My wife and I have been to Aqua Terra 5 times before. It's been about a year though since our last time. I thought awhile about writing this review, but what finally sealed it for me was that I needed to say something because eating out has become so expensive and when a restaurant commands prices such as $60 for a Filet (steak), $30 for shrimp and grits and $30 for fried chicken, it better be good. Rating it 1-star may be harsh, but there were not many bright spots in this visit. I'll start by saying something positive and that is that our server, Jenny was attentive, friendly and responsive. No issues there. Now for the food. I ordered the Filet Conserva (the $60 steak). I ordered it medium. And I confirmed with the server what medium is so we were both on the same page. Well, the steak was mostly medium-well in the middle and then well to very-well as I worked out from the center of the steak. Flavor was ok, but nothing that would differentiate it from a $30 Filet at one of any steak chain restaurants you can name (not an exaggeration). And it came to the table just warm. I'm not being critical or mean, that is just how it tasted. I was very disappointed and I debated about saying something, but I did not. I didn't eat all day and it was already 8:00pm. Normally I would have given them another shot, but our reservation was in the evening and we had to wait on our son to get there. He was about 40-min away. My wife ordered the shrimp and grits. Big disappointment here too. Couple things. First, the grits and overall flavor was VERY bland and the grits didn't seem to have any consistency. It seemed more like shrimp and mush. The shrimp were small and there were 7 of them in there. They tasted pretty good. My wife ate the shrimp and left the goop, I mean grits. Lastly, my son ordered the Fried Chicken. He said that was great. Some of the best fried chicken he's ever had. For $30 it should be. He was happy with it so kudos to the chef for that dish. My wife and I also had lobster bisque. It was good, but needed more sherry flavor. We love lobster bisque and there are some other area restaurants that offer it and it is better. We ended up getting out of there spending just under $240.00. Very disappointed to have come away with such a bad experience. Unfortunately we'll be crossing off Aqua Terra from our list of restaurants. read more

Came into lunch today with my girlfriends and had the best time. Their french country salad with protein is always my go to and with the portions I ALWAYS have left overs. The real kicker is they even box up your food for you if you're comfortable! I also received amazing service today from not only one but two servers. Lexi and Ivee were great and never missed a beat. Came for my birthday at lunch w my littlest and we were not impressed. You know the wedge salad with the fresh large slice of lettuce and all the toppings? This isn't it. It's a few romaine leads with some bacon which was good, a few tomatoes, and sooooo much bleu cheese they should've called it a cheese salad. It was ok, but can't recommend. The fish & chips. The chips were soggy fries. The fish was nice and crispy bit lacked any flavor. Even their homemade tartar sauce was only ok. The coleslaw was quite nice though, best part of the dish. I was surprised that even though I only ate half of it the waitress didn't say anything. ‍ My sons Alfredo came our way too hot, he really couldn't eat it. It finally cooled enough by the time I hate half of my meal and he likes it ok. I was surprised they didn't do anything dor my birthday but that is what it is. Overall, I'm not sure I'd rush back and was really hoping I could rave about a local spot. read more

Aqua Terra Bistro is a great date spot in downtown Buford. You have to get their fried chicken and take home a jar of their dip that goes with their bread. The Seared Scallops are also really good as well as their Filet Mignon! read more

Visited this restaurant yesterday for lunch. First I must say I have not been inside this building since the early 70s. The Ambiance they have created is awesome I am loving what people are doing with these old buildings. Way back in the day these Builders were segregated and divided up as such. Today they have been reorganized and are beautiful inside thank you very much for creating such a beautiful space. Now for the food we started with the bread and spread. It was delicious. I forgot to purchase a jar to take home. And was happy to hear that they allowed that. Then the mains came we had fish and chips and shrimp and grits. The grits had really really good flavor. I'm really pleased with the stone ground grits they used it was really nice. My sister had the fish and chips and she really loved the dill tartar sauce that accompanied it. This place is *super expensive* but the food is really good. I would definitely use this place for special occasions. I attended a very large group dinner in the basement and they provided great service. A small warning to those who like their food separated--your different foods are probably going to be touching. Drinks: The pineapple upside down cake Martini is good but not my favorite (I did not want a second one). The Aqua-tini is amazing and has great balance of sweet and bubbly and just smooth--I could drink these all night and they are definitely my favorite. Appetizers: The sweet potato blue cheese chips were fantastic, do not miss those. The charcuterie tray was an eclectic mix of ingredients. I could live without the crab cakes (I am extremely picky about crab cakes and if they don't have big chunks of jumbo crab meat, I'd rather pass and kind of wish I had stuck to the other apps). The bread with special tomato oil dip is fabulous! Salads: I had the French country salad. Meh. It was ok. I wish I had gotten the beet salad. A friend of mine did get the beet salad and she had wished it was not dressed so heavily, but I would have loved it that way! Main courses: I enjoyed every bite of the cedar grilled salmon atop smashed potatoes and zucchini strips. All of it worked together very well. I don't know if I loved the zucchini or the salmon the most, it was all that good. I would pass on the butternut squash ravioli that my coworker let me try. That dish needed salt *big time*! I had some in my purse and gave it to the two people who had ordered the ravioli around me and they were very appreciative. What does Atlanta have against salt? I heard several people rave about how much they loved their steaks and how they were cooked just like they ordered. For a group of over 25, that's pretty amazing. Been here twice now one in dining room and once doordash today. Both times exceptional. Only issue is wouldn't let me go over 100$ on doordash and with apps and sides I couldn't get two dinners so we split one. Would've ordered 2 dinners an app and a side but rules said no. Great atmosphere, the apps and entries are wonderful, and a very friendly and attentive staff. The food is pricey, but what you receive is prepared to perfection. My only knock is the scallops entree. The half order is $40 and the full is $60. With the half order you only get two (2) scallops. I'm guessing the full order would be four (4) scallops. This is a lovely restaurant in a great location in downtown Buford. We've been eating here for years for special celebrations. This time we enjoyed our salads very much, but the rest of the meal was not really edible. The steak was mostly fat and the rest was tough-it was their special of the night. The other food on the plate was just mushy vegetables. The lobster bisque had a sour taste that does not belong in a bisque. The waitress noticed we didn't eat much and asked if we wanted a box to take it home, but of course the answer was no. We were enjoying a lovely evening with friends, so did not want to make a scene at the table by sending the food back to the kitchen. The decor and ambience is very cozy/intimate. Our waitress was named Tarra, she was so nice and attentive.She walked us thru the menu and made lots of helpful recommendations.She had a large party of guests and I was very impressed that she gave us just as much attention. They have a great drink menu including a flight of bourbon which is delicious, my husband loved it. They have a delicious bread with a yummy spread that comes complementary. love. Service is super friendly and excellent. They give great recommendations. They also have delicious cocktails. We got a appetizer, the bacon wrapped dates which were still good!! Bite-size and sweet, they are easily shareable, not super heavy. For dinner we shared a salad and a delicious steak. LaSalle it was amazing and the steakhouse very well-made. Excellent portions and size of the steak. the sides were also well proportioned. For dessert we had the market price cheesecake which is blueberry. It's like a brick of a cheesecake Sizewise. It's delicious and it's very easily shareable for two maybe even three people depending on how much you eat. Overall I love this place and will be back. It's an excellent place to bring a family, friends are nice date night. I will say it is on those pricier side, but nothing insane. there's street parking and there's not a private parking lot so you may have to walk there. It's in a lovely area. It's a great place to go on a summer night or anytime really. They've been open a long time this is the first time I've heard about them. I'm so glad we went. try it! read more

