This is one of those rare reviews that has no photo. For those in SoCal who are familiar with Souplantation, and miss it after they shut down, Soup n Fresh has come to fill the void. For those who haven't experienced it before, it's an AYCE salad bar, soups, and other prepared foods. They have two locations. One is in Chino, the other here and Rancho Cucamonga. This location is wildly popular and the line never dies down until they close. We came in the middle of an afternoon on Sunday and it was still at least a 30 minute wait. Their system is very efficient. A staff will let a limited amount of people in at a time to keep the salad bar line clear and moving smoothly. In between groups of people that are let in, the ones behind the counter will restock items that are low and wipe down the counters. That makes the place look clean all the time. Once you enter, grab a plate or two and a tray and create your own salad. They have many types of veggies with several types of dressings. Then you'll pay at the end of the line at the cashier station. They also have about 4 to 5 different types of soups, few types of muffins, baked potatoes, fresh cut, fruit, and a few other items. Soup n Fresh is a total nostalgic place for me because the last time I went to a place like this was before the pandemic of 2020, and everything tasted just like Souplantation, from the clam chowder to their ranch dressing. The experience brought back a lot of memories when I used to run into friends all the time. I hope they will open more locations towards San Gabriel Valley area. read more

Came back again and they have huge lines and an hour wait still, but they are more organized in that they only let small groups in at a time so it's no longer crowded on the inside. All the salad ingredients and the soups are delicious and fresh. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is due to the miserably uncomfortable metal chairs with zero back support. read more

Stopped in for lunch today with my wife. I hear there's usually lines, but must have beat the crowd. Started down the salad bar line. Everything was VERY fresh! Great selection and everything was very clean. Was greeted by the cashier, who was very nice. Paid and found a booth. I visited the soup area, which had a great selection of soups, and three types of pasta. Everything looked good. The bakery section had some muffin choices, breads, pizza, and baked potatoes. I've been wanting to try this out for the nostalgia of Souplantation and was especially excited for the cornbread and whipped honey butter that I used to really like. Setup and menu items are pretty much identical. You have your long salad bar to start, then a soup section, the baked goods area, and the middle with your random assortment of fruits, ice cream, drinks, etc. Salad options were as good as I remembered them to be. I think they might've changed the noodles in the chicken noodle soup, as well as the potatoes in the clam chowder because I don't remember them tasting that way but it's also been a really long time. Tasted pretty standard though. Was honestly disappointed in the baked goods items though. Cornbread and whipped honey butter did not hit the same and was pretty dry/bland, as with the brownies and blueberry muffins. The cheese bread was the best baked item for me. Ice cream was definitely nostalgic. Overall, a fair experience for the nostalgia. Didn't hit quite like it used to but may come back later at some point to try again. Everything was pretty solid but as an avid souplantation person, for some reason it didn't hit the same. All the components were there though, the classic clam chowder, chicken noodle soup, pizza bread, pastas, salad bar. All good! We did notice that the muffins (corn, blueberry & chocolate were a bit dry). But everything else was very solid! All were well done but the recipes did taste a little different. Who does not miss Souplantation?! I heard Soup 'n Fresh opened and I had to stop by. Upon stepping in, I was transported back in time. It is exactly the same. Parking was difficult to find and it was a full house during lunch time. Price was around $16.99 per adult and fountain drink was about $3 ish. With tax it is over $20 per adult. The layout is the same. Grab the tray, get the salad, pay, find a seat, go back and get some bread and soup. Or course I went back to try all the soups they offered. This place is just like Souplantation from back in the day. It's a self serve buffet of soups and salads. You go in and get yourself a plate and walk down the lane and gather your salads, veggies, pastas, soups and baked potatoes. Then you go pay and then find yourself a seat and enjoy your food. The highlights for me was the chicken noodle soup, clam chowder, cheese pizza and Chinese chicken salad with corn, peas and egg whites and honey mustard dressing. Every time I leave the table for refills my plates are removed from the table so that's nice to come back to a clean table. The place is clean but seats are not