Dr. Mark Runfola is absolutely a rock star surgeon! He was recommended by my oncologist after I was diagnosed with melanoma on my thigh, everything went perfectly from the consultation to the surgery and the follow up. When I was at the dermatologist for a regular follow up the Nurse Practitioner and then the Doctor both remarked how perfect the incision scar was- you don't often hear any medical professional critique another's work, much less unsolicited. Dr. Richard Oh from this practice did my previous triple hernia surgery, again without a hitch. Luckily for me I was referred to Dr Cortesi, her scheduler Melissa called me and worked with me to get an appointment asap that worked with my schedule . I was referred to this office by my primary doctor. My appointment has been set for 2 weeks, yet this place decided to call me the day of my appointment, after I had already taken half a day off of work, to tell me the doctor is refusing to see me. Extremely unprofessional to call a new patient the day of, and cancel. Not only did I have to take time off of work and lose pay, now I am left with having to go back to my doctor, take more time off of work, without pay, pay a new office fee, to find a new doctor. read more

Worst doctor/hospital experience i have ever had. Dr Damore didnt explain much of anything about my hernia repair procedure then passed me off to the scheduler, Casey Roughton. Casey couldn't explain what money was due when. Casey did assure me there were no up front expenses but failed to tell me the hospital was going to charge ne over a thousand dollars, up front, before the surgery could continue. The doctor (Damore), doctor's medical assistant (Shelly), nor the doctor's scheduler (Casey) helped me through the process at all. I felt ignored and completely uncared for. Then i got to experience more of the same at Banner Desert Hospital. Neither Advanced Surgical Associates nor Banner Desert Hospital cares about their patients. I haven't seen a review for Dr. Haley on here and wanted to give him a shout out and HUGE thank you. I needed to have my gallbladder removed, the ER initially said it was non-emergency but that I did have stones, told me to follow up with a surgeon. After deliberation and not wanting any more attacks, I decided to have it removed. Turns out the ER sonogram was inacurrate and my gallbladder was extremely inflamed and more serious than originally thought. Of course, I had no idea as I was blissfully asleep under anesthesia, but I am so thankful for Dr. Haley's expertise in handling the surprise. He did such an amazing job and was still able to remove it laproscopically. My healing went great, I was pretty uncomfortable for a few days (to be expected), but I feel amazing right now. Dr. Haley is so kind and knowledgeable, I would recommend him to anyone. The office staff is very nice as well! read more

Dr. Masur is professional, knowledgeable and has a wonderful easy going manner about him that puts you at ease. He excels at explaining procedures, what to expect before, during and after surgery. Being rushed to the ER with severe abdomen pain is always scary because you don't know what Dr the hospital has on call. God heard my prayers because I was blessed to have Dr. Daveshni Kumar as my surgeon. I started off with Dr Masur and while my pancreatitis was subsiding, I met 2 med students and 2 residents while awaiting my gall bladder surgery. They were all attentive, kind, genuine and spent time answering my questions and those of my family. The day I was ready for surgery, Dr Kumar was on deck. From the start, she was positive, gentle and empathetic. She was quick to educate and assured me I would be taken care of by her and the team. After the surgery, she spoke with my husband and family to let them know everything went well. My family was so grateful for her presence and as soon as I was lucid, told me how much they loved Dr Kumar. If i could give her a 10, I would do it because what she did after my surgery is what really set her apart from all the doctors I had seen at Banner Desert. The hospital doctor was not managing my pain after the surgery. I don't even remember that night because the pain was so severe, I couldn't think straight. The next day Dr Kumar came to check in with me and quickly noticed I wasn't doing well. She immediately took charge of my care and made sure the nurses were quick to administer the meds she prescribed. She also took the time to send all my prescriptions to my pharmacy and set up discharge paperwork even though I wasn't yet able to be formally discharged. I honestly don't know what I would have done had she not taken over and changed how the Hospital Dr was handling my care. She has been a blessing and I'm so grateful for her expertise and kindness. Please be advised if your having a surgery there and you have not met your deducible they will request up front 50% of the doctors surgery cost. They claim it's their policy, however when asked for a copy it has yet to be provided. I ended up paying 20% of the 1050.00 however still fighting it as there was not any disclosure when making an appointment. If you get the billing department and speak to an Angela go right to her supervisor Kimberlee or Mary Lou Irwin - she is the head of billing. The frontline threatened to cancel my surgery until I could pay and didn't want to work with me! So if you can put up with the billing the surgeon was great! I will be filing a complaint on how they handled me from a billing perspective and hope my surgery goes well! read more

I had my gall bladder removed in 2012 by DR Jennifer Reitz who is out of their Gilbert office. She did a great job with that surgery and in the process found a hernia that needed to be taken care of. Moving forward to Oct of 2013 I find out that I need a hysterectomy I wanted to hernia done at the same time so I would only need to recover from surgery once. She agreed to the surgery and was great until it was determined my wound was not healing. She went back in and cleaned it up--but did not address a seroma that was under to mesh she had placed. I have this mesh with an infection under it that she places a wound vac on and cannot figure out why I am in so much pain. The end result was my demanding the wound vac be removed. Then DR Reitz in cohoots with Amy from Cozy Home Care decided I was suicidal and that something needed to be done with the wound. She called me and told me to come to Mercy Gilbert where I was to be a direct admit. Come to find out she did not have the authority to do this and I ended up going through the ER where she handed me to a group of animals who physically assaulted me and then I was thrown against my will on a psych hold. Had all of my personal belongings taken away including my underwear. She responds with a "I didn't mean to do that" Problem is the damage is done. Do not trust this woman...she is lazy or was too lazy to do a cat scan to find the darn inection. read more

