Unlike some of their competitors they wouldn't include the $159 diagnostic fee into the repair cost so I had to pay that on top of the inflated repair cost. The pricing is obscene. I called them because I had some AC issues and needed someone to come and check it out. The person comes out and, granted, does diagnose the problem fairly quickly, which is that the Freon in the unit needs to be replaced. He does the job promptly and has done a good job. And then I get the bill.... For a diagnosis and to replace 3 LBS of Freon, it was $680!!!!! The Freon alone was $521, which is higher than even the highest of the high end, which, inclusive of labor, should probably be closer to $100-$120 per pound. Are you kidding me? I needed a new thermostat for my heating system because the old one has been here for about 25 years. I called and explained what I needed, and the woman with whom I spoke said it would be... Nearly $650!!! Every other quote I got came in between about $125 - $200. I hired someone else and paid less than $200 including both parts and labor. I thought she was joking or misreading something so I asked "are you really telling me it's around $650 for you to install a new thermostat?" She confirmed that is the right number. I used this company years ago to service my AC system and dropped them because I thought their prices were too high. This tells me that was the right decision. Recently we needed to replace our heat pump (a major project) and got several quotes. Theirs wasn't the cheapest, but we decided to go with them because we were convinced we'd get the highest quality from them. Everything I read about installing a heat pump said the installation itself is key, and that the quality of the technicians who install it will make a big difference in how it functions for years to come. They are always prompt in getting us on the schedule, professional, and they get the job done effectively the first time. One of their technicians, Richard, has come out several times including this past week to repair a Freon leak and replace a coil outside. He not only does great work and has gotten to our system inside and out... he is highly personable and provided great entertainment for our 9 month old daughter while he worked! He showed her pictures of his son, made faces through the window while he worked on our AC unit, and made her laugh. Arlington Heating and Air is class act. Our AC went out in June, and we called Arlington Heating & Air to take a look. The man who came out explained the problem and admitted that the problem would return. The only solution would be to replace the entire HVAC system. Ouch. The estimate, which was provided on the spot, included two different options and varying price points. He even acknowledged that buying a new HVAC system is not something one does on a whim and did not pressure me to make a decision. Fast forward to September. We were ready to bite the bullet. The initial quote was updated and actually came out a bit cheaper due to a current special. The financing was done in-house, and a crew came out the next day to begin the work. The work was flawless, and the guys thoroughly explained their work each step of the way. They even left our basement cleaner than it was when they began working. We will definitely use them again. read more

Edit to add: I woke up this morning to a nice email from the owner and a refund. As I mentioned in my review, they are nice people to deal with and I wouldn't hesitate to call them for my regular HVAC system. I would, however, call someone that specializes in your brands ductless unit if that needs repair. Lesson learned: look up on the manufacturer website for certified repair tech for your brand of ductless unit. We have a fairly common brand of a/c / heating ductless unit in our basement. It stopped working a few weeks ago and was flashing error codes. Our unit is 3.5 years old. I texted the owner of the company about a repair. But unfortunately, he has closed his business and recommended Arlington Heating. Arlington heating was very prompt and nice on the phone. But it should have thrown up a red flag that scheduler had to put me on hold to see who could work on the ductless units. (I even gave her the brand name.) She told me they had 2 techs that could repair ductless units. Great! We made an appointment. The tech came out. He was COVID safe and friendly. He admitted that he had never worked on this brand of ductless but could see what he could do. After an hour or so, he "thought" it was working because he reset the unit. (Meaning turned it off and then back on.) But he wasn't sure what caused the issue. We were happy that he said it was working and paid him the service fee. Two days later, we notice that the unit was still flashing the error codes and it wasn't working again. I called Arlington Heating back again to ask for my service fee back. I explained that I wanted to hire someone familiar with this brand. The person answering the phone suggested instead that their "service tech manager" would come take a look because he also has experience with the ductless units. Another appointment was made. Tech came out. He was also friendly and COVID safe. He said that he had never worked on this brand but got to work trying to figure it out. After a while, he thought it could be the sensors on the unit. He suggested ordering all 3 sensors to make sure we get the on that wasn't working. The said the office would follow up. The office called today with the price of the sensors: over $600! When I asked what would happen if it wasn't the sensor, I was told that the he was the "service tech manager." (I'm not even sure what that means.) Before dropping another $600+ on parts that "could be" the issue, we called a company listed on the ductless unit brand website for install and repairs. Within minutes, they got me to the correct person that understood these units. I was told that the most common issues with these units and they were able to look up to see my unit was still under warranty. (So if it needed sensors, it was covered!) The new tech came out a few hours later and was quickly able to diagnose that we had a Freon leak in the outdoor unit. The sensors were just fine. For the first time in a while, the unit is working again!! Bottom line: Arlington Heating are nice people. But they aren't skilled at ductless units and they should have suggested I call another company because I dropped money on them coming out. Expensive lesson learned. read more

