Used approved contractors for installation of replacement windows in my home. Three workers showed up to do the installation. The patio slider was 1/2 to tall so they borrowed my sawsall and procceded to cut 1/2 in of the header! They also did not put faom in the 1/2 cap on each side of the door. The bathroom window was 1 1/2 inch to short but was installed anyway. Does not match the other three windows on that side of the house. All of the frames had to be cleaned by me of dirt, black marks and stains. Should have done the job myself. read more

The crew and staff are very nice. But, I did deducted one star. Cause we had one hiccup. Am very disappointed. The misunderstanding was.. My mother-in-law mentioned she wanted all the wood painted Dove white. But since the gables are part of the house body. They got painted yellow. When I brought the issue up to the crew. They where still working on the house. But they where low on the paint. So, I contacted the office this morning. That I would really like the gables white. The office check with Jared. So to fix this detail the crew would need to be sent back out. And they want to charge $600.. Nice company, just make sure you and all the members of the family. Communicate clearly what you want the trim, eve's, gables body of the house etc.. painted. read more

I recently had Approved Contractor Inc. replace some wood siding on the exterior of my residence. I hired them over other companies that bid on the project because of several factors. Sales Rep. Matt Loomis came out to look at the project and was on time, very professional, and friendly. He made me feel at ease discussing the work needed and offered up some great points. He spent a good deal of time answering all of my questions and was in no hurry to leave. Matt and I spoke several times after that and he was always eager to help. He was a great representative of Approved Contractor, and it was because of his presentation that I ultimately chose to go with them. They also gave me a very competitive bid on the project but it was Matt's work that sealed the deal. The work crew that replaced my wood siding with Hardie Board was also great to work with. They worked extremely hard and were polite and professional. They finished the project in a day and a half and It looked fantastic. I was very pleased with the final result. It was also a pleasure to work with the office staff. They kept me informed on when I could expect the work to be started. Unfortunately, I'm not posting a great review for this provider. We recently hired Approved Contractor to remove wood with dry rot, replace it, stucco and re-paint our house. The initial conversation with Jared seemed almost too good to be true - a permitting process that would be handled (it was but after the fact and charged to our card without pre-authorization, but what can you do, it needed to be paid, but he should have at least given a heads up) by the company, a job completed on time (it wasn't), and a dependable crew (they weren't). The workers and the "boss" on site that showed up to work for us were quite nice and did work hard, BUT unfortunately they were unreliable and inconsistent. From what we could garner, Approved Contractor sub contracts and in this case, they subcontracted a "crew" from Downey (VERY far away from where we live) and that gentleman had only 2 guys with him the first day for our nearly 2,000 sq. foot home. On another day of work, he had only one guy with him. On top of that on any given day they had arrived they didn't have all the materials needed to complete the job. Whose fault is that? Not sure, but it was heartbreaking to see the workers come all the way to our home to start the work for the day but be unable to finish out the day because not enough tape or sand or "insert material here" available. When they worked, they worked hard, but it was jus so challenging. We know that any work that can be done on the home can take twice as long as you though and cost twice as much as you thought, BUT, what was missing was just plain communication. Jared would say one thing, the "crew" would do another. And/or the "crew" would not let us know if they were coming or not unless we really pushed for an answer. And here's the thing, we got "along" with the crew (it helped my husband spoke Spanish), but it really felt like Jared and the "crew" weren't on the same page. Now how was the work ultimately? The stucco seemed to turn out okay. Wood replacement and trim paint, MEH. The job was done. At the highest quality? No. Fair to good in terms of outcome. Oh wait, ONE AMAZING BRIGHT HIGHLIGHT - our sliding glass door with dog access. The company subcontracted to do this job sent out a two person crew that was EXCELLENT. The door is GREAT and the gentleman and his son(?) arrived when they said they would, kept the area clean, and finished the job within hours. read more

We hired Jared and his team to give our house a facelift with putting siding over stucco. The first 90% of placing the siding was great and done on time- guys showed up at 7am Mon thru Sat, left around 4-4:30pm. They cleaned up and were friendly. However, the last 10% of the job- the finishing touches, painting- took 2-3 weeks past the original estimate of project completion and there were a couple of hiccups in communication. The final cleanup was mediocre. That being said, I think everyone we worked with did a great job and we are pleased with the end result. I would definitely recommend Approved Contractor. read more

They do good work when you tell them you won't accept them cutting corners and provide site supervision since there is none from the office. Communication was non-existent. They removed the siding from the front of my house, replaced with stucco, installed new windows and front door, and painted the entire house. At the end of the job I am happy with the overall result but every trade tried to get me to sign off on cutting corners and sloppy work. Once I pointed it out they redid the work properly, but it was extremely frustrating. Not the experience I expected for the premium price I paid. They were extremely messy during the whole process and left nails and debris all over my lawn which we had to clean up several times to ensure the safety of my dogs and children. They would have left paint all over my driveway if I hadn't made them come back to powerwash it. They were sloppy until you called them out on it and then they fixed it. Avoid the headache if you can. A 4-5 week job took 12 weeks. read more

