Yelp asks what could improve? Well, for starters my now wife and I booked an elopement package here. We booked the Tier Two package as we thought it was the best value. Based on what we saw on their website it looked amazing! Unfortunately after the experience it felt extremely over priced. We were under the impression the manager Cheryl was going to be there and was assisting us with any questions or issues that came up leading up to our special day and then the day before found out that she was on vacation and Jen would be helping us. Upon checking in we went to our room the "Lucinda's Suite" which by the name sounds great. The room itself was large and rustic which isn't bad and was what we were looking for however when i went to use the shower i barely fit never mind the shower head was at my chest level. I'm not a tall person either. On Saturday the day of our "special day" we went to the included breakfast which was nice but were left wondering what was going on for our big day as we were introduced to absolutely no one and told nothing besides a time to show up. When my wife and I went to the gazebo where the ceremony was to be held it was a rough site. Paint peeling, rotting floor boards and things of that nature, not something you're imagining to take pictures in on your big day. As we sat in our room we watched as they decorate led the gazebo...with a table and a table cloth. About 30 minutes prior we were finally introduced to Jen and our Photographer Greg. The best thing i can say was Greg was truly an amazing photographer and did the best he could with our photos. He honestly made the day for us a lot better with his energy and his enthusiasm. After it all we decided to just cut our losses and go home even though we had paid for 2 nights. The 3 hour drive and staying in our own home sounded better. Overall if you're looking for a nice place to elope this wasn't it, as our day did not feel as though it was made very special. The absolute best part was the photographer Greg Nesbitt. read more

My mom and I spent a weekend here. The inn is quiet, unique, and cozy. The staff were all so kind and helpful. Breakfast was wonderful each day in the beautiful solarium. We also had massages at the inn, and they were fantastic. Easily drivable to Manchester. Definitely recommend! read more

Bar just reopened for Friday and Saturday. So many great memories. We ordered two of the inn's signature drinks. Talked with the owner and a few other of local friends who stopped "inn", for drinks. Interesting food option as they look for a chef. Nice relatively quiet place to enjoy a beverage or two that you won't make at home. read more

The tavern at the Inn is remarkable. we have been going there, ever since it was renovated opened. The owners have done a great job, the bartender is just beautiful and inviting. If you are in the Arlington area, or just driving around, please stop in. Dave, the bartender will greet you, and he definitely knows his way behind the bar. Try one of his specials, you won't be sorry. Not only is he a great bartender, but an entertaining one with his antics. The tavern definitely creates that warm cozy feeling, quoting Dave, you come in as strangers, and leave as friends. Also if looking for a great place to vacation, look into staying at the Inn. All rooms have been renovated and just beautiful. Fall season is now beautiful. read more

To our surprise we found the drinks to be reasonably priced. The Inn is currently listed for sale....hope any new owners will keep the tavern open to the public. My husband and I just got married at the Arlington Inn! We selected one of the elopement packages they offer on their website and we are so glad we did. The inn took care of absolutely everything and made our wedding an absolute stress free breeze. Not only was everything extremely well executed, but the staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful which meant a lot since we didn't have any friends or family for our wedding day. It felt like the staff had adopted us while we were there and I mean that in the best way possible. Of course the inn itself was beautiful and we had a cozy room with a fireplace and there are so many great hikes and shops near the Inn if you are looking for things to do. Arlington Inn has long been a great spot to stay and eat in SW Vermont. We stayed there when looking for our new home and have eaten there on MANY occasions. Currently, the new owners have had occasional, special "holiday meals" and all I can say is they've outdone themselves each time. The food is delicious, it is bountiful and the service staff could not be more professional, courteous and attentive. I can heartily recommend eating at one of their holiday dinners/brunches, at their daily breakfasts and staying here for a true New England experience. read more

