Used to love this place but had a really unfortunate experience. I order a large fry and they miss made and charged my order. They offer to remake it but I didn't want to waste food so I took them. I then asked about refunding me the difference and they said because I some of them they couldn't. Felt like a mistake they should correct I didn't agree to pay that. read more

I do not normally write reviews but maybe I can save someone there money before stepping into this establishment. Let's be honest $12.25 for fries is an absolute rip off. This place is not worth the price you will be paying. Charging fine dinning prices for mediocre food. I do not recommend eating here. Driving up the price for food is not a great way to retain customers. The owner should be ashamed of themselves. They are essentially robbing people. A favorite go-to dinner spot when I hang out in Arcata. Central location and open late--nice option if you get peckish after dinner hours. Staff are friendly and you get your drink and food fast. Food should fit most diets and moods: a wide range of healthy, veggie, pesco, but also over to lots of pizza, meat, and grease. If you like seafood, I'd particularly recommend the chimichurri fish sandwich and tuna melt. Small but very tasty beer selection. I thought prices were very reasonable. A laid back sit-down area but chill and comfortable. Highly recommended. read more

Ordered food for delivery. It took forever, which really wasn't the issue. I ordered a double burger with cheddar cheese, extra pickles, and ketchup. I got two black patties with some random white cheese and nothing else. Not worth eating or the one hour wait, or the $20.00 my order ended up being. The sweet potato fries were also extra crispy and since there was no sauce with our orders, also not edible. Also- no napkins, no ketchup, no utensils. I lived in town about 6 years ago and have fond memory of APD. Last night I ordered a double cheese burger and garlic cheese fries. APD charged almost $30. I was surprised but I stayed the course, bought the food and went home to consume this bounty. The burger had bacon, cheese, avocado and jalapeños. It was okay. It was little dry and not much taste. Even with all the good toppings. The garlic cheese fries, I had to throw them away. They had a mound of fresh garlic, so strong it ruined the experience. There was so much garlic, I couldn't see the French fries. Don't get me wrong, I love garlic! This, this was a bombardment on my taste buds and stomach. I tried to fight and muscle it down. In the end, after a few more bites, I had to give up. To much garlic!!! In the end, I feel I spent too much money for food I found disappointing. Although I've been here many times years ago, I recently went again with my teenagers and was reminded how good it is. A slice of pizza is huge and even my always hungry teenage son was impressed with how big it was. My daughter, who is a connoisseur of tuna melts, said it was pretty good, but not in her top 3. My burger was delicious and they did not skimp on the avocado. Employees were nice. Restaurant inside is pretty much what you would expect from a pizza and burger joint. It's a little dark and the condiments are self serve next to the soda fountain. You bus your own table so I wouldn't say it's the cleanest dining area I've seen but I wouldn't call it dirty either. Arcata Pizza and Deli catches fish for their fish 'n chips from their own boat with hook and line. Fabulous fish with Panko breading and very good fries. The cole slaw is also really good. It was a little fishier tasting so I wondered about the freshness but only slightly. My wife ordered the Mediterranean salad which was huge - definitely good for two people to split. Likewise my albacore sandwich had three generous 1" fillet chunks. The sesame seed bun was fine but somewhat generic, store bought. It could easily be 5 stars if not for a few minor misses. I had a pretty lame experience tonight. Called to order a reuben. The woman on the phone sounded stressed out. She responded that they had a limited menu "due to Covid", and that the reuben wasn't available. I asked what sandwiches they had. At first she irrtatedly responded that they were very busy, and that their menu was online. By the way, I had already looked at the online menu, which doesn't seem to say what is and isn't available. But, possibly realizing this, she quickly rattled off a short list of sandwiches. I asked if they had a turkey club, and they did. They told me it would be 25 minutes. Today I went in for a lunch which is the second time this month. I was craving a patty melt, specifically. Unfortunately it wasn't on the menu but the two behind the counter were trying to come up with a way to make that happen "just get this burger, add this and take away that." Actually, I decided that the Bleu Cheese and bacon burger sounded really good so I just went with that but I do appreciate their effort to give me what I want. I ordered the small fries as well. They do have a combo deal that includes the fries and drink but since I don't order sodas I just went with the burger and fries. My name was called in about 10 minutes. This is a place where you go get your food from the counter (although they apparently do deliver to the table occasionally, probably when they aren't slammed.) First I took a picture of my food and then went back to get my required mustard for the burger. This was actually one of the best burgers I've had in a while. Lettuce, tomato, thinly sliced onions were on the side in case I wanted any. The bacon was perfectly crispy which I appreciate so there isn't any animalistic pulling on the bacon while taking a bite. I made quite a mess of myself with my use of condiments but I was dining alone so I didn't care. I appreciate that their fries were crispy and shoestring style. I did NOT finish them. I do really wish the fries were half as much because without a little self discipline, a person could totally eat them all and regret it later. I enjoyed my seat at the window with a local paper, some sunshine and a lunch that was probably big enough to share. I went in before noon and business was really starting to pick up at noon and it was a holiday so I have no doubt they get busier. The other recent lunch I had was a chef salad and it was really good and fresh. I'd like to try their other salads so more visits for me. I was reminded later that they typically have fish on the menu that they catch so next time I need to remember that and there WILL be a next time. A decent burger at a fair price. May not be the cheapest burger in town but for nor-cal it's right about average. Cold beer on tap. Pizza by the slice. Specialty fries, served with a multitude of options. Hot and cold sandwiches. A variety of great salads. Daily specials. APD is a local landmark - ever changing artwork and the crowd varies depending on what time of the day it is as well as what time of the year. It's hard to get a seat when school is in most afternoons, however on my most recent visit, school was out for the summer and it was after 1pm... both of these combinations made for a pleasant and well prepared and quick lunch. Really great Caesar salad with blackened chicken. It's seriously satisfying, great portion size, it's a full meal, you can split it. It's well dressed, good croutons, well seasoned chicken --- it's more than just lettuce. My husband thinks the albacore tuna melt is very good. They use to make it thick not sure if they still do. Pizza by the slice is easy, they reheat it and the bottom is nice and crunchy. The have fries and sandwiches, all the classics. They do French fries with yummy toppings. Tiny place with a huge menu! I prefer take out because of the noise. Pizza has a New York flair, flat, chewy crust and flavorful sauce. The poor girl behind the counter was trying to take our order but it was her first day and no one was helping her or the other 8 people in line behind us. 4 or 5 people were scurrying around behind the counter but no one else was taking orders. The bearded dude was drunk or high or something and rang himself up for a slice of pizza, ate it out in the dining room with everyone else, took up a table for four where there were people standing around waiting for tables, then he walked back behind the counter, punched in something on the cash register and I was relieved that he was going to start taking orders...wrong! He ignored everyone in line and walked around behind the counter looking like a drunk. So, how were my orgasmic sweet potato fries, you ask? Dunno, they forgot to bring them out! Stupid me, I had to remind them of my over priced item instead of just asking for a refund. When they finally came out there were tasty, I will admit.
