Whenever we're in the Stowe area, we always find our way to Doc Ponds. The menu is simple, but the food is consistently delicious. A few weeks ago, we were in town and ended up visiting twice, both times for lunch. I ordered the smash burger on our first visit and the tostadas on the second, and both were great. The smash burger was delicious and exactly what I needed to satisfy my greasy cravings. We also ordered fries for the table, which were served with a delicious mayo-based sauce. The tostadas were on the lighter side but still packed with flavor! Although we were seated right away on both visits, our food took at least 30 minutes to arrive each time. To make matters worse, a family seated next to us - who arrived at least 10 minutes after we did - received their food before us, even though many of their meals were the same as ours. The service also wasn't the best - which seems to be typical. On both occasions, the servers didn't seem particularly happy to be working. That said, we still enjoyed our meals and the cozy atmosphere. The wood-burning fireplace really makes the space feel warm and homey. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area and am hoping for a better experience next time.

Good spot. The weight took some time. I really liked chicken sandwich. A ton of chicken. I love the sliced pickles. I like a lot more than the burger. We got a double patty. Burger and the patties are way too thick. It was way too much meat and the balance was off. I will get a single patty. The fries are OK. A little soft. The maple pie was insane. So tasty and a must do in Vermont. The meat salad was nothing special. Didn't really taste like anything.

A really solid place to visit. Really enjoyed our time here. Good food and good selection of beers. Kids menu was also available at a decent price. Would have loved to sit outside as it was such a nice day out however all the seats were already taken. The Caesar salad was nicely dressed and crisp. The breadcrumbs topping made it nice and crunchier. The wings were very good - fresh, with awesome smoky/sweet flavour. Highly recommend! Great service provided too, our waitress was really friendly.

Food was phenomenal. Staff is very friendly. They have a plethora of vinyls and a sound table with record players. Great vibes. We had the chicken sandwich, the burger, and macaroni and cheese.

Got the mac and cheese and beet salad to share for two as a light lunch. The beet salad had an unreal dressing on it that was light, and the beets were fresh and sooo tasty. Wouldve loved for the salad to be a bit bigger though. The mac and cheese was incredible, it had panko crumbs on top, adding a crunch. Although we did not try any beverages, they had plenty of beers on top in addition to alcohol free drinks, and milk milkshakes. Nice spot, easy parking in the lot, and great vibes.

This place rocks!! The food was good and servings were large. The sevice was good and ambiance was as well. This was our last night in Stowe, so I am glad we had a good meal for our last meal.

a hipster bar spot with some yummy food options! We ordered the fried chicken sandwich - the fried chicken was perfectly cripsy and paired well with the maple mayo. I just wish it was bigger! We also ordered the baked VT cheddar mac and cheese - it was just okay. I liked the noodles but the dish overall was just bland. The Caesar salad was super crunchy and loved the sauce and cheese ratio. We had a slice of pie and the daily pick was the maple nut - YUM! So sweet and delicious, paired well with the whipped cream on the side. Service was very chill and efficient!

Great food and good ambiance! The marinated mushrooms are amazing. Mac and cheese side is basically a meal on its own.

Top notch cocktails, diverse menu, convenient location, very friendly servers. Highly recommend -- also notably more affordable than many other spots around Stowe

We went here 2 nights in a row when we stayed in Stowe. After 2 dinners with no repeats-here's what you need to order: 1) the chips and dip 2) fried cheese balls 3) the fries 4) the root beer on tap 5) Mac and cheese 6) maple chipotle wings (shockingly spicy) Service was hit or miss, but great vibes regardless.

Food: 4.5/5 | Service: 4.5/5 | Experience: 4/5 My party of 5 was able to get seated at a high table immediately upon arriving a couple of minutes after opening. I ordered the double doc smash burger. This was exactly as expected: a bit greasy, a bit messy, a bit juicy, a bit crispy edges, and a bit heavy. It did hit the spot, and the pickle on the side really helped cut the heaviness from the burger. This was my favorite place to eat in Stowe / Waterbury when visiting.

