Love this place. I was first introduced to this fine joint when Ben G. had his welcome CMYE event when he was the ATL Yelp manager. I was already a huge fan of the EAV area but fell instantly in love with Argosy. Their cool vibe, super friendly staff and overall decor of this place made me want to tell everyone I knew about this place. Visited here several times in the past year for Saturday night fun, birthday dinners and so on. Most recently, I had my birthday party on the second floor, indoor balcony area. It was PERFECT. The place comfortably houses about 24 people, cocktail style with plenty of seating all throughout the private space. There's a $500 CC hold for the reservation. Collectively as a group, the minimum spend is that amount and the balance would be charged to your card if it was under spent. I worked with Chris R., the office manager at Argosy to plan for the party and he was uber patient with me and helpful in answering all of my questions leading up to the event. I appreciated his help in communicating to the management team my request and setting us up with Emily who was our fantastic server for the night! I was initially expecting about 30+ guests but about 22-23 showed up and it was perfect since again, per Chris' suggestion, the private space comfortably seats that many. After visiting the space last Saturday, I wouldn't recommend more than a group of 24 in order to have some room to mingle and have all of your guests be comfortable. Their special menu rocked! Part of what makes East Atlanta Village so great is that it has been a spot where people who look and think like me - the heavily tattooed, live music-loving, intelligent Generation X-ers - could eat, drink, be merry and have good conversation away from the roving eyes of those who want to be like us, but can't, because they are not willing to trade away too much of their sameness, their wanting to fit in. So imagine my disappointment when my friend Laura and I decided to check out the Argosy and were baffled why everybody has been praising this place, when it basically is, just not cool. As she said it best, "It's like being in the Highlands ... but in East Atlanta." That sums it up pretty well. This is a bar for those who want to be seen. It is hipster, it is trendy, it is new and cool - it is all the things that do not really fit in EAV. The drink menu was not great, the bartenders did not seem to really know what was going on and the ambience was a jumble of things that did not seem to really fit together. But the most damning thing about the Argosy is that it was the first time I had ever felt uncomfortable in the EAV. Yes, I am Indian and tattooed and my friend had her face painted and in costume, but who the fuck cares? No one usually does in this part of town because it's, well, normal. This was the fifth stop on a night of drinking so bear that in mind: the atmosphere is really cool, it seemed hella dark in there though. The servers all had funky outfits and haircuts and were very helpful. We came in right before the kitchen closed so just got fried and a cheese board but the drinks were good, extensive beer list, and the cheese board was neat. I'd heard many good things about Argosy, so a friend of mine and I FINALLY went to check it out. Argosy did not disappoint. We fell in love with the place immediately. Service was quick and attentive. Multiple folks made really good suggestions, and the fact is that you are not likely to go wrong with anything on this menu. My friend and I shared some beets, the pork belly kababs, and a pizza. The Beets were fantastic. The beet chips really balanced out against the rest of the dish. The pickled beets in the dish had a nice sharpness that played well with the creaminess of the sour-cream. I will happily order this thing again. Pork belly kababs were good, but the description said something about a chipotle influence which just seemed like it was missing. Still, as I said, it was good. I just wanted it to have a small kick or a smoky burn. Our Mutiny On The Bounty pizza was really, very nice. Normally I like vegetarian pizzas, but this one was really good. It wasn't too saucy, and they seem to be using some high quality mozzarella. And that fennel sausage was excellent. The crust was a really good consistency. It was thin, but not so thin it felt like a cracker. I think they've perfected their pizza practice. Argosy is dark and comfortable. The nautical theme is pretty cool. And the music isn't too loud. Let's talk about creative decor (funky and nautical without trying too hard), plenty of seating (and not just the uncomfortable kind, but also "cool-kid couches," large tables to accommodate larger parties and plenty of bar seating and a private room you can reserve). Yea, there is that. Also, quite the beer (and cider) selection for those who are