I used to stop in when I was in the area. After seeing the owner unnecessarily attack a bird rescue on Facebook I won't be doing that again. This business sells birds. Life changes for people and sometimes those birds go to rescues because that's the best option for them. Sometimes birds are rescued from horrible situations. We all wish that there wasn't a need for animal rescues, but attacking them for trying to do a good thing leaves a bad impression - both on the business and the owner. read more

I've been going to the store now for 10 years since we purchased our white faced cockatiel. I love it. I think the employees of the store are the most knowledgeable bird people in town. I regularly take my cockatiel back to get its wings clipped. I personally feel with some of the negative reviews on the store are from animal rights activist that hate the store for what they sell. Many of these negative reviews are absolutely false. I've been going to the store at least every few months for the last 10 years and I can personally attest that this store is clean and orderly. Yes, it's loud because there's a lot of birds in there. But all the birds appear to be happy and well taken care of. On another note, this is the only store my mom will take her African gray bird to get its wings clipped. read more

I have been visiting this store for the last 3 years contemplating a big bird for our family. I want to first say as a first generation immigrant no one in this store including Debbie has been racist towards my family. They have all be kind, attentive and patient. Nancy, Austin, Emily are wonderful people and have been super kind to us every time. I want to say SHAME on people for trying to ruin a small business owners reputation because she supported the President of the United States of America! Shame on you for trying to detour people from doing business here. Anyone who has not escaped or experienced socialism needs to stay in their lane! What happened at the capital on Jan 6th is not the fault of one single person. Instead of trying to ruin a business why don't you turn off your television and you educate yourself on the history of this country. Went in hopeful to make a purchase and left without so much as word or barely a glance from the woman working. I've heard some negative views about this store but disregarded them as I like to make my own opinions. Their birds are fairly priced and well taken care of. I bought my sweet cocktail from them quite some time back and he is by far the sweetest, easiest to handle bird I have EVER bought! However, the customer service here is nonexistent. I had to pretty much hunt someone down to help me and when they were they seemed annoyed. The woman who I believe is the owner is very stand-offish and is so unamused by anyone not knowing absolutely everything about each bird. Also, don't buy food or accessories here because they are HEAVILY overpriced. So if you want to buy a bird that's healthy and happy come here but not for anything else! read more

Linda cares so much about the birds in her care. She is knowledgeable and goes above and beyond to help you take care of your birds. I leave my birds with her whenever I travel and know they will be as well cared for as I would do myself. I enjoy going in to the store and playing with the young birds that are in a little pen. We had taken our parakeet into a vet that specialized in birds to have her beak trimmed. While we were there we were told that we should have her mates beak trimmed too. They stressed out the one bird so much that he ended up having a heart attack and died. I was so upset. A friend told me about Arizona Bird Store so I went there to get a new bird. When I told them what happened they offered to give me a free bird! I have been going there ever since to buy bird food and to have Sky's beak trimmed. She is never stressed out and loves her new little buddy! Thank you AZ Bird Store. You are the best! read more

First time in the store today. They have a decent selection and some gorgeous large birds. I'm giving a low star review because literally none of the staff were wearing masks and over half of the customers weren't either. There was no decent ventilation either. Other nitpicks were that the food was a bit overpriced compared to other local bird stores. I walked into the bird room and the squawking of the macaws was so loud that it made my ears ring. All hard flooring and bare walls made the echo unbearable. That should be a relatively easy fix though to add some sound damping. Overall not a bad place but the staff unmasked means I won't be back for a long time. read more