I went to Arlington Inn for breakfast with my partner and our 16- and 13-year old. We sat near the fireplace in the bright and cozy dining area, and had Carriage House Omelet, chocolate chip pancakes, banana bread French toast, and traditional French toast. Everything tasted fresh and the portion was substantial. The Inn owners were welcoming, friendly and gracious. The service was top-notch. read more

This is a classic, lovely setting with warm efficient service and very well-prepared food. We live in the area and had always meant to try this beautiful spot for dining, but it wasn't until on of our most particular guests showed up that the timing worked out. David was a welcoming as a host could be, and cheerfully learned how to make a Lemon Drop at our friends request--which turned out to be the best one she'd ever had. Questions were answered knowledgably, more special requests were handled graciously, our delicious food came in no time--exquisite lobster raviola, flavorful crusted chicken, velvety filet mignon...and we luckily had room for dessert and relished our warm brownie sundae. This is our experience - May 2023 - we arrived to an empty Inn - even though we were told there was a 2 night minimum - the Inn was empty. After requesting a room floor "suite" we were told we could stay in the luxurious Carriage Suite for an additional 35.00 - We had informed the Inn we would only stay one night - after this was resolved - the Luxury Suite consisted of a bed - 2 chairs and a bathroom - no mini fridge - room was freezing and smelled like polyurethane - or worse - sno additional blanket - mattress was soft - There was no desk staff on duty -until 8:00 am - no way to ask for blankets or ice - coffee was not available until 8:00 a.m. the following morning - not even a coffee station - breakfast was only available 8-9 since they were "busy". Maybe in its prime - this would have worked - the place might be charming to out of staters - in reality - it is a tourist trap - Lots if money wasted here - This is a generous review - the place needs a major renovation and some staff would be helpful read more

One night was wonderful, but not enough. I was in the area for a book launch at Battenkill Books (what a great store!) in Cambridge, NY and the Arlington Inn was a perfect place to stay, just 20 minutes away. But there is so much to see in the area that I want to go back. And I will definitely return to the Arlington Inn. The room was beautifully appointed; the bed was super comfortable; and the breakfast was delicious. The owners are present and personable, and certainly made us feel welcome. If they ever do an afternoon of tea and local poets, I'll be there! read more

The Arlington Inn is a sweet little Inn and Restaurant near Brattleboro, VT. It has a main house, two smaller guest houses, a small dining room, a classy parlor, and a large rustic garden/gazebo out back. I photographed a wedding here in August - it was a very intimate wedding in the garden's gazebo attended by two guests, a chicken, and a cat. It would be a great place for a smaller wedding (I'd say less than 50 guests) in the summertime or an intimate wedding or elopement in the colder season. read more

Will definitely return. The owners Buzz and Tabitha were very warm and friendly and took the time to show us around and share future plans for the place. My review is mainly for the facilities and service, not the restaurant. This is where my husband I eloped last August. We live near Boston, and decided to elope in Vermont so I started researching B&Bs there that offered wedding planning services. Most of the places I found online were for adults only, and we wanted our two children with us so I emailed a few that allowed children. Out of the four that I contacted, only two responded, and one did not respond to a second email requesting more information so I ended up choosing the Arlington Inn by default. I was a tiny bit worried because I wasn't able to check it out in person beforehand, but once we arrived we discovered that the web site did not do this place justice. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere, in this quaint little town, and it is just beautiful. The room we stayed in, called Old Squire's Gable, was quite roomy, with a main bedroom, a loft area with a queen size mattress for the kids, and a sitting room. The sitting room also had a day bed. This room was in one of the smaller guest houses, so I can only imagine how big the rooms in the main house are, since that house is so much bigger. The only night we had dinner in the restaurant was our wedding night, since the meal was included as part of the ceremony. The food was not bad. We didn't have dinner here any other night because I felt the prices were a little high. We did eat breakfast there every morning, however, which was very good. My kids loved the pancakes. I had something different each day, and it's hard to choose a favorite. The staff was great, and very attentive to our needs. It turns out that the owner grew up a few towns away from me! Our wedding was held in the gazebo in the backyard, and we even had the honor of having the Inn's pet chicken, Potato, attend as a surprise guest. I'm glad I chose such a wonderful place for my wedding, and I'm looking forward to going back again. read more

