This place is located in a super shady area and can be hard to find, but is as authentic as you can get. The restaurant is family owned, and the food is pretty good. I had the Jolof Rice and the owner was kind enough to let us try some fufu too. The flavors are unique and unlike anything I've had before. During covid they actually open at 1pm on Sundays (as opposed to 12:30 listed on their site/google). I personally have not eaten too much African food before, but the owner was kind and helpful in explaining. When I went with my sister, we were the only ones dining in. The owner sat with us and explained what was on the menu. Later after eating, the cook helped us pack our leftovers. (She could have simply just given us the box and let us do this ourself.) The owner might seem a bit inattentive/aloof but I promise he's friendly and kind. Overall I would probably come again. There are so many dishes I want to try on the menu and seeing how this is also a small business, I may as well shop local! Overlooking the area, I had a great experience.

I was searching for some west African food, and found this place with good reviews. It's a bit far away in Houston. Started our meal with meat pie, and it was pretty good. Up next we ordered goat pepper soup and egusi stew. Now, I'm Nigerian and this is a Ghanaian restaurant. The stews with the pounded yams were good, but also different than what I've been used to. I was taken a bit aback but decided to have an open mind. I do wish the pepper soup was spicy like I'm used so but I think they saw me with my American friend and modified it Food: 7/10 Service: 10/10!

    Jollof rice with beef

This mom & pop restaurant is the best african food in houston, the owners are so welcoming & nice! I ordered togo & the food was still delicious by the time I got home. The jollof rice was good especially with the beef, there was so much flavor in there. This is the best egusi soup i've ever had & the fufu was perfection. I like to grab a bit of fufu with egusi & drizzle some beef sauce on top for the perfect bite! 10/10 would recommend !!

OOOOOOOOOOOOH MY GOODNESSSSSSSS!!! That food was amazing. First off, the owner is a very nice man who explained to my boyfriend and I some of the most popular dishes. Since it was our first time, we had to just go all out with trying something new, so we each got a different plate. We ordered the Egusi soup with goat meat and yam fufu plus the jollof rice with the brisket .... Man oh mannnnnnn! The food didn't even make it out the restaurant before I opened each container to try a little. Everything was flavorful I actually just finished off the leftovers not too long ago! I cannot wait to go back and try new dishes!!!!! You definitely have to check this place out!!!! My only dislike were the plaintains, I guess I wanted them sweeter. But I'm going to try them again.

As a Nigerian, we hv amazing soups so my review may be a bit partial since my taste buds hv been blessed all my life.....After reading the reviews of their peanut butter soup perhaps I overhyped myself about it but in my reality it was just ok. Nothing I would order again, & goat meat being $5 extra for a few pieces is pretty excessive. The customer service was good, the environment ok. But the peanut soup I would rate 6/10. This is not to say their other dishes aren't fantastic. I've had their Jeloff rice when a coworker catered it which was pretty good. I would like to try their other dishes.

Places like this make Houston so cool. You have to appreciate the diversity. I came in the afternoon and many online orders were being assembled. I was greeted friendly and ordered peanut soup with goat meat and fufu. I wasn't that hungry but the soup broth was delicious. The goat was a bit gamey , some pieces tough and chewy and other pieces meat that slide off the bone. The fufu was fine I never had African food before. I look forward to returning. I think the exotic African cuisine was worth the prices. Thank you.

Food is really yummy, but area kinda sketch. Had to leave the restaurant and ask the owner to call me when the food was ready because my friend and I were being harassed by the some of their customers. These golden age (60+ yo) men were grabbing on my friend and I demanding us to sit with them, rubbing on us. aht ahr sir keep your hands to yourself please!! Anyway, The restaurant isn't at fault for how their customers behave, but if they're regulars I highly recommend the owners letting them know to not rush up on women!! Restaurant could use some lipstick and rouge to be more inviting, not a whole lot of seating available (about 6 tables with maybe 4 chairs each). Food: so good!! I had the beef stew with Jollof and plantains!! Delicious!! My friend had the Efo Riro ( I believe) with beef and fufu!! Everything was delicious and my friend and I danced while eating so you know it's real

Nestled in the back of a non-descript plaza is this gem, Afrikiko. We were starving on arrival, so we started with meat pies, which the waitress kindly heated up for us. These were piping hot and flakey with well seasoned beef- a great start. Jollof rice is really the extent of my experience with Ghanaian food, so my friend and I decided to instead take advantage of the stew and fufu meals and ordered a Goat Pepper stew and Egusi Soup with fried fish and pounded yam. I like that there were different options for how the fish was cooked or that we could even choose the meat in our stew. Both soups were flavorful and warming, and the pounded yam was the perfect vehicle. The Goat Pepper Stew was quite mild, so next time I will ask for it spicy - to be sure they don't hold back on me :) The waitstaff were friendly and welcoming. Can't wait to come back!

