I emailed in about seeing a cat and it took them 5 days to get back to me and I was told to just walk in which I did. no one was there and when I called they said someone would meet me the next day. they turned up 15 minutes late and I found the cat I wanted to adopt but of course wanted to ensure my home was perfect for her. So I offered to pay and collect her a few days later. they refused and gave her away the next day to someone who apparently just walked in - lucky for them the people were actually there then! The staff is caring and are in a quiet, loving environment while they are up for adoption.The dog that my daughter decided on had been taken home for several weeks prior to boost its immunity and relearn basic training. So much better than putting a scared, traumatized pet inside a facility like the humane society with a jail like environment. I have to commend this organization for assisting in the adaptation of cats. I did adapt my cat approximately four years ago. She had ringworm and it was passed on to my wife and son. The adoption process had been rushed and the ringworm went undetected. It was an expensive error. However, my cat is still with us and very happy as well. My son adopted a wonderful cattle dog mix pup during the summer of 2020. She was supposed to be spayed. Last week, she was in HEAT! I brought her to the vet and the vet suspected that a piece of ovary was left inside of her. The pup went into surgery the very next day and they found 2 ovaries and a uterus stem. The pup wasn't really spayed, she was damaged so that she couldn't have pups. I'm sure that Home Fur good is a fine organization, but I suggest that if you adopt from them, try to go to a vet you really trust for the spay or neutering to avoid very expensive surgery in the future. read more

I wish I could warn everyone who wants to adopt a cat to not go here.. They let us adopt a sick cat and told us he just had a cold that was going around a new litter and that it was nothing but "we should keep a close eye on him" they told us. Turns out almost all the kittens they are getting have an incurable disease that causes fluid in their chest. Meaning after only having my cat for 7 months, he passed away last night. They are letting adopters take their cats with out telling them the full story of how sick they truly are. I feel awful for the animals that are being held there. They deserve better. read more