This review is long over due. We were fortunate enough to have our wedding at the Arlington in this past summer. I can not say enough good things about the Inn, the owners, and the staff. Everything came together with the help and direction of Elizabeth and her team. The barn in back was the perfect country setting we hoped for, and the accommodations were perfect. Not to mention the fantastic breakfasts we had there. If you are just passing through, or considering the Arlington Inn for your wedding destination, I highly recommend giving them call and stopping by. We plan to stay there again and relive the wonderful memories of our wedding. read more

First this review is strictly for the restaurant. We came here based on a Stratton Vermont magazine advertisement, and on first appearance this is truly an historic Inn. We certainly felt like we were in old Vermont, from the wallpaper, to the reading room, the fireplace etc. The restaurant was small, maybe 10 tables plus one large separate dining room for 12. Very small menu, 4 appetizers including one horrible tomato sauce tasting tomato bisque soup. This was truly the worst soup I had ever had. Then the bread served was of no distinction, nor was it even warmed, but it was served with a weird Gorgonzola cheesecake that was tasteless. Not looking so good right? Finally a decent complementary salad of baby greens with a slightly sweet dressing was a solid good. My main course was the well seasoned veal chop cooked to the perfect medium with a delicious finishing sauce and dressed with better that average potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and peppers. My wife had the deep creamy and succulent porcini mushroom ravioli that was excellent. Table mates raved about their entrees of filet mignon, duck, chicken, and even the child's plate of chicken strips with crinkle cut fries were good. So while the overall dining experience had some hits and misses, I would return. read more

Came here for a romantic dinner for two. It is pricey for what it is and the portion sizes are small. However overall the food was very tasty. We shared a slice of chocolate cake for desert which was mediocre at best. The decor was very nice and had a vintage flare as expected. read more

This is literally the worst and filthiest hotel, inn, motel, b&b, or any other rentable space that I have ever stayed in. The decor dates from the 1980s, and it looks like that's the last time it was cleaned. We stayed in the Arbor, in a room out of a horror movie. (I think the room in the Bates Holtel in Psycho, where a murder occurs, looked cleaner.) Let's start with the bugs. This is the place where old bugs go to die. There were dessicated moths, bees, ants, centipedes, and other insects all over the place: on the bathroom rug, on the curtains, on the shower curtain, on the floor, in the jacuzzi--everywhere. Don't get me started on the living ants, moths, and flies we discovered. The chairs in the room were filthy and slimy, the room smelled, the bed smelled, the towels smelled (and were sparse; hilarious that they had the little sign saying to conserve water, throw the towel on the floor if you won't use it again. If you throw it on the floor, you'll have to pick it up the next day to dry yourself with; you're not getting any towels the next day.) The jacuzzi, decorated with wet dead insects rather than dry ones, dripped the whole time and was filthy (not that we would use it; didn't jacuzzis have their heyday in the 1980s?) The decor was covered with dust. Heavy, dust-covered velvet valances on the windows, an ugly, filthy quilt hanging on the wall with matching quilt material as one of the valances; a headboard that completely covered one of two windows in the room. As for the bathroom: the jacuzzi took up one entire room and the toilet and shower (hardly big enough to wash yourself in) were squeezed into a narrow little space. The extra roll of toilet paper was enclosed in a cloth dinner napkin. How quaint! We couldn't get anything decent on TV, so we watched shows on our iPad. The tissue box was encased in a 1975-era ceramic box. There was an unplugged-in clock radio on a bedside table. A clock radio in 2022! The wall was a garish deep purple, the shower/toilet room had garish deep purple wallpaper (even in the shower) with a 1980s floral border.) Heat, which we didn't need, is provided by gas fireplaces with scratched and filthy screens. Probably most important is that they don't serve dinner (as they list on the website), as they have no chef. After experiencing the room, I wouldn't eat there anyway. They did buy the place 6 days before we stayed there (for only two nights--two nights too long), but they have no business to open the place until they CLEAN IT and do a LOT OF RENOVATION. They also have no cleaners who clean up, make the bed, etc. Which brings us to the gardens, which are weedy and messy. Any flowers are being taken over by an overgrowth of weeds. The whole point is: If you buy a dump, fix it before you charge people to stay there. And, by the way, if you need ice or anything past 7 p.m., don't look for the new owners. They've gone home. Sorry I couldn't give it negative 10 stars. read more