as comfortable. My husband and I came here on a trip to big bear. As huge fans of souplantation when it was open, we loved soup n fresh. The nostalgia of feeling like we were back in 2018 eating at souplantation when we were dating was such a nice feeling. They have a lot of similar dishes, the salad bar doesn't have as much options as souplantation does but I cannot complain about soup n fresh at all. Everything was delicious. I remember Sweet Tomato in NorCal, and Souplantation in SoCal. Now Soup 'n Fresh is bringing everyone together for a nostalgic experience. The set up and layout is pretty much identical. Build your own salad bar, pay, be seated, then eat or grab more food! I always grab more food before I start eating. Baked potatoes, pizza slices, small muffins, honey butter, pasta, an assortment of soups to choose from (my favorite part), plenty of toppings (shredded cheese, sour cream, butter, green onions, tortilla chips, and soup & oyster crackers + more) fruits, dessert, soft serve....it's all there. Finally went to check this place out this morning, hoping Superbowl Sunday would be less busy! Got there right at opening at 10:30am and there was already a line, but made it inside only 15 minutes later so not too bad (I've seen other people had to wait up to 40 minutes at opening). The Souplantation vibes right off the bat were perfect. The salad bar was almost identical. It was missing a few items, but had everything else down to the tuna taragon (which they perfectly replicated on taste) and wonton chicken salad (this unfortunately wasn't quite the same. it was missing the dressing and was much more muted in flavor. a bit bland). They had almost all of the same soups and pastas. The chili was good. The broccoli cheddar was coagulated and wouldn't recommend. The coveted chicken noodle tasted the same, however didn't have those THICK Souplantation noodles. Still good! The pizza bread, delicious. Cornbread was good. The blueberry muffins were good but a little muted in flavor as well. They tasted almost the same, but just not quite full flavor as Souplantation. Whipped honey butter still amazing! The ice cream was still yummy. They didn't have any toppings at this location though! No sprinkles or Oreo crumbs. And they had full size cones instead of the mini. Overall, a good experience! Our 2nd time back in a year. If you have that Souplantation or Sweet Tomatoes craving, go to Soup n Frensh when you're visiting Rancho Cucamonga area. Everything at Soup n Fresh is what was Souplantation. There's the clam chowder, chicken noodle soup, same fresh salad ingredients with most of the same dressings. The muffins taste the same but they're all rectangular shaped like how the chocolate ones were. There are baked potatoes and sweet potatoes next to the muffins, pizzas, and cornbread Desserts are still boring (jello, pineapple, pudding). Soft serve is ice milk which isn't our fave and we don't usually eat it. The soup selection is good and some different types (posole, bone broth chicken noodle soup to name a couple) . Service is great. When we were paying, we had seniors for senior pricing and coupons. The cashier was super smart in dividing our bill to give us the opportunity to get senior pricing and also use our coupons. (Thank you!!) The workers are constantly stopping by your table to remove the dishes off your table. I like that as it consistently gave our table room to go for 2nds or 3rds! The restaurant itself is pretty much set up exactly like how Souplantation/Sweet Tomatoes used to be. It is clean and super busy environment. Parent with kids letting them run wile, please watch your kids. I saw one child who almost ran into a parent w/a tray that had 4-5 bowls of soup. The day after I ate here, I woke up convinced the whole thing had been a dream: I couldn't believe I'd found a new restaurant that managed to almost perfectly recreate Souplantation!! As other reviews have mentioned, I felt like I'd stepped in a time machine and gone back to the simpler era of 2019. I didn't really read reviews ahead of time; I'd just heard that there was a Souplantation spinoff east of LA and was determined to check it out on my next trip up there from San Diego. I honestly wasn't expecting much when I showed up by myself at 2pm on a Sunday. I certainly wasn't expecting to have to wait in line for an hour before I could enter the restaurant. But I'd already driven an extra 45 minutes out of my way and wasn't about to give up. I also wasn't expecting an immaculate reproduction, from the exact items on the salad bar to the exact same soup bowls. As I looked around in awe, I saw menu items and details I'd even forgotten about. In my 31 years of life I had never had a dining experience quite like this! And the flavors were PERFECT - some items, like the cream of mushroom soup, tasted even better than I remembered. Also, the place was clean, despite being packed. I saw employees constantly cleaning: the food service areas, the tables, the bathrooms. The only thing