My wayyy too old of an HVAC finally died (after 50+ years). I was looking for estimates. Called on a Monday, and couldn't get anyone to come out until Thursday. The other 4 companies I called came out the next day. The "young boy" who showed up gave me an estimated RANGE. Umm what? I wanted a 2.5 ton HVAC unit, 14-16 seer. Preferable Carrier or Rheem. However, I would entertain Trane even though I don't care for them and their history. How are you going to give me a range (and a $1000 range on top of that) when the other 4 vendors I talked to gave me an exact number? "It'll be about $xxxx, but maybe $xxxx." I was floored. He didn't even tell me what brand the unit would be. What are the specs? Other vendors asked about square footage, number of people, rooms, etc. I could have gotten that on the phone. He just said he'd go back and send me a proposal via email. Needless to say, I never got one. Total lack of concern from this man. He seemed uninterested in his work. I didn't get the proposal that day-or ever, but based on the "range," the price was a joke anyway. This company's price was 50% higher than the other 4 vendors. I'm not even comparing one brand to another different brand. Arlington Heating came in at 50% or more than EVERY brand (Carrier, Rheem, Trane and Goodman). This person was Arlington Heating's first impression. He didn't care. So I have no faith the company cares. Besides, go away with your fake numbers and "ballpark." This isn't a renovation or addition to a house where estimates can vary based on material or what they find after digging everything up. I'm buying 1 unit, and installation. Get your sh*t together Arlington Heating. You're in my house, looking at my unit, and you know exactly what inventory you have. You won't be doing any work from me in the future. If you're okay chasing down your contractor/vendor, sitting in the clouds with a price RANGE and not really sure what number it'll be, then pursue at your own risk. After moving to Arlington a few years ago, I originally contacted some of the places that advertise extremely low cost maintenance specials to service the older HVAC unit that came with our townhouse. It seemed like they all had the same process, a very minimal "inspection" and warning about the age of the unit and offering to price a replacement system. I understood the system was older, but I wanted to maintain and get the most out of it. It was a different experience with Arlington Heating & Air Conditioning. They listened, tested and fixed some minor issues to get an extra few years out of our furnace. Then when it came time to replace, they did a great job replacing our furnace and explaining the system they recommended and configuring it to work with our smart thermostat. We've since moved and converted that unit to a rental. In the new place we have had Arlington Heating & Air Conditioning come inspect the existing system. They helped identify some potential issues with install and suggested some low cost fixes to prevent long term damage. I really felt confident in Richard's explanation of the problem and proposed solution. The employees clearly know their stuff. We just had the 2nd installation a few weeks ago and everything went well. They took the time to install some extra intake vents to improve circulation and flow, and did not charge us for that. They were professional, respectful of our space, and cleaned up well. I might have been able to find a cheaper install, but I am willing to pay a little more to have it installed correctly, but true professionals. It is worth it. read more

They were personal over the phone and even had records from 15 years ago when they serviced the house for a previous owner as this was my first time calling. They were able to send a technician to the house within a couple hours to diagnose why our heater had stopped working. The technician, Richard was fantastic. He wore a mask to the door and through the entire process, put on foot coverings before entering by the house, asked if I wanted an explanation of what he was doing, and walked me through the entire process. He was able to diagnose the issue and solve it on the spot and even talked me through how I could do a temporary fix if it happened again or what exactly was needed for a longer term solution. I would absolutely have Richard back for future service and will be calling Arlington Heating and Air Conditioning for any future issues. read more

4 pinocchios for this bunch! I called them to have a water heater restarted and test a boiler. The technician (Cory) said that the water heater was leaking and did not want to start it because the pressure might cause it to blow up. He also said that the wiring for the boiler was wrong and it needed to be replaced along a control module and gas valve. So he leaves without doing anything and charges me $124. I get another crew from Advance Tech to come by the next day and they start the water heater and test the boiler in 20 minutes. They also told me that the water heater was rusting a bit but not leaking. The boiler was started and they said that the control module and gas valve were fine. So 4 pinocchios to these bozos and I will never recommend or call on these lying jerks! read more

