We finally made it to Ritchie's! This is a little spot located off a super busy road, but in my opinion still easy to miss. It was super busy inside when I picked up my take out (I'd say they are definitely understaffed) and I felt for the one guy taking in person orders, phone orders, and waiting and bussing tables. With that said, the food was overall wonderful. I highly recommend the ropa vieja and the chicken or beef empanadas. SO good. We'd probably skip the Sobra Barriga a la Criolla (we'd prefer more sauce/flavor and I don't think the meat was actually flank steak, it appeared to be brisket). Well definitely return! read more

Ritchie's is small Colombian restaurant and while the service was definitely slow, my food made up for it. I ordered the fried trout and was so impressed because it was perfectly crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside. I also tried the vegan empanada and had to double check it was really vegan because the seasoning was so rich and savory, I almost thought it had meat in it. Lastly, the "limonada coco" was delicious, but definitely overwhelming as I could not finish it all. My friend however, did not enjoy her arepa burger. Before ordering it she asked our waitress what toppings came on it. Our waitress seemed unwilling to give her any detail, which was a little off putting. She said that it had "typical" burger toppings on it, which was far from true. It came with ham, a fried egg, fries, etc., which was too over the top for my friend's palette. Yummy Colombian food in College Park. Great place to get consistent and yummy latin food while at UMD. Got the steak which came with rice, soup, plantains. Super yummy and very filling. I came in with my mom and my brother and we ordered a couple things bc we were so excited to try some of our culture's food :-) We ordered the sancocho de cola, (a delicious oxtail soup) that comes with a side of rice, potato and smashed plantain . We also got chorizo con arepa, carne empanadas, and abborajados (sweet plantain app fried with cheese and guava paste) ALL WAS SO GOOD!!! The abborajado and the sancocho surprised me the most bc of the insane flavor profile ! I ordered the cazuela de frijoles (bean stew) that came with chorizo and chicharrón. It also came with a hearty side of rice, fried egg, sweet plantain and smashed plantain . So much food for one person I couldn't finish it all on my own! My brother ordered the rope vieja , it was also delicious in flavor as well!! My mom and I agreed that our only complaint was that the soup came cold to the table so we sent it back for them to heat it up and the frijoles (beans) they serve are Central American red beans not the typical Colombian small round red beans we hold near and dear to our hearts! I also ordered a couple things to go and they seemed to forget about my order until I bugged them about it way later. So while the service is a bit disorganized, the location is relatively small but cozy and food was very tasty and has that home cooked meal feel to it for sure... I will be coming back! read more

Happy I found this authentic Colombian restaurant in College Park, very close to Hyattsville / PG plaza area. The portion was generous; I could eat maybe half of it. This dish, bandaja or plato paisa comes with a piece of steak, fried pork belly with crunchy skin, white rice, pinto beans, fried ripe plantains, avocado, a fried egg, and an arepa... I told you it was a lot!! Everything tasted like a home cooked meal, the beans especially; it was a little low in salt, which I didn't mind if I could add a small table side, but they didn't have it ready on the table. I was meeting with an old friend for lunch, and my go-to spot was opening at 4:00 that day, so I decided to try this spot since I hadn't heard of it and at the time it was fairly new. If you haven't been yet, it's in the strip of restaurants right across the street from Chipotle, &pizza, CVS and all those other places. Being super familiar with the area makes parking way easier. You can do the garage around the corner, which may be free for the first hour, and there are the plethora of campus parking signs... you can park at those for free after 4, or else you'll get ticketed. Back to the restaurant, there's plenty of space to sit at inside. There were some TVs, a chalkboard written entirely in Spanish and all artsy, nice decor, and the service was friendly! After my friend and I reviewed the menu, we decided to share the Bandeja Paisa, which sounded like it would be a lot of food. ...It was a lot of food, and lots of MEAT! I'm not used to having so many meat options in one sitting unless I'm at a BBQ place or something. I'm glad I had a friend to share it with!! We also tried 3*Bandeja Paisa: it's a big combo of Grill Meat, Fried Pork Skin, Chorizo, Rice, Beans, Sweet Plantains, Fried Plantain, and Arepita. I wasn't thrilled about it. When looking for a place to grab a bite in College Park, Yelpers steered me to Ritchie's. Parking was free for one hour in the adjacent garage and the menu was extensive. Luckily para mi, I understand Spanish, so I was able to navigate the menu and help my lunch companions know what they were ordering. I really enjoyed the Arepa with chicken. It was steaming hot and fresh. The dipping sauce was spicy right! The carne asada was very tasty, smooth and spiced nicely. The beans were very, very good. Mixed with the mound of rice - que rico! Fried plantains? Oh, heck yeah! I love fried plantains and these were the closest thing to how I make them at home. Perfectly soft and juicy, just a hint of sugar. Yummers! The service was very good, also. They were busy with a lunch crowd, but our service was fast and got everything correct that we ordered. Great place. Will definitely try this out again in the future. When you finally do get help, the staff is incredibly rude--one of them was actually making faces while we were ordering. It's authentic and everything is delicious. I've been twice and it was excellent both times. The portions are large so come hungry. They don't have a designated server, so service while dining in takes a while. But if you aren't in a rush, the lights inside wear cowboy hats. Takeout took about 15 minutes and tasted just as good. They separate each meal into separate boxes so food doesn't get soggy. Drinks: - Champu tastes like apple pie in liquid form. There are chunks of pineapple and other fruits in there too so it feels like a dessert. - Agua panela tasted like sweet tea with a sweet instead of bitter after taste. Would recommend.
