I was apprehensive about eating here after reading too many poor reviews of the many nearby restaurants (most on property I think) so I opted to get half price pastries in the cafe/gift shop. It took forever to purchase said pastries because no employee was working in that area. Prices in the bar were very steep ($14 draft beer, $30 sandwiches). There are also lots of pools within the many buildings (our building had 2 on different levels). And I found out part of the waterpark (no waves in wave pool) was closed when we're staying for maintenance. We got a discount through a Bank of America credit card so the total was about $160. Not a bad price for the amenities offered and the room size and quality.

All of our feet hurt from walking around on the really hard concrete. I guess I'd recommend you wear water shoes if you have them. We used a Get Out Pass and the whole process was seamless. It's worth getting because just a trip to Sunsplash is pretty much the same price as a Get Out Pass and you get so much out of it. I don't know if I'd go again because the cost is pretty high.

Unfortunately, our recent visit was a completely different experience. The facility itself is still nice, but the staff training and overall management have dramatically declined. Many of the lifeguards appeared to be very young and poorly trained. Instead of calmly communicating with families, they were constantly yelling through cones, making it difficult to understand their instructions. Even children who are confident swimmers were being shouted at to either stay directly next to a parent or get out of the water if a parent wasn't within arm's reach. The approach felt more intimidating than educational. The most concerning part was how emergencies were handled. A child got a bloody nose, and several lifeguards immediately rushed over, creating unnecessary chaos. During the commotion, another lifeguard slipped while running. The entire pool was then evacuated for about 15 minutes, guests were pushed away from the area, and the fire department was called. The firefighters ultimately left without providing treatment, making the situation seem far more dramatic than necessary. We were there with a friend who works for the fire department, and even he was surprised by how the situation was handled. When I politely asked a manager what had changed, I was told they were implementing new safety procedures because they had fallen behind other municipal pools. While I fully support strong safety standards, there's a huge difference between being safety-conscious and creating an environment filled with panic, yelling, and confusion. My children have never been so uncomfortable or anxious at a pool. Safety should make families feel more secure, not more frightened. I sincerely hope the staff receive better training on communication, professionalism, and emergency response, because this experience was disappointing compared to what this pool used to be.

I also observed interactions near the bar that gave me the impression that some people may have been meeting for paid companionship, along with several groups whose appearance and behavior made the environment feel less refined and less comfortable than I remember. I understand that July 4th is one of the busiest nights of the year and naturally attracts larger, more diverse crowds. Still, I was surprised by the overall atmosphere, which didn't reflect the level of elegance and service I've long associated with the Scottsdale Princess. After living nearby for more than a decade, it was disappointing to see what felt like a noticeable change in the character of the resort. Today, it seems to cater more to large crowds and entertainment than to the refined luxury experience that once set it apart. At times, it felt more like a busy amusement destination than a five-star resort. Given the current room rates, I believe there are several other luxury resorts in Scottsdale that offer a more peaceful, sophisticated experience and a higher level of service for a similar price. I sincerely hope management refocuses on the elegance and hospitality that made the Scottsdale Princess one of the area's premier destinations.

Now my buddy this man reaches into his pocket and pulls out what I can only describe as a historical artifact. I'm talking a doobie so big it looked like Bob Marley himself rolled it during a greatest hits tour. I said, "Absolutely not. I am a grown man. I got responsibilities. I got a mortgage. I got snacks at home I haven't even finished yet." That didn't matter. Next thing I know, windows are up, car turns into a Dutch oven of bad decisions, and now I'm just along for the ride literally and spiritually. Somewhere between "this is a bad idea" and "why is everything funny," I lost control of the evening. We pull into the park around that magical time you know, that in-between hour... not quite day, not quite night... like God dimmed the lights and said, "Alright boys, let's see what happens." The whole place is glowing neon lights, arcade buzz, roller coasters rattling in the distance. Felt like walking into a carnival dream... or maybe a fever dream. Jury's still out. Now here's the thing about this place it's been around since the late '70s, sitting right there in Phoenix like a desert time capsule of fun. You got four roller coasters, including the Desert Storm, which sounds fun until you're on it reconsidering every life choice that led you there. Then there's the Patriot wooden, loud, and about as gentle as a bar fight. And somehow... SOMEHOW... we thought tequila beforehand was a good idea. So now we're buzzed, slightly baked against our will, and wandering this park like three philosophers who lost their notes. We're laughing at everything. Nothing's funny but everything's hilarious. A trash can? Comedy gold. A churro? Best thing I've ever eaten in my life. A child running past me? I'm emotionally invested in his journey. But I'll give credit where it's due the park itself? Clean. Staff's friendly. Nobody's judging three grown men giggling like idiots. It's got that old-school charm too arcades, mini golf, rides, the whole deal. You can bring a family here... or whatever version of a situation we were. Now the rides... oh, the rides. Let me tell you something nothing will make you rediscover fear like being slightly out of your mind on a roller coaster you thought you could handle. I got scared... not once... not twice... but a few times. The kind of scared where you start making promises to God you don't intend to keep. "I'll be a better man if I survive this drop..." Didn't mean a word of it. By the end of the night, we had the munchies, the laughs, and just enough dignity left to get back to the car without needing a group meeting. For a couple hours, though? We were kids again. No responsibilities. No stress. Just lights, noise, and pure, ridiculous fun. So yeah Castles N' Coasters might be a family amusement park... but under the right or completely wrong circumstances, it turns into one hell of a story. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Just... maybe crack a window on the way there.

The female bathroom was nasty. I don't know how often they clean them, but there was paper all over the stall floor. The faucets had a lot of buildup on them. Both the male and female restrooms smelled funky. I didn't play at the putt putt section, but one day I'll be back to do that. Overall, a good arcade/food experience. Before heading out to get food, my sisters (who are 17) and I stopped to take a few pictures by the Fourth of July sign at the front of the casino. A tall, skinny white security guard with a ponytail approached us even though we weren't causing any problems. We were simply taking photos and walking toward the exit. He asked for my ID, examined it closely, and even bent it as if he didn't know what a legitimate ID looked like. He then asked if we were staying at the hotel. I told him yes and asked what the issue was. The only explanation he gave was that I "looked underage." My ID is real, and I was treated like I had done something wrong when I hadn't. The situation became even more uncomfortable when he and about six other security guards followed us all the way to the elevator. We were doing nothing more than taking pictures and leaving to get food, which we ended up not doing because of how uncomfortable the encounter made us feel. I've stayed at many casinos, and I've never been treated this way. Meanwhile, there were actual children running around the casino floor, yet security chose to single us out instead. I would recommend better training for your security staff, especially on how to verify IDs professionally and how to approach guests with respect. Unfortunately, because of this experience, I won't be returning.
