We had a truly incredible meal here. The waiter told us for a party of two he'd recommend 3-4 dishes, and not only did we more than double that, we ate and loved every bite. We got the sourdough pita, crispy chickpeas, scallop crudo, cabbage with nduja, short rib with baba, grilled squash, mushroom risotto, and finished with the tahini ice cream and strawberry/rhubard granita. The pita is an absolute must, and if I have any regret it's not ALSO getting a pizza, because those looked incredible. I think the absolute best bites of the meal, though, were the short rib and risotto, along with the tahini ice cream, which blew me away (and I didn't even expect to like it that much). just reading a review of a year ago with people complaining about mosquitoes and hornets and bugs. I am writing this with the same complaint about mosquitoes and bugs sitting out on the porch in the restaurant when the sun starts to go down. There's really no excuse for this. Thermo CELL makes an incredibly cheap little gadget which we bring now when we're coming there that you just turn it on and sit it on the floor and it absolutely deters anything like that. I think Management should have taken that review a year ago seriously. The food was very very good the atmosphere is delightful the white staff was very nice. The other concern is that we were seated outside which we wanted and about a half an hour later a family with four children under the ages of six years old were seated right next to us almost shoulder to shoulder where the planter is and they all began screaming and running around and this was for the entire dinner. That should not be anything that should happen. If you have a situation like that where screaming children are around they should be seated at a table around the corner on the deck off by themselves. Only problem is you only have three tables outside on the deck and you could easily fit six but there should be an accommodation for some type of situation like that. When you spend about $200 for a dinner and you're completely inundated with bugs and screaming children both of which are not necessary, you are left with a bad taste in your mouth. The property is really beautiful but I would not recommend this place for families in the summer. During our three night stay, my husband had to kill three hornets. Another guest had gotten stung by the pool. Pros: gorgeous property, the alpacas were so cute, delicious breakfast included Cons: the hornets and bugs especially lots of mosquitos, our room was not cleaned every day, management of the property just seemed a bit disorganized (they forgot to unlock the pool doors one day, they kept running out of pool towels, we asked three times to feed the alpacas but they were out of apples to the point we just went to buy our own apples to feed them, the website says there are farm tours but there were none) read more

What a wonderful trip! We loved our stay at The Hill Farm Inn. The buildings are beautiful, the room was perfect from the great linens and comfortable mattress to the nicest bathroom of any hotel or Inn I have stayed in. The common/lobby areas were large and relaxing, we loved the darts and pool table as well as the fully stocked bar with great beers on tap. The porches had breathtaking views. There is a pool, hot tub, fire pit, mountains and trails to explore and even alpaca's out back. We had a group dinner in what they call the Event Barn but it is not really a barn it is a stunning rustic but elegant event space/wedding venue. They took such good care of us and the meal was 5 stars! Another big highlight were the staff at the Inn. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel at home. They are locals that know the area and the best shopping, restaurants and hiking spots. The breakfast at the Inn was delicious and again they took such good care of us. We were part of a group who booked the entire property, all the rooms in all four buildings, for our wedding weekend in Vermont. There were difficulties from the beginning with guests trying to book rooms. There was miscommunication next week staff members and guests were charged incorrect amounts. Between initial payment and final payment there was also confusion, but we were told this was due to multiple turnovers of management. To start, the grounds were amazing. The property is beautiful and rooms were clean upon arrival. The lady at the front desk (Marie, I believe) was very pleasant. The ladies serving breakfast were also great. Things went downhill from there... We had gift bags for each room that we asked to be handed out on check in, but many guests did not receive their bags. We felt very unwelcome during our stay. It became clear the majority of the staff had zero interest in accommodating us in any way. Several guests overheard cleaning crew saying "who do these people think they are, it's not our jobs to take out their trash". Upon checkout we were told we had six bags of garbage. We had 10 guests in that house, and any extra garbage was bagged and placed in the hallway. We asked the staff if there were garbage bins for us to place them in and were simply told no. We were charged a fee for excessive garbage at checkout. We had over 30 guests in rooms on the property. We moved a bench around so guest can gather together outside and received a printed note the next morning that this was not allowed. Breakfast was included with our stay. When guests would ask for toast they were told that was not an option in some circumstances. Even two guest at the same table, one ordered and said they would not like the toast. The next ordered and asked for toast and was told that was not an option for the meal they chose. Our wedding photographer came to take some pictures as we got ready on our wedding day. Staff came out and started questioning them why they were not made aware of this beforehand, was this a planned event, etc. They told our photographer she was not allowed to photograph the property. Not a word was ever said to us as the bride or groom. At checkout guests where charged for the incorrect amount of nights, along with the fees for the excessive garbage and destroyed towels. These were pinned to my room and I was only made aware of the charged when I had to ask why the bill was higher than expected. The destroyed towels were explained to be from the brides makeup. It was disappointing to be surprised with these charged in the manner they were described at checkout. After we had checked out and were in our way home we received a call from one of the guest who was still at the property. The informed us they were at breakfast and heard the staff speaking poorly of our guests. So bad that they had to get up and inform the staff they were still there and it was unacceptable to hear them talking like that. Things that were said were "did you see the show this morning" "We sure showed them" "They thought asking for a manger would help them" etc.... Now I'm sitting at the airport waiting for my honeymoon flight and receive an email from the hill farm staff with outrageous claims against me. I was accused of doing things I never did, and they put my character in question. I wonder if they have me mistaken for someone else honestly. You would think they would be sure before sending out such a hateful email. I give you some quotes... "you were a teacher so I would imagine that you are familiar with lead by example and reading contracts before you sign them" "You called my assistant unprofessional and stated she had no right to be in hospitality? I could say the same for your behavior and your representation of your profession and your lack of following rules or READING your contract. You are a teacher of WHAT?" Overall the place is great, but at the cost and with renting out the whole place, I'd expect better hospitality and professionalism. I felt like I was walking on eggshells my entire stay, and had to play mediator between our guests and staff. read more

