I am really amazed by the quality, taste, generous portions and the great service of this place. Went here for dinner on Friday night . We sat in the patio. They have free parking lot in the back. Surprisingly, the restaurant was very empty. Only 3 tables including us, which I was really sad to see. They have really good prices to considering the portions and the quality. I really hope they succeed and can stay in business. We had the khachapuri for appetizer. For main we had chicken Kiev, sturgeon fish and the lamb luleh. I am a huge chicken Kiev fan and I am hard to please but this was so tasty and crispy, loaded with lots of butter. The sturgeon was super fresh, juicy and tasty. Same with the lamb luleh. We also had Russian beer and Ukrainian beer. We loved everything. Staff were very nice and polite. I highly recommend this place . Go and support them

Wow, wow,wow The food is amazing. We were looking for a new place to go out to and came across this restaurant and we are happy we did. The food is really good. From the starters to the desserts. We are coming back again for sure to try different dishes.

    Bubble gum and bloody masha

Came here for an Early Valentine's dinner on a Thursday evening. We had reservations for 7 pm and parked in one of the many open street meters. We were greeted immediately and allowed to sit in at any table. The inside was warm, with many interesting Eastern European decorations lining the walls. There were only 2 other couples when we arrived so it was pretty quiet and intimate. They definitely have larger tables for groups though so I imagine it can get louder. The service throughout was quick and attentive. We even asked our server for his favorite entree on the menu. We first started with the traditional Ukrainian borscht and the khachapuri (traditional Georgian bread stuffed with melting cheese). For drinks, my boyfriend got the bloody masha and I, in a hurry, ordered the bubble gum. My rationale was that I knew they had cool infused vodkas and the drink contained infused black currant vodka. For the entrees we ended up ordering the pork shashlik and the chicken tabaka (recommended by the server). We also ended up ordering a bottle of Chelsea Merlot to share. We got a basket of white and dark bread slices with spreadable butter while we waited. The borscht was good, it was served piping hot with a scoop of sour cream. I think you can only get it cold in the summer if that's what you were expecting (I was). The beet flavor was very mild and there were yummy chunks of beef inside. A side of toasted bread with cheese came with it which was yummy as well. The khachapuri was very good! Flakey and stuffed with a slightly salty cheese. The bloody masha was as expected, yum. I did not like the bubble gum. It did taste exactly like bubble gum but it reminded me of Pepto Bismol. Would personally not get again. I think I would like to try their vodka sampler. The best part of the meal was definitely the entrees. The pork was so savory and flavorful. My boyfriend said the flavor reminded him of Italian sausage. It was super juicy and Smokey. The fried bird was crispy and delicious as well. Juicy on the inside and buttery on the outside. Both meats were good on their own but also went well with the tangy ketchup-like sauce. They were each served with a slaw like cabbage vegetable salad and homestyle potatoes with mushrooms. Although it was on the more expensive side, it was a nice dinner and new experience for us. I haven't tried very much Eastern European food but I would like to try more sometime! From here, I would like to try the chicken Kiev and some dessert next time.

Quiant restaurant with a perfect menu for Ukrainian cuisine! The decor felt like a great mix of warm vibes and a casualish fine dining experience. Their restaurant was basically empty during our visit as it was a rainy Thursday night before Valentine's Day. We were of course sat immediately and checked on more than frequently. We tried their borscht soup served hot due to the rainy weather, which was weirdly served without the cream inside already mixed, nevertheless it's beety taste was scrumptious and light. We were celebrating a bit and ordered a red wine and a couple of cocktails. Their Bloody Mary was very tasty/peppery. It had great consistent flavor and a nice liquor for a light buzz. Their bubble gum on the other hand was similar to a pepto bismal - i tried chugging it the same way i would with medicine, id definitely recommend not getting that drink. Our entrees were certainly the highlight of the meal, each dish was hearty and had plenty of protein complimented by fresh veggies and savory potato's. The chicken was excellent and juicy, and their pork had great bratwurst-like flavor that I just couldn't help but take some of my girlfriend's portions lol. Overall our dinner was great! Not sure if I'd return but overall the food was pleasant, filling, and cooked well. Very happy to have tried the cuisine as it's not all that accessible.

Beef stroganoff, chicken kiev, cabbage. All Good!

I don't know much about Eastern European cuisine, but I'd say this is some goood "home" cookin. The Fish soup is savory and herby. The beef Stroganoff is a beef style stew extraordinaire. The Chicken Blintzes taste like a chicken pot pie in a wrap, so good. The Chcken Kiev is very good, salads are great, a hint of dill. Cabbage wraps are alos very good. Not sure there's anything here that doesn't please the palate.