interested in local and microbrews. Great cocktail options and bartenders who like to be challenged. Also, the music selection is always pretty spot on. None of that crap that makes me want to gouge out my ear drums. The music just fades into the background. So what else, hmmmmm. Food. Yes, the food is great. Think bar food with a creative twist. It will entice the foodies, without driving away the bar food-types. Coca-cola and beer boiled peanuts and a personal favorite of mine as well as the sesame chicken lolipops. Both great appetizer options to keep you drinking. But my go-to is the Plancha Burger. Trust me on this, folks. It's a double stack with American cheese (I know, but the trust), house made pickles, and caramelized onions all on a Holeman & Finch bun. If you want, they will add bacon (DO IT), but otherwise they will NOT customize this burger. They bring it out on a cutting board with a side of fries and I strong recommend you get a dipper sauce. Personally, for the fries, get the Buttermilk Parm. You will thank me. If you feel especially decadent, also get some Yum Sauce. You're welcome. The staff is pretty friendly and always open to suggestions, especially if you aren't sure what drink to order. They have been well-trained and know how to direct you. You can order late, but the kitchen stops serving at 11pm during the week, midnight on Friday and Saturday. However, they keep the pizza oven hot til 2am. So a great late not stop if you are hungry for something other than Cook-Out grease. Come for the beer, stay for the food. I don't spend much time in East Atlanta Village, primarily because the vast majority of restaurants are smoke-infested filth holes with borderline criminal food offerings and hipster indifferent service. However, the area's most recent addition, Argosy, is a welcomed deviation from the norm. Brought to you by the same partners behind the Bookhouse Pub, Argosy is poised to become a mainstay and catalyst of East Atlanta Village's resurgence. Food: I wasn't expecting much from the food at Argosy after reading some of the previous reviews, but left pleasantly surprised after my initial visit. The menu is predominately comprised of American Continental gastropub fare, including an extensive American craft beer menu and craft cocktails. Food offerings include starters, Spotted Trotter mini dogs, salads, sandwiches, flat bread pizzas, larger entrees, and desserts. I had the crispy fried chicken sandwich with baby spinach, pickled onion, and sesame mayo, which was excellent. I also ordered a side of asiago mac n' cheese, which was perfectly creamy and incredibly flavorful. Service: The staff are aesthetically, but not ideologically, hipster. Our waitress was very pleasant, competent, and attentive. My only complaint is that there was about a 5 minute lag between the delivery of entrees for my dining partner and I. The waitress was apologetic, but in reality this was likely a back of the house issue. Atmosphere: As others have appropriately noted, the interior of this place is impeccable. It's essentially one big room modeled to look like an argosy, or merchant ship, with different levels and sections. Between the bar area, high-top tables, booths, and couches, there's really something to please almost anyone. There's also a pseudo outdoor patio, which opens up to the sidewalk via a retractable door. Argosy should be commended for prohibiting smoking inside the main room. However, it's still permitted in the patio area - since it's fully enclosed with the exception of one wall, it can get pretty intolerable when the smoking tragic are in force. Cost: Contrary to some of the other reviewers, I actually found the food to be very reasonably priced for the quality, portions, and location. Appetizers are $5-$10, mini dogs are $4, salads are $4-$7, sandwiches (including a side) are $8-$10, pizzas are $14-$15, entrees are $15-$18, and desserts are $5-$6. So, after our visit it came to our attention that we had been charged improperly. Evidently, the day before our visit, they had had some credit card processing issues. For a first time experience, all I can say is this is not the end result I had hoped for. 1) The food was good and the waitstaff. 