I got married here this fall. When it came down to it, the day went very well, however, leading up to was a struggle. Elizabeth, the innkeeper, was challenging to work with. She was unresponsive to e-mails and when I would follow up with calls, she seemed disinterested and annoyed. Her attitude remained this way throughout the whole process and was even apparent to our guests and wedding party who found her cold and unhelpful. On the day of, everything was done last minute, which made it difficult for me to relax and focus on getting ready. In addition, in the end, the food bill was much higher than anticipated. The rest of the staff and the innkeeper's husband were very friendly and helpful, and were the reason the day went so well. I'm not saying don't get married here, but if you do, be ready for a difficult planning process. read more

My fiancé and I decided to take a trip a trip up to Vermont for some skiing and relaxation. After checking the web we settled on the Arlington Inn, based on the style of the house and the beautiful photos depicting spacious rooms with large Jacuzzis. The Inn Keepers didn't get back to our about availability until the morning of our planned departure. We accepted Liz's suggestion to take the Old Squires Room. After a 4.5-hour drive we were not pleased to find the room had a terrible smell and could only be described as spacious if you are under 4ft tall. The carpets look like they have not been cleaned since the 70's and there's an animal living in the walls. This is meant to be an attic crawl space, not living quarters. We went to the main house the next morning with the idea of speaking to the owners before the other guests arrived. We explained our issues and were offered a second room in the parsonage only if we agreed to pay $20 more to cover the cleaning costs. We decided to stay put, not because of the $20, but because the second room had other deficiencies that made the packing and unpacking not worthwhile too us. Breakfast was excellent and the waitresses were nice. After a day of skiing we headed back to the Inn where they advertised they would be serving coffee and baked goods. There wasn't any coffee, food, or staff in the public area when we arrived. While looking at some tourist brochures 3 individuals entered the room, including Elizabeth and we presume her husband and mother. We are not sure because nobody introduced themselves or even acknowledged us. We ended up driving 10 miles back into Manchester for a coffee and some baked goods. Elizabeth checked us out of the room the next morning. She asked about our drive up from Massachusetts but made no mention of how we enjoyed our stay. Typically we'd say something but it was quite obvious that they just don't care. read more

I stayed here a few weeks back with my sister and brother-in-law while we attended a nearby wedding. The two men who checked us in were quite friendly. Our room was cute. We had a little porch just off of it with rocking chairs. I especially enjoyed the hen and the dog who wandered around the property. The only issue was that our father had booked a room, under the same last name, different first name for the same dates. They cancelled one of our reservations, thinking that we booked twice in error without clarifying with us. Luckily, there was still space when they came to check in. Breakfast in the morning was delicious as well. The girls working in the morning were friendly as well. I would definitely stay here again. read more

We have stayed at the Arlington Inn three times since 2008 all during the first week of October. Leaf peeping season as they call it. We plan to be there this fall as well. Cozy rooms each with unique decor. Great ambience. Super breakfasts. Gracious and welcoming owners and staff. So much to see in the immediate area. Norman Rockwell Museum, Manchester, Vermont, Todd Lincoln's estate down Route 7A, and Green Mountain College. Bennington is easily accessible and worth visiting for its role in early Vermont history. Great leisurely scenic drives in an easy to drive loop down Route 7A to Route 30 and back. An invigorating, relaxing experience in wonderful, scenic Southern Vermont. A must to be treasured. read more

