I've been a longtime patient and always appreciated the doctor's care. Unfortunately, the front office has become increasingly unreliable. Prior to appointment I conveyed my new insurance to the office to be sure it was accepted and was told it was. It is a widely accepted nationwide insurance. Honestly, during my first appointment, I had a great experience and loved the doctor. The problem after came trying to refill a prescription and get in contact with the office. They go through a third-party for phone calls and made it absolutely impossible to get in contact with the office without making an appointment. No one ever got back to my voicemails or my prescription refill requests after months of trying. Arizona Eye Specialists is handling COVID-19 and processing patients as well as can be expected. The staff is polite and goes about their duties efficiently. I had a 3:30 appt., did the required paperwork, and was taken into an exam room within 10 minutes. Dr. Cody Quarnberg is very personable while also professional. This is the 3rd annual check up and he seems to remember me. I have problems with my eyes watering and itching. He suggested a much better medication, recently available, that so far is working very well. Actually, my eyes have been more comfortable than they've been in years. Turns out asking for help on a problem rather than living with it works well. There is a section off the main reception where you can purchase your glasses if you like. The office is clean, eye exam equipment seems to be up to date. Parking is plentiful and free. read more

Very unprofessional environment. I went there for the first time today to see Dr. Uzcategui. There was a sign on the door saying "masks required." So, I masked up. (Better safe than sorry!) Imagine my surprise when a gentleman in the waiting room had his mask tucked under his chin, not covering his nose or mouth, attending to his cell phone. Another patient on the other side of the waiting room was wearing a mask, but took it off to take a call when her cell phone rang. (People, got to love 'em). The medical assistant took me back almost immediately for my 3:15 appointment, so I was happy to get out of the waiting room. She did two vision tests in one room and tried to take me to another room for a third test, but that room was occupied. So, she tried another, but that one was occupied too. So she took me to a waiting area to wait. (Fine.) Imagine my surprise when I see two employees in scrubs who walking back and forth in front of me with their masks tucked under their chins, not covering their noses or mouths! (Gross.) Happily, the medical assistant found an open testing room and took me to it. However, she could not get the testing equipment to work. One of the unmasked employees I saw earlier came in, got something from a drawer while the assistant was asking me for some medical information, and then left. The assistant could not get her testing equipment to work, so she escorted me back to the waiting room where the two unmasked employees passed back and forth repeatedly. (Really?) Several minutes later the assistant returned to take me to another room to have my picture taken and to take the final test she was unable to administer earlier due to technical problems. I asked whether either was medically necessary. She could not answer, only explaining that she is following the process she was given by her superiors. It was about 3:50 by this time, so I explained that I would happily do both if the doctor determines it was medically necessary. I further explained that I was uncomfortable because people were walking around without masks, so I would rather be taken to the exam room to wait for the doctor. She did, and I was appreciative. (Whew!) In the exam room, imagine my surprise when the two unmasked gentleman I saw came into the room. One was Dr. Uzcategui and the other was his assistant. Dr. Uzcategui put his hand out to shake mine, and I did against my better judgement, not wanting to be rude. He then sat down very close to me and started attending to his cell phone. (I don't know what he was doing, but it was nothing related to my appointment.) Finally, he turned his attention to back to me and started asking me questions. I asked him to please put his mask on, and he quickly reminded me that he was technically wearing a mask. (He was; it was just wrapped under his chin.) He said that when he puts his mask on it slips down when he talks, and he proceeded to demonstrate. (Wow, not only a physician who never learned to wear a surgical mask in medical school but also a know-it-all. Just what I need.) So, with is mask under his lower lip at this point, he proceeds to ask me for test results, which I gave him. He asked for another result which I had done in the past but did not have with me. He said he would need to repeat it. Knowing quite a bit about this particular test, I asked him why it was necessary, and he became agitated, as if I did not have the right to question his judgement. He was talking loudly, close to me, and I asked him if he could at least sit at a distance if he was not going to wear his mask. At that point, he lost his temper and started yelling that he could not work with me. Bottom line: There have got to be more professional ophthalmologists in Phoenix. If you absolutely need to go here and believe in taking reasonable precautions related to the pandemic (like wearing a simple mask in a medical office), make sure you request a physician who is not an anti-masker. read more

