If you want good bar service because you're nervous about flying and need a round or two before making your way through TSA, then this is the stop for you! I had a pleasant experience with the Bartender, Lauren, who recommended a special drink, but I ended up settling for a couple of whiskeys. 5 stars are for bar service only, as I didnt have any food. read more

It was the day after Christmas and my family ceremoniously had to drop me off at the airport hours upon hours early for my flight. As this is the only choice outside of security, I surrendered to my prejudices, said "F*%k it," and soon found myself seated at the bar. I had high hopes that my food would come out at least mediocre. The bar tender was quite lovely. She was sweet girl who was surprisingly convincing in her demeanor that she was happy to be bartending at Applebee's. During my time here I learned she grew up on a farm and was in school for nursing. In my sort experience knowing her I can sincerely say she would make a fabulous nurse. I wish her the best. She quickly supplied me with a beer to lube the experience of being at an Applebee's. While I drank my beer I gazed upon the bleak and foggy view of the runway. It taunted me with the view of planes, loaded with the lucky people, taking off, one after another, off to someplace better... I longed to be one of them. As I perused the menu I was not surprised to find the menu utterly deprived of any vegetarian, yet alone vegan, options. However, with some modification I was able to order a side salad and fries that would satisfy my sustenance requirements (standard operating procedure). To my delight I found that the whole bar was supplied with power outlets upon which my phone was quickly plugged in. Now I could be comfortable being here for hours. The warm glow of my phone screen seemed to clam me. For this reason I bestow upon this particular Applebee's a coveted third star that most Applebee's never earn. My food came out fairly quickly. Although the quality was less of most fast food restaurants, and the fries were somehow devoid of flavor, the food was still edible and did fulfill its roll to tied me over until something proper was able to be eaten. read more

I've been here at least 50 times traveling through this airport every week. It is generally the worst large franchise restaurant I've been to, but the only option really at this airport. They are out of the same items every single week. Orders are basically always off. read more

This place is terrible. It was not busy, there were maybe 8 tables and 5 or 6 people at the bar. Ordered our food at 5:45. At 6:20, I stuck my head in the kitchen to find our server... She was standing against the wall on her cell phone. I asked where Our food was abd was informed it would just be another minute. We ordered chili nachos, wedge salad and mac and cheese for the kids. Traveling home from Richmond VA, we had some time to grab a bite to eat before the flight. My colleagues and I have our 'go to' salads from Applebee's that we always enjoy. I want to point out that our server was one of the best I had ever experienced - Her name was Thomasina!. She was super friendly, attentive and quick. I can't understand why an Applebee's airport location would not have even one vegetarian sandwich, veggie burger or entree on the menu - although was reluctant to eat hear - but had no other sit down restaurant choice. Their corporate folks need to get on with understanding there are many of us - I have been a vegetarian for more than 40 years - and most restaurants in their niche have vegetarian choices. I had the good fortune of experiencing great food, service and in this case, amazing honesty. After eating a very good hamburger at the bar and receiving prompt and courteous service, I made it to my gate and into the plane before realizing that my laptop never made it into my bag. Fortunately, Casey was my server and the bartender because she turned my laptop into security and I was able to retrieve it and get back on the plane for takeoff. While in the process of collecting the laptop, I was also told that Casey was having me paged over the loud speakers to ensure I didn't leave without my computer. Spent ten minutes waiting to get acknowledged. Once seated, never got a second look for refills. Bad service. Waitress more interested in taking the paper cups off of liquor bottles than providing service. Can't believe that service could be this poor. My wife and were waiting for our flight at Richmond VA. airport and decided to stop at Applebee's at the terminal for some wine and food. The place was not crowded and the waitress stopped by after 10 minutes to ask us if we wanted drinks first. My wife ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio and I asked for a Cabernet. The waitress brought over 2 Pinot Grigio. I told her I ordered Cabernet...no apologies. She took the Pinot and brought it to the bar. After 10 minutes wait (while she was having a conversation with the manager) I motioned to her and she brought me the Cabernet...again...no apologies! We then ordered our food, I order an oriental stir fry with shrimp and my wife ordered the Classic Clubhouse Grill. She told the waitress to please not put the mayo on the sandwich and the dressing on the side. After 10 minutes our meals came...I got Chicken stir fry instead of shrimp and my wife's sandwich had mayo and dressing on it!!! We told the waitress and I got my shrimp stir fry, but no dressing on the side for my wife's sandwich!! Can't make this stuff up! And not even "I'm sorry for the inconvenience" comment! Very disappointed...I doubt we'll ever eat at Applebee's again. read more