2) Bring cash, I will not use a credit card here. 3) The assistant manager Chris had poor customer service skills. I like Argosy. I think it's a cool space. The interior is mighty rad. Like everyone else has said, it's beautiful. It's sexy. And they know it along with everyone else. Pros: -Awesome beer selection that is constantly changing. -Lots of seating. Inside and outside. -Huge bar. -Atmosphere. Cons: -Not child friendly. -Sometimes the food is under seasoned. -Can be a tad pretentious. It's hilarious to me that there's a variety of different people that go to Argosy..This includes families. BUT, they don't have high chairs or a kids menu. They do have booster seats that suck (no straps), which I guess is okay, but most young children need restraints because they are constantly trying to get up and run around. Is this a tactic to try to defer families? Food is alright to me. Sometimes underwhelming though. My first visit I got the Spicy Popcorn as an appetizer, very good. And my entre was the Fried Catfish Sandwich. It was a tad bland. It needed some more seasoning in the breading and some lemon juice to brighten it up. And the second time I got the Cuban with Sesame Kale. Cuban was good, just needed a little more of the mustard. And the Sesame Kale Salad left a lot to be desired. Service was alright. I love the atmosphere and sitting at the bar for some drinks with friends. In the back bar (not always open) they have ski ball and a smoking patio. Pretty sure their menu changes from time to time. I wouldn't trust the menu on here either. Their pizza is pretty amazing. I've tried the white butcher block with prochuto & the Mutiny on the Bounty (red sauce w multiple meats). The latter is a floppy foldable style. And what I mean by floppy is that your meat will fall off if you don't support the pointy end. I've also eaten their cheeseburger 3 times because IMO it's one of the best in Atlanta and Nothing else on the menu ever appeals to me for whatever reason. Back to the burger... juicy, flavorful, melted yellow American cheese and Seriously... I don't even need to add ketchup! That is sooooo not what I'm used to with burgers. So my last visit was with my boyfriend this past week. Service was great but the food was disappointing... actually, my boyfriend's food was disappointing. I ordered the burger because they were out of the only other items on the menu, that I was interested in trying. So the cheeseburger it was! He got a salad of some sort (I don't recognize it from the menu posted here) and grilled octopus. Neither of us thought the salad was any good. The octopus came out and he took one bite of it and said "wierd... I guess this is a cold dish." We were very thrown off by this. When our server came back around, my guy asked him if it was supposed to be served and his reply was No. so he took it back and told us they'd have a new one made. Super fun vibe here. This long narrow and dark restaurant keeps your head turning as yoh uncover new details. The art was awesome their bar is very catchy. They have a robust need and wine list and are happy to whip up any cocktail. If you want to go out for casual drinks and a bite to argosy is definitely a fun place to visit. The margarita pizza paired very well with my drinks (as all food does after a few). Very tasty brick oven pizza. Nothing overwhelmingly special but it was made with love. Hallelujah there is free parking in the back lot of the building! You can't miss Argosy off the street; they have a big sign on the storefront. The atmosphere is great. They have a large patio area (that can be heated if needed) that opens up through their glass garage door. The space inside is super spacious, as well. This place is great for large groups and it's really chill. They also have some decent decor inside. The food is a hit or miss. We started off with some boiled peanuts, shrimp n crab dip, buffalo bbq chicken pops, and hummus. The boiled peanuts were a fail. They were under cooked and had no seasoning. Definitely not the soft, salty(or cajun), Southern boiled peanuts that I'm used to. The buffalo bbq chicken pops were okay; a bit sweet, probably because the bbq. They were average. The real downside is that they were cold by the time they made it to our table. They probably sat in the window too long before getting expedited. The shrimp n crab dip was the best appetizer we tried. It was really cheesy, but I was surprised that the dip came out really yellow because the menu said the base was cream cheese and buttermilk. Maybe from the color of the corn rubbed off? Anyways.. I got the cowgirl ribeye for my entree, which came with a horseradish sauce, potatoes and bell peppers, and creamed spinach. I don't have much to day, the ribeye was way too charred. The burnt taste was really overwhelming. The creamed spinach was bland. Although the plating/presentation was on point. Most others in my group said they enjoyed their food. Maybe I just got unlucky tonight. At the end of the day, I guess I didn't come here for a Michelin star meal; bar food is bar food. My expectations were MORE based on how good their beer list is and how cool the atmosphere is; which this place has. But if you're going to be a gastropub, the food can't be so hit or miss. Argosy is so pretty. It's one of those places I like to go just because of how cool everything looks. The fact that this place has great food and a fantastic beer selection just makes the experience even