DON'T GO HERE!!! I went to see Dr. Carrie Cashman, after finding a lump in my breast. I had already had a hand test and ultrasound at other places. I had my appointment and was told NOTHING that I didn't already know, after waiting almost 2 hours to see the doctor and I arrived early. She made a guess at what she thought it was and gave me my options, biopsy, surgery if it's cancerous etc. Already was told that but ok. I asked for the prices of removal which she then proceeded to give me phone numbers and told me to call them and ask, really they can't even call for me? But ok, let it go. Finally I go to pay, told them I didn't have insurance and would be paying out of pocket, she told me it was 130, I paid and left, nothing else was said. It's been a month and I just got a bill in the mail for 115 dollars from them! They did not once say the appointment was 243 and they'd be splitting it up or absolutely anything of the sort! They are literally trying to steal my money and have done absolutely nothing! If I could give them 0 stars I would. I will not be having my surgery done through this business. read more

I went in for my initial appointment just to find out they did not know if my insurance would cover the procedure partially or in full. I already paid the $65 co-pay just to meet Dr. Kevin J. Masur and rescheduled the appointment for a later date once we knew what my insurance would pick up. I asked Dr. Masur directly if I would need to pay the $65 co-pay again on the next appointment, which he assured me I would NOT since nothing happened on this initial appointment. During the actual procedure on the next appointment, Dr. Masur took a personal phone call in the middle of the procedure. Not exactly hygienic or professional considering I had an open incision. However, he did good work. But biggest issue I have is I was later billed a second time for the co-pay. I understand perhaps I was mistakenly billed but when I tried to call and clear this up I got no where. It fell on deaf ears. In fact they just told me to call the insurance company, (which has nothing to do with this-they bill according to the coding). I appealed this and they sided with me, however I'm getting collection notices still. I called the collection department and spoke with Lisa who was extremely rude, she talked over me with an attitude and even hung up on me. I understand she has a job to do but I approached this calm and with respect. I'm simply trying to do my due diligence. Not sure what kind of practice they're running but I wouldn't trust them. read more

I visited with Dr. Richard Oh in the Mesa office - I was recommended by another physician from an urgent care facility to have a temporal artery biopsy, after being being somewhat "brushed off" by my PCP after being recommended to a rheumatologist (which I could not get into until May) - this was done in order validate a possible diagnosis which could cause possible blindness if not treated right away. This office, and Dr. Oh personally, worked with me to get me scheduled for a consult, to get the biopsy scheduled, all within an extremely short period of time - he spent alot of time reviewing the procedure, the risks of both the surgery itself, as well as the possible consequences of not starting a treatment, if results were positive. In my 60+ years, this was the first time I have been put totally under - the surgery went great, absolutely no side effects from either the anesthesia or the surgery itself. The entire staff, both at this office, as well as at the hospital, were absolutely amazing. I feel very fortunate to have crossed paths with Dr. Oh at this particular point, especially as the biopsy results were positive, my treatment has started, and he may have possible have saved my eyesight. read more

To Lorri C from 6/22/16...This is completely normal at any surgery center you go to. The provider needs to be paid. If you go to the store to buy merchandise, you pay up front, right? The hospital collects up front for scheduled surgeries as well. Your insurance is a benefit that you are able to use towards surgery. You should know the coverage you have when you purchase your insurance and be aware of what your out of pocket would be for any service you receive. If you were a surgeon, would you really bill out to your patients and hope they'll send you the money after they already received your services? Most patients would never pay if that were the case. I had surgery at Advanced Surgical and had a great experience and paid up front just like you because as an adult, I know that I need to pay for services I'm getting treatment for. The surgeons at this practice are the best in the valley and deserve patients that will pay their portion. read more

I was diagnosed with breast cancer May 2015. I obviously needed surgery and ultimately needed to schedule that surgery. I was contacted by Monica, the surgery coordinator. I gave her my Gap Transamerica insurance information because I hadn't previously. She needed to verify that insurance and was told she'd call back. That was on a Friday. Monday I received a call from Kimberly, the insurance coordinator, who told me I needed to meet my deductible which was $3500 before I could schedule my surgery. I knew my Gap insurance would pay $2400 of it and asked her to contact Transamerica to verify. She rudely told me that it's my insurance and it's not her responsibility to call them. I then had to call our broker to try and facilitate the coverage so I wouldn't have to pay out of pocket. Mind you, I have cancer, and this is why I pay for insurance. My broker for Transamerica came thru and had them call Kimberly. Kimberly never called me back. I had to call her. They told her, in addition to covering $2400 of my deductible, I would potentially also be receiving a $5000 check once all the paperwork and pathology report was verified simply because I have cancer. When I called Kimberly to make sure she talked to them so I could schedule surgery, I could NOT BELIEVE what came out of her mouth.... She said, rudely mind you, "You know that monies not yours to do with what you please" "you know that monies ours!" I COULD NOT believe how rude she was. What she said and how she said it was so unbelievably inexcusable. I'm going through one of the most difficult times in my life and this is how I am treated by the facility I'm trusting with my life. She then told me that I never gave her my Gap insurance info. I said I gave it to Monica. She was just trying her best to make the trouble it took to verify everything MY fault! Banner hospital's insurance coordinator, Rachel, also called me to verify my insurance information and she was the sweetest, kindest most pleasant person I've talked to so far and she also got the amount I'm to pay out of pocket wrong but was very kind and apologetic about it. Kimberly needs to find a new profession! read more
