I live in San Diego. We were faithful customers of Souplantation for more than twenty years. My family and I missed the restaurant miserably. We ate at Soup n Fresh everytime when we visited Monterey. We have been there twice. It's almost a two hour drive for us to the restaurant. The food at Soup and Fresh is excellent, just like the old Souplantation. I assure you MANY MANY people in San Diego would eat at your restaurant if you open up one or two in San Diego. One of the weekends, I took my friend and her 2 daughters to this place. It's been in our list for awhile. Our first time! A far drive for us (at least 1.5 hours one way). We were hoping to arrive when the place open but we had a late start leaving. We got there and they have a line queue outside which it wasn't long at all. I do miss it though coz it was our usual go to when we lived in Lakewood & it was a mere 5 minute walk from my parents' house. We clipped coupons to take advantage of the deals. This location & the one in Chino Hills is still quite a drive for most folks. I finally took advantage today. The outdoor looks lovely with yellow-green paint/trim, very refreshing ambiance. Indoors is modern & well spaced, a few live & non living foliage. There are table with chairs and some booths. It can accommodate a large group. It was a random Wednesday at a few minutes past 4 pm and there was NO LINE, no waiting. As per usual, at the entrance, there's a signage that gives you direction. #1. Get your tray & plates, #2 move along, there are 2 sides with the same set up, fill up your plates with salads, condiments, dressings, toppings etc. #3 pay, order drinks #4 find a table/seating. Then if you like, after putting your salads down, go back & get soup, muffins, pizzas, potatoes &/or bread. The beverage counter has Pepsi products (ugh), water, coffee, tea, hot water, lemonade. 2% milk(dispenser). The dessert counter has fruits, pudding, raspberry yogurt, arroz con leche, jello, soft serve (chocolate sauce, sprinkles, ice cream cones). Don't forget the blueberry and chocolate muffins and cornbread, muffins, focaccia and cheese, pizza, baked sweet potato and baked potato. You can dress up your potatoes with some sour cream, chopped onions, bacon, bits, that is located where the soups are (the butter is next to the muffins). The staff are diligent, friendly and constantly attending to patrons, polite and helpful. They help clear plates from the tables once customers are done. At the women's restroom, there are 2 stalls, one of which is handicap accessible. Parking is free but is shared among businesses at this plaza. Will definitely return when craving that trip down memory lane & the flavors and selection that we have come to know-/ that wonderful sense of familiarity. Price-wise, it was a senior discount, dinner $17.99/person. Still not a bad deal for unlimited foods. Dining time, though is limited to 2 hours. I used to love Souplantation back in the day. So when Soup n Fresh opened I was super excited. I am just now visiting because every time I would drive by the lines would be long and I did not want to stand in them. I went on a Friday night at 6 PM to my surprise. there was no line. The inside of the restaurant and the food is just as I remembered. I really enjoyed my solo date that night and it brought back so many memories of all the good times that I had there in the past. Been wanting to go to this place for a while. Especially since this business model took a huge hit from the pandemic. If you're not familiar, this place has a very comparable model if not identical to Souplantation. Typically, from what I've seen or heard, there's usually a line. But I came here a little on the later side in the evening, so I was able to pretty much walk right in. The vibe was chill because it wasn't crazy busy when I went. If you're familiar, you start walking through the salad bar and pay once you get to the front - presumably after you made your initial salad. Once you get past the front, you find a table and you can go back and get some items from the hot food areas. There's of course also the soda machines and the dessert bars. Typically, I'm not a big fan of the buffet model, but honestly since this place is reasonably priced. So I look at it from a point of view where I pay a certain fee and get a good selection of fresh produce to make a salad with some hot items lol. Don't tell anyone, but if you shell out a little bit for a fountain drink, you can make a root beer float with the soft serve ice cream. Yes, you heard that right. Basically a soup plantation. I was obsessed with soup plantation, so driving to Rancho Cucamonga to try this place was a must. It was exactly like Soup Plantation, from the salads to the breads and small pizzas and the soups; it all was the same and even tasted the same. The same concept, the same buffet style. Wow, it brought