Better off adopting online from real people interested in you rescuing their personal dog before they end up in these places where they are likely paid the keep the dogs. While we ultimately didn't adopt from Home Fur Good, I visited twice and spent an hour or two in the cat room getting to know the kitties. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the cats seemed to be well loved. I adopted Guiness a chihuahua mix on Thursday 1/26/23 within a few hours he had severely bitten my left forearm to the extent that he ATE some skin! I returned him by 8am Friday the 27th of January only to find they do NOT refund any monies!!!I had paid $225 for him & had donated an additional $100. I went to Fast Med where she said it was the worst dog bite she'd seen in 8 years. She told me I had to go to emergency at a hospital where they disinfected it for hours & then said I needed to go to a wound center on Monday January 30th. I have now been to them 4 times & expect to see them every Monday for the next 4-8 weeks. I've had dogs all my life & never been bitten. Home Fur Good had me sign a disclaimer that he MIGHT bite!! FYI, Home Fur Good's old location just up 32nd Street had eight reviews and a five star average. It's unfortunate those reviews have not transferred over to the new location. Remember folks, this is not PetSmart, even though Home Fur Good does do adoption events there. It is a non profit volunteer rescue organization and should be evaluated as such. With that perspective in mind, HFG can only be considered to be awesome! I've never volunteered here. Never adopted a pet here. But I have had several interactions with HFG, all good. They have been nothing but kind and professional. Most recently, we visited this location to see a dog that was available for adoption. They were amazingly patient with us. Two long visits and an adverse family allergy reaction later, I'm afraid this pooch had to find a forever home elsewhere, but a very positive impression had been made by the volunteers at HFG. We bought a few items at the small gift shop they operate on site, perhaps out of guilt, and went on our way. I adopted a precious seal point Himalayan senior ("est DOB January 12, 2010") a week ago today. She was found by a Good Samaritan 3 weeks prior as a shy dirty stray. HFG christianed her "Gladys". A couple days after my adopting her and giving lots of cuddling, cooing, and coaxing with toys, she became outgoing, talkative, blissful, and gaining more weight. I decidedly kept her name :) My previous Persian, a tortie named Melody, passed away peacefully at 17 on October 12, 2017 of senior kidney failure. After heavy mourning and after the holidays, I felt ready to love on a new Persian adult or senior Furbaby. Melody was my 3rd Persian and I was open to having a Himmie for the 1st time. I bookmarked regional Persian breeders & rescues sites, as well as various shelters. I monitored each daily. One afternoon, I checked Petfinder and lo & behold, Gladys' profile popped up. I just had to meet and consider adopting her(!) I immediately filled out their online adoption inquiry. Judy the volunteer texted me the following morning. I texted back to make an appt with her to meet Gladys the following morning after they opened at 11. Judy showed me the cat room where I met Gladys. I fell in love with her and expressed that I was taking her home. I signed the contract and took Gladys home inside my 'Louis Vuitton' pet duffel carrier. Her adoption fee included exam, shots, dental, spay, microchip, and a 2-week grace period for a free wellness check with their vet at a nearby animal hospital of their choice. She also got a beauty treatment by a professional groomer. Judy gave me dry food sample, a donated goodie bag of toys and a little blankie, along with a separate blanket for me to place inside the carrier to keep her more comfortable on the way home. She also gave me her direct contact info if I had any Qs or need consultation about something*. The entire adoption process was professional. Upon returning home, Gladys exited her pet carrier and began to explore her new home. She bopped my Shih Tzu dog, Romeo Blu, letting him know not to come too close to her as she roamed. Gladys was still a little shy. While she acclimated in her new home with me & Romeo, *she was not eating (only drinking water and using the littler box). I texted Judy about it, and It was decided that maybe it was stress or that she wanted different food. I nixed the sample food and provided Gladys higher quality dry (kitten) food and Gladys immediately ate it (even stuck her head in the bag first) before I managed to pour it in her bowl. What a relief because she needed to gain weight. I was alarmed about that and took it out at HFG. She didn't need to be perfect- flaw or not, she's with me for life and that's my utmost commitment to her when I met her... I am blessed to have Gladys in my life. A Himmie is truly hard to come by. I often wonder of her past and how she became a stray (and how long) and managed to survive out in the desert cold. I wonder about her previous family and how she was treated. Whatever- what's past is past. She has moved on and approved of me and Romeo. I look forward to many more years and memories with Gladys. They had all of my kittens' medical records to hand to me and were very knowledgeable. Visited the vaccine clinic, significant savings over what your veterinarian will charge. I like that this shelter offers this type of service to both save pet parents money & to raise money for their efforts. They also have a nice store; oodles of toys & some practical items like beds, crates, leashes all at very good prices. The adoption area is closed during the vaccine hours, so I can't say what the conditions are like but seems to be a clean & orderly place. Interacted with three volunteers, each seemed to be knowledgeable & enjoy what they do. Deducted one star because they don't allow you in the exam room while your pet receives vaccines. I found that odd & an obvious deal-breaker if your pet is the anxious type. read more

This rescue shelter is very unique. First of all, they take the time to write out accurate descriptions of each animal on their online profile. I found this extremely helpful as I was looking for a certain type of dog (older, house trained, and small) and it can be very overwhelming walking into a shelter and just "window shopping" as a lot of people do. I did a ton of research online and thought this dog would be a good fit for me. Upon meeting my guy, his online description was on point. The thing that you have to understand is that they want homes for these animals, so unlike a lot of shelters, they do not "hold" pets and take applications from people who are somewhat interested, and then later decide. If you are ready to adopt and pass the adoption evaluation, you are good. This makes sense to me as a lot of people say they're really really interested in an animal and want them, then you have them complete a ton of paperwork and wait several days to go through the paperwork, and meanwhile these people lose interest. This animal is then "on hold" when in the mean time, someone else could have came in, been ready, and provided the animal with a home. This was very clearly communicated to me at my first visit. The shelter itself is very small and full of a ton friendly and cheerful volunteer faces. You can tell that these people genuinely care about the animals they house and sacrifice a ton of their personal resources and time for this organization. I was interested in a specific dog, the staff had him come out and meet me, and was very patient while I took the time to meet my little guy. The adoption process itself went very smoothly. Everything is easily communicated to you, they provide you with a free veterinarian visit and a complimentary training session. They even give you a little gift bag that came with food, a bandana, coupons, and treats. Staff was very helpful, I had a ton of questions and each was answered with patience and accuracy. A volunteer gentleman knew my dog was anxious while I was completing the paperwork so he held him for me to calm him down as I couldn't. Unfortunately we did not have a great experience, I mentioned multiple times I was very worried abt getting an aggressive dog and they said we can return the dog, within 24 hrs the dog started a dog fight with existing dog (meet and greet isn't enough time). They really should implement a 36-72 hr trial w new family especially with kids and/or dogs....returned dog which was not a problem but later lady who called to let me know that they will take back dog but no refund was rather rude. I'll chalk it up as a donation and hopefully the dog was placed with no kids and pets this time. read more

