Love this place ! Great arepas and great service. The jugo de papelon and the coffee is my favorite thing there ! The arepa pabellón is my go to. The ladies there are so nice !
a cool neighborhood spot to go for authentic venezuelan food not that I would know what that is. got the mini platter which was fun and arepa pabellon which had more shredded beef than i thought possible to fit in an arepa. taste was solid and service was great. definitely a filling meal.
Food: solid 8/10 Service: 8/10 My only reason for the 3 star review is because this establishment charges gratuity without informing the person. There is clearly a tip option at the bottom so I ended up paying double tip. It is common practice for the restaurant to inform the consumer when they do this. Please consider letting your customers know.
We had an arepa and their special. So good! They had a habanero based spicy sauce and an avocado sauce that made the food taste infinitely better. We came near closing and were able to order quickly and eat before they closed. Staff were great and a great plus is that they have customer bathroom!
A popular local spot for arepas! The staff were very nice and friendly, they gave us a great recommendation for their tres leches cake and it was so delicious! I got the shrimp arepas and definitely a favorite of mine! The flavor had a tomato base and sweet but not dessert sweet like the good tasting sweet. I would definitely come back and there was a soccer game on that the staff were rooting for and I appreciated the energy! It's a great place for eating, hanging out with friends, and even watching TV!
Simply put, one of the best arepas I've ever had. Venezuelan arepas are so different than Columbian arepas and I appreciate it so very much. Arepas Cafe is small but mighty. Their assortment of arepas is almost overwhelming. Do you go carne or pernil? What about pollo? Wait and theres a holiday specials? I'm a sucker for a special and I almost got what they were featuring but the gentleman that helped us was honest and said they were out of their chicken salad and that the special isn't complete with out it. I appreciated his honesty and with Mami de carne. I was not disappointed in the slightest. We also ordered yuca fries and boy was I blown away. The cilantro sauce and mango salsa should be bottled and sold separately cause I would put it on everything. Back to the arepa though, the carne was so delicious I am so sad I don't have it right now. Same goes for that passion fruit juice. Ugh, I'll be dreaming of this meal for a while. Service was superb and I loved how lively it was at lunch on a Friday. Also to note, because you know I will shout out a great bathroom when I can, the bathroom was small and clean with uplifting messages on written with sharpies on the wall. Put a smile on my face that people chose positive messages rather than raunchy ones. Will definitely repeat visit a bunch. Also walking distance to Tea and Milk which is a HUGE win.
Was in last weekend visiting my sister. Did not make reservations and just walked in. Very small Location so would call ahead of traveling 20-30 minutes to see how long wait is. Great service, food was flavorful, pricing reasonable, and nice portion size! Can't wait to come back and visit again when I'm back in town
One of my friends had been hyping up this cozy Venezuelan spot in Astoria as having some of the best arepas around. He wasn't wrong - my arepa with pernil was huge and really good, especially with the extra sauces at the table! They have really tasty sangrias too! The service was also good and they were able to take a last minute seating for our group.
Ordered: Passion Fruit Sangria Pitcher (~$36): with white wine Mini Platter (~$19): 3 tequeños, 3 mini cachapas, 3 mini empanadas, 4 yuca fries Arepa Pabellon (~$15): shredded beef, black beans, grated white cheese, and fried sweet plantains Arepa Pabellon de Pollo (~$15): shredded chicken, black beans, grated white cheese, and fried sweet plantains Aya's take: I've been to Arepas Cafe once before but it was their other (now closed) location on Broadway. Glad this one is still around! We started off with the Passion Fruit Sangria Pitcher which was light, fruity, and refreshing. The Pitcher makes about 4 glasses, so it's great for sharing! The Mini Platter is the perfect appetizer to start with as you get to try a bunch of their appetizers. I'm a big fan of the cachapas; these were a bit greasy and tasted like meat or whatever was on the grill before they made these. The empanadas and yuca fries were also delicious and went well with both sauces. The pink sauce was like a ketchup & mayo blend while the white one is nata aka a Venezulan sour cream. It's more buttery and soft than a typical sour cream. The Arepas are huge! We got one with shredded chicken and one with shredded beef. The beef definitely had better flavor and paired so well with their green sauce. We could've just gotten 1 Arepa since they're huge and stuffed to the brim. Probably one of the only places left in Astoria you can get some delicious arepas! Do yourself a favor and come by!
Ate here today for dinner by myself after work while being a temporary substitute paraprofessional at P.S. 112 Q. I had tried and brought the mini platter with a side of arepa and a cold and refreshing can of Venezuelan soda that it was really good and delicious. The service there was also attentive and friendly. I couldn't agree more. Finally, I would definitely eat and come back again next time! :)
This place is definitely best for take out. The pernil arepa was fire especially topped with the hot salsa and green sauce- the pork cooked deliciously, wasn't greasy and the arepa was nice and soft. I loved the sugar cane and lime tea!!! The restaurant space is extremely tight, we were a party of 5 and I felt really cramped in the side space they sat us at. The service was okay, there was a language barrier which is fine but we had to ask for things a couple of times to get what we needed like an extra plate and cup.
Food is good and filling. We were a party of two and ordered the mini platter and the arepas pabellon x2. We definitely ordered with our hungry stomachs, because it was too much food. :) The food came out in a timely manner for them being busy on a Friday evening. They have happy hour available for certain drinks during a certain time. I had the passion fruit sangria, which was tasty. Location is a little small, but there was no wait when we went. Staff is helpful and friendly. Prices are decent for the amount of food you get. read more