Matt came out several times to answer our questions and was always polite and very knowledgeable. We are very very pleased with the outcome! The installers knew what they were doing and did a great job. After they installed the Hardie Board, they painted some of the trim that we didn't replace. They did a great job prepping and painting. Nice people and, in the end, the work was fine, but this is one of the most poorly organized businesses I have ever dealt with. I was constantly worried about what they were going to do wrong next, and would I notice it in time to get it fixed. Let's run through all the things that went wrong. (I know this is long, but you can just read the first line of each bullet point if you want just the highlights.) 1. We requested to meet with our foreman, but the foreman they sent out was not the one that was on our project: We made this request so we could walk him through everything so there would be as few hiccups as possible, but the foreman that came out was not the foreman for the siding project. Why would we want to meet with someone who's not going to be our foreman? 2. They took siding off our house a week early without telling us: I talked to the owner the morning of August 30th and he said they'd be starting work on September 7th. That afternoon I drove up to my house and the siding was gone. I called him and it turns out, he had no idea his crew was even there. He apologized, and I said "I'm not mad that they started early, that's nice, but I'm very concerned that this is indicative of a larger issue." Boy was I right. 3. They nailed all our windows shut: They put nails into our weight boxes. Not a few stray nails into a couple weight boxes, many nails in every box. We couldn't open any of our windows. How does this happen? Did they fix it? Yes, but 1. It should have never happened in the first place and 2. We had to take off all the interior window trim to give them access to the weight boxes so they could clip the nails! Unacceptable. 4. We told them repeatedly not to paint our window and they did it anyway: It specifically said in the contract (which I'm pretty sure no one reviewed before our project was started) not to paint the windows (we are restoring them by hand). We also went over this with the random foreman extensively. We came home one day and all our windows, including the 7 we had beautifully restored, had been sanded. Those windows represented months of labor on our part. We said not to paint them over and over again, and it's just not that hard to read a contact. Yes, they then painted our windows for free, because that's the only thing that could be done, but that's not what we wanted. And when they painted the outside of the windows they got paint on the inside of the windows. Our beautifully restored, stained (not painted!) interior windows. Those windows were prefect, and now they're not, and I'm still angry about that. 5. I'm pretty sure they forgot that they were painting our house: I got an email from the owner saying that the work would be done in a couple of days and the final check would be due. Well that's funny, because you weren't done with the siding yet, and painting would take at least a week. I'm pretty sure he had completely forgotten he was painting our house. How is that possible? 6. They bought the wrong paint: We specified what paint we wanted in our contract (which, again, pretty sure no one reviewed) but they bought inferior paint. Luckily we noticed before they started painting. They did go buy the correct paint, but what if we hadn't noticed? And it's not our job to notice, it's their job the read the contract! 7. Didn't put trim on one of the doors: We realized after the siding was done that they hadn't put trim around one of the doors. When we asked about this, we were told that is was because the door jamb was too thick and we needed to trim it down. Ok, fine, but why didn't anyone ask us about this? Why didn't I get a call, text, or email and tell us??? Instead, they just didn't put trim on and didn't say anything. 8. They threw away our LED lights: We had LED strings of lights in our gables and threw them away without ever mentioning them to us. We would have been more than happy to take them down, we'd simply forgotten they were there because we only use them at the holidays. 9. They didn't get permits: They clearly weren't planning on getting permits. About half way through the siding job, we asked for copies of the permits and when we got them, we noticed the file date was 2 days after we asked for them. Obviously, they only got them because we asked about them. This caused issues with the final inspection (obviously). I know some people don't care about permits, but the never-reviewed contact specified that permits would be obtained. If we say we want permits, they don't get to decide not to get them. To their credit, they were always willing to fix things, but this is small recompense. The work should have been done correctly the first time. I understand that no one is perfect, and mistakes are made, but there is a much bigger issue here than simple, understandable mistakes. This project showed a complete and utter lack of basic coordination. read more

Approved Contractor Review (Feb. 2020) In the fall of 2019 we did some needed repairs & upgrades to our 50+ year old house in Hermosa Beach - replaced 4 windows in the front of the house and replaced the old wood siding that had peeling paint with new vinyl siding. All work was performed by Approved Contractor. The work was done in 2 stages - 1. Windows; 2. Siding. We are very happy with the results, I posted the 5-star window install review earlier. The siding work also rates 5 stars! We discussed the details to be done and agreed on a time frame - agreeing on a date that promised a series of warm, sunny days before a storm was forecast. The job took several days - the workmen showed up on time, removed the old siding, cleaned up an hauled off the old boards and any scrap. The existing alarm light, entry lamp and door bell were carefully removed and saved for later installation. The surrounding area was left spotless after job completion. The old insulation was removed, old studs checked for damage (termites, rot, ...) but were found to be in good shape. The new vinyl siding boards were staged briefly on our lawn before being cut to size and installed over new insulation materials. Proper allowance was made for the gas line hole; downspouts were carefully removed & re-installed. There are no noticeable gaps between the new boards and the new window frames, all edges are covered with moldings or angle slats. All work was completed on time and for the agreed-upon cost. We are looking forward to our next project with Approved Contractor - prepping and painting all remaining wood surfaces. I am sorry I can only give five stars to Approved Contractors. They put Hardie siding on the front of our home, replacing our rotting wood siding. We also wanted our eaves boxed in and any wood on the outside of the house wrapped with metal. We live right at the base of the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains and had some minor damage during the Colby fire seven years ago. Approved Contrators we're great! They knew exactly what needed to be done and were very professional in supplying us with the information and the price for the work. We had gotten two other estimates but did not feel comfortable that the other contractors knew what really needed to be done. It's easy to promise, but it takes integrity to follow through. We were certainly not disappointed in the work we received and the way it was done by Approved Contractors. When they pulled off the siding around our front bay window there was no insulation in the wall. The very next morning they showed up with insulation and installed it. They did not overcharge me for the insulation or the installation. They also replaced the vents on the peaks of the house with vents that would not allow embers to get into the attic. They put special events in the Boxton eaves so that embers would not be able to get in. The Hardie siding is beautiful and has an amazing warranty. I can understand why Hardie made them a preferred company to sell and install their product!! read more
