The renovated interior was the first thing i noticed--it's a stark departure from the dated look this spot used to have. It's clean... modern, and actually feels like a place you'd want to hang out for a while rather than just grabbing a quick bite. I went with the "2 for 25" deal, which is basically the gold standard for getting a solid meal without overthinking the budget. The melted cheese cheeseburger plate (O-M-Cheese Burger) had lots of melted cheese and the cheese under the fries was super delicious and the lime chicken with rice was for tomorrow's dinner, so wife got the Chicken Alfredo and our friends both ordered the beef sandwich with beef dip - they stated they would buy all the items again. Sever was very attentive and friendly. Hard to beat this kind of value for a reliable sit-down dinner. I'll definitely be back. The part of Applebee's is they are consistent. This facility fits that mold as well. We have been here multiple times. You get a good meal, at a predictable price and pretty good service. This consistency is reflected in the items we order. The family likes the BBQ and Sweet Chili boneless wings. These sauces have familiar tastes. The chicken nuggets are usually appropriately cooked with a modestly thick breading. Not outstanding...just solid. The chicken wontons and oriental chicken salad are a unique item that over family loves. Both have the same type taste. The taco is fun and the shell is light and crispy. The salad is always fresh with finely shredded vegetables. The chicken is usually moist and tasty. The dressing is delicious and helps make these two dishes. read more

We were a party of 3 and came here during Purdue's winter commencement 2 hours before close. They were short staffed (2 servers) so we were told there would be a wait of 40-45 minutes. It ended up being about 30 minutes. After being seated, the food came out relatively quick. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip to start off. Since it was after 9 pm, this app was half off ($5 total) which is a pretty good deal. Surprisingly I could taste some artichoke in there but I remember it being more cheesy/creamy and less runny a few years back. The chips are light and crunchy and the salsa has a bit of a kick. We also ordered the 2 for $32. Appetizer: boneless chicken wings (sweet chili sauce), entrees: 4 cheese Mac and cheese with honey pepper chicken tenders, and 8 oz top sirloin (well done) with mashed potatoes and broccoli. For the separate entree we ordered the whisky burger. The boneless chicken wings were tender and the breading was crunchy. I wish the "wings" had the sauce more evenly distributed and more of it for more flavor but it was still good. The 4 cheese mac and cheese was good. The pasta is a bit creamy and has a sweet after taste because of a sauce. There's a few sprinkles of perfectly cooked bacon. The tenders are mostly honey (sweet); I didn't taste the pepper part of the description. Not that it changes the flavor too much but I was going in expecting the swirly pasta so the flavors can get trapped more. The breadstick was surprisingly good. A hint of sweetness, mostly herby/buttery. The sirloin was good. It was ordered well done and it was well done. I loved the salt crystals on top, really helped with the flavor. The mashed potatoes were creamy and good texture. The broccoli was cooked well--not too soft, but also not hard. The burger was good. The meat looked a bit mashed rather than an actual patty and it was juicy. The flavors were good. The fries were okay. We also had a peach iced tea but it didn't have a strong peach taste and it was a bit bitter. I am giving 5 stars because it is a chain restaurant so the bar isn't too too high. But also because despite the lack of staff, they powered through with a positive attitude and good customer service. The food came out quick and had good flavor. I stopped by with my mom who was visiting. I got the salmon and she got one of their salads with chicken. The food was fine, key word being fine. It wasn't exceptional, but not bad at all. Price-wise it's not terrible, but nearly 20 bucks for basically just a decently-cooked salmon with two tiny sides was a bit disappointing. One reason I decided to give it 4 stars instead of 3, however, was that I was very happy with the service. Granted, we did go in the middle of a weekday so it wasn't that busy, but in any case our server was very attentive and friendly and took great care of us. If you want something simple with good service, I would recommend this place, but I can also think of other places where you'd probably get more bang for your buck, too. read more

Absolutely appalled by this place. I have been to many Applebee's and while they're always a little overpriced, the food is good and service is great. This particular location was terrible in every aspect. My boyfriend and I ordered a steak and a burger that took just shy of 40 minutes to get to the table. We had a couple of cocktails that didn't taste like anything, and our bill ended up around $70. The food was bland and kinda greasy French fries tasted like they were microwaved. Today we both got sick and my boyfriend is vomiting from food poisoning. I will NEVER return to another Applebee's. read more