PLEASE DO NOT BUY YOUR BIRDS HERE. Purchased my bird on MAY 13th 2019. OTHER BIRDS MY BE INFECTED. I purchased the sweetest little cockatiel from This location. He is the only bird I own. He had a brand new cage and toys so everything was nice and clean. I have my routine of changing out his food and water every day and cage liner every 3 days. 2 weeks after getting him settled he started acting sluggish. he stopped preening, and was always sleeping. Since purchasing him I've kept an eye on his weight to make sure he was adjusting well to his new home. He was only 74g after about 3 more days he dropped 4g and so I took him to my Avian vet. He had a nasty upper respiratory bacterial infection. Vet said he is supposed to be at 90g for his size.(I was unaware of this) turns out my bird has Chlamydophilosis, also called "psittacosis" or "Parrot Fever". I'm Sure the other birds he was housed with, more than likely have it too. My vet bill is costing me $980. This disease is transferrable to humans so I also have to go to the doctor. This Store has you sign a contract that relieves them of any responsibility of the health of your bird after 48 hours. I paid 200 for this sick bird that didn't show its symptoms until 2 weeks after bringing it home. You live and you learn. Or read reviews and save yourself from my mistake. Don't buy your pets here please! Make the drive to Tropic Zone in Glendale if you're looking for a healthy bird. read more

I heard that this was a good place to find birds and it did seem cool at first. You can go into an area where there are parrots out of cages and it's interesting but we had a bad experience. When you go into the room with the birds there are signs on the door about not handling the birds and not feeding them. We didn't see the one about not handling them, I admit that that's my own fault but the way the employees/owner handled the situation was not okay. We went into the bird room and there was a worker in there holding a bird. We were standing near one of the birds and it started reaching out it's claws towards my sister and she reached out her arm and it stepped on. The worker was like 5 feet away from us and we were in full view. I even looked over to see if he was going to say anything because it was our first time there and I wasn't sure if we were allowed to touch the birds but he didn't say anything so I thought it was fine. The bird then got on my friend's arm and when she wanted the bird to get off it wouldn't get off so my sister let it back on her arm and she tried to get it off and back onto the hoop it was on before. It would not get off and it was nipping at her arm. My sister's arm was bleeding in multiple spots. At this point there were 4 workers in the room, some of them were even LOOKING at us and we were clearly having problems. My friend started to freak out and tried to move the bird's claws off of my sister and it freaked out and flew away. THAT'S when the owner decided to give her input which was "That's why there's a big sign on the door that says not to touch the birds." Um... I'm sorry. Maybe one of the 5 workers who saw us holding the bird could have mentioned that to us and then helped us get the bird off her arm. Seriously, I understand that there's a sign on the door but clearly we didn't see it so maybe put in a little effort and have some concern for your customers. read more

I took my African Gray parrot into this store December 24, 2018 and signed a contractual form to place my bird on Consignment Sale. My bird was sold sometime prior to April 16, 2019 and I was never called or contacted regarding being paid for the sale of my bird. When I called to speak with Debbie, the store owner and Manager, she has not returned any of my calls but the person I spoke with there told me she remembers my bird (named Marion) being sold and started apologizing endlessly for my not being notified of his sale. At this point since Debbie will not return my calls, I will be filing a Small Claims lawsuit against this business to seek a final legal financial resolution...I would not recommend doing business of any type/kind with this company and its owner! read more

Been here a few times trying to give it a chance; Not a fan of this store. I bounced between many bird stores for awhile trying to find the one that fit my needs best, and every time I go to this store I get bad vibes. Everything down to their cockatiels is over priced, the bird room is very cramped, customer service is always uncomfortable and surprisingly hostile at the front counter, and the birds always seem to be overall unhappy and unsocialized. I'm by no means a bird expert when it comes to avian wellbeing, but when everything about a place gives you bad vibes, you have to trust your gut! read more

Nice selection on bird cages. Went in today and no one came out to help me or greet me. I'm a Lil short and the bird cage I wanted was high up. They have cameras all over the store and the two gentleman in the back where they groom the birds just talked amongst themselves never said hello even tho they did see me. Disappointed left without buying anything. Been there before and had a lady greet us and asked if we needed help she was extremely nice. I guess the guys convo was more important. Purchased a cage at another store was a couple dollars higher but the staff there answered all my questions and helped. read more