better. My most recent visit to Argosy was for a friends bday bash. She reserved the upstairs area that overlooks the "main" bar/dining area. It was the perfect space for a private get together. We had our own server and she was awesome and attentive to all of us for several hours. No easy feat! The beer list is rather daunting but the server was nice enough to make a few recommendations and I ended up loving what she recommended. We were there mostly for drinking but I have tried the veggie burger, greens, and "The Mermaid" pizza. The pizza is seriously some of the best I've had. I was surprised and would definitely recommend trying their food. The crowd is kind of hipsterey... It is East Atlanta, afterall.. but it's not to the point where you will feel uncool if you show up in non-hipster attire. We were late and most of the food was gone, some of the staff seemed tired and possibly irritable, but one staff stepped up - the very upbeat and compassionate Armando. This restaurant is very beautiful inside, with lots of carved wood accents and interesting art. It's also a pretty big place, not including the private room in the back that can be reserved for events. However, the food leaves much to be desired. My boyfriend and I ordered the mushroom pizza (Hermes) and a salad (Wedge), to share amongst the two of us . For the price, the salad was EXTREMELY disappointing - it cost $12 and was even smaller than my friend's side salad that he got with his burger. Realistically it shouldn't have cost more than $3 for that measly little salad. We were so shocked that we even double checked with our waitress that it was a full size salad, and she said it was. The pizza was good, but again, for the price was not worth it. It cost $20 just for some mushrooms and a little bit of onion. The service was just okay. The food took a ridiculous amount of time to come out. We received the pizza more than 10 minutes before our dinky little salad came out. While the restaurant's private back room was rented out, the main house was incredibly empty. So while I understand that they probably had a lot of orders, they were only around half their capacity. I can't imagine how slow their service is on a slightly busier night... Overall the experience was just meh. The food wasn't that amazing and the prices did not make it worth it. To me, the interior of the restaurant is too nice for them to be serving such mediocre food, they should really step it up (foodwise) if they want to stay in business. read more

This is my go-to spot when I'm around the Moreland area. I really really like this place! The atmosphere, clientele, customer service, menu and parking are all up to my standards. Their veggie burger, their fries and their Chicken Pops are amazing! My only complaint is that I LOVE 'Moscow Mules' and yes they do serve them, just WITHOUT the actual Copper Mule that it's supposed to be served in. Dive bar in disguise, very unpleasant experience, would not recommend. We got seated right away, and the host was very nice. We were then greeted by our server, in which we put in an order for an old fashioned, a gin tom collins and fries with parm rach and wing sauce (a.k.a sweet/spicy bbq). The fries were really good, especially when mixing the two sauces- but this was the only bright side to our night at Argosy. Unfortunately my partner noticed a fly in her old fashioned, and my drink tasted like minute made with gin- something you would get at the club, not a Tom collins. Although they remade the old fashioned, there was no apology from any of the staff, nor visit from any manager to acknowledge the situation. I also tried to change out my "Tom Collins", but they told me that they do not allow returns nor exchanges if a guest is unhappy with their drink. Yelp helped "steer" (boat pun intended) us to Argosy, not a merchant ship or the for-profit university, but a cool restaurant in East Atlanta. Curated beer list and elevated pub grub in a trendy space? We're sold. Try your luck in the parking lot just south of the restaurant. There is a bit of a wait on popular nights, but at least Argosy will seat incomplete parties. Four of us were placed at a six person table. The table was actually sorta narrow so that worked out since we could use the empty spots for extra plates and such. The respectable beer list is light on the local brews but heavy on a wide range of styles. Beer snobs will be able to find something appealing on tap or in a bottle. I gave one of the two goses on the draft menu a go, not bad at all. Most of the draft beers are in the $5-8 range. Two orders of the Brasstown beef poutine ($8 each) were successfully destroyed. The beef is braised in Eventide's Dry Irish Nitro Stout; curds are smaller than what I'm used to but no matter. The certified poutine expert at the table gave the poutine the stamp of