Stopped at the Applebee's located in the Richmond VA airport while waiting for my flight on May 27. My meal came to $13.43. Since the bill was so small, I paid with a $20. When the server gave me my change, she gave e $6. When I asked where the the remaining $ .57 was, she said the restaurant "didn't give change". WHAT?? This policy rips the customer and the server off, as I took what I was owed out of her tip. Think how much $$ the chain makes every time a customer pays cash for their food or drink! Feel totally ripped off. read more

I hade the most rotten tasting Guiness at this location. I have seriously not tasted anything more nasty in my life! The bar tender was hardly coherent, although he did keep my water refilled. Something is not right with this place, the appetizer I ordered tasted odd. Dishes were not completely clean. Too bad there is no competition nearby to promote better service. read more

I would give this Applebee's less than one star if I could. We had 1.5 hours to departure, should have been plenty of time to order soup and salad. I sat at a table for a full hour before asking about my food, saying to the waitress and manager I was getting nervous not getting my food before departure. The manager said "we are backed up and doing what we can" in a tone that implied that I was imposing on him. When my salad finally came, the chicken was cold and the lettuce was hot and wilted. I didn't trust that it wasn't going to make me sick, so I didn't even eat it. The ladies at the table beside me also left before they could get their food. Isn't airport food supposed to be fast? Service at this place leaves much to be desired. My last trip there , I ordered a margarita when my family ordered our drinks and I did not receive it until after my meal! The manager even delivered one drink to me that wasn't what I ordered , when I told him that he said oh and just walked away. All I can say is wow! Servers were awesome. Trae did a wonderful job of checking on us and making us feel like we were actual guest. The only issue i had was the horrible bartender. I asked for a simple cranberry and vodka with grey goose. What i got was two shots of grey goose with a drip of cranberry. If i had wanted a shot of vodka i wouldve asked for it. Most expensive drinks ever! A group of us had 6 beers, yes they were tall, but not worth $74.87. The last time we spent even close to this in drinks we were pool side at Ceasers Palace in Vegas. We were expecting high prices given it is an airport, but not this. To not even list a price when you are charging $12 a beer is just disappointing and reflects poorly on Applebee's. read more

When floors are sticky after being washed, when staff walks by spilled food on floor for at least half an hour (might still be there), when burger arrives cooked to shoe leather consistency, when chips ordered with burger are "delayed" 25 minutes, but waitress brings fries (for free) up front, with burger .... makes you wonder what is going on in the kitchen. You decide that you really do not want to know ... Delaware North Corp, you run a heckuva operation!! Based upon existing reviews, has not gotten better with time. May be a clear indication that DNC does not care. Applebees can be a decent franchise; not gourmet eating, but clean and with decent food. Not the case here. We opted to eat outside the gate because there is very little choice once in the gate area. Could not have been worse than Applebee's at Richmond International Airport... read more

Food is edible at best, which I'd mostly expect from an airport Applebee's but how do they get away with it being so expensive!!!!! We got a burger, wings and two beers and it was $60! Also took 2.5 hours to get in and out so if you are in a hurry do not even bother. Some decent local beers so sitting at the bar and looking out on the runway wouldn't be awful. read more

I travel for business about once a month all across the country, so I'm no stranger to airport restaurants. This was hands down the worst I've ever been in. Rude wait staff. Got the order wrong. I was ignored the majority of the time. And finally when I went to pay for my wrong, mediocre food, they refused to allow gift cards and tossed it back to me. This place didn't deserve my real money. There aren't many restaurants in the Richmond airport, but I would tell you to go buy an overpriced sandwich from Hudson News before going to this Applebee's. Less a waste of your time. read more

Absolutely the worst service ever. Casey is terrible as a bartender. She spent her entire time talking to one customer, presumably a friend of hers, and neglected everyone else at the bar. Took her 10 min to take my drink order. Another 7 for the food order. After 20 minutes and no food I stopped her from talking to her friend and ask that she remove the food from my order so I could catch my flight. She said she would and came back 5 min later with my order packed as a to go order. If I had wanted a to go order I would have ordered it that way. This is my second poor experience at the restaurant and both times they were not busy. As a former bartender her performance was horrible and my tip for the one beer reflected this. I left her zero.