I visited this cafe with my family and my fiance. We were 5 people total. I felt the space was a little cramped. We ordered the mini arepas platter for the table, which was ok. I personally ordered the cheese arepa, which was also just OK. There's nothing really unique or memorable at this cafe. It's a no-frills type of arepa eatery. If you're looking to eat arepas, visit this place. It will be a solid choice- just not a particularly exceptional one. read more

Arepas café it's a great place to eat some of the authentic Venezuelan dishes. Good to get together with friends or family, arepas are really good but the patacón it's a must try, it's so delicious, I really like it. Service it's pretty good, I hope they improve to be better :) read more
I was super excited to try this place and food wise they didn't disappoint. But service was mediocre at best. We came in and after blankly staring ahead we were seated. Then it took about 15 minutes to place our order.. two servers walked back and fourth looked at us and glazed over.. it's pretty upsetting and I don't want to be rude but we had to literally say HEY PLZ NOTICE US we are ready to order. I really wanted to try the egg nog but they said they didn't have it noooo. We got a tuna arepa it was nice and salty We got an arepa with stewed beef nice and tender. We got a plate with roasted pork also tender and huge portion I recommend everyone needs to get the mini platter it's a great way to get everything. But to be honest I don't recommend anyone eat in unless you want to be ignored :( read more

Arepas are the best thing to eat, especially when you are very hungry. They are comfy, hearty, filling, delicious and fairly healthy lol Arepas cafe is this little cute place off the N train on 36 ave, Astoria. Their arepas are pretty authentic and original. I had the pabellon and the was fully stuffed with beef, plantains, black beans and cheese. I think the carne mechada at white maize tastes better, more flavor. My colleague had the mami and said it was pretty good. The mini empanadas were ok. I was pretty disappointed at the mini cachapas. I just could taste the sweet corn. The biggest disappointment was the sangria. We got the happy hour pitcher for $22, passion fruit flavor. It tastes just like passion fruit juice, not alcohol at all and this says a lot coming from a lightweight like me. The cilantro sauce was meh, too much mayo and needed more cilantro. The hot sauce is pretty hot but it went well with the meat. I was too stuffed for dessert but definitely coming back for some tres leches and quesillo. They also over the full christmas traditional Venezuelan dish: hallaca, pan de jamon, ensalada de gallina. Service was ok. Staff was friendly but didn't provide much service besides taking our orders and bringing the food. read more