that seemed slightly unsanitary to my post-Covid sensibilities was the coughing of people waiting in line outside. The actual restaurant was cleaner and calmer than I'd hoped. The only element they didn't 100% nail was dessert. It seemed like a bit of an afterthought. I couldn't find dessert bowls or spoons anywhere. There were no ice cream toppings (sprinkles, Oreo crumbles, or peanuts), Jello, or sugar-free chocolate mousse. I did appreciate the bottle of Tajin next to the fruit, something I don't recall seeing at Souplantation. And no one was walking around serving fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies. But I'm not complaining about these minor details! If you loved Souplantation or are even a little nostalgic for it, come check this out. The restaurant is sparkling clean and the whole setup brings back that comforting salad and soup buffet experience that's surprisingly hard to find these days. Came on 5:30pm Saturday. Wasn't really busy but it was WAYYY busier at 6:30pm. The food was better than what I remembered from Souplanation. Instead of bagged soups, it was tastier fresh made, with meat bones soup. Pastas were unexpectedly really good! Zucchini was my favorite vegetable, so crisp and fresh! Carrots were also really fresh too. My favorite soup was the Pozole! I never would have thought I would like something more than the Clam Chowder. There was pork bones and tons of hominy in there. I went back to the salad line to top the Pozole with some (red) cabbage. I dont remember Souplanation having this soup but glad its here. When it isnt really busy, the bakery is so thoughtful. There was a crispier pizza/cheese bread in the front. Gooey, softer breads in the back! During busy times, you dont see this at all. I really respect trying to give folks different textures. Differences with Souplanation: * Muffins are square shaped, no muffin top crispy bottoms any more! Dine on a variety of salad, soup, pasta, bread, and dessert selections in a buffet-style setting. From my understanding, there is usually a wait to enter, but we visited on a weekday prior to the lunch rush and were immediately granted access. The bussing staff is efficient and friendly, continually surveying the eating area and quickly clearing tables of used plates and debris. Similarly, the food service areas are well-maintained to ensure spills and garnish droppings/drippings are cleaned up quickly, as well. Prices are typical for a buffet - even if the selection is limited primarily to salads and soups. If seeking a wide variety of different main course proteins, this probably not the place for you; however, the salad ingredients, dressings, and soups available appear to be made with quality ingredients. A senior discount is also available for older folks. I probably wouldn't travel to Soup 'n Fresh again if not in the area (as it is several cities away - about a 20-minute drive by freeway), but I would love to see one open closer to my residence. You come in, get a plate of salad or two, pay for your entrance fee and a drink if you choose, and a staff member will help you find a table. Once you're seated, eat the salad, or you're free to roam and grab soups, pasta, potatoes, pizzas, muffins, fruits, and/or ice creams. The staff members we've encountered were all friendly and very prompt in greeting, seating, and clearing the table. Other patrons were also generally courteous. The dining experience inside is very nostalgic for Souplantation. My favorite soup was the cream of mushrooms. I tried the cheddar broccoli, house chili, and the clam chowder as well. Tip... put all greens on one plate and all toppings on another plate... it's one gigantic salad! You don't have to return for more LOL. Several dressings to choose from. I went with bone broth chicken noodle soup and cream of mushroom. Both were very good! Hot and tasty! Mac n cheese, spaghetti, and penne pasta (all with no meat) were available. I didn't get any because they were quite bland at the other location so I skipped them here. Garlic bread, cheese pizza, 3 kinds of corn breads, and french baguette were offered. I tried the chocolate corn bread, french baguette, and cheese pizza... they were decent. Dessert bar had limited fruits, jello, pudding, tapioca, granola, soft serve vanilla and chocolate, and a few other items. Got the vanilla soft serve with some toppings... it looked smooth, but it tasted slightly icy which I thought was weird. Not bad for a budget buffet, basically the exact same as a souplantation. When we came on a weekend lunch, this place was totally packed and we waited in line for about an hour. The whole format is the same where you get your plate of salad first, pay, and then they'll lead you to your seat where you can then get your soups, flatbreads, fruit, and ice cream. The salad bar was really clean and all the veggies were really good. I would recommend getting two plates of salad so you don't have to go back and get more. I kept loading up on the clam chowder since that was