approval. I sampled one of the wing-like sesame chicken lollipops which was an iota too spicy for me but were popular with the rest of our gang. Since I can't resist a burger, I went with the Plancha burger ($10) which could certainly be a contender for one of Atlanta's better burgers. Even the presentation was noteworthy, on a wooden cutting board. You aren't asked how you want the patties cooked since there are two thin ones, hugged by a sturdy H&F bun. The American cheese was melted and gooey. I prefer raw onions but caramelized ones work too, and there are pickles and a separate spear but no lettuce or tomato. You know a burger's great when you are down to the last bite and don't want to eat it since then the burger will be gone. Fries are the default side; I subbed an "accessory" for a $1.50 upcharge, getting the black eyed pea and pickled GA corn salad. This proved to be a wise move since the southern salad was excellent, with some onions and lots of vinegar. Good portion size too. Others seemed happy with their Nashvegas hot chicken sandwiches and The Admiral pizzas. Our hipster server was very polite and may have slipped in a few "darlins" here and there. Perhaps he could have been a teensy tad more attentive but hey, it was a busy weekend evening. The bathrooms are at the back of Argosy; simply walk down the hall marked with taxidermy heads and look right. The women's restroom had three stalls I think and didn't have any issues. This marks my first review since moving to Atlanta. I was looking for a place with great outdoor seating and Benjamin G.'s review definitely sold me. I agree with him, the outdoor seating here is a top seller of this joint, but honestly, it boasts the total package. So, yes, the outdoor seating...they have this incredible fully-windowed garage door, impressive with its strong-like-bull belts and pulleys, that they keep open when the weather is nice with at least a dozen or so tables. The walls are adorned with nicely done woodwork and crafty planters. When I look around here, I am thinking somebody put a ton of money into this place...even down to the light fixtures. This place is well-known for their extensive list of craft beers. Do not come in here to get a Bud Light...if you are a bud light type of person, maybe the Allagash will suit you. Our server was well-versed in beer knowledge. I went with the White Thai from the Westbrook Brewing Co. which is a great summer witbier. The taste brought me back to the original Ephemere by Unibroue, a personal favorite...too bad it is retired. I was so torn about what to get to eat. Pizza vs burger vs tuna burger...I want them all. I decided to give their tuna burger a chance...some places don't really know how to give you a rare tune burger, but they absolutely do it right. A perfectly done rare tuna burger with pickled onions, kimchi mayo, srichacha drizzle...and man, even the fries are good. And how awesome that they already have the malt vinegar on the table! I had to get the Mac & Cheese app...yum, yum! The right cheesy blend with some crunchy panko on top...who cares if you are getting fries...you need this too! Argosy is da bomb! I live in Kirkwood so it's like, my jam. Love their curry wings!!!! They have this cool octopus dish with watermelon that makes you feel like you're in Thailand. Their entire vibe just goes against the grain. I never get into their pizzas and such but they have a good rep. I usually stick to their entrees, salads, and small plates. read more

One of our regular neighborhood haunts in EAV. Sometimes parking can be a mess but it's so worth it. We love getting a spot near the patio when it's a little warm outside and just posting up with some delicious drinks. I legit can't stop getting their Plancha Burger with fries. And if it's on the menu, definitely get the vegan poutine fries. You really can't go wrong here, unless you get the Mac and cheese. It's not the best, but hey--who am I to say. read more

The food we got was good but I had to wait 15 minutes for my pizza after everyone else got their entrees

Went to Argosy for a late night dinner with my guy. We were looking for something open late Friday night and were happy to see the kitchen was open until 12. When we got there we were promptly seated and given menus. We really liked the decor and atmosphere and it seemed like a cool place bring friends. I had the lamb gnocchi which was really good. The gnocchi was light and lamb was pretty tender and my partner had the trout, which he enjoyed. His only complaint was that the portion was bit on the small side. The beer list was extensive and I enjoyed the wide the selection. Service, food and atmosphere were all pretty good and I look forward to going back to try other items on the menu. Wouldn't suggest this for a first date though, as the music is pretty loud. read more
