Disclaimer: I am not a sushi aficionado--the best I do are California Rolls. I went there for dinner tonight after a disappointing visit a couple months back. Unfortunately, I was disappointed again. I usually get the Teriyaki Beef Bento. In my last visit, the teriyaki sauce was this thick, awful tasting sauce that tasted nothing like teriyaki sauce. There was no sweetness at all. Perhaps something went wrong, so I gave them another chance tonight. Sadly, I won't be back. The sauce was still thick and had a sourness to it that was not pleasant at all. I can make better teriyaki sauce than this. And while I don't do much more than California Rolls, they weren't rolled very well either. I ended up with California Clumps instead of rolls. It appears that you get better service (and food) when you sit at the bar and order sushi only. If that's the case, then great. I'll find somewhere else. Its unfortunate, because I really liked this restaurant. read more

So f'ing rude! We just tried calling here trying to place an order, and the man on the phone was SO RUDE. We were told that it was super busy and would have to wait about an hour for our order, which we said was okay and that we'd wait. And then we started to place our order and the guy said in the rudest tone "if you guys order more food then you're going to have to wait longer" we told him that if he didn't want our business, he should have just said so. We had already told him we were willing to wait. They should really work on their customer service bc I and the 3 other people in our household have now been so turned off by this. Arigato sushi - Walking into this place there wasn't many people which I love it was around 5ish 6ish on a weekday and we were able to sit anywhere we liked. I received the menu and I noticed that they had really good prices on all their food and beverage . I got the teriyaki chicken box and it comes with a miso soup and a mini little salad the salad was good the miso soup was too salty I didn't like it. Then we received the box and it looked good big the chicken was good, rice was good, salad good as well however the ginger didn't really taste that strong or good and the wasabi wasn't strong at all, the sushi was good but it fell apart to easily I thought in general the box was good it was only $8 something and I Had to get a drink because in order to use ur card you have to spent more than $10 dollars at least so I got a wine. Service was on point. Mikayla was super friendly and attentive. We came on a mellow Friday. I wish the atmosphere and music were a little more up beat but it's cool. I got aloha roll, bf got the Baked lobster roll. And order of albacore sushi. The sumi salad was so good I ordered another. It comes with the specialty rolls as well as miso soup. So we look through here & see that fellow Yelper Felicia mentioned that they had AYCE, so we decided it was close to home and went for it. We walked in, followed by 3 other people. The place was full, except for 4 tables. There were 2 young waiters running around. Nobody acknowledged us, even though we were just standing there. Nobody acknowledged the 3-member family behind us, either. Well, I mean, the cook did see us but that's about it. So 5 minutes later, we're still all just standing there. I look back at the family, and they look at us and raise their eyebrows. I tell my boyfriend to just go because we're clearly never going to even get a hello. FINALLY, the waitress mumbles something about seating us soon, and so we tell her that it's just for 2 people. She then comes up to us (omg she FINALLY saw us?!) and says "wait, you're not a party of 5? I was going to seat you together! How embarrassing!" She then covered her face with the menus. So I said that she could have avoided that by asking us how many we had in our party, or at least have acknowledged us. Then the waiter cleaned a table for us and we sat down. We looked at the menu, but saw no AYCE. He brought us water and wanted to take our order right off the bat. I asked if they had AYCE and he said no and walked away. So we came back on Yelp and looked up other sushi bars and left. Bad service, short staffed...but the food didn't look too bad. Guess I will never know. read more

The fish smelled bad. I have never been to a sushi restaurant where the food was inedible. I spent almost $60 for two rolls and 5'orders nigiri and was only able to eat the yellow tail nigiri. I work long hard hours hence me ordering food and if the fish is usually like this I understand why the restaurant wasn't packed on a Friday night. I called the owner and chef and told him I would like a refund for the food I didn't eat. I didn't mind paying for the yellowtail nigiri because I'm not trying to get anything for free. He told me he used high grade sushi and that may be true but this fish smells old. I have been eating sushi for years and have never been served anything like this. I don't want to write anyone off because I understand that mistakes happen, but the fact the owner is unwilling to refund my money for the uneaten portion of this bad fish is unacceptable. He offered a credit but once I have bad food especially raw fish I no longer desire to eat at Arigato Sushi in Upland. Also I left a one star because no stars isn't an option. read more