made pretty well. I also did enjoy the muffins with their whipped honey butter. Those who need to hit their protein goals, chicken noodle soup is probably the best option. The price came to be around $21 after tax, which I guess is not bad. I feel like this is more of a vegetarian's dream spot and seemed like people were basically dining here because it was nostalgic to relive their childhood memories. The only thing really different is the ice cream/yogurt quality is not as good as how souplantation used to be. This was more like an icey texture compared to what used to be creamy. It was $42 total after taxes for 2 people all you can eat with no drinks. They definitely have newer soda machines now, but I do not like how there is no tea bags out for people to pick their flavor. You have to ask the cashier which is very inconvenient. The quality of the soups was very good. We came on a Friday afternoon and everything was fully stocked and fresh. We arrived around 12pm on a Sunday and had to wait just about 50 minutes before we got inside. Lunch is $17.99 for adults and dinner is a few dollars more, which is quite reasonable. The salad bar has a good variety of options including salad mixes, various types of vegetables and salad toppings. The quality of the different ingredients were good and the buffet area was clean and well organized. I liked the layout of this location, as it was spacious, well-lit, and a pleasant environment. Beyond the salad bar, there's a number of soup options, a few pasta dishes, breads/pizzas, along with fruit, soft serve, and drinks. This wasn't our first time visiting, but I enjoyed the salad options along with the mac n cheese. The two soups I tried (beef chili and lentil with veggies) were lacking a bit in flavor, but still hearty and tasty. I didn't try any fruit or dessert this time, but was satisfied with the meal and overall value. Service was mostly attentive and alright, as the restaurant was quite busy with multiple large parties, but no complaints. Overall, a solid lunch spot for a good value and healthy meal with a variety of salads and soups. I'm not sure how the dinner options are, and would be curious to try it out in the future. Finally tried Soup and Fresh because yes... we all miss Souplantation and we're all chasing that salad bar nostalgia. The concept is identical. The same cafeteria-style flow. Grab your tray, load up on salads and hot items, then pay and find your seat. Even the menu and pricing structure feel very familiar. The only noticeable difference is the slightly updated color scheme. My wife and I waited about 30 minutes on a Saturday afternoon, which honestly isn't bad considering everyone else is also trying to relive 2020. Now let's talk taste. While everything looks like Souplantation, flavor-wise it's just a little off from the original. The cornbread (which I used to love) was a bit dry and not quite as sweet or moist as I remember. The soups were solid, not bad at all, but not "wow." My favorite chili soup didn't have that same deep, rich flavor the OG had. That said... it's still good. I'm very impressed with this place! We were wanting soups and salad, so we decided to drive out from Pasadena to try Soup 'n Fresh. Soup 'n Fresh is located in a large shopping mall, so parking was easy to find. We waited about 15-20 minutes in line before we got inside. The pricing is $17.99 per adult before 4:00 PM (lunch) and $19.99 per adult after 4:00 PM (dinner). This place is very reminiscent of Souplantation. The set up and offerings here are almost identical (and, dare I say, even better). The salads were fresh and crisp. The pastas were tasty and cooked in small batches so nothing sits out for too long. The soups were so comforting and yummy to have on a cold day. My personal favorites were the classic clam chowder and the cream of mushroom soup. The cheesy garlic bread is so good on its own and dipped in the soups. I definitely ate my money's worth in all areas! The hospitality here is exceptional. Everyone we interacted with was so friendly. I also noticed that the workers here regularly wiped down the counters and picked up stray food. I will definitely be back! read more

If you ever had Souplantation, this is basically it except a rebrand. Food was delicious and the staff was very friendly. The nostalgia I felt after eating was ughhhh yes ! It was a straight walk in and no wait, probably because it's a weekday and it's been a while since this location had opened so it's not as busy. It CAN get busy though, just not today. I only ever get this when I come up because it's too far for me but it's the only location that is the closest to me so I make sure I come on an empty stomach. It was $17.99 for an adult so it's worth the price because it's AYCE. The bussers are very quick with cleaning the table up, everytime I left to get more food I come back to a clean table. read more