back memories. Since this is the only one of this kind remaining in California, this place gets packed. I waited about 30 mins to get in; there's a line that is crazy long, but the line does move quick. The main difference here is that the restaurant itself is way too clean. Soup Plantation was not always the cleanest, but here you can tell they put care into the place. I ate my salad and breads like a child trying pizza for the first time. I savored every bite because I don't know when I will return again because it is far, but damn, it was worth it. Worth the wait and worth the food. Came here for my sister's birthday. Honestly this place triggered my nostalgia more than anything else. The food is great, the chicken noodle soup hits just as much as I remember it from my childhood. Prices are more than fair, $17.99 for adults for lunch for all you can eat. I brought my mom with me on Juneteenth before we went shopping at Ontario Mills. We used to frequent Souplantation and so we were really looking forward to this dupe. The line was really long but went by pretty fast! Inside, it's the same system. You build your salad and then pay, before a server seats your party. Then you're free to grab soup, baked goods, and more. It's just as I remembered! The nostalgia that hit me when I took a bite of the pasta salad... everything tasted really solid and I'm so glad the soup and salad concept is back under a different name. I've been wanting to try this out for the nostalgia of Souplantation and was especially excited for the cornbread and whipped honey butter that I used to really like. Setup and menu items are pretty much identical. You have your long salad bar to start, then a soup section, the baked goods area, and the middle with your random assortment of fruits, ice cream, drinks, etc. Salad options were as good as I remembered them to be. I think they might've changed the noodles in the chicken noodle soup, as well as the potatoes in the clam chowder because I don't remember them tasting that way but it's also been a really long time. Tasted pretty standard though. Was honestly disappointed in the baked goods items though. Cornbread and whipped honey butter did not hit the same and was pretty dry/bland, as with the brownies and blueberry muffins. The cheese bread was the best baked item for me. Ice cream was definitely nostalgic. Overall, a fair experience for the nostalgia. Didn't hit quite like it used to but may come back later at some point to try again. This is one of those rare reviews that has no photo. For those in SoCal who are familiar with Souplantation, and miss it after they shut down, Soup n Fresh has come to fill the void. For those who haven't experienced it before, it's an AYCE salad bar, soups, and other prepared foods. They have two locations. One is in Chino, the other here and Rancho Cucamonga. This location is wildly popular and the line never dies down until they close. We came in the middle of an afternoon on Sunday and it was still at least a 30 minute wait. Their system is very efficient. A staff will let a limited amount of people in at a time to keep the salad bar line clear and moving smoothly. In between groups of people that are let in, the ones behind the counter will restock items that are low and wipe down the counters. That makes the place look clean all the time. Once you enter, grab a plate or two and a tray and create your own salad. They have many types of veggies with several types of dressings. Then you'll pay at the end of the line at the cashier station. They also have about 4 to 5 different types of soups, few types of muffins, baked potatoes, fresh cut, fruit, and a few other items. Soup n Fresh is a total nostalgic place for me because the last time I went to a place like this was before the pandemic of 2020, and everything tasted just like Souplantation, from the clam chowder to their ranch dressing. The experience brought back a lot of memories when I used to run into friends all the time. I hope they will open more locations towards San Gabriel Valley area. read more

Finally went to check this place out this morning, hoping Superbowl Sunday would be less busy! Got there right at opening at 10:30am and there was already a line, but made it inside only 15 minutes later so not too bad (I've seen other people had to wait up to 40 minutes at opening). The Souplantation vibes right off the bat were perfect. The salad bar was almost identical. It was missing a few items, but had everything else down to the tuna taragon (which they perfectly replicated on taste) and wonton chicken salad (this unfortunately wasn't quite the same. it was missing the dressing and was much more muted in flavor. a bit bland). They had almost all of the same soups and pastas. The chili was good. The broccoli cheddar was coagulated and wouldn't recommend. The coveted chicken noodle tasted the