I have read the reviews for this store and felt it was necessary to write my own. First off I hope that people understand that now is a very crazy time where everyone is overly sensitive and stressed during this pandemic. With that said I want to state that I have been a customer of this store for over 5 years. I understand that people may have had a bad experience here or there, but we have to keep in mind that everybody has a bad day and that we are all only human. I can say that I have had interactions with every associate that works at the store and I go there almost on a weekly basis. The store has amazing inventory, helpful and knowledgeable staff, and a wide variety of wonderful birds that are taken care of very well from the moment you come into the store. I have purchased multiple birds through this location and I have also adopted birds with complications out to the store that I was not able to keep. I have come to them with questions in emergency situations, Deb and the other associates there have always been more than helpful. They have a wide variety of miscellaneous items to purchase, however they do get busy so it may take an extra moment to get one-on-one help. I feel that this store is amazing along with the people in it and I hope that anyone would go and give it a fair chance and judge for themselves. Trying to find a bird store to get my conure food and monthly grooming, and I was worried to even bring her in there! There is a foul smell as soon as you walk in, not sure if it was made my chemicals in the cleaners they use or the store itself, but it was dirty and was not very welcoming. The store is hard to navigate, I had to ask for help to find where to take my bird for grooming, and once I entered the room I waited a while even though I was told it wouldn't take long. I eventually just left, but not until I saw the bird room. The birds are crammed together, I even saw a bunch of parakeets(which didn't have enough stands for them all, some would have to sit on the wall) that shared their cage with a bloody chicken! The poor chicken didn't even have enough room to be comfortable. read more

Against our better judgement we purchased a baby cockatiel 6 days ago. While at the store we observed filthy water dishes, disgusting cages and dead birds I think aviary. This isn't a store, it's a place for birds to sit and die! They're neglected! The prices are 25% higher than other stores and it seems the only concern the owner has is making money. The store is horribly understaffed-one employee brings someone with her on weekends, just to get help with the cages while the Manager sits at a desk and does nothing. Our bird died tonight, I'm crushed!!! He was well loved and superbly cared for during his 6 days....but let me tell you, watching a bird who can't breath, is sneezing and then dies to see over 1 tblspn of fluid empty from its beak further solidified my disgust! Do. NOT buy your birds here, there welfare only seems to be a concern for one very loyal employee...otherwise, no one gives a crap. The owner needs to sit in a box of her own feces and drink filthy water for days...maybe she'll then understand the unjust she is doing to a living being. This bird didn't stand a chance!!!! Finally-the macaw-do you enjoy walking on poop and seeing animals without food and water? If you do....be sure to visit! There were Quakers in the room in cages they could get their heads stuck in-the bar spacing was so large! Other cages-wild bird-looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. read more

I don't know what the bad reviewers are talking about but this is an amazing store! They were very helpful with my bird Rio I'm sure they've already remembered who she (or he?) is by now. I recently (July of 2014) adopted Rio from a friend and they're saying she could possibly be a boy! Just have to take the DNA test whenever I'm ready. They've got awesome choices of bird cages (new and used!) , tons of toys, wide selection of food, I bought a play perch for Rio at a steal! The staff are super friendly, knowledgable and it's an awesome experience to explore the bird room. I know it may seem messy but seriously I have one bird and it gets messy the second after I have done a full cleaning task (which I do at least once a week) and the smell the other people were raving about?...I couldn't smell a thing. They're birds and they love to make a mess. When others mentioned birds looking distressed, ever seen a bird get groomed? They're feathers don't result all pretty-like obviously because the birds are getting groomed (nails, beak and wings trimmed). There's no "brush or comb" made for birds anyway. They naturally fix their own feathers and come back to purty-ness in their own time. Rio loves coming to this store, she says "My name is Rio!" And responds to other birds. If you ask the staff what the birds talk about, that'll be the highlight of your day. Alright, I could go on but go in for yourself and you'll be delighted. Just don't bring bird-phobic friends unless they want to face their fears....this would be the place to go. :) read more

I Bought my parrot there a couple years ago and had a mixed to negative overall experience. The staff was mixed in their knowledge, one younger gentleman just shrugged his shoulders and walked away when I asked him the sex and age of a parrot, the younger woman was very helpful though and seemed to care. The owners did not seem to care much, most likely because I was looking at a medium sized 700 bird not a several thousand dollar macaw. They did try to talk me into an umbrella too which would not of been appropriate for someone with only moderate hook billed experience. The store was very dirty and they were not actively cleaning up. I am giving three stars though because the birds did seam healthy (and the one I bought still is) and the one girl seemed to care about service and the birds. read more