Arlington Heat and Air has a so called radiator expert and complete tool. Gladly paid the ripoff of 105 dollars to see this guy down the road and I kept the receipt. BBB should see this one! I scheduled an appointment with this company and was told they would send out a service technician the next morning between 8 and 12... excellent! Or so I thought. That morning around 9:30 I received a call saying a technician was on the way. Then I received another call at 10 to tell me that technicians don't work in my condo building because they've had problems with the management company. So I just took off a day of work to accommodate this appointment and now you're telling me you don't work on this complex? Obviously you had a record of these issues if you've had problems in the past - why was I ever scheduled for an appointment if your company knew it didn't perform work here? I told the dispatcher this was unacceptable, so she called her management and said they would send another technician anyway. The guy shows up, inspects the AC unit and thermostat in my condo and says he needs access to the roof. I take him to the condo office and the management company just needs some form of identification to hand over the roof key. The guy refuses, throws a temper tantrum, and heads outside to rant on the phone with his company. Obviously you aren't going to just be handed a key without some accountability, so I'm not sure why holding a form of identification is such a big deal. Either way the guy up and leaves and now I've waited aimlessly for two technicians from this company on my day of "vacation". I call the company one last time to explain how pathetic this whole process has been. The management calls the owner who explains the technicians should not have to give up their identification to get roof access. My rebuttal - I shouldn't have to give up a whole day of vacation time to get no AC service from a company that can't figure out which buildings they will and won't work on. I'm sure my cycling friends who work Long and Foster in Arlington are going to love this story on tonight's ride. read more

Just purchased a home in Arlington where this company had installed a new AC unit approximately 1 year prior. Home inspection showed the AC was not performing at peak, so I called them, gave them the address and they said they would transfer the warranty to me (as the new owner) and came out to take a look at the unit. Turned out the A/C needed a little more juice, which they did under warranty, no charge, and a friendly welcome to the neighborhood. I also signed up for their regular service plan as the sales associate I spoke with (Allison) was incredibly helpful and friendly. Turns out she was the same wonderful Allison that sold me my last A/C unit at my previous residence (different company though). We have a 2 zone system and have only had to replace one compressor---the system keeps on ticking even after a lot of our neighbors have had to replace everything. Had an issue with my house being freezing and a furnace that wouldn't turn off. Mike came out and after explaining the situation, he fixed the thermostat right away. Once inspecting the furnace he found a burnt wire and replaced that. He also recommended a replacement for the unit bc it's past it's lifespan. I feel the cost was reasonable, Mike was very thorough in explaining my system to me and he dealt with my yellow lab who clearly thought he needed an assistant. I had a service contract with the company. Scheduled for a maintenance on my AC three weeks ago. On the morning of the appointment, I got a call telling me they had to push my appointment to the end of the month. Just that like. Canceled the last minute. In a matter-of-fact manner. This was 2 years ago. This morning I was supposed to have an appointment between 8-12 that I had booked a month ago. When I called the office at 11:20am and asked when the tech would come, Cathy said there was no appointment scheduled and kept asking to renew the contract. She then asked if I would like to have an appointment on Friday "first thing in the morning." I thought she was trying to make it up to me for messing up my appointment and said that would be great, but she said it would be between 8-12. How's that "first thing in the morning?" She just kept saying it was not her that missed booking my appointment. Whether it is her or another woman in the office, they both represent this company. It is not professional at all to tell customers about your internal training problems. It is even more unacceptable to lecture your customer, after you have messed up her appointment, "We have customers who are suffering because they don't have AC. Is your AC broken?" Excuse me? You should just apologize on behalf of your college and your company and show goodwill by making it up to your customer. It is not just one bad experience that I am writing this company off. I tried to work with them, but I am very disappointed after these two bad experiences. read more

Switched to them after 18+ years with another company that was doing my service contracts. Seem adequate in that department. Other areas of customer service, well, not so much. Won't install a customer purchased thermostat, unless it is a Nest, even though they don't carry the one I want from Honeywell. Found another heating and A/C company that will, for a nominal charge, and will also guarantee their installation work. As soon as my service contract expires with Arlington, I'll be moving on. In this day and age of Task Rabbit, and competition with so many other service providers, I want one stop shopping for all my heating and air conditioning needs and Arlington obviously can't provide that or doesn't want to. read more

These guys came out on a Sunday after I diagnosed the issue with one of our units--it broke down overnight and heading into a brutal heatwave, we needed a fix. Tech did a quick check and agreed with me on the issue (note: he did not try and upsell me on anything), replaced the faulty capacitor and was on his way. Was the price a little on the high end? Roberto was able to come over just a couple hours after we called with a malfunctioning AC during the first few days of an intense heat wave. He was professional, explained everything he was going to do clearly, and thought about the best ways to save us money on the service. He was easy to work with and very polite. It's kind of a small thing, but he was very careful to put shoe covers on when he was in the house and take them off again when he went into the yard. He had to go in and out several times, and I really appreciated how conscientious he was about that. His attention to detail made me feel that he was showing the same level of care to our AC repair.
