It takes me around 8-20 minutes for a coffee... with or without others in the shop. Most the employees are lifeless. Flavored coffees OK, espresso good. A great alternative to Starbucks for those looking for a local coffee spot. The interior is roomy, looks like it may have been a bar or ice cream parlor prior to being a coffee shop. The exterior doesn't come off as cute, or modern. However, it is close to the Fox River, which would drive in quite a bit of foot traffic during the warmer days. I had the house brew, and a ham and cheese bagel. The coffee was good, and at a fair price. Bagel was tasty, but not huge. Cost 7 and some change for the breakfast. They have quite a few types of coffee, and multiple ways to prepare the drinks for you. And a full bakery, with pastries, sandwiches, and I believe salads. This is one of my favorite locally owned coffee shops in the area. The coffee is consistently great and the food is wonderful.

My absolute favorite coffee shop in the area! Perfect place to work on homework, as I go often on the weekends. But the best part is the quality of their products, especially the drinks. I am never disappointed with what I get. They craft high quality lattes. Although it takes a little time for them to be made, it is well worth the wait. They also always have fun latte combinations to try, such as the French Toast latte. Another thing Arcedium exceeds at is their drip coffee. I love that they showcase their roaster in the middle of their shop, while they also have a cart full of their freshly roasted coffee beans. They have at least 12-15 different roasts and flavors, all roasted in-house, and they all taste amazing. read more

I love the Arcedium, I always have, but this afternoon when I went in, the young lady that was working provided me with service that was less than acceptable. She was rude and had an attitude that I didn't appreciate. I think I possibly heard a coworker call her Sydney? Two words: Aztec Mocha. Verdict? Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm, with a frothy milk mustache! So, Arcedium is truly a suburban original: They roast their beans in house and the staffers are easy-on-the-eyes sweethearts. I could easily hang in here all day, and almost did as I clocked in a solid 2.5 hours. If you're trying to get some work done, you won't have any problems between the abundant outlets, tables and comfortable chairs. It's also on the quiet side in here, though they were rocking an A+ playlist the day I was in (just loud enough). Eventually, you will get hungry and you can satiate with a savory or a sweet from their menu including croissants, scones, quiche, cookies, paninis and grilled cheese. Come here almost daily for an Aztec mocha. They have great variety in coffees, teas and specialty drinks. Their beans come from all over the globe and they happen to be the only place I know of where you can buy a burlap sack. Give it a try instead of Dunkin or Starbucks one day and you will be pleasantly surprised. read more

I think I've found my new coffee shop! :) Back in the day, I used to go the Ragamuffin which was located by river in down town St. Charles. But after that closed a number of years ago, I was only left with chains around the area. Now returning to St. Charles after a few years, I'm very happy to have found Arcedium. Friendly people, great drinks, and a cool inside (I love the wrap around counter- it's super spacious and its a fun and stylish fixture. I also like the local art around the shop). I recommend the arctic monkey? haha I'm not sure what it was called but it sure was delicious. It definitely had mocha, peanut butter, and bananas. I also had a blueberry crumble slice and tasted their key lime bar. They were fine but my drink out sung both them. I'm just really excited to try the rest of their coffee and I cannot wait to go back. read more