I used to come here a lot for lunch when I used to work in the area. The place has awesome arepas, I am torn between who has the better arepa, this place or carcas since both are really really good. The place is a very straight forward restaurant, you go just for the really good food. The decor and service is basic. Also, Arepa Grill is the sister store where a Queens Yelp Elite event was held. The food: Mini Cachapas- sweet fresh corn pancake with Venezuelan cheese. These were good but not really amazing. It's like a sweetened chewier pancake with cheese, the flavors are nice but one note. Fried Yuca- So damn light and delicious. So good. Guayanesa Tropical- Guayanes cheese, fried sweet plantains and avocados. It's sweet and savory with a nice chew from the arepa. The avocado adds a nice creamy element and the cheese adds a nice salty note. Arepa Pabellon- Shredded beef, black beans, fried sweet plantains, sprinkled with white cheese. I had this several times and I thought I wasn't going to like it, I was wrong, it's sooooo gooood. This is my fav, the blacks beans to the plantains to the beef are all wonderful. I love. Pabellon Criollo- shredded beef, white rice, black beans and fried sweet plantains sprinkled with white cheese. I think I prefer the arepas over the entrees. This was basically the Arepa Pabellon but with rice instead of the arepa and I think the entree was missing something. Wow! This place is a gem! I'm so happy they recommended it and we decided to make the trip!!! Really good and authentic Venezuelan cousine. If you love arepas, tequeños, empanadas, you HAVE TO GO! Even if it is far lol. We were staying in Manhattan so the trip there was long, but so worth it!!! I ordered the shredded beef Tostones which is plantains and it was perfection. From the perfect sauce, cheese and amount of beef to the presentation and size. It is plenty for one person! I even had to share it! The tequeños are a bit small but they were delicious so they are still getting a 5! My husband enjoyed the arepa so much! It had the perfect amount of beef and not overwhelmed with cheese which is always appreciated. You also find authentic Venezuelan beer which is a plus. It is a small place, so make sure to get there early or expect to wait. Tables are also really close to each other but that did not bother us at all. Go and enjoy!!! read more

This place is sooo good. I'm at the point that whenever I pass by the 36 avenue stop on the train I seriously consider getting off and grabbing a few arepas if it won't make me late for whatever or wherever I'm going to. Over the holidays they also have hallacas, a traditional Venezuelan Christmas dish of some type of meat in cornmeal wrapped in a banana leaf. Just note they are closed on Mondays. read more
It's a small cozy cafe with yummy and filling food. The mini platter was mostly fried, but it was nice to try different Venezuelan foods all in one. I love the fact that all their food is made from scratch. It has an authentic feel to it and it comes through. This is my favorite spot in this part of Astoria. Today was my second visit and it was even better than the first. The waiter was even nice to talk to us about the writing on the wall once I asked. Above the bar, there are a slew of words that describe Venezuela; one of the phrases was "politicos corruptos." I like that they have a sense of humor here. read more
Yelp's iPhone mobile app brought me over to Arepas Cafe so I have to give a shout out to y'all Astoria yelpers! Great little spot and cafe that's all about Venezuela and these little sandwiches called arepas. First time I've ever had one, we're talking about a lightly pan-fried corn tortilla (but thicker) stuffed with meat, cheese and maybe some veggies. I threw down the arepa pabellon which has some shredded beef, black beans, plantains and white cheese. Great mouth-feel, you get a burst of crisp corn meal and then the chewy goodness of the meat and beans along with the sweetness of the plantains. I highly recommend having your arepa with the chili-hot sauce which has just enough kick to make it more interesting. What can I say but it was a great little sandwich that packs a delicious punch! I probably won't be back to Arepas for a while since I don't live in NY but it's a wonderful and authentic little spot that I could NEVER find in North Carolina. They were a little slow to open on a Sunday morning, leaving my friend and I to wait outside for like 10 minutes, but once we were seated, we were able to peruse the menu and order. There were only two things on the menu I could get that were both vegan and gluten-free - the Veggie Arepa and the Funghi Arepa. The Veggie Arepa had black beans, slightly sweet plantains and avocado inside and the Funghi Arepa had sauteed mushrooms. The latter needed a little salt, but otherwise they were delicious! The arepa itself was nice and crisp on the outside, and they did not skimp at all on the fillings. I barely could finish the two arepas plus the passion fruit juice which was also delicious. read more
This place was my first time trying Venezuelan food. Came here with a couple of friends. It tasted similar to Colombian food. We started with the appetizer sampler. It was small finger food - such as mini empanadas and pieces of fried yucca. For $11, it's not a good deal because the pieces are so small. However, you get to try a bunch of things. Then, we each had our own arepa. The arepas are all around $6-$8. They are not that large - about 6 inches or so in diameter. They are good quality and there is a huge variety to choose from. However, you will need to get at least two or you will be hungry. I also tried the national dish of Venezuela, pabellon criollo. The dish was surprisingly basic. It consists of shredded beef with rice and beans and shredded cheese, with fried plantains. This was a tasty dish but was nothing new taste wise for someone like me whose eaten tons of Latin American food. The Colombian national dish (bandeja paisa) is way better. read more
I had saw arepas in an ad and kept craving a good one. We traveled to Astoria to this life cafe to enjoy the arepas. We started with the fried yuca sticks which were very tasty and freshly made. They came with this delicious cilantro sauce that I still can't get over. I got the pulled pork arepa and my uncle got the shrimp. We were actually shocked at how much shrimp they put in the arepa and how tasty the sauce was. They were yummy, tasty and fresh. read more

