Unfortunately, I experienced very bad service and an uncalled-for and unfair incident from the Mexican waitress/host, (no name tag worn), regarding my disability and her unprofessionalism. Upon arriving at this location at 10:30pm on Monday, 1-15-2024, and after being seated, this same waitress asked if we were ready to order: mind you, we never received menus to observe, to be able to place orders. After she realized her mistake, and got menus for us to review, she came back and we placed our order for appetizers and meals. During the wait period for our food, she rushed by 3 times within 5 minutes talking to us as she passed, never once stopping at our table to tell us what she was saying or asking. With my born-hearing disability of 65% loss, I never caught any word she was trying to say to us. It did not help that she spoke softly and had a high pitch tone, as well. Not only is that rude, but unprofessional to rush by customers, in that fashion. As an added noted, the restaurant was not busy, at all, with approximately 4 tables being serviced, including our's. By the 4th time she passed through asking us questions that we could not, again, hear what she was saying, I told her "I cannot hear anything you are saying, I need for you to come to our table to talk to us, so we can hear what you are saying or asking." Unbelievably, she argued with me and would not come over to our table. I explained to her again, that we could not hear what she was saying and asked her to stop by our table: but she refused and stomped off to the kitchen with a bad attitude and never came back out. Completely took us by surprise. With that being said, my husband and I felt disrespected as customers at her unprofessional manner and felt we could not trust that the food we would get from the kitchen, (especially since she stormed back there), would not be tampered with: we decided to just leave altogether. We never received any of our appetizers nor meal for us to pay, therefore we did not leave with any unpaid bill. Restaurants, like this one, need to start training these kids how to communicate with a clearly annuciated voice, learn how to stop at the tables for anything they need to say to customers and keep in mind that there are people with physical handicaps, including hearing problems. Needs seriously better training and better manners taught here. read more

It's been quite a while since we were at an Applebee's and never at one in Indiana. SoSo, Friday we went in the late afternoon. Service was a bit slow, but it is everywhere lately! Our hostess was Cailyn. She was apologetic and sweet. She suggested appetizers and they were terrific. We ordered our main dishes, broccoli chicken alfredo for me, and my family ordered the 2 for $25 dinners. All was soooo good. Right temperature and delicious! Cailyn checked on us a few times but not overly checking like some places do. We highly recommend Applebee's Bar and Grill in Merrillville. If you can, try and get the most Awesome server, Cailyn. I ordered online to pick up. My boyfriend went to pick it up. When he came back, my meal was not in there. I ordered the 4 cheese Mac and cheese with sweet and spicy tenders on top. He called and went back to get it. He comes home and I got two tenders with honey poured over everything and no cheese at all. I got plane penne noodles with honey. Alright. Starting off with the best-worst thing, the table we were seated at was DIRTY. There was sauce and crumbs all over it. Next, there was an INSANE amount of flies, and fruit flies. My family and I were fighting for our lives swatting them away the whole time we were at this restaurant. To make matters worse, there were uncleared tables next to us which attracted the flies even more. The tables were literally not cleaned off the whole time we were there. Waitresses were nice and helpful. I went here 08/18/23 and ordered the $12.99 All You Can Eat Boneless Wings. I had to ask for a new fork as the one given to me was dirty. Not a problem sometimes things come out dirty accidentally. It took 30 minutes to get my first plate, it wasn't a problem. It took a whole hour to get my second plate. By the time my food came the previous plate had settled and I wasn't even hungry. It was ridiculous as the waitress told me there was only 2 cooks and the manager had to get to work. I watched 3 large groups get all their food including wings during the hour I waited for mine (was only me and my partner). When my food finally came it was 5 small wings on each plate. Sat at the bar for 10 minutes, without any service. Had to ask a woman to move her purse off the bar, in front of an open seat,which almost became confrontational. I felt that should be the job of a bar manager, as soon as they see that purse blocking the next potential customer. When I asked the woman to move her purse she got uppity with me. Wanted to sit at bar , where no one was sitting , and were told we could not. I visited this