Some great tacos and a few items which were inconsistent, but still a good experience overall. We came as a party of four and shared 10 tacos across everyone. Surprisingly, my personal favorites were the various breakfast tacos, with Buen Dia being my favorite. The grilled fish taco was also very juicy and tender. Howvee, they might have had an off day, as our chicken and al pastor tacos were a bit dry. The seasoning was still decent on them. On our way home from the gym Saturday morning, we walked past this restaurant and saw their menu outside, which mentioned they serve breakfast tacos. As recent transplants from Houston, TX, my husband and I used to eat a LOT of breakfast tacos - this is a staple breakfast food down there and I've grown up on them. So I was very excited to find a restaurant near our apartment that serves them! We ordered them to-go at the bar and just hung out inside until they were ready. The inside of the restaurant is super nice! We really loved the atmosphere but felt out of place in our sweaty gym gear with our yoga mats in hand, otherwise we would've just dined in. As for the breakfast tacos, I was SUPER impressed!! Which says a lot because I'm used to eating super authentic Mexican food. I ordered an Egg/Potato/Cheese taco on a flour tortilla and my husband got a veggie breakfast taco. We also ordered a second one of mine to split, which ended up being the perfect amount for us (1.5 tacos each). The tortillas were fresh, which has me thinking that they were made that morning. The potatoes were crisp and well seasoned, and they were generous with the cheese they tossed into the taco. While I may not be in Houston anymore, these tacos DEFINITELY reminded me of home!! Enjoyed dinner with a friend at El Lado Taco! Right by the 30th Ave stop (N,R lines) which was convenient. The food was all delish. I really enjoyed the sides of esquites and guac which were both shareable potions. I got full on 3 tacos. I prefer seafood to red meat and I loved the fish taco. The shrimp taco was great to and was chock-full of ingredients! I was intrigued by "The Beast" taco (aka La Bestia). It had a generous helping of meat so I think meat-lovers would enjoy this, but personally wasnt one I'd order again! There's ample seating of dinner tables and high chairs that also have outlets. It was not busy at all, so it wwas really nice to have the restaurant to myself to dine-in. I imagine it's nice to have a breakfast there and can even get some work done in the mornings! read more

Absolutely thrilled this place opened in Astoria! As someone who loves Mexico City, I can vouch that these tacos are as close as you get to the same quality and flavor. They are a new restaurant on the busy block, but I've loved all of their offerings and there is always something new to look forward to on the menu! Their breakfast tacos are superb, I wish they served them all day! There are tons of vegetarian options that are fantastic using mushrooms, cactus, eggs, beans, and vegetables. The fresh tortillas and salsas really perfect the flavor profile and I've loved the shrimp and fish options they recently added! Their corn tortilla is vegetarian and I think flour tortillas have lard. Highly recommend this little joint for some of the best tacos you'll find in NYC! Breakfast tacos! Went here on a Wednesday morning for their 3x tacos gets you a free coffee deal. Didn't have time to take any pics bc they were SO good. I did 2x Tocino and 1x Papas Locas. Both were outstanding and 3 tacos were very filling. I went with flour tortillas - made in house. Incredible! Light, crisp, with perfect chew and they held together very nicely. The potatoes were seasoned and crisped to perfection. The bacon was perfectly salty and cut into delicious chunks. The eggs were fluffy all around. The coffee was great too and our server kept filling us up. Very welcoming and attentive. Small inside, but cozy and you can see the kitchen through glass in the back. Great new spot to have near us! El Lado does CDMX-style tacos and they do them better than a certain buzzy celebrity chef spot in Williamsburg. I love that they do both flour and corn tortillas, both made in-house. I've long lamented the lack of quality flour tortillas in New York but El Lado is fighting the good fight. My fiancé and I hit this place up for dinner and ordered a slew of tacos: the al pastor, the gaonera, the campechano, and the costillas. Each one was great and we're definitely coming back asap to try the breakfast selection too. The sauces are also amazing and a bit more unique than typical taqueria offerings. The chipotle in particular is packed with smoky flavor. Best of all, the prices are reasonable - $4.25 per lunch/dinner taco and $3.25 for breakfast ones - and each taco is sizeable too. We each had three and were comfortably full. The employee was also eager to help and hear any feedback. This shot up to our top 5 spots in the city and we'll be back many more times, I'm sure. read more

Been here a few times now and the quality and the cost continues to exceed all expectations.. they are not skimping on the quantity of eggs in their breakfast tacos despite egg prices increasing - their prices are still low. There's plenty of new things on the menu including fish, shrimp, chicken and mixed meat tacos and they are all fantastic - especially the grilled fish taco. Yet another New Mexican in Astoria. It seems there's a new one opening every month. But this place is different because they focus on tacos only. That's it. All you can get. With this focus they are able to pull off a super quality taco unmatched in Astoria (or pretty much anywhere in Queens). They make their tortillas fresh to order in either flour or corn. Both are good but being they are Mexico City style, it's the corn that blew me away. They do breakfast tacos all day too and they open early for a breakfast I would take over a BEC any day of the week. They have alcohol too but I haven't tried any yet. Otherwise it's tacos only. El Lado Taco 5 We were the only customers in the restaurant as it was only 4:30pm. The restaurant is super clean and I loved the ambiance. Our bar tender Jorge let me have a sip of the horchata slushy to make sure I liked it before I ordered and boy can I tell you... it was super delicious!!!! My husband usually doesn't like horchata but after I shared my sip, we ended up ordering 2 horchata slushies. Now onto the Happy Hour Tacos... every single one of the 3 were delicious... mixed vegetables, al pastor, and chicken. We ended up ordering 1 of each to start... but ended up order 5 more making it a total of 8 and we were both pretty stuffed. The flour tortillas were on another level!!! Cooked in lard and had a fantastic taste. I have never had tacos like that before. The lady was making fresh flour and corn tortillas right in the clear glass window for you to watch and see. The mixed vegetable taco was charred and grilled to perfection and it had cauliflower, onion and mushrooms inside. The chicken meat was dark thigh meat, so it was super juicy and you can taste the deeply marinated flavor that was soaked overnight. The Al Pastor taco was amazing!!! The pineapple chunks were so well charred, and then lightly dashed with Tajin powder. Our Favorite!!! My husband usually does not like Mexican food, but my gosh was he impressed with the tacos and the flour tortillas. We both do not like corn tortillas ever, but this place has totally changed our minds because the corn tortillas were quite thin, flaky crispy and super flavorful so now we will be open to coming back and eating more corn tortilla tacos. The type of place you might actually delay recommending to friends and reviewing bc you don't want it to blow up so much that you can't get in! But seriously, a wonderful small place with a focused menu. Breakfast tacos are the standout, and there's a great variety. Well-cooked vegetables work really well in the dishes. The corn tortillas remain moist and soft without falling apart. Small details were appreciated such as a taco with beans was plated with the beans on top of the other ingredients, so as to not make the tortilla soggy (or so assumed). Service was busy, as they (undoubtedly) get more popular, I hope they can keep the team well-supported. Appreciate that the menu and the staff clearly caveat that the flour tortillas contain manteca/lard. And that they've set up their POS system to calculate tip percentages on the total before taxes, as customary. Unfortunately, many restaurants lack transparency and a sense of customary decency in fees, so these things really matter to those who appreciate upfront honesty. It simply makes you want to return, support the business, and continue to tip over the suggested percentages. read more

Favorites so far were the bacon egg and cheese and mushroom tacos. Cons: The crispy potatoes were not crispy in the papas locos taco. They barely had any color on them and no texture.
