White Lotus Farms Cafe - Customer favorite, the breakfast sandwich in its criox like glory

The experience itself is bright and pleasant, with an open atrium to the upstairs dining area. But don't get too comfy. No laptops allowed here. Doesn't look like there's WiFi either. The food was farmers market fresh. Lots of fresh amazing pastries if you come early. Not sure if they sell out--kind of low key at least compared to the university scene. One specialty is the breakfast sandwich. Basically a croissant looking roll sliced and toasted, filled with breakfast stuff. No wonder it's a favorite. We also had omelets. Simple cheese with buttered French bread toast. VERY GOOD. I also got a side of sausage with cheese on it for a protein boost. The other side of the store had rolls of fresh bread. Also lots of local honey products. New product we had to try was the honey granuals. I'll let you know how it tastes.

This is a review for the White Lotus cafe on Zeeb road (not the farms on Liberty)…read more This place is now my go-to for West Side hang-out. Anytime I have a family member visit me we go here. (I'm thinking of holding my office hours here in the fall, IN PERSON, over real coffee! this coffee is yummmmmmmy) From the moment I walk in the door I am greeted with friendly, knowledgeable staff. Who all know me by my first name! (and I have a difficult Spanish name). They greet me with a smile, never rush me, and take my order all the while answering any questions I might have. Since their menu is always evolving and changing, it's great that they take the time to walk through my options. So they have their standard amazing pizzas (which i first had at the farm) and their shockingly authentic pastries (even better croissants than I have had in Paris). But last week I tried their new breakfast food, and MAN! It was GOOD! the quiche, the omelet....and although I am convinced their chai is the best in Ann Arbor (it's not a premade mix of sugar and chemicals, it's the real deal) ...they now have this new line of matcha, so so good. Sarah and Kat make baristas run for cover, they are that good. And even with all that goodness, I was SHOCKED out of my mind when I had their eggplant sandwich. That thing is fire. FIRE. My family and I are big meat eaters, so when this one hit the scene, we couldn't believe how tasty it was. Even writing this review right now makes me want to go there and eat one. (I'll still keep trying their amazing ever-new menu, but this eggplant sandwich has become a standard) Also, there is this very cute small little market attached where I stop by at the end of the day to pick up freshly made bread for dinner. We love the sesame bread, but geez louise, the baguettes are addictive. Their head baker is INSANELY talented. Remember that scene in Ratatouille when the food critic gets transported to a core memory? That happens to me when I eat that bread. I have purchased goat milk soap there (its handmade by the baker's wife), hot chocolate mix, a kabocha squash, this no sugar added mango puree (which I made a no-sugar added mango torte with). They have these really cool unique products, and it really is a treat to stop by. The place is beautiful, and it is a gem to have such a high quality place to eat on this side of town. The passion that these people have comes through in their food, the products they sell, and the way they treat their community. I love Ann Arbor, and I love this cafe. (okay now i really am going to go and get that eggplant sandwich)

In Detroit? No!? A legend of Ann Arbor's University of Michigan in Detroit's airport? and: No LINE! Crazy! Because it is, by default, worth every chew in A-squared. If im gonna pay for a fresh, tasty, sliced gourmet turkey, munster cheese delicatessen sandwich, in Detroit Airport, it's going to be worth every stinkin' nickel! It was! -even the bread-crust was soft! And I don't own stock in Zingermans either- p.s. Zingermans ISN'T "fast(quick)-food"! It's the finest "guarded-recipe" family food on the Michigan market worth waiting for!

Service is fine tuned to the huge volume of customers that arrive every day. Ordering is down to a science, once one gets familiar with the ordering kiosk. Assistants are nearby if you have any trouble. Order to take out or dine in. We like to dine in as the atmosphere on the second floor dining area (steps or elevator to ascend up) is fun and whimsical. Very casual. Pictures below describe what we chose (and LOVED)! As a MSU Spartan, GO GREEN, Zingermans might be one of the only reasons I'd travel to blue nation! Worth the sacrifice... : ) (just kidding)
