Yum !!where do I start!! I recently moved from San Francisco to Upland. After a long day of decorating my place, I worked up a man sized hunger for sushi. so I set out on my maiden voyage to Arigato Sushi. Upon entering the establishment I was greeted by handsome long haired young man who quickly got me seated. He was super attentive and did I mention handsome? Anyway, I ordered a rainbow roll and a spicy tuna roll. The sushi came out quick and was fresh and delicious. Even better, the prices were great! They've expanded so its a lot nicer inside the place than before. One thing they have that not alot of sushi places have these days; stability. I think the same people own it that were here in '06. The food is served in generous portions and the sushi is pretty good. The chefs are nice and I've never had a bad waitress here. The whole experience is usually pretty good. 05/09/2016 After wok craving sushi, checked Yelp and lead me to Arigato Sushi. I was greeted with "whats up" and big smiles....different but I liked it. I ordered number 54 and my daughter ordered the chicken teriyaki plate/box (forgot name), prices were very affordable. The food arrives in a timely manner....wow!!!!! the food looked great and it tasted absolutely delicious. My daughter is a picky eater, to my surprise she ate her entire meal, as I did. I truly recommend this place and I will return SOON, very SOON. Yummy! read more

Ok, I have PROS & CONS about this place... Let's start with the GOOD STUFF: 1.) The servers are super sweet 2.) The baked mussels are to die for 3.) It's NEVER crowded 4.) The customers are really friendly 5.) The service is pretty quick. NOW the NOT SO GOOD STUFF: 1.) The cooks NEVER greet you when you walk in like at other sushi joints IF you aren't a "REGULAR" but that SHOULDN'T matter.. If they do greet you, it's sullen and lazy, like they don't want to. We've been 4 times, and he's NEVER crowded enough to forget our group or ANYONE else. 2.) The last time we went our Baked Salmon roll fell completely apart, they stuck to the foil they baked it in, so it was a big DISASTER. 3.) Sometimes the Baked Lobster rolls are a little greasy. 4.) The servers as swwet as they are, know NOTHING about the wines or Beers. You CAN'T sell me on an "I don't know" OR I'm not sure" 5.) They never bring extra plates to the table and lastly, which is my biggest reiterated "THE COOKS NEVER GREET YOU". So, as much as I LOVE the Baked Mussels I find better service and food @ OKAWA in Rancho Cucamonga, and although I live 4 blocks from Arigato, I won't go back to a restaurant who doesn't give the same GREETINGS, RESPECT and APPRECIATION to EVERYONE whether it be their FIRST visit or their MILLIONTH. I've been coming to arigato for years and I have to say it's my favorite sushi spot. Everything is made fresh and the quality of the food is exceptional. Prices are great and they have the best chicken teriyaki plate on the planet. Highly recommended this place to any sushi lover. read more

Love this place too! I've lived in this valley most of my life. There is no better sushi in Upland period! The staff rocks. I've heard some bad reviews about the guy with the bun.. Lmao. Yea he's acquired taste and part of the charm! The staff rocks but it's a small family like crew. They get slammed with too many customers sometimes I've seen it. They still work super hard. They rock! They're really fun people. I have had a blast closing this place talking with the staff! The owner Sean is one of the friendliest sushi chefs EVER. YES EVER PEOPLE! Very reasonable prices for a good amount of delicious food! The bento boxes are yummy and cheap, and food comes with miso soup and a salad (maybe only around lunch time). We had the potstickers (only 4.50 for 6 pieces!), a chicken katsu bento box, and the Tiger roll. read more

Haven't been here in awhile but their sashimi salad drsg wasn't the same..still had that sesame taste but my taste buds don't agree with it this time and fish didn't taste as fresh i also got the Washington roll with soy paper..it is simple raw salmon outside wit cali roll inside..sushi rice inconsistent too dry in some areas of the Washington roll. I will give them another chance cause maybe it was just the lunch rush?... My lunch cost for sashimi salad n roll were $23. Not bad but not good either cause my tummy wasn't as happy as before. DO NOT MISS GOING TO ARIGATO! We were looking for a new sushi place in town and thought we'd try Arigato. We ended up having one of the best sushi meals we've had in LA. Shawn, the owner/sushi chef, is amicable and creative. The fish is fresh and high quality. Almost everything we tried was amazing and there is no doubt at all we'll become regulars. The sushi was really good but I could only give 4 stars because like the other reviews have said.. the service is SO extremely slow. Came the other night and I swear it was 15+ minutes before we were greeted and maybe close to 30 more before we got our food. I think maybe they only have one of each staff member? I think there was only one server and one chef. (Although the server we did have was great, he must have been super stressed but he was really nice and polite every time he did come over). This place was AMAZING!! I was a little worried at first because they opened a few minutes late. But once we were seated...wow! I wish I had gotten the chef and server's names. Overall good food good service. Started out a little slow, only a few people in the restaurant with only one server but he did the best he could. The prices were good for both drinks and sushi. We had 3 rolls and round of sake and beers and our bill was less then $50. Like I said overall great place to eat. Definitely will be our new sushi spot. read more

My wife and I have done some traveling and have enjoyed an array of sushi, but Sean is up to par with the "internationally recognized sushi shokunin". Let us imagine, a Korean Sushi Chef, in an all white Restaurant, in a town of Red MAGs., and he's giggling at the subtle racist rant, meant to demean him; "what you got there, a Samurai sword?" says a Caucasian gentleman to him. He laughs, pointing his attention to the Sushi Roll he's working on. And while this is all happening, in comes a dark Mexican. He's an old guy, with whiskers, a 20 year resident of the community. "So, what do your recommend?" He asks. "Nothing!" The Sushi Chef blurts. "I recommend nothing." Rather than taking offense, the old man, looks down, orders a beer. "Can I have a beer while I wait?" He asks. No response from the Chef. The waitress, noticing the friction, offers service. Racism is ignorance, and as we, all too well, many are plagued with it. Even those who have, historically, been treated, as second class citizens, like Koreans, Mexicans, Blacks, anyone, who is non-white. So the old man, having lived, acquired wisdom from the long lived lessons of racism, ignored this. The sushi was good. For two months, the old man orders takeout from Arigato. Always, 70-90 dollars. The old man, doesn't have a problem with money. Today, he sends his son to pick up an order. His son is heavy set, dark skinned, Mexican American boy. He looks like his father. And while he is a chemist by profession, he may appear to be a "poor Mexican" by a white racist. His individual appearance is usually disheveled, unmanaged long black hair. Hey, he's a Mellennial. And so, he was treated by the chef, in an unprofessional way. A demeaning way. A "snap at you," way. It's obvious, the Chef, the crowd there, doesn't want the old mans son there. When my son walks into my house today, he said, with being promoted; "Dad, why the hell didn't you tell that place is full of racist employees. No more Arigato. I recommend a firing of that Chef. And I'd he is the owner. I recommend therapy. read more

Arigato Sushi is my go to sushi restaurant. The quality and variety of fresh fish offered is unlike any other sushi restaurant around. This is NOT an AYCE strictly because of the craftsmanship and heart put into providing the customer with the best products readily available. Hats off to the chef and staff as they treat you like a regular no matter how much time passes and still remember "my usual" order. This is our favorite sushi place. The owner always remembers our names and our favorite dishes.... he knows how to treat his customers. from the moment we walk in, greets us with a smile and a hello. The staff is always friendly and fish is very fresh. and I AM veeeery picky with my food, (the owner can attest to this) he has gone above and beyond to appease me - even making my beloved catapillar roll exactly the way i like it....even if it is a bit harder to make.
