Eat Offbeat operates the cafe area and is an NYC-based organization that employs refugees and immigrants to celebrate and elevate the craft & artisanship of cooking from around the world. the cafe space feels like an art gallery--adorned with art and art-centric books, somewhat intimate seating, and bright art lighting positioned above. the ambiance evokes upscale with the touch of minimalism in the bare white walls but is welcoming in its curated cafe menu of coffees, teas, juices, and small bites. it's clear that the decor and vibe are to evoke creativity and thought as you enjoy a coffee or a bite. very much place to share, but also to protect its ethos of spirit. been here several times -- enjoyed a cortado and Americano to-go. both were made proficiently. currently, the cafe uses a South American (maybe El Salvadoran?) medium roast coffee that has a pleasant deep nuttiness and a mildly sweet undertones as a coffee. very much a smooth caffeine for the winter times. the last time i stopped here, ordered a Turkish coffee and enjoyed it at the cafe. not sure the "Turkish coffee" is actually traditional coffee from Turkey, but the coffee served in a Turkish style. it's served on a small silver tray where a "cezve" (the handled counter where the coffee is boiled), fincan (the small 2 oz. cup) for slowly sipping the coffee, and a Syrian Barazak Cookie (there are two choices of sweets). it's very much an aesthetically pleasing presentation. the coffee is served hot as it foams up...the coffee tastes richer and thicker because it is served this way. it's fancy in a nonchalant way. Turkish coffee is meant to be enjoyed in a social way, so bring a friend! the service at Eat OffBeat is pleasant and hospitable. the barista is conscientious in the coffee-making and service. the patrons of the Atelier and the cafe from my experience are from the arts world, but aren't pretentious or snooty which is refreshing. it is a nice respite from the hustle and bustle of the city and the hustle and bustle of tooo many coffee shops. take a breath here and enjoy art aka life.

I had an enjoyable cup of coffee and, as I recall, I purchased either a cookie or a muffin and I did enjoy the ambiance of their very comfortable and casual interior. There wrre lots of configuration of chairs and places to hang out. And I did write a review, not for the cookie but because of my enjoyable experience. However, yesterday afternoon I returned and purchased a half caffeinated latte a d thought I'd inquire about my cookie. To my surprise, I was told that they were no longer offering that incentive. This disappointed me since I felt that to ask for positive reviews and promise a " thank you gift" and then fail to deliver was a dishonest way of treating their customers. Since I was in the mood for a treat, to have with my coffee, I decided ( in spite of my disappointment) to buy one of their overpriced chocolate chip cookies. However, it tasted like it was missing a few key ingredients! Perhaps the owners realized that they can mislead their customers with faulty promises and then sell inferior tasting cookies. That they do not consider their costs of doing business to include the comfort of the people who live in the building where they have chosen to have their business and is really a shame. I would not patronize any business who takes this for granted. Please do better. Get a smaller unit. get some bushings. get some padding. Make every effort you can!. This is under human control. and you clearly don't care.
