Butcher's "Steak" and Potatoes. Don't waste your time!

Horrific. I haven't been to Applebee's in years, but thought I would give them another try. My fiancé and I are both in food service, so we tend to be lenient when things aren't up to par. That being said, we both agreed that the entire experience was unacceptable. Service was bizarre. Our server was not very attentive and awkward. We still gave her 20%. The other guests in the restaurant seemed unhappy. We heard two tables complain to a manager over the food. We did not complain, as it wasn't even worth it. We both ordered the Butchers Beef and Potatoes. The description sounded so good. She said the steak could only be cooked medium. When our food arrived it was steak chunks, grilled on one side that had been MICROWAVED! Spend your money elsewhere.

Tasty Asian mix but mostly food flavored salt instead of the other way around!

We waited a bit longer than expected to be seated, waitress was chill and easy going for the whole meal, a relaxing and enjoyable time. Our trio got an order of wings, the sirloin, and the chicken Wonton Tacos. I had the sirloin tacos, very tasty and decent amount of food for ~$4.50 for last night 1/2 priced apps. Went down way too fast - my niggle is they are hardly the filler and far under the calories of the spinach artichoke dip - should include 50% more however a solid pick for calorie counters. The chicken tacos and wings were both enjoyed too. Half priced apps make the wings a way better deal than Buffalo Wild Wings! Will hope to be back and try another deal - however the problem with chains isn't so much the excessive fat or sugar in their items but the added salt. The processed sodium poured into every menu from PF Chang's to Steak n Shake makes me hesitant to eat out as much as I'd like to. The general medical research noted processed sodium as a health concern more so when one appetizer contains over half the daily recommended salt dose, with some apps - a day's or two day's worth of salt! This is not right and makes me think the salt is making up for lost flavors and cheap ingredients. I'd sure hope a lot of restaurants look up and starting keeping up with health journals and modify ingredients to better suit nutrition. Being next to a college shouldn't be an excuse to ignore health.

I've been to Applebee's a handful of times. Before I stopped eating meat, I thought that Applebee's was a pretty good place to eat. But after I stopped eating meat, I realized that a lot of their options aren't vegetarian friendly. Even most (or all) of their salads are covered in meat. I do eat seafood so this time around I did their 3 course meal special (so everything pictured below was a total of about $16). It was a pretty good deal! They also have their $1 drink going around for Halloween. I'll be back to try it!

The daily special was flank steak fajitas and they were excellent. Steak was prepared very well and the onions, peppers and rice to go along with them were delicious. We shared a chicken quesadilla, which quite frankly I would go back and order as a main course next time because it is on the regular menu. It was made very well with the tortilla being cooked perfectly, and the chicken with a little bit of a spicy kick to it. Most importantly, we enjoyed the atmosphere at Hunters Pub with all the key sports on the televisions and not to loud. The service was exceptional. A very big thank you to Kimberly, who made our dinner much more enjoyable. She was very good at giving recommendations as to what we should pick off the menu.. Great personality and even better smile!

Amazing food Large portions…read moreGreat beer Live Irish music Reasonably priced Servers were great

