This visit was good, but not great. I decided on the All-you-can-eat wings, shrimp & "ribs." They only have one choice of flavor for hot sauce, traditional buffalo. The wings were not hot and just a tad over-cooked. The shrimp was a 5, and kept the rating at a 3. They were served hot and were just the right amount of crispy. On the other hand, the ribs are just bone covered in barbecuse. NO MEAT to be found, and I searched thoroughly. Our server kept the rating at a 3 as well. He was extremely "timid" and not really attentive. The interior and seating is typical Applebees, but they had terrible music playing. It was loud and obnoxious. Stopped for dinner after traveling all day pulling a camper. Restaurant looked nice and very clean. We had the chicken strip and the riblet dinners with the spinach and artichoke dip. This is the only way I will eat those vegetables. Our waitress was Hopey and she did an excellent job. Sorry I did not take any pictures of the food but we were both very hungry. While waiting for my order I started reading the reviews on this restaurant. I started wondering while reading the reviews if I was at the same place? Most all of the reviews are more than one year old and there are very few that I found that did not have something negative to say. Some, of the complaints involved deteriorating seating. I can report that From where I was sitting, all the tables and booths looked practically new so I quickly disavowed those complaints. (Photos show what I saw). Many of the complaints involved bad service, and bad food. I had a remarkable meal, and quite frankly, I was surprised after reading the reviews. Everything was done just as I requested and it tasted wonderful. (photo attached). I could not have asked for any better service! Now I will admit the restaurant was not very crowded, but the lady that served me was Johnny on the spot with everything I asked for. Applebee's offers not only a 15% discount for veterans but also a 10% discount for seniors. My spouse is a Vietnam veteran, and I am a senior, the restaurant manager gave us each a discount on our meals. The entire place appeared very clean to me, and everyone was friendly. Perhaps, since most of these reviews that have led to an inappropriate rating over the years are no longer applicable today. I live in town so I will most likely be returning. I have actually been here before, but I had not left a review, during my visits previously, but I had no reason to complain about the food or service on those visits. Pricy food items but how can anyone blame the business when every other restaurant has been forced to increase prices? Not sure what has happened to this place. The service was Horrible. Impolite, slow, inattentive. The food was also not good. Little to no sauce on the pasta, bacon burger was supposed to have sauce on it but had none at all. Felt like I was on a TV show because of the VERY tense atmosphere. Strange woman at the bar approaching other customers and asking questions about staff. Waiter asking customers personal, inappropriate questions. Pro: big parking lot, nice staff, mostly good food, big TV at bar . Con: dirty floor area. Always pass by this restaurant when we go to the Walmart next door so me and my sister decided to give this place a try. Initially I was very hesitant because of the bad yelp reviews and my not so good Applebee experience back in Maryland. Upon entering the restaurant on a Sunday night it was packed and we had to wait for a table to open up to be seated. The host say a 20 min wait time but luckily we waited only 10 mins. Our server Kristen S. was the best, she was very attentive to our needs and her bubble/ positive attitude elevated our dining experience even more. For appetizer we order the chicken quesadilla & the loaded waffle fries. The quesadilla were very good and that dipping sauce was tasty. The loaded waffle fries were ok but the sauce covering the fries was a bit to salty. For drinks I ordered the mango strawberry smoothie and my sister had to cookie N cream shake. My drink was very tropical and tasted amazing and the shake was decent. For the entree I order the double crunch shrimp & my sis had the 12 oz ribeye. The crunch shrimp was decent and the dipping sauce has a tangy taste. The side of fries they come with the shrimp was very so-so. My sister order her ribeye medium well but it was more on the medium rare side. We were to full to order any dessert but maybe next time. This is one BIG Burger!! Cooked perfect on a brioche bun with lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions. It was super delicious the ground beef tasted fresh not frozen. Lots of flavor could barely finish with the seasoned crispy fries !! The Fiesta lime chicken in a boneless chicken breast, marinated and then covered with cheddar cheese and melted. It comes with a flavorful season lime cilantro rice. Chicken was very tender and tasty ! They also offer a full bar so grab a cold one or your favorite cocktail. They do have dessert but I will have to try next time. Watch for their specials !! Too cold inside to enjoy the food (which was very good). It wasn't just us, everyone was pulling on hoodies and jackets on a mid-July evening because the A/C was blasting. Our server (who did a great job!) just kinda chuckled when we asked for an adjustment to the thermostat. Speaking of chuckling, that's what we kinda did when our server asked if we wanted dessert. Absolutely awful experiance. Would give negative stars if I