Get ready for a cluckin' good time that will leave you craving more! - **Just as a disclaimer, I was invited to media day for the opening of this restaurant, so I acknowledge that my experience may vary from others since the opening. I had not visited the other Haven Hot Chicken restaurants in CT, but I am a big fan of Nashville style hot chicken and am glad it is getting more traction in the New England collegiate scene. The opening was used as a training for the employees and from what I saw, the staff was courteous and friendly. I had the sandwich in medium, a single tendie in haven, and a banana pudding (my favorite). Hot tip: they actually have two additional spice levels called "off menu" and "double off menu," but eat at your own risk. We witnessed two brave people trying it, and they had to briefly step out of the restaurant and chug boxed waters. Regular flavors are country (no heat), mild, medium, hot, and haven. They also have cauliflower nuggets and fuego fries (great that there are vegetarian options available too). read more

We brought our son to UConn for a tour and decided to check out this place. I have been wanting to try it for a while. It was great, definitely HOT! The medium was nice, the Hot was HOT! Add the honey and some extra sauce and perfect. The only thing I would like is to have cheese available. read more

A little bit of a lot of overpriced for noms per dollar. Got the THE sandwich and chicken+biscuits. Service was friendly, probably the highpoint and 1 of the 2 stars. Quick, crisp, drama free. The floors were STICKY. If you're wearing slippers or slides or crocs, be prepared to show those piggies... my shoes came off it was so sticky. I recommend toddler shoes, with the laces, velcro strap, and maybe even soccer lace covers for maximum security. Banks should employ this approach, no thief would ever run out in time. The food, however, didn't knock me out of my socks, even with the floor assist. Chicken was completely fine. Fries were completely fine. Waffles were completely fine. But thats it. I didnt finish half my meal, neither did anyone else in our party. Medium spicy got my dome piece tingling, but no sweat. I suspect anything above that would cause significant gastrointestinal malfeasance. It does have potential. The shake (paprika or tumeric or some red spice that could have had a cinnamon challenge) detracts from the food. If you inhale it the wrong way, you will be coughing. And there's no escape if you ask for it, its on both fries and chicken. I would like to try both without the skake to see if quality improves. This would be significantly below either KFC or Popeyes, imo, and on par with big chain instachicken at like Stop n Shop. And for the price, I'll go stick to someone else's floor. We are looking at trying out Raisin Kane or whatever spelling they went with. Might try again, knowing what we know now. The other star is because others have highly recommmended this, so maybe I'm just completely off. read more

Food is good. I had a tender with no heat. My husband had whatever the next level was-chicken waffle with fries-he really liked all of it. Our son had the middle level heat...it just looked super spicy. He likes heat but could only finish one tender. At least now we know what heat level is best for us. Nice mural of UConn on the wall. The young lady working the register was very friendly and patient with us ordering. Even though we liked it, the prices are way too expensive even considering the high level inflation we are still in. For that reason, it probably would not be my top few choice of restaurants while in downtown Storrs. read more

I've had positive experiences here in the past--the food was good, and the menu had a fun "roulette" option, which let you sample all the flavors and guess the heat levels. Unfortunately, on my latest visit, I learned that this option is no longer available, even though they still have all the individual flavors. When I asked if they could make an exception, I was told I'd need to speak with a manager. The manager came out but was even less accommodating, which was disappointing. I'm giving one star back since past visits were good, but this experience left a lot to be desired. Hopefully a bad night. read more

Enjoyed the food overall. They were slammed with orders but methodically worked through it. The Sandwich was still crispy even after getting back to where I was going to enjoy it. I choose to do the "Hot - will burn" level and it was right on the cusp of my tolerance. It was a little messy but really delicious. Fries were a bit soggy after sitting but adding the spice shake to it was a good decision. The Mac and cheese was thick and creamy but the portion was a bit small for $7+tax. The combo (included a can of soda) with the addition of Mac and cheese was $30 out the door. I had a 50%off with DD so I thought I'd give it a try. Staff was super friendly. read more

HAVEN HOT CHICKEN IN STORRS CT SERVES CONTAMINATED FOOD. Yelp needs a Zero stars option. Our take-out food was in open boxes with sweating soda cans and dirty-bottomed dessert cups smashed on top of the exposed chicken, cauliflower, etc., lids folded inside the boxes, next to and under the food instead of covering it. The night manager said the OWNERS told them to pack all food like that. "In open boxes? With the sodas and desserts piled on top?!?" "Yes ma'am, just like that. So if you have a problem you can contact the owners." Bullshite, unless the owners have lost their minds and changed the rules within 3 days to get shut down for health violations. Which is what's about to happen. Used to be so good, this is so sad, but so serious - diners sicken and die from contaminated food. read more

I went in Friday to give Haven Hot Chicken a second chance and it was definitely a better experience. The quality had very much improved from my first visit. I got The Sandwich, mild, with a fountain drink and the banana pudding. The pudding was excellent, the sandwich delicious, and I was very happy to be able to have a fountain drink instead of a can. I certainly would love to try more options from Haven but, I still have an issue with the price. The taste was much improved, but in a college town like Storrs, it's hard to justify the cost. read more

This is a new fried chicken restaurant near the UConn campus. The food is excellent, fresh, friendly service, reasonably fast. Food - Was very good about the time it opened. But it quickly started to change sauces and they began to have odd after tastes and the Rob sauce aint the same anymore. Spice - I love spice, but that medium is not medium. Based on my 5 or so experiences, the spice level is alway heavy handed and i just cannot finish the food. The fuego fries seem to not be as spicy. Cleanliness - overall fine. Service - pretty much everything else is fine but service. I have yet to have an issue directly with the server at the front, but i can sometimes overhear some rather concerning conversations coming from what Id assume to management. I watched, on more than on occasion with different female servers at the front, get reprimanded by management staff in front of customers. Not only was that uncomfortable, the way the female manager (im assuming they were a manager, a lady approximately in her 30s) was using wuite condescending and rather passive aggressive langauge. I understand the need to make sure people are doing their job, but she simply did not have to speak like that. Overall, it started well, but the food seems to have changed for the worst. I cannot eat here anymore because it doesnt taste the same, or I cannot handle the spice. Also dont berrate employees in front of customers. I have managed before, its very unprofessional. read more

Food wise, Haven Hot Chicken reminds me very much of Canes or other chicken chains. Small menu, standard food across the board. However, the service at this location was terrible. Fast food is supposed to be fast. Genuinely waited 30 minutes for a chicken sandwich and fries with no line in front of us. Another note to mention is that when the food is ready, the worker would call out the name quietly and one single time. Those sitting at tables further from the counter didn't even hear their orders being called. Overall, my experience was nothing special. Not sure if i would go back. read more

Our family just had the most disgusting thing happen to us. We ordered Cauliflower Bites, two orders of Tendies Trio, 2 cans of Coke and 1 can of Sprite. When we returned home with the food; the sodas were sitting on top of the FOOD!! Thereby contaminating the food. The two Banana Puddings were sitting on top of the Cauliflower Bites, contaminating the Bites. The cans of soda and the cups of pudding has god knows what kind of germs on them. The MANAGER said that the OWNER wants the staff to pack the food that way! REALLY!!! I think the CT HEALTH DEPARTMENT might think differently!! THEN; because the food was ordered online; we were told that there was no way to be reimbursed!! THERE WAS NO WAY ON EARTH THAT WE WERE GOING TO EAT NASTY CONTAMINATED FOOD!!!!!
