take our order. We told her we were still looking at the menu and ordered water and a soda pop which came 15 minutes later. We ordered a chicken sandwich and a caesar salad (with chicken) 1 - NEW Spicy Honey Mustard Chicken Sandwich $13.99 Crispy, hand-breaded chicken breast topped with two strips of Applewood-smoked bacon on a Brioche bun with shredded lettuce, tomato, pickles and spicy honey mustard for the perfect amount of heat. Served with classic fries. 2 - Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad $12.99 Crisp romaine tossed in garlic Caesar dressing topped with grilled chicken, croutons and shaved Parmesan. Served with a golden brown signature breadstick brushed with buttery garlic and parsley. The chicken sandwich came without the honey mustard. We asked for the honey mustard 3 times. It did come and waitress told us she was just a server. The chicken was cold when the honey mustard was brought out to the table. The grilled chicken salad was OK. He didn't have manners when it came to saying "Thank you" and asking if we needed anything else, he just stood over us until someone spoke. We arrived at 4 p.m. today, Friday, 1/17/25. There were a few cars parked, but didn't seem overly crowded. Upon entering we found 2 other couples waiting to be tabled, so it became apparent that there was not enough staff available. The young lady at the welcoming podium was very friendly, courteous, and even felt sorry for us in the end. Explanation follows. She told us that an additional server was to be on the way, and that we would have a 5 to 10 minute wait. To be absolutely clear, I saw plenty of servers, a couple did not appear to be very busy. While we were waiting, another younger couple came in with 4 children, perhaps ages, 4 to 8. Two seemed like they could have been twins. After 20 minutes, I was ready to leave, but my dear wife wanted to give them more time. During that time an African American male server walked toward us and the young white couple with 4 children. Getting closer, after looking, he turned around, looked at the lady greeter, shook his head no, and walked back into the break room. I was upset!!! The lady at the welcoming podium quickly walked away and didn't return for about 15 minutes. I waited 5 more minutes after she returned. We decided to leave after waiting 40 minutes. The good thing is maybe we did that young couple a favor and they may have gotten seated earlier due to our leaving. Question for anyone reading this: Why do you think that black server didn't want to seat us? We are both in our 70s, white, and me being an army/navy vet during Viet Nam and after, with a cap. The other younger family, white with the 4 small children. Perhaps he saw neither of us would have had a tab of $60 or more. We turned down a large high table near the bar (21 or over listed.) 20 minutes earlier. We weren't going to order alcohol at 4 p.m. anyway. Because of our ages, we waited for a booth. {By the way, there were booths open, with one or two servers standing around.} The younger couple said no to the offer of a table in the bar area also So, we left after waiting 40 minutes. Went on Fathers Day and soon as we got in the door they tell us it a hour and a half wait for food, but we tried to make a reservation the service was so terrible the manager was the cook they had one server one waiter and the waiter decided to put everybody's food on one ticket and messed it up charging us double and for stuff we didn't order he kept bringing out the wrong food and that was one experience I would never do again!!! The restaurant had no more than 20 customers, and service was very very slow. I was taking one of my granddaughter's and her daughter out to eat. I drove from Chicago to Gary, Indiana to pick them up then to Merrillville, Indiana to AppleBee. I ordered the Oriental Chicken Salad with a Pepsi/Coke and no ice. When my meal arrive to my table it looked messy, for me the portions of the salad ingredients were off, had too many almonds and noodles, chicken was chop or cut into small pieces, I've had this salad many times it's my go to meal at Applebees, on top of that there was no dressing in or with my salad. I had to ask the server for dressing to which she stated that it had dressing. I stirred and lifted up the salad with my fork to try and show her that there wasn't dressing, to which she asked me how many I needed and that there would be an extra charge! I wanted to leave... we decided to stay. Salad was not tasty at all... this was totally a mistake, not doing them again. Granddaughter's meal wasn't seasoned, great-granddaughter got sick after her meal, she felt like she had to throw-up. Totally disappointed in Applebee's food and service... on top of the server constantly telling us of the extra charges dressings. Restaurant looked pleasant enough when you walk in, but seats should have been cleaner and bathroom needed to be tidy up. I tipped, even thought I truly didn't want to! Ordered the steak and shrimp. Ordered the steak rare. The steak that came to my table was serverly underdone even for a rare steak. The crust of the steak had a grayish color to it, while the interior of the steak was almost a purplish hue rather then pink. When I asked the waitress about getting it cooked longer or removed. The chef from the kitchen came and yelled me and my table about how this was what a rare steak was. Even made a vague threat saying "this is how we do it in merriville" ... yikes . It wasn't until I had called the chef back and told him that his attitude was wrong. And mutilated the steak to show him, and then he removed it off my bill. It is shocking they're allowed to be open with the corporate office. There is no way that anyone monitors or cares how it's run. We walked in and only 6 tables were in use. It took them over 5 min to get our table "ready". Then waited 10 minutes to be acknowledged. 15 min to get our water and soda and another 20 for an actual drink and the bartender had 2 people sitting at the bar! Then another 40 for our food. It was the Gordon's frozen battered cod. It was burned beyond recognition. I don't know which was worse, the kitchen for putting on the plate or the waitress not noticing and setting it in front of me. Went applebees today, host seated us and she was sweet and nice to us. When our waitress Shanell came she told us to wait one minute and she'd be back, 15 minutes later she asked us for drinks, 15 minutes after that she brought us our drinks. She was rude and ignorant when asking us what our order was, mind you the applebees was empty. Which to me leaves no explanation as to why our drink took 30 minutes to be brought out. She seemed annoyed with us with every recommendation we asked, you should get a new job Shanell. I asked for another ranch with my wings & she told me it'd be an extra charge I said that was fine, and she goes "Why don't you wait for you're next plate and i'll bring ranch with that?" I said no I want my ranch now, she proceeds to bring the ranch with my other plate minutes later, when I wanted my ranch before my next plate. I was speaking to the host when Shanell walked behind me and she shoulders checks me, not saying excuse me, sorry, my bad, nothing. I see there is all this space so i'm still wondering why Shanell decided to get so close to me to the point she bumped into me. I never have had a bad experience at this place! I love the different food they offer on there menu, along with how much they change it up and add new items. Service was very disappointing. We went there on a Sunday at about 2pm. We were a party of two and we were seated in a booth. A waitress came by and said she would be right with us. About 5 minutes later a group of 4 was seated at a table in her section. They were of the same persuasion. I've never felt so slighted.