I have contacted this rescue three times now trying to get help for a stray cat with a badly broken leg. I have taken the cat to see my vet and they told me her leg has been broken for years and not much can be done outside of amputation. I don't think that is the best option due to the fact that this cat is also elderly. I would take her in but I own an aggressive dog that will be a threat to her. I am willing to pay for any medical needs she has to get her into a loving home. Very disappointed with Home Fur Good. read more

After being told by 3 other vets, the it would cost $600 plus, plus medication, plus extractions plus maybe ?? I went to Home Fur Good with some hesitation because to the low price to have my cats teeth cleaned. My cat obviously loved the doctor. He came easily out of the carrier to the vet when he checked to make sure that there wasn't an existing infection. My cat did well and was home in a few hours. This was about a year ago. But I do believe the total cost was about $270. I am back to looking up Home Fur Good since I need a vet for another reason. I am hoping that the clinic will help me again or send me to the same vet in private practice. They are working on bare bones, but the most caring loving group ever. read more

I highly recommend Home Fur Good animal rescue and shelter. My first interaction with Home Fur Good was as a NCL volunteer with my daughter at Petsmart. Home Fur Good's directors were kind and helpful toward us, but more importantly I liked the way they interacted with their animals. Every time I am at the shelter I am impressed with the professionalism of the directors and volunteers, the cleanliness of the animal rooms and shelter overall, and the treatment of the animals. First and foremost, this rescue group lovingly cares for all of their animals. I have witnessed the extraordinary measures they go to to ensure that their animals are healthy and happy. I have adopted two cats from Home For Good. Each one was healthy, spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all shots. I went to Home Fur Good today to inquire about volunteering, I had my application in hand and wanted information about volunteering hours and possibly a tour of the facility. I understand that people are busy and a shelter has a lot of work to do but I felt slighted. "Judy" told me the orientations are the 2nd Thursday of the month and that the next one is April 11th at 6. I asked what the volunteer hours are and she told me that I should just go to orientation, I felt like I was more of a bother than anything. I have volunteered at AAWL for 4 years and have always felt nothing but gratitude. I thought that a smaller shelter might need volunteers, apparently not. read more

Will not ever go back or recommend this place to anyone who is a dog lover and who is trying to adopt or rescue dogs. I went to Petsmart to adopt a little chihuahua, and the Home Fur Good ppl were there, not all the staff or volunteers are incompetent, but when I went this past Sunday they denied me adopting a dog, they came up with lame excuses for the dog not to go home with us and recommended we actually go to the shelter and look for a better selection. So we were sad not to go home with dog we wanted but thought we might find one at the actual shelter. The following day me and my family went there, and we were met with the same rude, judgmental and incompetent knowledge. They asked us a couple of brief questions, then went to the back to see if they had a dog to fit our criteria. But when they came back she said she didn't have any dogs that would be right for us. At this point I was completely frustrated and bewildered. Seeing my son and wife completely sad, we left before I said anything rude. I just don't understand why they call themselves a dog rescue and adoption place when they don't actually let you adopt. I never knew adopting animals from places like this would be so hard. Wouldn't you want those pets out the cages and concrete floors and into a warm loving home where the dog will get all the attention it needs??? I've been a dog owner for the last 15 yrs and have never heard or been part of something heartbreaking. Shame on you Home Fur Good for keeping dogs hostage, and not being fully educated on the behavior and characteristics of great dogs. read more
