That's how I first learned about @brickandbasil in Yantic. I visited several months ago, but forgot to post my review. There was a bit of a hiccup when I visited. I drove about 40 minutes to get there, and when I arrived, I learned that they were closed for their first ever private Baby Shower party. I was crushed. But this story has a rated PG Happy Ending. I called the restaurant and spoke to Amy. I explained that I had driven a ways and asked if they could make me a pizza to go. They didn't take long to tell me that they would make me the first pizza of the day before the shower got into Full Swing. I was grateful for their hospitality, and terrific wood-fired pizza. I was inside briefly. They have plenty of seating and a bar that with decor suggesting a love of music. I ordered the Mama Mia and ate a couple slices outside. It had sliced meatball, roasted red pepper, mozzarella and ricotta on a good chewy Wood Fired Crust. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. The red sauce had bright flavor. The ricotta was creamy and fluffy. Brick and Basil is well respected in pizza circles, and I can see why. It started as a food truck. But a food truck that starts with the word Brick, was bound to have a Brick and Mortar. And we're lucky they do. 5 Stars

While we waited for food, we were captivated by the ambiance and decor! Completely surrounded by windows and ropes! We felt like we were on a sailboat! Wow! The bar was very lively. The food was fantastic! I had a signature burger that was perhaps one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. Cooked to perfection!!! And the sweet potato fries were wonderful! And this is just the beginning of this positive review. We were one of the last tables to leave, close to closing. We drove 30 min to drop off our son, when his girlfriend discovered she had left her purse behind. We called the number on our receipt, with no hope of an answer or response. After a couple tries, a manager answered, and offered to have someone WAIT at the restaurant another 30 min. so she could return and retrieve her purse. WOW!!! It was so over-the-top kind and generous! So thankful for people who care!!!

The batter coating was very thick so maybe that was the reason, too long in the fryer. However, the coating was very tasty and not oily at all. We also had the chicken wings with special sweet/ spicy sauce - excellent! If this is your first visit to Norwich and the restaurant use your GPS! The town streets were one way and difficult to navigate on a rainy night. Will definitely visit again. Did I mention the beer was delicious

Some of the best places I've ever eaten at a where greasy spoon hole in the wall. Exception: Resteraunts must not realize what a bad impression it makes when they don't regularly clean the glass doors, windows or bathrooms. It makes a big difference to me & it's easier to trust what is coming out of the kitchen when you arent afraid to touch the menu or bathroom handle because you can see evidence of the millions of other people that have touched the doors before you. ( This waa the case here, but, I overlooked this for the sake of the review) The bar was to the immediate left as you walked in, but you were seperated from it by beams. If you contunued to walk straight, you would walk down a hallway & the restauraunt seating would be to your left, also seperated by beams & half walls. Most of the people who walked in were just picking up & 5:30 there were only 2 tables in the main dining area & 1 person seated at the bar. I sat ar the bar & ordered the ruben w/ onion rings. The Ruben was surprisingly tasty ( i didnt have high hopes), but the swiss was really cheap & had the same consistency of imitation American processed cheese food. The onion rings were greasy & I didn't actually see or taste onion inside, but I do believe they would be passable for most. I could only eat a few & got a stomach ache from the grease, that continued to repeat & disturb me well past 11pm. Overall not the worst meal I've eaten, but definately not the best. I would pass.

We also split the potato wedges and some Caesar salad, and everything we ate was just wonderful. Loved the vibe sitting here with the games on the screens, and the waitress was super nice. The reason I'm giving 4 stars is that I ordered a lemon drop martini and it was the worst martini I've ever had in my entire existence. You'd think having a full bar here they would be able to make one, but I should have known the moment the drink arrived in a wine glass. It tasted like lemon flavored lighter fluid. I was paying $15 for it so I drank it, but I was filled with regret later. So don't get a martini here ever.

It is self seating when you walk in. Mostly high top tables, booths only sat two people. There's televisions on with all the sports so it's very entertaining and busy all the time. They also serve other items that looked great going out to other tables.