For the restaurant: Superb dinner enjoyed by all in our party of 4. 1. Excellent bread. 2. Inventive appetizers. 3. Terrific seafood special. Three ordered 2 apps each for their dinner. Crabcakes, pancetta wrapped shrimp and a gorgonzola cheesecake (suggested for 2) were among the choices. All were beautifully presented and excellent. The cheese cheesecake was on a "crust" of polenta, and was a hit, came with pesto sauce on the plate and an olive oil drizzle. The seafood special was a generous portion of snapper in panko crust with a light lemon sauce with a few capers served on a bed of rice with grilled vegetables and a lovely salad. The fish was perfectly cooked and not overwhelmed but complemented by the method. While there were many choices for dessert, we shared a flourless dense chocolate cake with ice cream. Appetizers hovered around $10, dessert same. Entrees were either side of $30. Not inexpensive, but all we had was truly good. It didn't hurt that it was a crisp, clear Vermont evening and there were 8 stunning classic Porsches from the 1950s and/or 1960s in the back parking lot. We left the very attractive and gracious Arlington Inn full and happy. Very good experience. read more

I recently attended an outdoor wedding here. The place is beautiful, but the grounds definitely need more attention. Many of the garden plants were overgrown and not pruned, and the grass was in definite need of cutting. Since the wedding was outside, one couldn't help but notice. As for the ambiance, the barn was lovely for a wedding setting, and the food was good (especially the creamy potato salad). Since the couple were vegetarians, I thought it odd to serve meat as a boned leg of a chicken. Interesting selection. The "cocktail" hour was lovely, serving delicious local cheeses & fresh fruit. Overall, it was a lovely experience. The ambiance was nice, and the food was alright. Hopefully the price of the wedding for the couple was not over-the-top. read more

The Arlington Inn is a very unique and "one of a kind" special place to stay. My husband and I have made it our regular "get away" retreat 2-3x/year for more than 10 years, now! The inn keepers are like a second family ...and always insure that we have absolutely everything we need to relax and feel comfortable. The accomodations are outstanding, with just the right amenities to enjoy a stay in such a beautiful part of Vermont. Breakfasts were incredible, so don't take the quick and easy cereal route. Enjoy the quiet of the morning overlooking the beautiful sunny gardens and treat yourself to some seriously delicious food. Their omelet was so delicious we had it both mornings. Our first night there we had dinner, which was outstanding. I don't know if the Gorgonzola cheesecake the chef made is always on the menu, but if it's offered, spread some on their fresh bread - don't pass it by! read more

We first came to the Arlington Inn for our honeymoon, then again for our five year anniversary and most recently for our ten year anniversary. Every single time, the staff has been exceptional and made spot-on recommendations on places to eat and things to do. We love sitting in the beautiful gardens, and each room we've stayed in - from a king-size jacuzzi suite to the cheapest room available - has been comfortable and charming. To address some of the criticism in another review, we have found some of the floor coverings to be dated and the bathroom ceilings have seen better days. However, everything was clean and I expected a bit of that in a historic inn in rural Vermont with period furnishings. It certainly didn't detract from our experience! read more

The hotel was beautiful and authentic, and very well kept! We stayed in Rebecca's retreat, which also had an electric fireplace inside. Huge, very clean bathroom. The highlight of this stay was definitely the breakfast (as you can see in the pictures), it was all included in the stay! All freshly made and the waitresses were very pleasant. The breakfast kept us full through a whole day of skiing. Elizabeth is a wonderful and welcoming hostess, and so is Marlee, the dog! read more

I have had the pleasure of going to the Inn a couple of times. I like this place for its ambiance and spirited front house staff. This is a quiet and romantic inn where you can have a fine meal, wine and desserts. I really like the mixed grill on the menu -oh, and the cocktails are good.