Came all the way from Santa Clarita to try this upgraded (former Souplantation) place out! We used to religiously frequent the Valencia Town Center and Porter Ranch locations of Souplantation before the pandemic so hearing we were close (enough) to a similar experience, we had to try it all these later and... it didn't disappoint! We did have to wait in line about 40+ minutes (2pm on a Saturday) to be sat but the pacing at the salad bar was incredible (since we were staged by front desk) and everything was very tidy/organized. Food was exactly as I remember (added bonus: bell red & yellow bell peppers at the salad bar!) and someone was by to remove finished plates on the regular. Will definitely be back, either when passing through town or when we need our next fix! read more

Theres usually a line out the door, no waitlist so its first comes first serves but it goes back pretty fast. The staff are very efficient and we can see the food being brought out fresh pretty often. There's plenty of seating as well. read more

Super happy I finally got to try this place! I miss these soup and salad places so much! Everything was very clean and organized in their entire food selection. You can tell they clean their food areas very thorough and I didn't see any bits of food on the counters. The food was very delicious. I made my 2 plates of salad and super satisfied. I like customizing my own salad and another plate for the pre made stuff. The stand out soup for me was the Korean beef broth. There was giant piece of meats and had bone in there too. It was so flavorful and I got 2 bowls of it! Their Mac n cheese and pastas were very good as well. I loved the honey butter with my cornbread and muffin. The sweet potato was just okay for me. The pizza and cheese bread were delicious and tasted just like the recipe years ago. The service was great. They were very fast on taking away our empty plates and kept our table clear. I hope more locations will open up soon! I would love to come more often if we only lived closer. read more

I get the hype and all but it was sort of a let down for me.... this was my honest experience.... Went on a weekday at just before 2 pm. There was no line outside so I went in. The guy at the reception asked how many, and I said just one. He told me to go out and wait.... granted there were a couple of people there, there was still space inside to wait... and yet he told me to go outside. In my head, should I just leave? There was space and there was room so what the heck? I'll give it a couple of mins and probably just go. Another guy came and asked me "are you in line? Are you waiting? " I answered yes. He proceeded inside and he was let in and lined up. In my head, this guy was also dining alone and yet... what the heck? They then called me by gesturing through the glass door. I went in and the guy that came after me... was apologetic and was telling me to go ahead ... and he was asking why would the staff want me to stay outside and line up when there's tons of space? Sketchy. In anycase... You line up to 2 different lines that offer the same types of greens, salad, and dressing + toppings. Get a tray, and a plate... looking back... there were a number of people getting 2 plates just for them. I would think that this would be ideal specially if you're going to get everything in one go. There were around 4 premade green salad and then different greens were placed plus other veggies like peppers, carrots, broccoli There were a number of dressings from vinaigrette to ranch and other creamy stuff. Plus more toppings and other pasta salad. You then pay at the counter and is asked if you would go for a soft drink or just water. (Blue cup = drinks, white cup = water) there's also a coffee option. From there the left side, has a choice of spaghetti, mac and cheese, white sauce pasta and a number of soups. The clam Chowder was the main draw. There was a lot of clams in it to make up for the flavor. At the end of this side, there are some toppings for your baked potatoes and soup... This would include cream, chopped onions, bacon bits, cheese, tortilla strips, small crackers. The middle would have small plates and soup bowls. Behind this would be the fruit/ dessert station. There's coffee on one end, and soft ice cream on the other. In between would be lemon/ orange wedges, pineapple, jello, honey dew, pudding, and some other yogurt like sweets. The right side would have your baked sweet potato, baked potato, 2 types of cheese pizza, corn bread, blueberry muffin, choco muffins and some butter. There's also a drink station that has a number of soft drinks, iced tea, and juice. Okay, that's basically it. I think the only thing missing here would be the protein. Unfortunately...... that's what's up, Once I got my salad and paid for it... I basically looked for an empty table. It seems this is where it might grid lock. If they're full, it might take awhile. The cleaning staff were a hit and miss. They would clean up the tables of big parties pretty quickly.... they also got my entire stuff even before I was finished. When I came back to the table, everything was gone... probably they assumed I left when I was just getting a drink. Didn't bother sitting down anymore and just left instead. I get it if it was busy but the place had tons of empty tables around this time... but it was fine. In all honesty, if you're into soups and salad this is fine... but if you want something that's balanced, maybe another place would be better. Will I return? Probably not. I don't want to say the D word... but looking back... it seemed like it... plus meal / price wise... not worth it. For lunch, I paid 23.46 including tax.... (meal + drink). read more