Arcedium is THE place to go for coffee in the Fox Valley. They roast their own beans--and to perfection!--which is something that is important for a coffee snob like myself. I've never had a drink I didn't like, although my go-to's are the Vanilla Americano and Chai Tea Latte. The coffee is always strong and smooth. The food options are limited to Panini's, salads, and baked goods, but everything I've tried has been very tasty. Although the service can be slow when it is busy--which is most of the time--the baristas are all very friendly. They make their best effort to remember you and your usual order. One barista in particular remembers that I always order my drink with soy milk and will remind me if I forget. With its trendy, welcoming atmosphere and not-too-loud music, it is a great environment for any occasion, whether it's getting work done or socializing. There are several tables, lounge chairs, and bar seating. It even has a private room off the main seating area that can be reserved for work meetings and study sessions. During busy times, however, it can be difficult to find a table since seating is fairly limited. I LOVE Arcedium! It's kind of that little local shop everyone has in their mind's eye as to what they want to visit in a local coffee shop. Seems that many agree as it's always jam packed with a wide variety of customers too: business types, coffee date get togethers, book cramming students, etc... The food and drinks are excellent. They roast their own coffee and have numerous different types for you to try. I don't really drink much black coffee anymore so highly suggest an exceptional latte but know they're the real deal with all the drinks I've sampled. The staff is super bubbly, friendly, and full of passions. THE only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because of the lack of seating, it gets PACKED, & the fact that our favorite/hot/best Barista (my daughter & I refer to as Mr. ElectroSex Hair, lol) wasn't working on my last 2 visits to make my Dirty Non-Fat Chai Latte! :*( My daughter & her friends love to study there when back on weekends from NIU and swear by their Italian panini, so I'll pass that suggestion on as well. They also LOVE the Fall time drink specials, so hurray for Fall rolling around again soon! I am not a huge coffee drinker but my wife is so I hit a lot of coffee shops with her. Every once in a while I will have a coffee but I normally get a smoothie or hot chocolate. Today being cooler, I ordered an Aztec version of their hot chocolate. It was outstanding and made me love those Aztecs. This hot chocolate was spicy with cinnamon and topped off with whipped cream, paired with a pumpkin muffin it made for one he-man type fall breakfast. Only this he-man couldn't even finish the hugeness that is a medium. I feel my title as big eater is in jeopardy but next time, I will order a small. Ordering their hot chocolate? He man score. Eh. here's the deal, I wrote a crap review of this place a while ago, and wound up deleting it feeling like an ass for swinging in only once and grabbing some espresso. Let's face it, ninety percent of 'barista' don't know how to properly pull a shot of espresso... A decent instant check for quality? Check for "bottomless" baskets in the portafilters. These baskets create a harder job for the barista by exposing any issues in the brew cycle, making consequentially easier to get better drinks from bars that use them. Ahem. Batch brewed coffee made on a fetco automatic brewer. So, assuming the beans weren't hyper over roasted the drink should essentially be free of detractors. The fetco is an amazing brew system which is infinitely modifiable and can make some damn tasty coffee. This was a pretty poorly made cup of coffee. My main issues were the flavor, body, and dryness of the drink. Drying coffees. Simply put, you can grind a bean a bit more coarse and avoid this aspect. Nothing to dramatic, a half bump on any commercial grinder is usually enough to get rid of this problem. The body was quite thin, almost watery. Fetco (assuming it's the same model as the one I use) has four independent brewing parameters which can be set within the machine and are completely controllable. If the preinfusion was kicked back, the body would thicken up a bit and we'd almost be in business... And of course the flavor. Flavors in coffee are dictated by a great number of things, most relevant of all is the ratio of ground coffee to the water used for brewing. Generally speaking americans prefer something in the realms of 50-70g(Coffee)/1000g(water). I'm almost certain that with how weak the coffee was, and how thin the body was the dose was very low. Using some amount more coffee relative to the brew water would generate a sweeter, more acidic, less bitter cup of coffee with a nice full body to it. That said, I didn't hover around long enough to check the beans out. That said, I was a pompous ass the first time around and I stand by my initial decision to be so. Honestly, the adorable cashier who took care of me gave them an extra star. Keep on hiring attractive people, and you'll be OK kid. read more

I ordered a Caffe latte. In a few minutes it was ready (several orders were placed before mine); the froth was even, indicating the milk was fresh and well-frothed. The taste was quite smooth, not burnt; so i jaunted down to Smallcakes Cupcakery a block-or-two down the street for the Caramel Corn Chip cupcake Oh my, what a combo! The Caramel corn chip is only available on Mondays..but i digress... I saw on the outside glass windows that this coffeehouse establishment was voted best coffee shop in Kane county; the atmosphere was also nice....not too hipster (pretentious) but classy in a casual, almost everyday kind-of-way. I liked the bar in an almost horseshoe shape where people were sitting, talking, or doodling on laptops/smart phones, with large coffee bean grinder in the middle of this bar-style area. Arcedium is my sanctuary, my haven, a place I go to for a little comfort. The mornings where I need a pick-me-up or a nice special coffee drink to celebrate after a particular grueling boot camp morning, Arcedium greets me with a warm coffee smile. I've visited quite a few times and I find the staff laid back, very friendly and helpful. Since it's not a chain with green trim, I'm not familiar with some of their coffee concoctions (they have a quite a menu of drinks) but they've been very helpful when I find myself asking lots of questions. It's a nice space, lots of windows and small table seating. There's a separate meeting room where I've seen folks having business or some sort of neighborhood committee meeting. I like the bar surrounding the barista, where you can watch all the coffee-making action. WiFi is available and there are nice sunny spots for reading. I've enjoyed all the drinks I've had there. It's usually a iced latte or fruity lemonade iced tea. Well made and with great flavor. But my new favorite are the Arctics--blended ice coffee drinks that are so refreshing. I haven't tried any of their pastries or lunches, but they look appealing as well. read more