I was so excited to go to what a thought would be a solid Irish restaurant. Reviews online were…read moregood and pictures looked good. We live in Indianapolis and were in the area so we were really looking forward to trying this place. However, the food was overpriced and low quality. I ordered the Connemara Chicken. This restaurant uses boxed Idaho flakes for their mashed potatoes. The kind you just add water to... the ones that are kind of like a paste texture. I could tell right away. The chicken tasted reheated/chewy and unflavored. The sauce wasn't bad but it had a unique flavor. I liked the vegetables (I loved that they were cooked well and not al dente) but my partner said they tasted unflavored to her. Honestly, I was most disappointed by the mashed potatoes. I don't know how an Irish restaurant- or any restaurant - doesn't use real potatoes. Especially when the dish costs $19. For that price, dehydrated flakes are absolutely crazy. I know inflation is high but come on. My dollar matters too and when I decide to dine out on a rare occasion I'd like to be getting quality food. I asked the waitress- who was very attentive and sweet- if this is what they always use for potatoes or if it was an off day and she said they always make them with the Idaho box of flakes. Again, she was super sweet and very attentive. We had no issues with service at all. But using fake mashed potatoes at a restaurant is really disappointing. Especially for the price. Also, the water. The first glass of water we were given tasted normal. The refill tasted super weird so my partner mentioned it. The waitress told us she knows it's weird, apologized, and said that the water in one area of the restaurant tastes weird but the other area tastes fine. She offered to get us water from the "good" faucet after that which we appreciated. Odd to me that they are aware the water tastes off/bad (and have an alternative that's better) but still serve the bad stuff to customers. My partner did really like her tenderloin sandwich. It was crispy and had good flavor. The pub chips were okay but they didn't have seasoning and many were dry/airy and as though they may have been sitting a while. Kinda weird. We talked about possibly coming back when they have live bands to give it another shot and maybe just get an appetizer instead of entrees because we really did like the service and the vibe there.

Good luck parking now with Chauncy under construction. Specials seem average but stuck with a silly plastic tumbler required to present for the discounts. Brothers is that awkward alternative for cheap drinks. I personally will go for Town and Gown in most cases but timing my first, surprising I know, visit after a decade in the area worked a charm. My buddy and I found an empty and fun bar with one excellent staff member serving. She explained the tap options then we discovered my first pick was drained. Went for the classic Blue Moon, he did a cocktail on the Beach then Baltimore Zoo, surprising how different both were to other places same named drinks. I would happily try again on a whim but even for the decently fair twenty bucks we dropped the missing food demands lower prices for less to digest while drinking.

The 25 cent wing Wednesdays are a joke. You have to wait in line an hour for them to get them at a random window, and they're pretty terrible. They'll also randomly run out after you've been waiting for a while with no warning. Go across the bridge into Lafayette for a better experience.

Best breakfast in Lafayette!…read more Valerie served us up an amazing first time experience at this classic diner. Sign says they use beef tallow as their cooking oil! Love this spot. I ordered the Drew Brees country fried steak meal with hash browns and biscuits. The root beer jelly was a crazy surprise. Wife had the corn beef hash and eggs breakfast. Everything was 10/10 delicious. Nice cup of joe, the Coffee tasted like a nice breakfast blend, not harsh or bitter.

So imagine my (pleasant) surprise that there was but one Triple XXX restaurant that remained open, carrying the torch (as it were) for that great root beer! So on a nice and humid Saturday, me, hubby, and our little Puppy hopped in the car for a 2+ hr drive to West Lafayette IN for lunch! Of course - we got there - an old-style-diner-like building perched on a hill close to Perdue University in West Lafayette! We were seated in the outdoor "full service" tented section of the restaurant (covered) and perused the menu. After ordering the obligatory Triple XXX root beer (but of course - which came with free refills) we turned to the menu! Hubby ordered the Barney Burger - a 1/4 lb chop steak burger with cheese and grilled onions - as fyi, no burger comes with condiments- you get to "dress your own the way you like it" with condi's on the table. I ordered the Bernie Flowers All-Pro - a 1/4 lb chop steak with lettuce, tomato, onion (which I held) and Miracle Whip (yes!) on a toasty sesame bun. We both got curly fries (which were yummy, btw). Ok- first thoughts- the burgers - while fresh- were a bit dry. Hmm. The lettuce on my Bernie was a nice, crisp, and cold leaf. Yes! The tomato was freshly sliced and - honestly- looked like one I'd cut at home. Sweet! So why the 4 stars - I mentioned the meat was dry? Oh my. Yes, that's the sole demerit. But props to the fries and the awesome Root Beer! We enjoyed it - and just in the nick of time. No sooner did we finish up than a severe thunderstorm rolled into town! So we skedaddled to the car, hopped in, and drove thru drenching rain, super strong winds, some light hail - until we got outta Indiana on our way back to Illinois. Would we come again? Of course! Gotta support places like this-they're an important part of Americana! Check it out yourself and enjoy- as we did!