Came here recently on a weekday afternoon a couple weeks ago and I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was not a crazy long line outside. At first I thought perhaps the service has gotten bad and they are losing customers, but not the case. We were just lucky and it was just not a crowded day. Perhaps, the crowd was out holiday shopping, but good for us. To no surprise, the service has actually gotten better. The buffet counters were super clean and all the salad and topping selections were extra fresh. I was happy to get my favorite clam chowder and mushroom soup, which were both perfection. Kudos to the business owner and th staff for making this a wonderful spot and bringing back the Soup Plantation vibe! read more

Food: Service: Ambiance: for nostalgia Cost: Okay, amidst the chaos of being at such a buffet, it was quite hard to take pictures. We were on our way to the Festival of Lights at the Mission in Riverside and decided to stop at the Soup '! fresh because else's be real, we still haven't recovered from the closure of the Souplantations. So, while it was a good hour and fifteen minute drive out (rationalized by being en route to our final destination) we arrived on a cold December Friday night. There was a line outside the restaurant. Of course not everyone in our party was thrilled by the idea of standing in line after driving in LA traffic on a Friday night to eat... salad, but we remained committed. After a short (less than 15 mins) wait, we entered. As soon as we stopped in the nostalgic memories of a place that once was replaced any annoyances! Muscle memory had been activated: grab your tray, two plates, and enter the salad bar lines, and create your masterpieces of greenery. There were pre-made salads to choose from: a take on the mandarin Asian salad (sorry, didn't enjoy this iteration but appreciate the nod) and the cesar salad (didn't like this one either). But then, the joys of color and texture to build your own salad! Toward the end there were additional premade salads, pasta, pasta salads, and salad toppings. The place was packed! I mean not a seat in sight so my little hungry tribe was worried we'd have to wait again to be seated but they have a crowd control system (much appreciated) so that once you pay, you're seated immediately. After paying, we made our way to the soups where we found a majority of the goodies: minestrone (vegetarian + my favorite), broth, cream of something, chicken noodle and I believe a final one. Then, we enjoyed a selection of breads (garlic cheese, a pizza-like bread, and muffins). Cornbread. Enough said. With your think purchase you can enjoy soft drinks and/or coffee. The place was buzzing with little kids, families, and people. Loved the ambiance actually despite the chaos. We were well attended to by servers and they made sure to clear out dishes quickly! Finally got to try this place after hearing about it for so long. Food was great, reminded me of my childhood and most of my adulthood so far, haha. Tuna tarragon didn't taste the same as the one from Souplantation, but I wasn't against the changes. Although not exactly a muffin, the blueberry square was still delicious, especially when using the honey butter spread. Had 4 bowls of soup. Tried the cream of mushroom and the clam chowder. The clam chowder was not bad, it was a bit thinner than the clam chowder was at Souplantation, but still very enjoyable. The cream of mushroom wasn't my favorite at first spoonful, but it grew on me very quickly. I ended up getting two more bowls because I enjoyed it so much. Didn't get to try the other soups, but I definitely left full and satisfied. Grabbed a cone of swirl soft serve on the way out and was glad I left a little space for it because it definitely hit the spot on a hot day. Service was exceptional and kept my table cleared as often as possible. Seating staff was also very personable and we had a nice chat/joke session on the way to my table. I wish I had cash so I could have tipped the staff for their service. Ambiance was a little loud for what I thought it would be on a Friday afternoon, but not too different from what Souplantation used to be when I'd go with my parents. Definitely a very enjoyable experience and a great substitute to fit the Souplantation craving. Can't wait to visit new locations as they open. Definitely looking forward to seeing how Soup 'n Fresh grows in the time to come. read more