The other guests in the restaurant seemed unhappy. We heard two tables complain to a manager over the food. We did not complain, as it wasn't even worth it. Will hope to be back and try another deal - however the problem with chains isn't so much the excessive fat or sugar in their items but the added salt. The processed sodium poured into every menu from PF Chang's to Steak n Shake makes me hesitant to eat out as much as I'd like to. The general medical research noted processed sodium as a health concern more so when one appetizer contains over half the daily recommended salt dose, with some apps - a day's or two day's worth of salt! This is not right and makes me think the salt is making up for lost flavors and cheap ingredients. I'd sure hope a lot of restaurants look up and starting keeping up with health journals and modify ingredients to better suit nutrition. I've been to Applebee's a handful of times. Before I stopped eating meat, I thought that Applebee's was a pretty good place to eat. But after I stopped eating meat, I realized that a lot of their options aren't vegetarian friendly. Even most (or all) of their salads are covered in meat. I do eat seafood so this time around I did their 3 course meal special (so everything pictured below was a total of about $16). It was a pretty good deal! I am such a huge unbelieveable fan of Applebee's now just because of this place. The boyfriend, his friend, and I were looking for somewhere to go a few nights ago because we were bored, wanting alcohol, and knew there was not much to do in Otterbein. We come to Applebees and had some of the most amazing service ever (I emailed Applebees about it yo!). Our waitress - Susan was kind, suggestive of menu items, attentive, and always had refills coming for us. The prices of the late night happy hour were awesome (1/2 price apps with a 1/2 price drink purchase) - for $8 (not including tip) you could get some very filling potato wedges and a Long Island ice tea. I sampled plenty of drinks here (haha) and was a fan of the Long Island Ice Tea, Pomegranate Margarita (on the rocks), Strawberry Margarita (blended). The Sliders on the appetizer menu were also delicious, but only if you're a fan of onions. They came with diced onions so my boyfriends little brother was not a fan. The potato wedges and the teriyaki wings were both also really good. In the span of a week I visited this Applebees several times and always had fantastic service and a very good bill. They sat us and said "your server will be right over" We sat and waited for at least 13 minutes at the table before we decided to leave. In the past I have enjoyed Applebees including this one. Not very good this time. Come to think of it, the last time was about a year ago at this locale and it was marginal. The thing that makes these chain type of restaurant enjoyable is that you can go into any one multiple times and you will get the same taste. You know what to expect. Not this time. Worst experience ever! I went with my nephew and great nephew for dinner last Wednesday night. We went for all you can eat shrimp/chicken and riblets. I paid the bill as my husband had locked his keys in his car. Who knew paying the bill would cause a problem?! My family was accused of sharing the all you can eat with me. My boyfriend and I frequent this Applebee's about once a month. Usually we have great service and food but something happened a couple weeks ago that STILL has me so upset to the point that I don't ever want to go back. We both ordered margaritas, so our waitress of course checked our IDs (I'm 22). My hair is naturally dark brown, and so is the picture in my drivers license. Right now my hair is so blonde it's almost white. I'm used to being asked for a second form of ID because my picture does look so different. For that reason I carry a student and an expired military ID- and in both I have blonde hair. Well on this particular trip to Applebee's... The waitress didn't believe my ID and instead of asking me for a second form or saying "Sorry, ma'am. I cannot serve you." She didn't say a word and brought out my "margarita." It didn't taste very good but I ignored it and just ate my dinner. So then, we get the bill and it lists 1 mango margarita (my boyfriends) and 1 nonalcoholic margarita (mine). I'm upset that the waitress didn't just ask for a second form but I'm EVEN MORE upset that she didn't just speak up and say sorry I can't serve you alcohol, thus my boyfriend had to pay almost $9 for sugar water. If I would have known she was in now way possible going to serve me alcohol for whatever reason, I would've just ordered a water. I placed an order online and had a coupon that could only be used if I paid at the restaurant. I went to the restaurant, gave the cashier my coupon, added a tip to my new receipt, gave the cashier my signed receipt and went on my way. In the past I have frequented this W. Lafayette location probably once a month. Usually with friends who all have dinner and a few drinks each. Server apologized for the delay upon arriving to the table. Only a handful of patrons. Breadsticks took 30 min. Never received drink refills although both our glasses were empty. Listened to a group of servers cleaning tables behind us complaining about their tips and people treating them badly all the time. 27 cents on of them mentioned. Entrees arrived, but no sliver ware. I immediately asked for another honey mustard as it was in a tiny cup less than half full for 5 chicken tenders. 