Great service in a cozy and homely restaurant! First time trying Ukrainian food and definitely won't be my last! Our server was so helpful in explaining each dish and what to order. My favorite was the borscht and delicious chicken shashlik!! I'm excited to come back with guests soon :)

Location 4: On Ventura Blvd in Tarzana, CA in the SFV. Metered self-parking is available but hard to find. I understand they have a private parking lot as well which I have not used. There is no Valet parking. Venue 4: Nice and inviting set up with a large indoor area including a bar, as well as cozy garden seating. Service 4: Our server was nice, polite and attentive. No complaints whatsoever. Food 4: Large menu of Eastern European fare, with emphasis on Ukrainian cuisine. For appetizers, we had the Olivier Salad, the Herring Traktir, and the Beef Tongue. For main courses, we had Beef Stroganoff, the Chicken Kiev, the Chicken Cutlets, and the Chicken Schnitzel. For dessert, we had the Syrniki (cheese pancakes with sour cream and strawberry preserves). All were delicious and highly recommended. Food prices were reasonable. Drinks 4: Modest selection of wines. Some unique and interesting Ukrainian beverages such as Kvass, Mors, and Compote as well as soft drinks, tea and coffee. They also have a large selection of home-made infused vodkas that looked very interesting, but I did not get a chance to try. We had some wine and soft drinks. Drink prices were reasonable also. The Last Word 4: A pleasant and unique culinary experience, different from your typical San Fernando Valley outings. I enjoyed my visit and will be going back again!

Food here was amazing and we only got to the appetizers part! We can't wait to go back for the main courses of course. If you are a vodka fan, this is the place for you!!! Authentically all delicious food and vodkas!! We had our Russian friend take us here and she knew exactly what to order for all of our palates enjoyment. The beef tongue surprisingly was so tender and great flavor, just don't look at it. Nothing fried here so it is great for the conscious eater but be prepared they pickle a lot here so it's great for you. Outdoor and indoor seating available and I literally felt like I was eating at an invitation to come over and dine at their home. Ambiance was very traditional with all the Russian dolls above the fireplace even! Great service, good food and damn fine infusion of Vodkas!!

I'm so grateful for my neighbors introducing this restaurant to me. The ambiance is great and the staff and food are phenomenal. Anastasia is also a delight and so helpful. The drinks: I'm not normally a drink person, but the people I went with are and the portions are so huge, we all shared. We first tried two beers (pictured). They were good. Light and refreshing. Then we ordered the strawberry compote. That was too sweet on its own, but great when diluted with water. I also tried a shot of pickle vodka. Amazing! The food: I've gone twice in a week the food is that good. We've ordered chicken blintzes, herring with potatoes, traditional borscht, cold borscht, potato vareniki, sauerkraut vareniki, chicken kiev, lamb chops, and beef shishlik. I loved both borscht dishes and cannot decide between the two. The cold dish made me nostalgic for my time in Poland. It was perfection. The warm borscht was perfectly comforting. It'd be great on a cold day. Of the appetizers, I liked the potato vareniki the best. If you want to up the game, add the creamy mushroom sauce. It's so buttery and mouthwatering. The sauerkraut was the perfect medley of sweet onions and cabbage. I enjoyed the blintzes, but didn't care much for the chicken. That's a me thing though. The herring also reminded me of Poland, but the stand-out of that dish was the garlic potatoes. I could eat nothing but those potatoes. Again, I'm not a chicken person, so I wasn't a fan of the Chicken Kiev. There was definitely a volcano of butter. The mashed potatoes that came with it were the best. They were so smooth. My two favorite dishes were the lamb chops and beef shishlik. The meat of the two dishes was phenomenal! They were cooked perfectly, so tender and juicy; they just melted in my mouth. I have left this place both visits in such a great mood. I cannot wait to come back.

Great food, great service! Authentic eastern european food in Tarzana! The menu is in English so don't be shy and try some new cuisine -- you won't be disappointed!

Disappointingly quiet, we entered the cozy restaurant adorned by newspaper clips, polish coats of arms, and were greeted by our friendly waiter. I had the meat patties ($24) which were delectable. Rich ground beef and pork spiced perfectly and fried with an accompanying gravy. Rich, but not greasy. My wife had the chicken schnitzel ($30) which was good but not groundbreaking, and the kids a number of perogis ($25) I found excellent. Accompanying the two adult meals was soup (a delectable tomato and a surprisingly sour savory pickle) and salad. We concluded with a delicious strawberry jam crepe ($15, see photo). The soup and meat paddies were the strongest entries on the menu that evening. The service was warm and genuine, taking our order, giving recommendations, communicating in polish as per our preference, and the restaurant was cozy and clean. Prices, as listed above, were reasonable considering the accompanying soup and salad. Overall, Polka is a solid restaurant with excellent food and service at a good price. Got some boiled and some…read morepan fried--both were nice but the pan fried edged out slightly with a little more flavor from the light caramelization on the outside. I wish there had been more caramelized onions to provide a more tasty contrast with the mild perogies. The highlight was the flaming cherries & cheese (it was cream cheese) crepe. Tasty and fun! The modest sounding chocolate pudding is also surprisingly delicious. Service was attentive.