Applebee's 02/17/2024 at 4 pm. I ordered the Shrimp Parmesan Sirloin dinner; and requested the steak to be "well done". When I cut into my steak; it was medium done. I informed the waitress; and the steak was taken back into the kitchen. When it was brought back out; more Parmesan sauce was put on it; and shrimp; but the steak was still medium (pink). It wasn't even hot. I know the waitress ordered it correctly; and I'm assuming the other woman that came out was perhaps the manager; but they knew this steak wasn't put back on a grill and cooked to well done. I've eaten there before. We were first seated at a table by the window; and it was cold in the restaurant. I don't know if this had anything to do with someone with me asking for a seat change. Should have read reviews before we came. Took 10 minutes for waitress to come over and take our drink order. By this point we already knew what we wanted to eat, so we ordered at the same time. Didn't have regular Pepsi in stock, didn't have Mountain Dew and didn't have boneless wings. We finished ordering at 1:09pm. Food didn't arrive until 1:56pm, and all that was ordered were burgers and chicken. Had to beg to get refills, and she didn't even check on us except to tell us that it was taking a long time for the chicken tenders.... Seriously?? Also, table next to us at 1:45 were able to order boneless wings... magically they were back in stock. Calling the manager tomorrow, and won't be stepping in there again. I decided to order from Applebees for a midweek dinner, curbside pickup, as opposed to a smaller local venue because I figured Applebees food would be fresher and prompt. Unfortunately, I was wrong on both accounts, and might I add, the service wasn't the greatest either! I'm actually more upset about the service than the lifeless and flavorless food. I thought curbside meant I didn't need to go inside to pickup an online order, afterall we're still in a pandemic, however even being a few minutes late for my pickup time, i still waited more than 10 minutes once they texted me that my order would be brought out to my car " shortly". As I sat watching other customers parked in the "To Go" spots coming out of the restaurant with their food, I had a feeling I would soon be doing the same, as there was not one Applebees employee in sight serving the curbside customers in the parking lot. We order curbside pickup frequently, from various restaurants and this was the worst most inattentive service EVER! Usually, we are greeted pleasantly and our food is ready and waiting for US! I think if the customer service was attentive, polite and appreciative of our patronage, the disappointment in the quality of the food wouldn't be as paramount. I know we're in the middle of Covid, but I'm grappling to understand why customer service has to suffer when we're still spending our hard earned limited funds to help keep businesses open. The young man who was standing in the front, didn't even greet my SO who went in to get our curbside order. There were no other customers there for "TO GO", so it's not like it was busy. After asking his name the first time, disappearing into the kitchen to check on our order and returning, he completely ignored him without giving an update on our food as if he was invisible, and began writing something down. After patiently waiting five minutes for a reply, my SO finally asked what's the status! Like, "hello?" He had to give his name two more times as he went back and forth to the kitchen. Oh and what did we order? Boneless wings, fish and chips, fried shrimp with cole slaw , and half rack ribs with fries. Everything was dry, bland and small in portion size. Myself and my family came in and sat down and ordered our food right away we also ordered drinks from the bar. We received our drinks right away and we weren't satisfied with the drinks and requested them to be remade. Our waitress was very nice about it she took the drinks away but the barmaid took 30 minutes to remake our drinks. Our food arrived we had no silverware for 10 mins and the manager Miss crystal had no urgency to rectify the mixup. Came in with my friend and her son to take advantage of the 25 cent wing special. We had to wait forever for our food to arrive and when it came it arrived cold. We told them the food was cold so they brought back more and it was the same temperature. The fries were hard and the chicken tender we ordered were so skimpy. We asked the server to get more and she said that's how they came and there was nothing she cooked do about it. Our waters never got refilled. She never apologized for the wait for the state of the food and then she rushed us from our table. The prices are so good but it doesn't make up for the terrible service we just received tonight. Honestly, if I could give it 0 stars I would not hesitate, but due to the manager being very apologetic I gave it 2 stars. I thought visiting this place would change my perspective on all