This has been my favorite place I've ate at in Stowe. Amazing burger and amazing wings. I loved the fact when you walk in and see records along the wall with two turntables. The staff was very friendly. The fact they have coke in a glass bottle was a huge plus. Most definitely a place you need to go to while in town.

Is the outdoor eating area still pet friendly?

Yes. They love canines; don't bring the Boa, or the skunk, though.....

Is Doc Ponds open on NYE?

Probably. It's a bar and most bars in and around Stowe will be open.

The ambiance is rustic and charming, old time feel and the wood in the fireplace was crackling and giving off an amazing atmosphere and smell! We were seated by a friendly young lady who said it was her first night back from college on winter break, so she didn't know the extra specials they had, but that was A-OK! The waiter finally came and bless his heart, while nice, was a little nervous, uncertain and uncomfortable. We asked if they had sherry or Port--each time, he had to go back and check. We finally got some Porto (after he came back to the table with 2 options / bottles in hand--all things considered, the Port was great). We finally ordered the Truffled Hummus (nothing truffled about it, it looked and tasted like store-bought hummus). We actually knew the taste was not going to be great at all by the bread that first came out - old bread, just heated. And incredibly yeasty dough. Not good. The Seafood Fra Diablo was a joke - it had frozen small shrimp in it and the TINIEST scallops I have ever seen. See the pictures. My husband and I both had the salmon--the entire dish was incredibly oily. Overall for the quality and taste, the place was overpriced too. We skipped the desert and called it a night. 2 Stars because I think the fireplace was amazing and the Port and the clam chowder was really good. (I forgot to mention it earlier, but my friend did think it was delicious.) Will unfortunately not be returning, still--good Port and soup, and all. Edit: my friend who ordered the Fra Diablo dish has been sick since she had this meal. Terrible experience.

The poutine was very good, but I'll grant you that it's maybe hard to get that wrong - but their gravy is on point! Service was great - got there around 5:40pm on a Wednesday, so the wait was non-existent and a table for 5 was easy to accommodate. Duncan was the server, who disclosed that he was new but you wouldn't know it from how he took orders and brought food out. Even threw him a curve by asking for the steak frites with an additional side of brussel sprouts, which he handled no problem - even though there weren't any sides I saw on the menu. Steak was medium rare and perfectly seasoned, and I think I mentioned the chimichurri but it deserves additional mention. Maybe you're wondering about beverages. The maple lemonade is great - it leans harder on the tart side and there are sweeter options around (Cliff House) but I love a lemonade that tastes... lemony. Pineapple cherry punch was also a hit - but that's secondhand hearsay, unlike my direct opinion on the chimichurri - which I would drink if I could. Definitely check this place out. The table near ours seemed to immensely enjoy their meal and also get great service from Duncan.

Con - none of the 4 of us even liked our meals - they were inedible. We descended the narrow steep staircase into the dark dining room; outdoor seating was not open. The waitress promptly brought us menus and waters. There was a good variety of wines and we settled on the Sancerre. Charging for bread is not a good trend so $10 for 4 Parker House Rolls was disappointing. We also ordered the mussels and asiago fries. The chef seems to favor creamy white wine sauces - the added cream adds a heavy taste without adding flavor. The shrimp & sausage on mushroom ravioli had the cream sauce and cubes of sausage. The pasta primavera also had the cream sauce. It was super bland. We added chicken (see the photo of the chicken breast added to the top side of the dish not cooked in the dish). The salmon and its corresponding carrots were spiced with bebere which is very mild but not particularly enjoyable. And finally, the grilled rib-eye was bad, really bad. It was gelatinous and the worst steak we've ever had. I've only ever seen a steak cooked like this when it's cooked at too low a heat. We fed the leftover steak, chicken, and salmon to the dog.