same, however didn't have those THICK Souplantation noodles. Still good! The pizza bread, delicious. Cornbread was good. The blueberry muffins were good but a little muted in flavor as well. They tasted almost the same, but just not quite full flavor as Souplantation. Whipped honey butter still amazing! The ice cream was still yummy. They didn't have any toppings at this location though! No sprinkles or Oreo crumbs. And they had full size cones instead of the mini. Overall, a good experience! You go in and get yourself a plate and walk down the lane and gather your salads, veggies, pastas, soups and baked potatoes. Then you go pay and then find yourself a seat and enjoy your food. The highlights for me was the chicken noodle soup, clam chowder, cheese pizza and Chinese chicken salad with corn, peas and egg whites and honey mustard dressing. This is my second time visiting this location. If you're local, try to go on weekdays instead. We initially tried to come on the weekend, and the line was out of hand. It was so long!!! You come in, get a plate of salad or two, pay for your entrance fee and a drink if you choose, and a staff member will help you find a table. Once you're seated, eat the salad, or you're free to roam and grab soups, pasta, potatoes, pizzas, muffins, fruits, and/or ice creams. The staff members we've encountered were all friendly and very prompt in greeting, seating, and clearing the table. Other patrons were also generally courteous. The dining experience inside is very nostalgic for Souplantation. My favorite soup was the cream of mushrooms. I tried the cheddar broccoli, house chili, and the clam chowder as well. The bussing staff is efficient and friendly, continually surveying the eating area and quickly clearing tables of used plates and debris. Similarly, the food service areas are well-maintained to ensure spills and garnish droppings/drippings are cleaned up quickly, as well. Prices are typical for a buffet - even if the selection is limited primarily to salads and soups. If seeking a wide variety of different main course proteins, this probably not the place for you; however, the salad ingredients, dressings, and soups available appear to be made with quality ingredients. A senior discount is also available for older folks. I probably wouldn't travel to Soup 'n Fresh again if not in the area (as it is several cities away - about a 20-minute drive by freeway), but I would love to see one open closer to my residence. FOOD / DRINK / DESSERT: It appears their salad bar had one side, but then again, it looked like the other side was closed off at the time. Great selections of fresh ingredients... I got green leaf, spinach, tomatoes, cucumber, red onions, green/red/yellow bell peppers, beets, egg, sunflower seeds plus more. Lots of veggies and toppings! Tip... put all greens on one plate and all toppings on another plate... it's one gigantic salad! You don't have to return for more LOL. Several dressings to choose from. I went with housemade ranch and thousand island... good choices! Various soups to choose from. Clam chowder looked a tad thick so I didn't get it. I went with bone broth chicken noodle soup and cream of mushroom. Both were very good! Hot and tasty! Mac n cheese, spaghetti, and penne pasta (all with no meat) were available. I didn't get any because they were quite bland at the other location so I skipped them here. Garlic bread, cheese pizza, 3 kinds of corn breads, and french baguette were offered. I tried the chocolate corn bread, french baguette, and cheese pizza... they were decent. Dessert bar had limited fruits, jello, pudding, tapioca, granola, soft serve vanilla and chocolate, and a few other items. Got the vanilla soft serve with some toppings... it looked smooth, but it tasted slightly icy which I thought was weird. She directed us to the salad line and informed us to pay after getting our salad. We then saw a sign that indicates "Please Seat Yourself". Cool! Overall staff was very friendly and attentive. Thank you! INTERIOR / AMBIANCE: Bright and clean interior. Temperature was fair. It felt very cozy as the ceiling was low like in a ranch style house. Great space with lots of bench style and tables/chairs seatings. Well kept and maintained buffet stations. We didn't use the restrooms, but assumed they are available. EXTERIOR / PARKING: Exterior was okay. Free parking available in the Thomas Winery Plaza where this Soup 'n Fresh is located. RECOMMEND THIS PLACE? My husband and I came here on a trip to big bear. As huge fans of souplantation when it was open, we loved soup n fresh. The nostalgia of feeling like we were back in 2018 eating at souplantation when we were dating was such a nice feeling. They have a lot of similar dishes, the salad bar doesn't have as much options as souplantation does but I cannot complain about soup n fresh at all. Everything was delicious.