Applebee's being that I haven't visited in a very long time due to NEVER being provided with exceptional service no matter what state I'm in and again it was no different. My waiter seem to could not remember anything and failed to return after bringing drinks. It was so bad that several others checked on us periodically. My food came to the table, my appetizer was never delivered, the food was delivered in pieces and not together as a meal, silverware took forever to come I began to just eat with my fingers. I have to say: the manager Crystal provides service that was extremely above exceptional. I sat and watched her with several parties with a plethora of issues. She held it together and provided WONDERFUL service. She was very understanding and apologetic. NOW SHE deserves some recognition. Well...I haven't been to applebees in probably 5 years because of the experience i encountered at different location. I decided to go after shopping at the location in Munster Indiana. The waitress was nice and she checked on us enough to not make me feel overwhelmed with her presence. Then all of a sudden. A very friendly woman dressed in business dress attire walked up to my table and asked was everything okay. I looked and noticed she was the manager. Her name is Crystal.... and that special touch.....to come out to the dining room and speak to the guest was such an added touch of great customer service. Needless to say. I enjoyed my meal as well. We had a group eating there. Wait staff was terrific. Food was great. The problem stems from the restroom and manager. The women's restroom was filthy . No one has been cleaning it. 2 out of the 3 stalls were not useable-- paper towels stuffed in the toilet. The only usable one was filthy-- toilet paper on the floor everywhere and the toilet paper dispenser was almost empty . We washed our hands but no paper towels to dry. The other lady and myself went to the manager with wet dripping hands. I complained and requested paper towels . She gave them to me and I had to ask for some for the other lady and the manager said she would take care of it.. but she went back to what she was doing. As they say if this is how part of your place is can you imagine how the kitchen is??? SAD SAD Manager should be monitoring the restrooms often and not "whenever." read more

This review will be a short one. I think everyone has eaten at an Applebee's. The menus are pretty much the same, and the decor is too. That means that service counts for a LOT. Unfortunately, the service here is consistently terrible. Most recently, the waitress kept disappearing for huge time gaps at a time, not just for us but for her entire section. So then, she was slammed with people demanding things, since she had to check all her tables at once, which then made her slower. It was a vicious cycle, and it shouldn't take an hour plus to get food at a damned Applebee's. The food itself wasn't much better. I love Applebee's, on a normal, good day. I ordered a grilled cheese and fries. Pretty standard stuff. It got to the table cold, and because of that, it just tasted like Kraft Singles taken right out of the fridge. There are better local restaurants, and there are certainly better Applebee's in the area too. read more

Have been wait to go for the AYE wings, went last night to find a sign saying if you order the AYE wing, the wait will be a little longer. Placed our order and waited 30 minutes for our wings, came out over cooked. Our waitress took forever to greet us, but was very nice the three times she came to our table. When we got our food, I asked another waitress for a ranch and she said okay, but then went to bus tables and we never received the dressing. We came quite late, but still had plenty of time to order multiple of the $1 margaritas. She failed to mention to us when they made last call, so eventually when she came back to our table and we wanted to order more she then informed us, but she was at the table next to us at least 5 times prior to eventually coming back to our table. That being said, she had plenty of opportunities to inform us of last call and give us the option to order more while we had a chance. My southwest steak salad could have used an ounce or more of steak. The bartender/server Dan was great. He brewed a fresh pot of coffee for my spouse. It takes over a half hour to make spinach dip? We saw a manager come out with the dip, walk the entire restaurant, and return with it still in her hands to the kitchen because she had no idea what table it belonged to. Then a waiter, other than the one that took our order, tells us that the kitchen was slammed and they're still working on our order. We finally get our appetizers and that server tells us the order was only placed 6 minutes ago when in fact we placed our order over a half hour before. No one ever apologized, discounted the bill, etc. I would rather spend money somewhere else than to be treated so poorly. read more
