We come to MDI about every 3 to 5 years. This was the first time we stumbled across Archie's, it recently opened, and we love their outdoor setup along the ocean. When coming to this area you have a lot of lobster places to choose from. This one stands out with it's picnic style setup along with some magnificent ocean views. The typical lobster meal came with corn, bread, potato salad and your choice of size of lobster (price varies per market $$$). In general, it was around $20-$35 per meal based upon lobster weight. We stopped by Archie's during the shoulder season in early September. It was mid afternoon and there were few customers at the unusual time we stopped, but it was clear based on seating they get quite a crowd! The location is right on the water and it gives off a vibe that is laid back and suiting for a lobster pound. I ordered a lobster roll with butter and a side of fries. A bag of chips was also included. The cost for the lobster roll is rather steep and naked vs butter vs mayo pricing doesn't seem to make sense given the minimal cost per roll, but there was a generous amount of lobster for the size of the roll. The flavor was fairly mild, but it was clear it was fresh. The claws were of course a touch sweeter and packed more flavor. Overall, if you enjoy a lobster roll I recommend Archie's. read more

Gem found by accident. Like we were Family !!! Drove down to another Lobster place (that was CLOSED) and found this Gem. Super nice family run Lobster Pound - with Picnic tables outside on Bass Harbor. So laid back and glad we found. The staff was awesome and very attentive. SHOUT OUT TO Kacey. We were told this is the best lobster roll around and it did not disappoint. We got here before it opened because we were hungry but it started to get busy pretty quick. They have a lot of seating though so likely not a big issues when it's busy. Beautiful views of the water while you enjoy your lobster roll. As a midwesterner it did stand out to me that Archie's offered different style of lobster roll so you can have it how you liked we like hot butter lobster roll so we stuck with that. Stopped for dinner before heading to the lighthouse for the sunset. Got the fish n chips, lobster bisque and onion rings. Fish n chips were very good, with a larger serving of French fries. They don't make their own tartar sauce. Lobster bisque was some of the best I have ever had and came out scalding hot, which is a big plus in my book. Fantastic food. We had two hot Lobster rolls and a cold with Mayo, clam chowder and onion rings. Everything was superb. Crispy onion rings (the slivered kind which I like best). Clam chowder was great with tons of clams and a good amount of potatoes. The lobster rolls were gigantic. The biggest I have ever had and the same price as pretty much anyone else on the island this summer ($30). Great local beers offered (Lone Pine). I was happy to return after a delicious meal in 2021. The outdoor seating is lovely and we were able to bring our puppy. This year I got a hot buttered lobster roll packed with lobster and a side of corn. The corn was dried out, but it was only a half hour until closing so I guess that is why. I didn't protest because I was pretty full from the lobster anyways. Lobster was fresh and delicious! View is so pretty. Very friendly staff. So many good things about this place, but I'll start with the staff -- really nice and super helpful. Fish and chips were very good; slaw was excellent, and the blueberry pie was the best we've had on this trip. Great location at the top of Bass Harbor with a view of the harbor going out to the sea and they've done a nice job sprucing up a quasi-industrial location. From the old photos at the order desk (don't forget to look down) it seems like the site used to be a sardine cannery; now they've put out a variety of seating options, -- picnic tables, outdoor dining sets, and a sofa and chairs on an outdoor rug. Lobster traps help shape the space, there's corn hole, and a mural of lupins on the side of one of the buildings. They've got a sheltered set up in case of rain; hope they can add heaters at some point for when it's chilly out. read more

The seafood at Archie's Lobster in Bass Harbor is delicious and comes out fast. I had steamers one time, that were very clean. The other two times I had a lobster roll! Both were so full of meat that I used a fork first! One friend had the quesadillas that were great and another had a crabmeat roll that was also full of crabmeat! There are no negatives.... great service, smiling and friendly staff, delicious food and wonderful atmosphere, on the "quietside" of MDI. 10 stars out of 10! I went here because of a Reddit post saying that this is where locals eat lobster around Bar Harbor. I was not disappointed. I am not sure where the fault lies, so I am giving a one start to both Yelp and Archie's. We visited Maine this last weekend and decided to drive from Bar Harbor to Archie's based on the reviews AND that Yelp showed it was open. We drove the the 20+ minutes only to find out they are closed temporarily. I am fine with it being closed for the season, but someone needs to be sure the data on Yelp is kept current so time isn't wasted on a drive for a place that is closed. You really had to search the internet to find that it was closed. Disappointed in both Yelp and Archie's. read more