A small, little locally owned restaurant. We tried them out for lunch. The menu had quite a bit to choose from. We tried a variety of soups and the fried chicken. All of the dishes were very flavorful and the portions were big. The owner was very nice. She interacted with customers and explained everything. She was very friendly.

I visited this restaurant based on the reviews. The restaurant was clean but there was a lot of clutter behind the register. They Occupy the space next-door for storage and it is visible to the public. It's very cluttered with cooking supplies. I moved past that and placed my order anyway. I purchased the fried chicken with the Jollof rice. The food was horrible. The Fried chicken was not edible! It was fried without any coating on it so it dried out the chicken and it was very hard to eat. The chicken was cut in a weird way it did not resemble chicken so I questioned the type of meat that it was. The Jollof rice was not good! Not happy with the food! I drove 26 miles round-trip and it was a waste of my time money and gas!

Came here on a whim with my mother and it did NOT disappoint! We wanted to try authentic West African cuisine and we happened upon Afrikiko when I googled around. We weren't sure what to get, so we asked the owner and he recommended: - Peanut Butter Soup w/ fish and fufu (A9) - Waakye (C7) - A side of okra and greens When I tell you I was IN HEAVEN from the first bite!! My mom and I shared our food and it was bursting with flavor with each bite taken. Everything was well seasoned, authentic, and highly aromatic. Great service as well! Highly recommend this restaurant, we'll definitely be back!

The area where this place is located is a bit sketchy but it did not stop me from going to Afrikiko. When i walked in, I was not greeted in a friendly manner. However, once I placed my order the owner gave me a smile and asked if I was Ghanaian. Side note, I love Ghanaian food and eat it often when i travel for work. So i pretty much know what and how the food looks. I ordered light soup ( Goat pepper soup) with FuFu and Kenkey w/ Fish. The goat soup had a lot more portions of meat than the other places I've been to but it lacked the authentic flavor. I was disappointed about that. The kenkey and Fish was a bit of a disappointment as well. The fish felt and tasted rubbery. I could tell it was not freshly fried and the Shito( hot pepper sauce) was not hot enough for my taste buds.

I tried to give the restaurant a chance to make things right by calling them. Instead of addressing my concerns, I was told they were busy and to call back in a few hours. That was frustrating, especially after spending $40 on a meal and an appetizer. Overall, the small portions, poor quality steak, incorrect order, and lack of immediate customer service made this one of the worst dining experiences I've had. Unfortunately, I won't be returning, and I can't recommend this restaurant based on my experience.

Overall, I found the food to be very flavorful, well seasoned, and unique. My daughter and I actually ended up liking each other's meals more than our own, so we switched plates, which worked out well. We also ordered a few extra items, including wings and yams. The pounded yam was interesting and very different from anything I usually eat. It is probably not something I would go out of my way to order again, but I am glad I tried it and now understand a little better how it is eaten. The one disappointing part of the visit was the ordering experience. The young man who rang us up was polite, but he was unable to make any recommendations. He said he had been working there for about three months and still could not really suggest what to order. For someone like me, who is unfamiliar with this type of food, recommendations would have been very helpful. I would have appreciated some guidance on the most popular dishes, common choices, or what first-time customers usually enjoy. That said, the owner was extremely kind. She came out to our table, spoke with us, and helped explain how to eat some of the food we had ordered. I really appreciated that. She came across as a very sweet person, and based on her hospitality alone, I would come back to support the business. This style of food may not personally be my cup of tea or something I will crave often, but I respect the flavor, the care, and the local business behind it. I would give Bantu House four stars. It could have been closer to 3.5 for me personally, mostly because of the lack of ordering guidance, but the owner's kindness and the quality of the food pushed it to four.