I wasn't greeted and the girl with the curly hair let me know I was bothering her by her lack interest in what I was asking my first time in. I went back and still wasn't greeted, (because at least she told me to come back during mating season) and payed for a weak underweight bird with the promise the would improve his weight and health, and if they couldn't or I didn't take the bird because of health I would get a refund of my money. I specifically asked this because I told them that was the only thing I wanted and she lied and told me yes. I returned two weeks later and they failed horribly in that task. So instead I changed it to two wild birds which were less in price. They out right defrauded me by flat out lying to my face. Lying they would refund my money to get me to sign the paper. I didn't take the bird then because it looked 50/50 when I saw it. I wanted to rescue it from them, but I didn't want to take it home and it dies and they wouldn't refund your money for that either. They just changed their minds and tried to make me jump through hoops. I don't want store credit because I wouldn't have ever shop there again, but now I'm forced to go back to this stinky dirty rude people having dump who pretends like they're rescuing birds. read more

I wish I had read the other negative Yelp reviews for Arizona Bird Store before doing business with them. Recently, I put a $50 deposit down on a baby cockatiel. They called me to let me know they had one available. I came in, selected one, and I have spent quite a bit of time handling/bonding with it. Today, however, they called me to tell me that a mistake had been made, and mine had been sold to someone else. I wasn't happy about that, and said so. Debbie (the owner?) was very rude to me and said to just come in and she'd refund my deposit. She made no effort to make things right. I've been around quite a few baby and adult birds, and honestly, this store not only seems to treat customers poorly, but they also seem to neglect their birds. They obviously are disorganized and can't be trusted to keep track of whose bird is whose. I definitely won't be doing business here in the future, and I'd caution anyone considering purchasing a bird to avoid them. read more

Its been now about 2&a half years ago since I known thouse lovely people . I remember my husband bought me a five day old military macaw and I was looking for someone that could help me learn more . We went there and I remember walking in and seeing all kinds of brird lots of them out of there cages where you could actually interact with them. And the employees where very attended to the customers. And from that day on I was in there every weekend for a couple hours looking at all the stuff there couse they cary everything and when I was not at the store I was calling and calling asking questions about how to hand feed my baby bird . And every time I call and as much as I did call they still answered my question even the stupied one's.And just like that I became very good friends with every single one off them and trust them very much with my birds. read more

Today I went to the AZ Bird store to get an english budgie. I, of course, looked it up on yelp. I took it at face value and disregarded the negative reviews. Let me tell you, DO NOT SUPPORT THIS STORE! When you walk in, it reeked. The bird room to the right is the source. The floor was covered in filth and waste. But the worst part was that they were horribly overstocked. They waaay too many large birds who all looked disheveled and stressed. I went to the cage that contained the parakeets, and there were many of them crammed in a cage with equal or more cockatiels. It was absolutely shocking! I am finding contacts to report this place. I don't care if it was the middle of the day on a Sunday. If you have THAT MANY birds, their environment needs to be cleaned often, and the birds need more attention and care. They should absolutely be ashamed, and if there is someone in charge of taking care of these birds at this particular point in time, they should be fired, or extremely reprimanded for the conditions I saw the bird in today. Ok, I will start off by saying I love the store. Yeah, bugs have been seen, but you know what, with so many birds and the amount of seed, its almost weird to not see a single one. Then about the heat... Ok its humid, and hot for us, but birds shouldn't be kept in the freezing cold. Their natural climate is HOT AND HUMID! I have gotten all of my birds through them, and wouldn't go anywhere else. Very knowledgeable and so helpful. If so many people say they are understaffed and need help, hey here's a thought. VOLUNTEER! Think that one over. You all keep saying " how can they sleep and night and this that and the other," but no one tries to lend a hand either. I love the store, the workers and the birds. And as far as the birds being sick, and all that.... What most don't realize, is that a lot of the birds have been left there in those conditions.