This is the best sushi place in upland. The owner Shawn is 100% dedicated to his work and making sure the customer is happy when he leaves the establishment. The freshest seafood and makes the food with love. The salads are the best more than you can eat in one sitting. I highly recommend this restaurant. The staff is super friendly especially Kristen. I had high hopes. We were seated during the lunch hour right when they opened. The floors were dirty and there were stacks of dirty dishes (from the night before) where we saw our food getting prepared, the miso was not at the right temperature (bad sign). Their combo plates are way too large. The chicken Terri is so thin it was dry. The nigiri that came with our combos did not look shiny or freshly prepared. They had this "matte" dry look to it as if it had been in the fridge for a long while. Not sure why because the owner/chef appeared to be busy. Tempura was good, baked mussels were good. The nigiri and hand rolls needed help. Won't return. My wife lost her appetite after seeing the place was so filthy...and we were the first ones there. read more

Food was pretty decent, the service sucked. **Disclaimer** I'm pregnant so my food review is not based on the quality of sushi. Came in on a Tuesday at 1:30pm. There was a few people at the sushi bar and me on my table. I waited what seemed like an eternity to order. More like 15 min but felt like an hour because again I'm pregnant and was starving. The waitress was too busy talking to the sushi chef and the customers at the bar. I even watched her refill their drinks and get back on her phone behind the register. When she finally came to take my order it was rushed and she didn't write it down because she had stuff in her hands as she left the sushi bar with dirty dishes and saw me sitting there looking like a starving homeless person waiting to order. I order a garden salad, cucumber roll, and two salmon skin hand rolls. Again, I feel like it took FOREVER to get my food. Sushi chef was also engaged in conversation with customers at the sushi bar so I feel like he was distracted. I also didn't feel like the waitress was very friendly either. I gave plenty of thank you's with not many your welcomes. Once I get my food I pretty much scarfed it down but was rarely checked on. It even took a cool minute to get my bill. My family frequents Arigato Sushi on a regular basis. The food is delicious but the service is sometimes mediocre. On numerous occasions, I've had to ask the server for our drinks and if we can order. One time, I waited about 10 minutes before I said anything to the waitress. She walked by us about 15 times and not once asked us what we wanted to drink or to take our order. She should probably consider another career outside waitressing. Yikes. She was terrible. Since, they've hired some other waiters that are MUCH more attentive. They are friendly and take your drink order quicker than before. My big concern is that it seems that this place can't handle a lot of people. They start to panic when there are at least 10 people in the restaurant. Ordered some food to go and the wait was going to be 40 minutes! My order should not have taken that long for the amount of people in that restaurant. I walked in and there were at least 10 people in the entire restaurant. They must consider that busy because the waiter sounded stressed on the phone. I went here for lunch with two of my colleagues. I ordered the Bento plate. It included: salad, miso soup, coleslaw, tempura, & 4 pieces of sushi. The food tasty and was well priced. I had the chance to finally eat here, after hearing about how good it was from my friends, Kimberly S and Bill W. Also, my parents really like going here as well. But for me, it was just okay, which I hate to say. I had a bento dinner, with chicken teriyaki and tempura, California roll, rice and salad for under $10. It was pretty good, but not good enough for me to make a special drive to this place. I admit that Kimberly said that sushi is this place's strong suit, and I really didn't have sushi (I don't consider rolls to be a true indicator of a sushi bar's quality of fish), so to be fair, I need to make another visit and give it a try. As Kimberly described, the service was pretty good, and they are still in the midst of the remodel, so just be aware of it. read more

