Ignition errors with our Pentair pool heater were very frustrating, because intermittent faults are hard to track down. You need someone who is both smart and persistent. Pentair sent several warranty service technicians who failed. Finally Dave arrived from Aqua Clear, and he was The Man. Testing and troubleshooting, replacing several possible problem parts, and finally suggesting upgrading the gas feed, even explaining how to go about doing that. (PG&E installed a bigger meter at no charge, so kudos to them.) Now the heater is working reliably. Also a shout out to Barbara, who handles customer communications. I called this pool service and spoke to a guy named David. I emailed pictures of our pool and pump that needed to be replaced, and kindly asked him to send me a quote. The email I got back was basically, "Sorry, can't help you." No reason, no explanation, nothing. I guess I won't describe how this made me feel, since people get sued nowadays for saying anything negative. So let me just say this........... "Wow!!!! What excellent service! The temperature sensor on our Jandy unit went out 9 months after install. Called for warranty service on Monday and had David our here on Thursday fixing us. Excellent, polite office staff kept us informed of the process and schedule thru the week and even made accommodations to get us fixed before a weekend pool party! Wow, what a piece of work Dave is. I asked him to come over for an estimate on upgrading my pool heater, filter, and pumps. I asked a lot of questions, because I like to understand my big decisions. When the conversation turned to costs, he quickly got frustrated with me when it became apparent that cost was a factor and I didn't want to overpay. "I'm not cheap", "I can't compete with the internet" and "I don't need your business" were his comments. Basically a big fat "F-- you if you are cost conscious, I'm here to bilk you". Finally, he just up and left without finishing the conversation because he realized I would not be taken advantage of. He could have had my business, at least for labor if I ended up buying parts online...but I guess he wasn't interested because he wouldn't get the parts markup. In the end I still need the labor done so I might have chosen to pay the markup, but he wasn't willing to hear me out through the decision process. So if you're looking to over pay, you might consider Aqua Clear. read more

My pool heater is about 13 years old, and it has been causing me a lot of trouble for the past 2 years. Another reputable pool service company (call them Company A) replaced the exact same part (the flow valve) twice during this period, and they also replaced another part called the thermister. They pointed out that I had a problem with spiders and cleaned out all of the gas openings that were blocked by spider webs. Six months later, the heater was having the same problem (cycling on and off, taking forever to heat the spa), so I thought that I should try another company that I respect (let's call them Company B), but the owner of that company told me that Dave at Aqua Clear would be the best person to help me with this problem. Dave initially tried to help me solve the problem on the phone, explaining how I could use a bent paper clip to clean out the gas openings, in case they were blocked. One of them was, and I was able to clean it, but the problem persisted. So I asked Dave to come out and take a look. Dave is a smart, friendly guy, and he was able to solve the problem in short order. It turned out that the new flow valve had broken, probably due to poor manufacturing. He gave me a lot of good advice about my pool, and he spent some time rummaging around in his well-stocked van for a replacement flow valve but couldn't find one. He promised to come back in a couple of days with the part, but to my surprise he showed up again about two hours later, having driven all the way to the parts supplier. His pricing was considerably less than I had paid at Company A because he only charged me for the piece that had broken, not the entire flow valve. I ventured to ask him about the not-so-good reviews he has received on Yelp. He has strong feelings about people who pump him for information and then turn around and buy their equipment on the internet, based on his recommendations, cutting into his potential earnings. I can't say that I blame him, even though I have been guilty of the same behavior on one occasion in the past. He is right in feeling that we need to support local businesses, or we may find ourselves without readily available expertise when we need it. I got the impression that Dave is an honest guy who really tries to do the right thing for his customers. He isn't trying to gouge people, judging from the facts that a) he tried to help me solve my problem for free on the phone, and b) he charged me much less than his competitor for the same replacement part. read more

They charge way too much for such little work. Their guys are over here for all of 5 minutes each week. Every month I get a bill for additional fees, "extras" such as pool salt, chlorine. Seems like they do "extras" every single time they come in the little time they are here so, my monthly bill is about 33% more than what I was expecting to pay each month. Very frustrating! Look around, many other pool services out there that are on the up & up and what your expected costs will be and guaranteed they will spend more time actually cleaning (ie. scrubbing tiles) rather than dumping cleaning supplies in your pool and charging you for it. read more

Dave is a real piece of work. He does not communicate at all with his customers. I contacted him to fix a temperature sensor under warranty and after giving all my information to his office person I never heard back from him. I emailed but no response. A couple weeks later we reset the pool equipment panel and it was working again. Turns out he came out but never bothered to tell me he was coming or that he fixed the problem. A few months later I contacted him again on a Monday morning, because he is the service company in our area for Pentair products, to fix my chlorine generator. I was told by his office person he would get back to me on a schedule. After a couple of days I emailed back to find out about a schedule and was told they would let me know when he had it scheduled. After a couple of more days I emailed asking if there was a schedule and never heard back. The following Tuesday evening I emailed asking what was going on and that I was going to contact Pentair directly to get service if he wasn't going to respond back. He emailed back the next day saying he was removing me from his queue because I was going to contact Pentair and to just deal with them. Again he never contacted to tell me at anytime that he had me scheduled in or anything about my repair. At the very least it is just common courtesy to let your customer know when you are planning on coming out to their property to do work. If you don't mind waiting on a pool repair company to show up whenever they decide without letting you know and possibly fixing your equipment and leaving it up to you to figure out someone fixed the problem then he may be your guy. Otherwise I would find a pool company that at least pretends they care about their customers. read more