5 mins later she brought me ranch. Noted her error, I nodded and asked for a box, but she did not return with the honey mustard, which I was now out of. Lady Mgr brought boxes, almost to the table, handing it to me as she pivoted away, I hurriedly asked for the honey mustard that I had not yet received. She muttered something affirmative? In reply. Again, another 10 minutes of sitting there and still no Honey mustard. Table beside us, family of 4 left without ordering. Lady Mgr never returned with the honey mustard. Most of the servers congregating at a corner table where a coworker was eating, turned out to be the Mgr I later asked to speak to. Waitress brought check, and my honey mustard, Hallelujah. I guess she thought I wanted it to go as she put a lid on it for my convenience. (Another tiny cup, half full) I asked for the Mgr, he promptly came over but my by then foul mood only caused him to be argumentative (which I pointed out).about the service he acknowledged observing. I declined his offer to "buy" my chicken tenders after a sarcastic statement about me being unhappy because I had chicken tenders but no honey mustard. Waitress stopped back by to check on us ( still empty drinks) I was in the midst of filling out the Applebee's survey, my son acknowledged her. I ate here on my first night in West Lafayette because it was right next to my hotel and I couldn't find anything else that looked good close by. I was welcomed and seated quickly and my waitress was top notch. I don't really like Applebee's food and I really didn't want anything heavy for dinner. So I ordered a strawberry chicken salad. Now, it was really strong on the lemon vinaigrette dressing to the point of being almost hard to enjoy. It was after I finished it that I realized that the chicken was missing. It had been brought to the table by different wait staff. I called the problem to the their attention and the manager came over and asked what she could get me. I asked for the grilled chicken and if it wasn't too much trouble some onion rings. She brought all of this out quickly and it was very good. To top it off, she did not charge me for any of my meal. Many restaurants will offer to make a meal right but will not also make it complimentary. They did both and it impressed me. I was at table 13. My waiter was Robert K. Time 4:17pm. Bill value $36.36 Our Check number was 497387. The Serial number 119336814. My friend and I always go to the Applebee's in Lafayette inside the mall. This day we were running errands and in West Lafayette. As a diabetic, my blood sugar dropped and I needed to get something to eat. We decided to go to Applebee's because we've always had good experiences there. The hostess met us at the door and was sweet holding the door for some older ladies that were leaving prior to seating us. She was pleasant. Our waiter arrived and started letting everyone in the area know that he normally is the first one to leave, but today he had to close. He was the oldest person there and that should count for something. He went to another table and took their order and a second waiter arrived to get our drinks. Our waiter came back and took our order. The food came out hot and wonderful. Then what should have been a pleasant dining experience turned sour. Our waiter came back and cleared my drink and food prior to my finishing eating. My friend has a rare genetic disorder. . Due to this disease, he continues to grow bone and his jaw is fused so that the space between his teeth is very small. He tears his food into very small bites and pushes it between his teeth and then uses his tongue to try to mash it against his teeth and eat. I told my friend, it was okay...take his time, we were not in any hurry. I sat without a drink or food while my friend tried to finish eating. The waiter came back and in a nasty tone said, "Isn't he finished eating yet?" I told him nicely, that he was rushing us and pushing us to leave the establishment. He looked me right in my eyes and said, "Well, don't you have some place to go?" I said nicely, "Excuse me?" I knew I had heard him, but I really thought maybe I misheard. He said it again..."Don't you have somewhere else to go?" I said very nicely, "No." He then made it worse, by stating, "Isn't there a game at Purdue or something you need to go to?" I very nicely said, "No" again. He then said, "Well, I'm sure you have someplace to go..." My friend was extremely embarrassed by this exchange and just wanted to leave. We paid our tab via the instant pay electronic gadget on the table and left. As we were leaving, our waiter was telling another table that he was "training" people. Heaven forbid. The manager was never seen anywhere and when the waiter was being so rude, did not intervene...so no idea what the manager was doing. In all fairness, the food what we had of it was good. The hostess was good. The atmosphere prior to our waiter was great and the football games were on in the bar and it seemed a vibrant atmosphere. I think this restaurant has some great staff in it. But this waiter needs some serious retraining in disability sensitivity and awareness. In the end, my friend was mortified. I was still hungry.
