We had the saffron shrimp for appetizer( little spicy)and the Bulgarian feta pizza Detroit style( the crust was to die for). My son never had chicken and waffles and Archie's certainly made an impression. We shared the sesame chicken wings as a starter and they were delicious. The double IPA was exactly what I wanted. The buttermilk chicken and waffles with slices of apple and pear on the side on a bed of radicchio was scrumptious. I ordered the crab mac and cheese and yes it was spot on. Such a neat little place along this street! The furnishings make the place extra welcoming, the staff is attentive and genuine, and the food was simple and delicious. Visited Archie's yesterday with a couple of my friends. The decor was nice and on the small side. Had a decent selection of beers. Wasn't very busy. The menu was limited for a tap house. The only hamburger was a special and they were out. So I then ordered another special. It about 30-40 minutes to get our meals. Actually people who came in after us were served before us. My meal had an off taste and didn't sit well with me all day. Not sure if I would visit again. read more

I've been to Archie's several times, and they never disappoint. On my most recent visit, I had their special baby clams in red coconut curry sauce. As clams should be, they were tender, sweet, succulent morsels of heaven. Now set that aside, because the red coconut curry sauce brought things so far beyond my expectations. Seriously, they can make a full soup with that amazing sauce. I woke up today still thinking about it. For my entree, I had the Archie burger with cheddar and fries. Always juicy and made perfectly. My husband had the crab Mac and cheese which was amazing. I live on City Island, and I really don't care to eat at any of the establishments here because there's just too much hype put into broiled and fried seafood. Archie's has saved me from settling for less. They always have great beer on tap and amazing specials. I'm just going to leave this here: We need more red coconut curry sauce on the menu. I went with my friend here on a Friday night. This place is so delicious. The crab Mac and cheese and the Pizza were incredible! Both were enough for two people! They have wine/beers. Maintained social distance and was clean. The star of the visit was Julian, he was so amazing. Personable, friendly, knowledgeable, patient, funny. He made the visit for me and my friend so worth it! We have been coming to Archie's for several years now (Since it was known as Sugar & Spice) and this place never disappoints. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu including his fresh, organic, seasonal salads, seafood ( crab and shrimp) and meats. The chef has a regular menu but what I absolutely love are his specials which always amaze me. He recently had a Dominican lasagna (patacon) added which was absolutely delicious. Like most of the other reviewers stated, this place did not disappoint. Small location, but the atmosphere is cozy. The food was delicious! The chicken and waffles is a must, and the Huevos rancheros has a nice piece of hanger steak. They don't have alcohol, but they do have a nice selection of wine and beer. Had a late lunch here with two friends after a visit to Untermeyer Garden in Yonkers. We didn't realize that they close from 3pm - 5pm on Saturdays; we got there around 2:30pm and they kindly accommodated us. We were warmly greeted by Carmela who patiently answered our questions about the menu and made excellent recommendations on beers and meals. She and Candria (I hope I remembered her name correctly) were so nice and engaging and made us feel very welcome. Even their boss (Alex?) came out to welcome us and we discovered that we lived in his former neighborhood in Queens. The soft shell crab special was delicious as was the salmon BLT wrap and the huevos rancheros. Next time will definitely try the pizza! Very good food and great, friendly service! read more

We stumbled upon this little gem, unexpectedly. Disclaimer, we have only dined in for brunch every time. Their staff is super friendly: they really remember you and it makes us feel welcome; they take the time to answer any questions about the menu or anything in general - you know, they have human conversations with you which makes us feel good about spending our money there. The restaurant is fairly narrow but deep with ample indoor seating, in addition to a few outdoor tables to enjoy on a warm day. They have a bar with pretty good beers, too. While the food can be a little pricey, it is damn good. It's always fresh and the flavors are always balanced. We love the fired shishito peppers that come with lemon and a bomb dipping sauce. My boyfriend loves their Huevos Rancheros and I am a slave to their chicken and waffles! (Huge portions, FYI) They fry to a perfection. I'm not only talking about texture here; I'm talking about flavor. Their waffles are lightly crispy with a soft, pillowy inside, and that savory sweet bite of chicken and waffle together is worth every damn calorie. Also, try their fries!! Hands down best food on city island. Chef Alex is truly a chef de cuisine, having honed his skills in some of the best places in the city. He takes seriously his concept: elevating your favorites up to a new level (or few), as such the small but varied menu is unassuming and easily approachable, but utterly delicious from top to bottom. Daily special abound with line caught fish and anything else that is fresh, seasonal, and whimsical. City island as a whole can cost you a chunk of change, but with the money you are dropping you have a choice: Go to the majority of other spots on the island and pay top dollar for a few pounds of rushed out and otherwise neglected sustenance. OR Come here and get a masterfully pampered and prepared meal served to you without any pretense. Food this good would cost double in the city, you will not leave disappointed. My boyfriend and I used to come here every Sunday rain or shine. Not anymore. Wacky hours, always closed on big ticket holidays. Prices are a bit astronomical for basic food. The wine prices are even more absurd (my boyfriend owns 2 wine stores let's be serious). Inconsistent service, sometimes the food was great sometimes it was a joke. I give it 3 stars because they have a Zumex for fresh OJ so the mimosas are always delicious. I will always support small business' but not when loyal customers are not appreciated. read more
