I was a big fan of this place for a long time. Then I asked them to come service my solar heater. It had 2 small leaks, which each required the replacement of a small piece of plastic. Then I got the bill. Almost $1200. $250/hour for labor! I was shocked. Their technicians are "highly trained" they told me. Guess they went to law school because they charge like lawyers! Then the repair failed shortly after. I requested a warranty repair. The guy came out and did the repair. In order to test it, he had to turn the pool on. It was winter and it had not been turned on in a while and so took time to build up suction. I assured the tech it would eventually run. He insisted that I must have a problem with the O ring. I replace it myself and knew it was ok, but he insisted. So I relented and let him change it, assuming it was no big deal. No mention of charging me. Then I got another bill for that for almost $200. To replace an O ring. I complained and they graciously took $80 off of the bill. wow. If a small family owned business is as rapacious as the big guys, why should I bother supporting them? Our pool was full of dirt from the heavy rains. Michael over a few visits cleaned the pool back to the original pristine clarity! He made sure we were happy with the outcome before leaving. When Rehannan came for our weekly maintenance she not only brought the pool back to being chemicly balanced she also found & explained a problem that was injecting foreign objects into the pool equipment. Terrible customer service. Weekly service person didn't notice pool equipment was not working, didn't notice hole in cleaner that was spouting out water. The manager didn't address the mechanical issues in a timely manner. As the customer, I had to keep calling them instead of them calling me. Also, senior management show up at your door unannounced, no scheduling or prior notice and expect you to be available. Crazy!! Last week the manager showed up to collect payment. Holy Donuts this place is expensive. Let me start by saying that I like shopping local and the gentleman behind the counter was really nice and seemed helpful. I value small business and what they add to our community. Knowledge is worth something, right? However, I cannot stomach paying $200 for a pool filter that I can buy online for $50. Is this guy's overhead that high that he needs to mark his inventory up 4x? I'd bet yes... I also inquired about their weekly pool cleaning service and it was astronomically overpriced too. Whoa. Sky Blue has been serving our pool for a while now -- despite some skipped services, their service has been okay. Honestly, we are so busy, that the last thing we need to do is worry about our pool -- our work schedules don't leave much time for pool use. But this past weekend, we turned the hot tub on, and it smelled and was cloudy. We could not use it. called and was told by Brenda that since our service tech had changed, our day was Tuesday, and she wasn't sure what the problem was. She was going to check and get back to me. Today she calls and says that our service was cancelled in mid- September, and that I was supposed to have received an email. Funny -- the last email I received was 09/22 saying my tech was in training, and my credit card was billed for the service. I emailed them on 10/17 about a quote they sent us to replace the pool pump. No response. Brenda would tell me nothing, saying Diane and Ryan were "not available." So -- no email, no nothing, no explanation about why our service was cancelled. Other than credit card charges, we've had very minimal contact with anyone -- ever. The pool is serviced, and that's it. It's not like we've had an encounter where we could have made someone angry -- we don't even have a dog that could bite anyone. Frankly, we're baffled. So Sky Blue has left us with left us with a smelly pool, no explanation, and not even the courtesy of a response to our inquiries. Is this someone you really want to do business with? Purchased a new pump from Sky Blue. We also needed to upgrade our Jandy controller (AquaLink) and get the Jandy iAqualink wireless system as well as a Jandy touch display to replace our 2004 display station. Sky Blue's quote was in line with the others we got. The specificity about re-piping & other aspects of the job as well as how to keep it as economical as possible was better than other contractors. They come across as organized & competent. They seem to 'sweat the details' better than other installers we spoke with (this was important to me). There is someone at the office to answer the phone & take messages. The office can reach the techs in the field (we dealt with Ryan) by cell if necessary. The folks who answer the phones are also knowledgeable about the products and can give prices (not always the case with pool stores/suppliers). Ryan did what it takes to get the job done right. He also spotted a problem with our water supply switch (float switch) and fixed this along with the pump install. They were fairly busy during our interaction during the week of the install. A return trip was needed to get the bugs out of the install (mainly moving the iAqualink antenna for good signal strength). Ryan showed up at the times he committed to. I can see why they are busy. OK, so it only took us 10 years to realize this fantastic pool service/supply shop was in our own backyard, but better late than never! Ryan Carlson and his folks Raoul & Diane are the absolute best! About a year ago our filter pump died, pool got swamp-like, and we ordered a Pent-air on-line (because it was a whole lot less expensive than getting from our old standby, Leslie's). Turns out that despite the fact that they had had our business for 10 years, Leslie's refused to install it because we didn't buy it from them. Best thing that ever happened, because that's when we found Sky Blue - Ryan did a great job installing the pump, re-plumbing our system to make optimize it, and reclaiming the Okefenokee swamp, turning it back into a sky blue pool...Personable and perfect pool service, the best we've ever had, and at a very competitive price. OK, so in my experience the typical pool guy isn't usually a rocket scientist - in marked contrast, Ryan is very smart, extremely expert, and a terrific contactor/plumber/mechanic/engineer. He redesigned our system and improved it incredibly! If you have a pool in the Los Gatos/Saratoga/Campbell/San Jose area, you owe it to yourself to check out Sky Blue.
