Katshu Chicken Bowl Build Your Own Set - Build Your Own Set -

Just tried Secret Sauce and I'm OBSESSED My go-to order is the Chicken Katsu plate -- it comes with veggies , a house salad , fruit , AND their pear sauce + a side of miso soup The chicken katsu is always perfectly crispy like actually 10/10 crunch every time And the pear sauce?? It lowkey reminds me of yellow Thai curry and it's SO GOOD They also give sauce samples which I love -- today I tried basil , sweet chili , and spirulina Everything is cooked fresh to order ‍ so I definitely recommend ordering online and picking up if you don't want to wait If you're in the area... you NEED to try this spot

The food here was good, the portion sizes were generous, and the pricing was good. Lots of options to build what you like.

Food is always delicious here, they never dissapoint. The service is top notch. I love their basil sauce. Their orange sauce mixed with their spicy sauce is pretty good too. My husband LOVES their tonkatsu sauce you can always get sample sauces to experiment with.

Walking in to some nice pop tunes, warm and bright. The lady who took my order was so nice and appreciative... She greeted me with a smile and gave me the run down of the menu. I ordered the Pork Katsu plate with Rice, Veggies and a macaroni salad on the side. She he plate comes with a miso soup that's complimentary. The sauce I had to go with is called "Crazy Spicy" and though it was crazy, it was tasty. Pork Katsu 8.9 / 10 fried to perfection, juicy and went well with the sauce. Miso Soup 8.5 / 10 standard but a bit on the saltier side which I liked. Mac Salad 5 / 10 now it's not that it wasn't good at all, I just don't do apples and raisins in my Mac salad, not a sweet guy. Veggies, Rice, Salad 7 / 10 standard items, good dressing All in all, I had a great experience, and a place I will be beach for something nice, quick and had the staple items. Meat, Carbs, Greens

Katsu rice bowl with Japanese curry

4.5 stars. This is a small hole in the wall place with pretty good katsu. I got the katsu rice bowl with Japanese curry and my bf got the build your own with katsu, rice, Mac salad, and house salad with Japanese curry. Both came with miso soup that had good flavor. The katsu rice bowl is a fantastic deal. It's so hard to find a decent meal under $15 nowadays. The rice bowl had plenty of rice and TWO pieces of cutlet. The japanese curry was tasty and you can see all the pieces of onion. The service was solid, the woman was very kind and we were asked how things tasted even though it was a quick order-at-the-front-and-go type of place. Glad we dined in as we got to try a few of the different sauces that are offered. When we come back, I'm getting the basil sauce for sure.

Good value for the price! My husband and I shared one meal. Not necessarily something we will come back to again and again, but definitely a nice quick, healthier, cheaper option than normal eating out.

1st timer, wouldn't be my last, the food is so good, place is clean, and price is fair.

I placed an order for pick up and I was running a bit late. Despite being late and traveling home, the katsu chicken stayed sooooooo nice and crispy!!! I was super impressed! I got the customizable plate with a rice base, chicken katsu, Japanese curry, house salad, and macaroni salad. I also got a side of extra sauce in a big cup and an order of fried tofu that also came with a side and I picked Japanese curry again. It was a lot of food and came up to 30 dollars, which is ok because it can last me about 2 to 3 meals since the chicken katsu came with two fillets!! To start off, the rice was so fresh which is not something I see a lot at quick service restaurants so I was very happy about that. Next, the chicken was super juicy and crispy at the same time. I also liked that the chicken didn't have any hard or squishy parts, like a lot of other places that sell katsu chicken do. Curry was the best part and it was extremely flavorful. Lastly, the place is super cute and cozy. Staff was welcoming, and would be a nice spot for a quick lunch. Overall totally loved it and will be going back often.

Katsu chicken, udon noodles, house salad, Mac salad & Japanese curry sauce

Wow wow wow is all I can say. Where do I even begin.. I ordered the plate with the katsu chicken, udon noodles, house salad, Mac salad & the Japanese curry for sauce. Hubby ordered the plate with tofu, udon noodles, house salad, Mac salad & the tonkatsu for sauce My son had the katsu with udon noodles bowl & the teriyaki for sauce Me and hubby got the donuts with dip to share The food was AMAZING! I love that me, my son and my vegan hubby all have something to enjoy here the donuts were soooooo good too!! You can tell they're made fresh & the dip goes so well with them. All the food was a hit here! The vibes, energy & layout of the restaurant is so nice & well decorated All that said, the highlight of my review definitely goes to the family that was working. I didn't get a chance to get their names but they were so so nice, helpful and even gave us a complimentary green tea as well as different sauces on the side to try out (all were delicious! ). Their daughter was there and was the sweetest. Our son was getting fussy and she tried to make him smile/laugh. I believe they own the establishment which makes their sincerity & amazing customer service that much more appreciated especially as they were working on a holiday We had an amazing first time experience here and will definitely be returning Thank you guys so much!

Great place I discovered in upland next to sprouts! This isn't the biggest place, but there are some seats inside if you do want to dine in. What I like about it is that they make it simple, you order a base, a protein, you order a sauce and it is $15 just like that. The katsu was crispy and the beef was tender. The macaroni was made different, and wasn't just packed with mayo, so it was quite good. If you are looking for katsu in this area this place should fit the bill. Until next time.