could. First, all of our meals were not great. One of the appetizers ordered came with chips. Not only were there not a lot of chips, but they were very broken. Like they were emptied out from the bottom of the bag. We asked the waitress who helped bring out our food if we could get more chips. She said she would bring some right out. But she did not bring any chips or come back at all. They were having a $1 drink special. The waitress was extremely slow bringing them and any other drinks to us. Many times we had empty glasses for 10 minutes or more with no waitress to be found. Imagine having a great time with your family because you just spent the whole day wandering around the beauty that is Shenandoah National Park and then you get hungry and decide to eat at Applebee's. You're seated by the hostess, the server comes and asks your beverage of choice. Oh but wait... there's a pandemic! Everyone is required to wear a mask. EVERY. ONE. The server has his mask under his chin. I say to myself, "Give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he forgot to pull it up while he was talking to us." He comes back to take our actual order and he still has the mask under his chin so I politely ask him to pull his mask up. No response. Walks away and says, "Ha! You gonna tell me how to breathe?" I'm unsure if he really said what he said. My family confirms I heard correctly. We leave without eating. On our way out, we ask the hostess if it's mandatory for them to wear face masks and she says yes. You would think that during a time like this, an individual would try his or her best to keep everyone including themselves safe and to be kind but unfortunately, some are selfish and apparently do not want to keep their job. What is up with the service here? Got seated, they were not even that busy, no one came to take our drink or food order. Sat there 15 minutes and got ignored by everyone. Even then hosted that seated us, said as we were leaving, thanks have a good night. I rolled my eyes and said, no one would serve us so we are going next door to I-hop. Got some to-go after an awful experience over the summer. Figured I'd give them a second chance. This place is literally the worst place to eat in Winchester. McDonald's down the street has better cooked food. I ordered a burger; hard to mess up, right? Wrong. They managed to burn the HELL out of this thing. The fries? Apparently when you order to-go you get what amounts to a Happy Meal size. Avoid this place like the plague. It seems corporate couldn't care any less about what amounts to years of bad reviews and experiences. Move along and pick a better place to eat. read more

We waited over 45 min for the first plates we ordered of crispy shrimp and riblets for the all you can eat deal. People who arrived after us starting receiving their meals. A wonderful waitress checked on us because she noticed the waiter did not even come back to say it'll be a while, say hi, nothing. Only then did we get our food, but he never brought us silverware so we had to wait longer to even start eating. Only then did he come back and say sorry for the wait. The waiters brother who is also a waiter there came over as well to apologize for his brother and said he'd get the food right out, which he did. We immediately ordered the next plates in case it was another 45 minutes. When my boyfriend got his second plate, he got the shrimp and got a terrible portion when my first plates of shrimp was much more substantial. They brought me the wrong order then had to being another- more than double of what my boyfriend received. The waiters brother should not have to apologize to us over and over for his brother AND wait on us because our waiter couldn't. It was busy but not busy enough to not even stop to see us or ask if we wanted refills. We put in an order on the tablet- never came. We didn't get refills until we asked the waiters brother go help again. We just asked for a box because we just wanted to get out of there. I came home and finished my dinner. I've been here before, but this makes me not want to go back. In my top five worst restaurant experiences, worse than when we went to waffle House and our server had the shakes, nodded off and fell several times while working due to being on drugs. While I would love to say that every so often you'd just find that other reviews of a place are off point, in the case of this particular Applebee's? .. Everyone's right on point. Service at this particular Applebee's is appalling at best -- and that goes for the lackluster support or helpfulness of management. Let's rewind. Some of my friends and family all showed at this Applebees's on a Sunday afternoon. There was a decent amount of people in there, but ultimately, it was rather slow. We ordered appetizers, drinks, and a "Cheesy Bread Pizza" kid's meal for my daughter. Appetizers came out, and were actually pretty good .. .. .. 