First and LAST time there. Had an appointment on 2/12/2021 for 2:00, arrived at 1:45 A guy named Ben was ok and did the stuff before Roden came in He came in finally at 2:45 and never cracked a smile, (yes you can tell when someone is smiling and in a good mood with a mask on) so yeah pal I didn't want to be there either. When I got my script for glasses and went to fill it at three online businesses it didn't jive with my last script and the new script didn't even include the PD! Now I understand a person's eyes can change from year to year but the change in this script was strange. After speaking with other eye professionals we came to the conclusion it was not correct. To have the script I was given I would have had to had eye surgery or a bad cataract which I didn't. I emailed Arizona Eye twice and called once and NO-ONE ever responded to me. Yeah, I get it, you'll take insurance money 365 days a year but you aren't accountable and your customer service DOESN'T exist. If you're considering Arizona Eye and Dr. Roden for your checkup don't do it, 'run like hell', and find somewhere customer service actually exists. Just wanted to start by saying the medical assistants that helped me were wonderful and that's why this is two stars and not one. However, I had an absolutely horrific first/last experience with Dr Suiter. I was supposed to have a chalazion possibly removed. He asked if I have a history of fainting and I said yes. He gave me numbing drops but no pain injection before the procedure. He then proceeded to express the oil glands in both of my eyes (3 lids) by pinching them with qtips which was excruciating. I asked him twice to stop and had to pull my face away. Afterwards I told him I felt like I was going to pass out. He just looked at his computer typing and talking. I asked for water. Please I need water. Multiple times. He ignored me and said I needed to "let my brain reset". I said I was going to throw up and he just handed me a trashcan without even LOOKING at me. I said I'm about to pass out I need to lay down, please I need water.."Here"- He turned off the lights, fiddled with the chair for 5 secs (which did nothing) then returned to typing and telling me aftercare information while I was completely incoherent . Finally I said I NEED TO LAY DOWN and CRAWLED into the floor. He did NOTHING but say "careful don't trip". A medical assistant came by shocked saying "Dr Suiter, the patient is on the floor!" He just mumbled something to the effect of "yeah" then walked out. Not a word. I am BEYOND livid. Never in my life have I been treated that poorly by a doctor. Thank God for the two ladies that helped me afterwards, I asked if this was how he usually treated his patients and they said he's "eccentric", but this was unacceptable. I need the supervisor's information NOW, and you best skip sending me a bill for this appointment. Oh yeah, and the chalazion is still there. So thanks for nothing. read more

Just cre from appointment with Az eye specialists. So angry! My 80 year old husband had an appointment. They told me I couldn't go in with him b/c of COVID which I totally understood but I knew he wouldn't remember to tell the dr. all of the pertinent information. So I asked the girls at the desk to be sure the dr. knew that he had had a cyst behind the eye he was having trouble with. They told me they had heard my husband tell the dr. this information. On the way home I asked him if he remembered to tell the dr. about it and of course he said he didn't remember. So it was a virtually a wasted appointment. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CARING!! NOT!! I was referred to Dr Aiello for my left Eye Ptsois. He was the best, he has a professional bedside manner, he is attentive and very thorough in his exam. He performed my surgery on Monday and could not be happier, thank you Doctor! His staff is the best, Ray his assistant is the best, he responds to all questions timely, even off hours and the weekends. Due to the nightmare of Covid my surgery was approved but all surgeries were on hold. As soon as the window opened, Ray called me to schedule my surgery. I had a poking sensation in left my eye and double vision when waking up :( I went in a little paranoid because I did not know what was going on. The staff here is very friendly and attentive (shout out to Patty who did my triage). The receptionists were kind and made sure that everyone was taken care of and that coffee was available in the waiting area :) (brownie points on my end) The doctor (I don't remember his name, he's Caucasian, nice smile and glasses) was very friendly and approachable. He gave a sample of some drops (which I didn't have to buy now :D ) and explained what was going on with my left eye. Overall, great experience! I was hesitant to visit a Dr office during COVID, but finally got up my courage. I was very comfortable with the social distancing and mask compliance in the waiting room. This continued as my appointment progressed. everything was constantly being cleaned and I was offered sanitizer whenever I wanted it. They eye exam was smooth and efficient and I feel I got a good medical evaluation and prescription. The only down-side was a significant wait time beyond my appointment time (40 minutes), which they attributed to cleaning protocols and a fully booked schedule. read more

I would actually prefer to rate them zero stars but I'm coming off the holiday cheer and still feeling the spirit. I have gone to this place twice for a contact exam and subsequent follow ups. And have experienced the same issues both times. Be prepared to wait in the waiting room forever!! Seriously minimum 30-45 minutes. Every time it has been like this. Then prepare to wait again in the exam room. I felt like cattle waiting for my appt. Once in they do not care to take the necessary exam time rather i always felt rushed and like I'm on an assembly line. The staff and physicians could not be more impersonal. I always feel like I am doing them a favor by having my business. My contacts then were wrong upon coming back to pick them up and then Waisted mire time trying to explain to the staff the issue.