I've been here easily 20+ times since I've moved away from the area. My father is a regular here (at least once a week) and turned me on to Arigato a couple years ago. Every time I walk in I'm welcomed with a great greeting from Sean, Jeff and the rest of the staff. Service is attentive and if requested they will whip you a surprise off-the-menu appetizer (I love the spicy tuna nachos and baked mussels). They have something for everyone (even the none sushi eater). Personally I love their lobster rolls, albacore rolls, and bento plates (beef and chicken). Better yet they are willing to work with you if you ask to substitute some items in the bento plate. Conclusion: Great food, good portion sizes, inviting atmosphere and the price is right... Now just waiting from them to get their liquor license. read more

Confused at the 4 star rating on Yelp (could it be the only Japanese restaurant around???) because my experience here was probably one of the worst restaurant experiences. The owner is losing lots of money hiring such shitty staff to "manage" the place. Case in point: - stopped by here for a late Friday afternoon lunch, and saw that I am the only customer. Which is fine, but the staff were so relaxed and chatting among themselves and very, very sarcastic and rude with me. - didn't get any water nor the sides to my meal until I had to ask 2 times. When soup was brought out, no spoon. Asked again and the server yells across the room to sushi chef guy " I don't think she is dying! I'll get her a spoon". I am hearing all of this said in front of me and the service was pretty much non existent. I felt very uncomfortable the whole time. - derogatory comments exchanged among this shitty staff who appears not working. While one of the servers ( the guy with the bun hair) is complaining about his school work while texting on his phone, another is eating off a meal at the bar and discussing out loud how they are not into dating black women. NOT APPROPRIATE. - food was mediocre. Service sucked. The open locker room style conversations between the staff said out loud in front of me, combined with the sarcastic jokes said about me and towards me, made me feel uncomfortable, unsafe, and wanting to throw a punch at this staff. So unprofessional. - FYI, if I were the owner and saw this go down, I'd totally fire the dude with the glasses and hair bun- he definitely ruined it for me and encouraged others to participate in not working. The Mister and I were pleased to see that business is going so well that they've expanded ... their dining room is now more than twice the size and they have a small stage area set up for live music. Not too shabby. The food and sushi is good, not sensational, but fresh and substantial. After reading all the great reviews on yelp my family and i decided to give this place a shot. We ordered food to go over the phone which wasn't the bad part. First off when i went to pick up my order one of the workers ignored me until i finally said I'm here to pick up my order. He shrugged his shoulders and said cool!. I waited 10 more mins until he finally helped me. Once i got the food home everyone served themselves and maybe an hour later everyone felt nauseous. 3 of my family members including myself were up all night with diarrhea. I will never eat here again the food was disgusting and the service horrible. Anyone thinking of trying this place should go somewhere else. read more

My pop found this place by his house and it has now become our spot for sushi. @ Foothill and Euclid in the shopping center on the southwest corner. Appetizers: -Seared Ahi is really good nice Cajun seasoning on the outer edge, -they have these sushi nachos which are a bit addicting only downside is there are never enough on the plate. Rolls There is a calamari roll that is crazy good. The breading they use on their calamari is different then any other I've tasted and its soooo good. Lots of good rolls to try. Yum !!where do I start!! I recently moved from San Francisco to Upland. After a long day of decorating my place, I worked up a man sized hunger for sushi. so I set out on my maiden voyage to Arigato Sushi. Upon entering the establishment I was greeted by handsome long haired young man who quickly got me seated. He was super attentive and did I mention handsome? Anyway, I ordered a rainbow roll and a spicy tuna roll. The sushi came out quick and was fresh and delicious. Even better, the prices were great! They've expanded so its a lot nicer inside the place than before. One thing they have that not alot of sushi places have these days; stability. I think the same people own it that were here in '06. The food is served in generous portions and the sushi is pretty good. The chefs are nice and I've never had a bad waitress here. The whole experience is usually pretty good.