15 minutes later our drinks (mind you, just fountain drinks and tea -- no alcohol) came out. At this time we ordered our food .. simple process - but we asked for a few things (for instance, no mayo on my wife's club sandwich, bar-b-que fries instead of regular fries with my meal, etc.). Roughly 10 minutes later, my daughter's pizza came out, sans cheese... eh .. it was essentially a greasy piece of bread, with approximately 2 cups (yes, cups) of sauce on it, and some sprinkled Parmesan cheese on top. Hmmm.. That doesn't seem to be too cheesy! Okay, we let it slide .. it happens. Then the meals come out (mind you, we've been finished with our appetizers now for over 20 minutes -- but all of the appetizer plates, and the empty appetizer platter stayed on the cramped table, even *after* our food came out, and was never removed for the entirety of service) -- or, at least a similar meal option of what we ordered. First? .. My wife's sandwich was LOADED (again, they seem to use "cups" of ingredients) with mayo. My sandwich (which was supposed to be turkey and ham), had... neither .. just bread, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and more mayo.... Somehow they even managed to screw up the fries. I'd say it was just my side of the table, but everyone has screwed up orders. We asked for a manager, but no one ever came (even though a man in a button down shirt stared at us from afar). Needless to say, we left very disappointed. To top it off, I went and filed a complaint to Applebees, and received a call from the store manager........... who essentially told me I lied about the entire process, and that there was "NO WAY" that any of this could happen -- yet provided me 3 free meals to give them another chance........ Oxymoron much? Needless to say, we gave them two of the three additional chances to make service beautiful again, but they failed miserably each and every time. Clearly, we're not the only ones who have issue with this place, but for some unknown reason, people keep coming in and keeping this franchise open..... *sigh* read more

This Applebee's is quite nice. It has a good atmosphere and it does indeed feel inviting. I came in with my mother, Aunt and, cousin. I had the topped steak and potatoes deal, starting at $12.99, which is a very great deal for what you receive. The food tasted amazing! I was quite satisfied. We also ate a blondie and it was to die for! The service was decent and we all had a great time. read more

Today was one of those days where finding a good place to eat seemed like too much work and I'll just settle for a chain restaurant for an average meal, well I was wrong. The service was good, my waitress checked on me often and was prompt with everything I asked for, however the food and the beer was just terrible, the Blue Moon I ordered did not come with an orange slice as it should have and had a stale taste to it that I didn't finish it, the meal was dry and lacked flavor that the same entree has had at other locations. Good thing is I am traveling and chances are slim I'll ever have to eat at this location again. They have a lot to be desired and a lot of work to do before they are on par with other Applebee's which are mediocre at best. read more

10/29/2011 Fri. 7:00 75% capacity, several servers, 2 under-employed hosts, 2 eager and lightening fast food-runners, cooks need more practice or were under-staffed. Food: Breadsticks were pre-prepared and so were a bit stale, dry tasting. Salad was very small. Ask for bacon, croutons, cheese on the side (otherwise these make up a significant portion of the salad). Mostly iceburg. Chicken Primavera served in bowl, mostly thick Alfredo sauce, some chicken and fettuccine as an afterthought. Tilapia was prepared well, moist and no bones, not drowned in the black bean salsa. Service: Server did not write down order, I was impressed, till the partial order arrived. They were a bit busy, perhaps short staffed. Local Winchester businesses owners/ managers frequently say that they strive to find responsible, motivated, reliable, qualified employees. Gee, shouldn't people be eager to please bosses in this economy?. When taking the order, we were rushed, she assumed Oli was finished speaking, did not ask : "will that be all?" She may have been jonseing for the table-turnover: We asked for the salad before the meal, so we got salad, then about 2 minutes later (4 bites of salad - no shit - the meal was delivered). They kept it under the heat lamp (how thoughtful). Several desperate plea's for dessert purchase began before we finished eating our entree. Neighbors were complaining to an unsympathetic manager regarding under-cooked meat, sent back twice, still paid on the bill. Another neighbor also complaining of undercooked meat (noticeably bloody MED WELL -if my nosy ass may say so. Our past experiences at all Applebees have been mixed, we choose it periodically- only full restaurant on our way home. If we worked less hours, we'd rarely eat out. If you are choosing between any of the corp. places, you can expect Red Lobster to be consistent and a positive experience. Top's Aplb's any day. I ordered a 8oz. Top sirloin, medium well with baked potato and green beans. Unbelievably, my meal came out in less than 5 minutes. It shocked the server & myself. She said, "they must have had an extra steak already on the grill." The steak had red in the center but was very good. My baked potato and green beans were only barely warm. I did not complain to my server (bartender) because she was preoccupied with her cell phone. One employee came over to her and stated, I suppose you're looking up a drink recipe. She wasn't, but he was making light of her being on her phone so much. Other servers frequently gathered at the end of the bar to converse loudly and unprofessionally, stating that someone was a liar. One server in the main dining area was talking to customers at one of his tables and loudly said, "Oh Shit." The staff appears very lackadaisical at this location and a customer should expect much more professional service at a franchise like this.