A gem right off from the river with more seating and workrooms than your house, there's nothing but relaxtion at coffee houses like these. Sometimes when you're french press fails you, it's blustery out and all you want to do is curl up and sip a warm beverage, well then this is the place for you. The coffee (seasonal flavors galore), pastries and soups/sammies selections are pretty far and wide so you know you are more than welcome to sticking around longer than it takes to down your chai tea latte. After god knows how I got lost and wound up in St. Charles, I somehow, and very luckily found Arcedium to snag a warm cup of coffee. Taking a browse around before the order was up, this is a perfect setting for "working from home" with tons of tables and chairs, a mini conference room for larger groups and a plush seating area towards the back. Though this is a prime coffee house for sitting in, I took advantage of the paper cup and walked along the river taking in the views and a perfect Autumn afternoon. I am a BIG fan of Arcedium! It is THE place to go for coffee. I promise. The coffee here is to die for. I crave it just thinking about it. I don't even live in the Fox Valley area, and I drive all the way out here for coffee. It is the bee's knees, if you will pardon my dorky expression. The menu has a diverse assortment of offerings, from staples, to seasonal drinks, to delicious roasts from all over the world. They have non-dairy milk alternatives for lactose-intolerant/vegan folks such as myself. The prices aren't any worse than other coffee houses. They offer pastries and the like for nibbling on, though I've never tried any of them. The shop is modernly classic, neat, clean, friendly, and well-lighted. It's got mellow music and lots of windows, plenty of seating, and a gorgeous coffee bar to-boot! It's the perfect place to get some work done, meet up with friends or family, and not feel crowded or eavesdropped on while doing so. It's never too noisy and the staff is working constantly to keep the place clean, well serviced, and running smoothly. The staff is patient, friendly, and accommodating. The drinks come piping hot and beautifully presented, and you never have to wait too long. The sizes are not minuscule and don't leave you feeling like you need a second cup to get your money's worth. I love going to Arcedium. The coffee is definitely, hands down, some of the best in the area. However, with great quality one must turn up with great patience. Not the quick turn and burn we've come accustomed to at some of the national chains BUT you know that your coffee is made with the craftsmanship and respect that a great cup of joe requires when you buy it from Arcedium. I would say that the three things that keep me from giving Arcedium 5 stars are the speed of service, very limited number of outdoor seating, and the lack of changing tables in the bathrooms (men and women). I can see myself enjoying spending time at this coffee house, however, but needing to improvise if I'm visiting with my young child. read more

They have an amazing coffee selection and the coffee tasted pretty good, I just got a drip. I ordered a Nutella and banana sandwich and it was very disappointing especially for the price. Where was Arcedium when I lived in St Charles?! This is the kind of coffeehouse I always wanted... Perched near the Fox River with big comfy chairs, plenty of tables and a bar, beautiful woodwork and lots of light, Arcedium is a lovely space to walk into. It's also got some great coffee. I could smell the love from the roaster as we walked in, and enjoyed my cinnamon creme latte (iced) with great relish. Even though it was pretty sweet, I could still taste the great espresso underneath it. The menu of drinks is impressive; they also have pastries, soup, salads, and sandwiches. I don't get to the Fox Valley very often anymore, but I would love to return to Arcedium for another delightful drink. read more

I thought it was cool. I've never seen a coffee shop with a bar before. Well, at least not such a long, curved bar. The layout was unique. If you are into coffee you will probably appreciate the view of the roaster. I got tea and a macaroon (the coconut kind). They serve Tiesta tea which seems to be a very hearty type of tea. There were real goji berries in my tea bag. Like I said, it was cool. The macaroon also exceeded expectations. Texturally very pleasing. It's nice to walk along the Fox River there. There was a mother goose sitting on her eggs or pregnant or something and there were signs on roadblocks warning walkers that she might get aggressive. This has nothing to do with Arcedium, but does tell you a little of the surrounding environment. If you like some nature with your coffee, this may be your coffeehouse! read more

For me coffee houses are like Thai restaurants I see one I got to try it, but being nestled a bit off of the main downtown St Charles business I never saw it but heard about it from my brother-in-law so I like the coffee house junkie I am I found and am very glad I did. The fact they have free Wi-Fi is a must as I'm also an Internet addict. But a good cup of coffee is the primary reason and Arcedium satisfies that as well. I've only had straight coffee none of the latte, mocha stuff but enjoy all of cups thus far. They have a house blend that is my usual but I like trying the other various roast and need to record them because it be helpful to remember those great roasts Their is a limited food menu, and I've only had the ham/cheddar panini and found it quite tasty. A display cabinet of bakery treats constantly calls my name but thus far I've avoided the temptation but they too have a tasty call when they are calling A couple of reviews have stated less then ideal service but that has not been the case with me and I'm one impatient dude because waiting means I'm missing Internet time. There have been a few times I had to wait in line but where does one go and not sometimes have a line, even a Dentist has a waiting line and how much fun are we waiting for there. The atmosphere or as my big word wife would say ambiance is nice and comfortable plenty of outlets to keep the Interconnection machine charged. They have great coffee and great food here. I love this placed and I thing its amazing coffee shop. But the staff is rude and awful to people who are looking to study and work. One staff member brought our table water and then instantaneously went to another worker and said that we were free-loaders who needed to leave. My family and I felt judged and felt as though we couldn't enjoy the environment. I would never come back here even if the coffee is good. I have work friends who work 'remotely' from this coffee house several times a week, so i've joined them a few times for lunch and work in the afternoon. their lunch options are not too many, but they are good for a small coffee house. their drinks are delicious, the servers are very friendly and the patrons are as well. love that there's a private room in the back so you can hide out in there and not disturb others if you have to take a call. there are plenty of other seats at the bar as well as around it. great gem in the STC read more