I was finally able to check out this place for lunch. The lady who took my order was very friendly. It's a small and clean place with a few tables, if you decide to eat there. I opted for the "Build your own plate" and chose rice, chicken katsu and house salad. It also came with miso soup. The portion is large, plenty of chicken, crunchy breading, fresh salad. Price was $15, which is okay given the good portion size. Would definitely go back.

Came across this little hole in the wall joint on Yelp. Upon walking in, I was greeted by a lady (possibly one of the owners?). She explained the menu to me, which was kind of self explanatory. I ordered the plate set which comes with miso soup. You can choose your base, which I chose rice. For my protein, I ordered chicken katsu. For my sauce I asked what she would recommend, and she recommended the tonkatsu sauce. And she said I can get one more if I'd like to try, so I ordered the teriyaki sauce. For my 2 salads, I ordered the macaroni & house salad. As I got home to enjoy my food, I went to eat the miso soup first. When I took off the lid, the smell didn't really sit well with me. It had a fishy smell to it (I know there's seaweed in it but it smelt too fishy for just having seaweed). The portion of food did make up for the rating I'm giving. Everything on the plate was delicious. I do wish there was more dressing for the house salad, but i enjoyed the salad. Didn't really care for the tonkatsu sauce as it was a little strong for my liking. The restaurant was pretty empty but it seats a fair amount of people.

Japanese Curry Sauce spilled in haste while devouring delicious Chicken Katsu
    Robert G.

On Saturday afternoon I had a fantastic Chicken Katsu bowl. $10 is a steal in California for this volume. The rice did not taste hours old like at most restaurants. The music is played at low volume. Pear Curry Sauce was interesting. The standard Japanese Curry Sauce was actually my favorite for a substantial flavor. The Pear was perhaps second. Can't believe the woman here taking orders today and cleaning the tables. Very pleasant, kind, efficient, like she's from another galaxy where we are not worthy to reside. Best new restaurant for me in a long time. I ate so fast that I only have a photo of curry sauce I dripped.

We decided to share the beef cutlet combo and the rice pot with soy sauce pork. I've had the beef cutlet combo before, and I was happy to see that the quality was still just as good as I remembered. This time, it was also my first time trying the rice pot dish, and I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The portion was generous and the flavor was very nice. The service was also very attentive throughout the meal. The servers regularly checked in and made sure to refill the fire gel for the hot stone grill whenever it started going out, which I appreciated. Overall, it was a solid meal and a place I'd definitely come back to again.

This was the closest one to us, and it definitely lived up to what I was expecting. I tried their new Bolognese udon, and it did not disappoint. It had a really rich, savory tomato flavor that paired surprisingly well with the chewy udon noodles. It's a little different from the usual udon dishes, but that's what made it stand out. I would definitely get it again, especially since udon is one of my favorite types of noodles. My friends got the Nikutama udon, which was also really good. You can tell the udon is freshly made, with that perfect chewy texture. We also grabbed some of their tempura sides, and they were crispy, light, and super satisfying. The workers were really nice, and the whole setup runs pretty smoothly even when it gets busy. The space itself is pretty spacious with lots of seating, so it's great for groups. The nikutama udon was only warm rather than hot, and the broth tasted overly salty with a slight sweetness. I added green onions and flakes, but the flakes quickly became soggy in the soup. I also ordered crispy katsu, which was actually quite fresh and tender, and helped give an extra star. I also tried a battered chickenc tempura shrimp, and battered sausage that was cold and seems left out for a while. I can't say the meal was enjoyable.

Sizzling plates used to be THE big thing in the early and mid 2000s with lots of boba places having them as as specialty (RIP Coffee Break and MJ's Tea House), but now aside from a handful of businesses and Pepper Lunch, they're much more rare. Glad that the IE has Sizzlin' Place as one of their sizzling plate heavy hitters. Aside from the sizzling plates, they have other menu items including fried appetizers, soup and dried noodles, and sides like fries and takoyaki, but if you're going to a sizzling plate place, you gotta get a sizzling plate, you know? That's decorum. Service is welcoming and friendly, and efficient in the safest way possible with the scorching hot plates. Seating can get limited due to the nature of the meal, but I've never had an issues the times I chose to eat here. Ambiance can be relaxed and chill when the Haven City Market isn't busy, but during weekends or rush hour, it can get a bit hectic and there may be a bit of a wait. A staple that you can never go wrong with is the hot plate beef and if you're a carnivore or if you're sharing, you have to upsize and upgrade it. The slices of beef here are just slightly thicker than what I'm used to at Pepper Lunch, but that just means it'll shrink less and get less stuck on the hot plate as well. You get a hearty serving of rice with some corn on top, pepper, and green onions. Like other sizzling plate places, you can always get pasta or udon instead of rice, if you're feeling a bit more adventurous. Super hot, filling meal that's easy to eat. Not the most flavorful sometimes, at least with what I order, and in comparison to other competitors, but hits the spot when need be.