I love going out on the weekends and trying new foods. I have heard so many good things about an arepa so I really wanted to try one. Everyone I asked on where to get the best arepa have lead me to here. And they did not disappoint. At first I was like "$7 for one ? That's a little pricey don't you think? Am I even going to be full after this ?" Boy was I wrong. These arepas were huge and filling and I was beyond satisfied with it. Did I forget to mention that the staff and service overall was excellent ?? They were very helpful with the recommendations and even gave us a same sample of the brown sugar lemonade as we were curious if we should get that or not! Definitely going to be coming back here. Tip: Buy a bottle of that godly Green sauce for yourself ! It's worth it !! read more
This meal was absolutely spectacular!! My favorite arepa was the pork and Gouda cheese fried arepa. It was so so cheesy and the pork was really tender and flavorful. I also got the Miami beef arepa with shredded white cheese and avocado which was also really good. These arepas were really nice portions and the prices were fair. We also loved the sauce. We got one of the big sweet arepa pancakes stuffed with cheese and that was a table favorite as well as the mini sampler plate. Will definitely be going back soon and recommending to my friends! Caught dinner with my old roommate here and this was such a treat. Definitely gives the Arepa Lady a run for her money. Got the Mami, pork with cheese and avocado. My. Goodness. What an incredible arepa. The cilantro sauce pair perfectly with everything here, and I certainly wasnt shy with dousing everything in it. Definitely worth heading out of Manhattan for. read more

This spot offers both indoor and outdoor dining. They have these great heat lamps for this old weather! The arepas were SO good!!! They had great seasoning. My favorite one had to be the Bomba Arepa which was chicken salad with avocado and cheese . The corn shell was just the right amount of crisp, warm but also soft. I would definitely come back here to try other arepas! It was also a very affordable place to eat and the staff was super friendly. Give it a try if you're in the area! read more

First of all, I am NEVER in Queens, but on this Sunday afternoon I was supporting a friend's pop-up shop about a block away. After the event we were famished and another friend mentioned that Arepas Cafe was close-by and apparently delicious. I am a self-proclaimed foodie, but had never heard of this place. All I can say is HOLY FRIGGIN DELICIOUSNESS! We got there just in time to be seated immediately and beat the crowd. The restaurant is quaint, is comfortable and has an unpretentious mom and pops shop feel. The three of us each ordered different items and we were all happy with our choices. You can always tell that food is good when everyone is quiet and digging in! We also shared a pitcher of white sangria which was flavorful and potent! The waitress was super helpful in describing the dishes, portion sizes, and making recommendations. I could only finish half of my sandwich and it literally tasted just as good the following day! Im a Manhattan girl, but I will absolutely trek back to Queens for Arepas Cafe -- and you should too! read more
After a disappointing evening at Studio Square this was absolutely the best part of my night. We showed up as a group, spontaneously and they were very nice and accommodating. We ordered just about everytyhing on the menu and everyone was beyond happy. Great place for a Sunday brunch with friends. They handle groups of 7 easily...,and the food and presentation was phenomenal. Very nice, family-run restaurant with delicious food. I've never had an arepa except for those kind sold at NYC Street festivals and those suck. These are like filled, cornflour pitas. Each table has green, garlic sauce and a very spicy hot sauce. Eating the arepa was a bit messy because my pernil was juicy and this made my sandwich a little sloppy in my hands. I had the lunch combo with the soup, which is enormous. I could've dined on that alone. The soup is a hearty chicken soup with lots of chunky carrots, potatoes, yuca & corn on the cob. Everything was very good and I look forward to trying other items. read more

I started with a drink and ordered the passion fruit sangria and my oh my was it delicious! I love Maracuya (passion fruit). For my appetizer I decided to go with the Tasting platter and it was a amazing ! I love the fact it gives you four different types of meats so it helps you decide what kinda of arepa meat you will like. I happened to order two arepas anyways without trying them since this was my first time. The arepa pabellon pollo and arepa pabellon pernil met my expectations for sure! Definitely a must go to place! read more