I agree with most of the reviews; they are very friendly and the food is good. My reason for the 4 stars is, while everything was good, it was expensive for the portions. I ordered a filet, and my wife ordered halibut. Sorry I didn't take pics this time. Both dishes were delicious, and done perfectly. They were simply overpriced in my opinion. I made a last minute decision to change a birthday celebration venue from an unacccommodating restaurant to Aqua Terra Bistro. The seating for seven (round table), staff, service, food and presentation of cake were OUTSTANDING! Hailey and Sydney made us all feel pampered! One guest requested gluten free options. Sydney made appropriate menu suggestions and the guest's food was served by the same waiter who used gloves! The food was delicious! Sydney gave the guest of honor plenty of time to open cards/presents before bringing in the outside cake (we were allowed to bring in) which was beautifully presented! I've been wanting to try this place for a while now. We went with another couple for my birthday dinner. We had 8:15 reservation, it was busy but we were sat before 8:15. I love the location, it's so cute inside. I did see they have a private dinning area downstairs if you have a large group, it would be nice. We started with the calamari, very good! And I had the cupids mojito, also very good! The server was nice and informed us of a little bit about the restaurant & the specials for the night. She was also helpful about any questions and substitutes we wanted to make to a dish. Our friends had the filet conserva, they loved it and finished it completely. My husband didn't love his ribeye, said it was lacking flavor. But it looked fantastic, presentation was beautiful. My fish was also very good. I feel like it could have been cooked a little bit more, but the risotto was delicious. I will say I was surprised when my husband told the server we were celebrating a birthday & they didn't give you a complimentary dessert, but i know not every where does this. That's really my only complaint about this place. So just a warning if you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary or whatever the occasion. read more

I really hate to do this but I have to. I came in for dinner last night and was excited to take two of my friends here because I had been raving about it and they have never been. I ordered the lobster bisque which was good but lacked the chunks that I'm used to but the taste was there. For my entrée, I ordered the scallop pasta dish which was amazing the last time I had it here and this time it came with two scallops (Yup! don't adjust your screen you read that right ...TWO scallops) and the sauce on the pasta was so heavy that it became impossible to eat. IT WAS SOUP! Not to mention I had asked for no spinach with asparagus as a substitute but was given spinach in the dish with a side of asparagus spears. If the taste was there it would've been okay but the spears were chewy, the scallops were meh, and the entire dish lacked seasoning as well (I don't recall saying that I was allergic to salt & pepper!). I spoke with our waiter Adam and he apologized and offered to bring me the dish remade or whatever I wanted instead. So here's the thing... Imagine all day that you've day dreamt about eating a specific dish? (Insert heart eye emojis) So you can imagine that I became HANGRY (Hungry + Angry is so real!) The thought of thinking of a replacement meal that would now satisfy my belly became a nightmare. The manager came over and offered me four seared scallops (Ladies & Gentlemen I now have SIX! HA) Again, nothing to write home about but at 9 PM you'll make it work. When the bill came the dish was still on there and I asked Alex if I didn't eat it and it was taken away then why isn't it removed? His response was "Well we did bring you extra scallops...." WOW! I've never experienced such a low level of customer service and I dine out A LOT! Sorry... Not Sorry but Aqua Terra has now lost a returning customer. read more
