    Grilled lobster sandwich

Freshest lobster ever in NE and its partial open concept dining area. Feel so close to the seaside. Food was amazing. And it's also BYOB. Service was slightly lacking and it wasn't even crowded on a Sunday noon.

I am so disappointed with my favorite lobster place Perry's Lobster Co. They had NO lobsters at lunchtime today. The service was slow. I opted for a surf & turf sandwich $35 ; it was awful. The lobster was not fresh. The cooking oil tasted old. The beef was not seasoned well. The place is under new ownership. I have been going there for over 10 years. So disappointing!

The Lobster Shack is a small, BYOB, lobster shack, on a wharf in Surry, Maine. It has no land food. This is a traditional Lobster Shack, like those you will find throughout most of the small inlets and peninsulas, along the coast of Maine. The atmosphere is great. All seating is outside at picnic styles bench and tables. Seating is on a long wharf jutting out into Blue Hill Bay. Together with the salt air, and views of Cadillac Mountain in the background, the aesthetic is sublime. I am not a fan of seafood, but my wife and family are, so I will rate the food based on their descriptions. Food receives thumbs up. The lobster is steamed just right. Corn is tender. Rolls are typical white, soft rolls found in New England. Steamers are good, and receive praise from my family. For those who only eat land food, bring food to bbq, they have a grill for you to use. There is locally made soda to drink, and if you need an alcoholic beverage, BYOB. Dessert is good. Ice cream from Morton's Moo and pie at times. Service is good. Servers are attentive in this casual atmosphere. We have been frequenting this location for years, and always come back. Although I don't eat seafood, I always eat the corn and rolls, with whatever meat dish I brought. This is a great place, and really, the prices and servings are no different than any other lobster shack and pound within the state. For the lobster lover, looking for a splendid location, this place is for you.

We were staying down the road in a B & B and decided to go here for lunch. We arrived at 1:30 thinking the lunch crowd would be gone. Wrong! We had to wait for a table. However, the wait was well worth it as the lobster dinner I ordered was outstanding. If you like lobster you will love the lobster here. Order the lobster/clams special. Comes with slaw, corn on the cob, roll and melted butter for $22.00. Be prepared as they accept cash or check only. I also ordered a Blueberry soda and I was in heaven. If you are out on the Neck this is a must stop.

Fantastic. 5 stars for lobster and 5 stars for fantastic setting. Very low key place off the beaten path. Find a way to go and you won't be disappointed. We went last week and I can't wait to go back

The Lobster Shack known as Perry's to the locals was outstanding! The view was beautiful! We all had lobsters and it was great! The two ladies working on that rainy event my could not have been more friendly! Very sweet! I would love to go back there some day!

Best lobster in the area, with one of the best views you can get! Definitely don't skip the lobster roll and a walk on Carrying Place Beach afterwards.

Sweet Baby Jesus. If…read moreyou're the sort of person who requires cloth napkins, tasteful lighting and a waiter named Chad who explains the provenance of every pea on your plate, don't go here. But if you want honest food at today's prices, pull up a chair. The lobster roll was a revelation. Not that mayonnaise-based lobster purée somebody scraped out of a tub and smeared onto a bun that had been sitting around since the Carter administration. This was real chunks of lobster, lightly seasoned, piled onto a fresh roll and left alone to taste like lobster. Then came the steamers. Sweet mercy. Those steamers were the best thing I have tasted since 1974, and I'm not entirely sure what happened in 1974, but apparently somebody knew how to steam a clam. The service was excellent--friendly, attentive and without the usual modern-day restaurant ritual of wondering whether your server has forgotten you exist. The décor? Let's just say aging fish camp chic. If you're looking for polished brass and a chandelier imported from France, keep driving. If you want the feeling that somebody might walk in carrying a cooler full of flounder, you're home. For the love of all that is holy, give this place a try. Come hungry. Leave happy. And if you encounter a cloth napkin, somebody has probably made a terrible mistake

The employees were fun and they made the experience nicer. The next day it was time for lunch and my husband said lets go back to the Traveling Lobster, I said (and later regretted) no let's try somewhere else. We tried a place with a catchy lobster name and the teenage boy, behind the counter of the takeout as he handed us our change said, you're leaving me a tip - right? In unison we both said no. I added we don't tip workers at McDonalds, we're not tipping you and even if we did, we wouldn't tip you because of your demand, he walked away nonplussed, to add insult to injury the food was mediocre for the price. Later that afternoon we tried another lobster stand, and it was worse; the food was terrible for the price, we ordered a side of lobster mac and cheese and there was not a shred of lobster in it, we ended up taking it back and getting our money. Starving, we went back to the Traveling Lobster and had another great meal, listened to trivia and left satisfied. What we learned is if a stand isn't busy or has few cars, don't bother, there's a reason. By all means go the Travelin Lobster, the parking lot is busy, the line moves fast and the food comes out fast and excellent, the employees don't attempt to shame you into tipping them and when you order lobster mac and cheese, you get plenty of lobster. I also learned that my sweet husband is sometimes right :).

If you like a relatively minimalist lobster roll like we do, it's pretty perfect, with just a little mayo, enough salt to give the meat a bit of flavor, and a generous portion of perfectly cooked meat. The onion rings are my platonic ideal -- thinly cut and just a little crunchy batter. The fried pickles were surprisingly good too, again not overly battered and the pickle slices are not at all mushy. The house lemonade is great as well, and the chocolate soft serve was some of the best I've ever had. Lots of seating outside but in a rarity for the area there is a decent amount of booth seating in the cute inside as well. Would happily eat here every day if I could and would still love to try the crab roll!
