Linda and Ken, the owners of the home, are warm and gracious. They will greet you at the door as though you are an old friend just stopping by. The home is lovingly taken care of as exemplified by the knowledge they have into the history of it and the attention to detail in showing it off. We stayed in the Queen Ann room which had a working fireplace, a four poster bed, and several seats (no TV ; TV wasn't around at the turn of the century). This room, I was told, was originally a sitting room to the master bedroom but was plenty big enough for our one-night stay. The attached bathroom was small but met our needs and didn't detract from the décor at all. Breakfast was at 9am sharp. Linda served homemade puff pancakes with fruit topping and sausage. I had never heard of puff pancakes but they were a great. I didn't realize this going into my stay, but breakfast is served with all the guests of the Inn. So be prepared to make small talk with the other people staying in the house! I would give my stay 5 stars except that other than the Shorts Brewery, which is why we were there in the first place, there is not much else to do in town. There appears to be one other higher-end type restaurant that closed relatively early and another local watering-hole within walking distance but not much else. We would've stayed longer had the town offered more this time of year (October). If you are interested in staying here, be aware that it's about 45-1 hour drive to Traverse City, although Torch Lake is close by if you were coming for that.

Why is it called the Spring Lighthouse. We arrived later than expected, probably interrupting the Innkeepers Dinner. Darci greeted us warmly and we chatted for a couple of minutes before making our way up to our room. I was instantly impressed by the charms of this well appointed, wondrous home. Next it was outside to check out the grounds. The sky was overcast but it did not diminish the property's beauty in the least. Time for Breakfast, I mean, it is half the name. We were greeted by Innkeepers Darci & Tom. They are such an incredible couple. The type of people you'd hope to meet on vacation, and then spend some quality time with. Warm, friendly, and so very comfortable to be around. Even if they couldn't cook I would have had a great start to my day. But shortly we were blown away by a delicious Blueberry Stuffed French Toast. I realized we were experiencing the very best of both worlds. I have stayed in some of the top-rated B&B's in the north east quadrant of our country and have never felt so fortunate to be sharing a home. Honestly, six nights was not nearly enough. About the name, "Spring" is very appropriate. The property is so mentally renewing. It, along with Tom & Darci, help create a positive frame of mind. Angst and worries melt into comfort and relaxation. A Reiki massage for the mind. Lighthouse? I'd say two words Light-Home. "Light" (natural agent that stimulates sight & makes things visible). The moment we walked through the door Tom made us feel at home. My husband came here as part of our "minimoon" in Michigan and our two days will stay without forever.  We were surprised with a gift basket from the owner and a gift from Tom & Darci. Everything about our experience was beyond comfortable. The view overlooking the lake is indescribable. Please get up early and watch the sunrise and make sure to catch the sunset. Once the sun goes down, being able to sit outside by the fire table with a mug of tea and/or hot chocolate.   The B&B is located close to the little downtown, and it is easy to take a stroll into down and go to a local restaurant while taking in the view of the lake. Lastly, the breakfast sets the mood for a great day. We absolutely plan to stay here again in the future.

I also liked that each room came with a fridge, a BBQ set (there is a communal grill on property), and some board games. There was also a communal hot tub but we didn't make use of that given how hot it was. We also liked the outdoor deck we had right outside our room, where we could relax and eat breakfast (but note it is shared with the neighbor next to you). I do wish that the breakfast had some sort of eggs rather than all carbs (we had a lot of sweets and carbs for ours), better coffee, and that the coffee was available earlier in the morning. (Breakfast and coffee came at 9am but there was no communal coffee earlier than 9am. I did like that later in the day they leave out coffee and madeleines cookies). We also found the room very crammed. You couldn't open the door without hitting the table chairs and there really wasn't much space in the room for anything besides the bed and table (not much walking or lounge space in between, so we felt a little claustrophobic). Although some toiletries were available (travel size lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and mouth wash), there was no shower gel and the travel size lotion, shampoo, and conditioner were all old and half empty, suggesting they were there from prior guests. The cleaners also didn't clean out the coffee maker. For price, it was $1048 for two nights in one small room. Over all, the B&B was very cute and the owners very friendly but ultimately we probably wouldn't return given the above. And if we did, we would see if bigger suites/rooms with more space was available.

It is currently the oldest continually operating hotel in Michigan. Our stay at the Grey Hare was thoroughly enjoyed by both of us. Derrek and Sarah were so attentive and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The attention to details was impressive - there were glasses of port and chocolate set out for us every night, homemade snacks available in the sitting room and the breakfasts Sarah prepared were so delicious they bordered on decadent. Every morning, Derrek served us a special homemade pastry with coffee at 8:30am while Sarah made our breakfast, ready at 9am. The timing was very relaxing and gave us a chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery surrounding the inn. We stayed in the Barnyard room, which was roomy with a separate sitting room where we could relax and enjoy the view of cherry orchards and bay. The linens were top quality, and the bed was very comfortable. We decided to stay on the peninsula for the majority of our visit and with the recommendations from Sarah and Derrek, we found a nice beach, a fancy restaurant, a retro general store and several roadside stands that sold cherry and lavender products. If you go, be sure to stop at the Harbor View Lavender Farm; their ice cream is special (lavender and honey)!

So many stairs, we had to go down a level, then up a short flight of stairs. Nothing is clearly marked. Trying to navigate from one area of the resort to another was an adventure. Apple Maps is confused with this place. The food was ok. The service in the restaurant was ok. Do know that there are no free refills - so you won't be surprised to find a $10.50 charge for 3 iced-teas!! Many foreign employees and language is a barrier for many of them. Our room was clean and spacious. Unfortunately, there is an underlying odor of must/mold which is strong in the bottom level. The views are beautiful. The Legend and Cedar River golf courses were nice to play. It was a nice time, but I do not think I'd choose to return.