Pretentious and so disappointing. The hostess was lovely and it was so enjoyable to talk with her; the barn for the restaurant was beautiful. That's where it ended. Our server was lackluster and uninformative. He did tell us that all their plates are shareable, and yet when they came out, everything was oddly plated, and nothing was even enough to share. The food was bland and tasteless and left us wishing we'd found another restaurant. Expensive for little return. And to top off the evening when we walked outside in the dark, there were zero lights in the parking lot and since you have to park by the Inn, we had to walk all the way through the dark, and up a small incline hoping we didn't trip. Overall, a lovely inn. Pros: The suites are really spacious. We stayed in the hill farm and loved the high ceiling in the bedroom and the separate living area and modern bath. The staff was very welcoming and also gave us space. The common and outdoor areas are nicely furnished and comfortable and the grounds and views are beautiful. Cons: really only one. When we booked, the big draw was the restaurant and market along with some of the activities mentioned (farm tour, culinary classes, etc). Unfortunately we only learned 2 days prior to our visit that the restaurant would be closed for a private event for our entire stay and had to scramble to make other plans. Would advise calling ahead before booking if these things are important to you. I'm guessing if we'd had dinner on site, this review would have been five stars. read more

Chef Paul Michael Brinker is now onboard, so with him and /or Mariah in the kitchen, the place is rocking with killer food! Can't wait to try Paul's Burger Night on Fridays. He, like Mariah, has a knack for pleasing the palate. Last night we had superb Crispy Duck Legs. 3 for $10.00. I easily could have eaten a dozen if we weren't on any kind of budget. But we also wanted room to try the Caprese salad - excellent with H.M. pesto and local Maple Brook Farms mozzarella. One more slice of cheese and tomato would have been very satisfying. We also had some smoked salmon spread on black bread, which goes very well with Prosecco. Sadly for us, Hill Farm is losing a stellar employee in Kim, and we will miss her, and wish her all the every best. White wine, Rose and champagnes need to be COLDER PLEASE! We recently hosted my husband's 60th birthday party here with 35 guests. The entire weekend exceeded our expectations. The grounds were beautiful. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The staff was superb and the dinner was the best we have had in Vt. Chef Austin was spectacular! Sonny and the entire staff were so lovely. They made us feel as if we were home and treated us like family as soon as we walked in the door. First off, the property was stunning. As soon as we arrived, we were in awe of the breathtaking views and quaintness of the property. It looks like it could be out of a hallmark movie! The main house and barns were decorated beautifully for fall and the lawn was maintained extremely well. The check-in process was seamless and the room was gorgeous. You could tell it was thoroughly cleaned and well thought out to suit guests. Everything in the room (and also the house) was updated, well taken care of, and comfortable. We enjoyed the morning biscuits (I only wished they were kept warm with a hot plate or something of that nature) and the breakfast options were great. There was a sweeter more indulgence-type option (i.e., buttermilk blueberry pancakes) and then a more hearty, healthy option like an omelet with a salad and toast. Needless to say, there was something for everyone. We had gotten engaged on Saturday and upon our return later that night, Sonny had a beautiful note congratulating us on the front door and a bottle of champagne with another sweet letter waiting for us at the bar. She went above and beyond to get to know us and treat us as if we were her own. As we left she embraced us in her arms and thanked us for coming. We cannot wait to come back and visit Hill Farm Inn again soon. My only recommendation would be offering a tour of the house/property upon arrival and some water bottles at the snack & drink station to take with you either upstairs or when you leave to go somewhere. We stayed in the farmhouse, which is clean and lovely and felt very Covid-safe. They delivered delicious hot breakfasts to the house every morning. The property and rooms are beautiful. The only staff I found friendly and accommodating to me was Maria. She checked me in and was very friendly and chatty with me. On another note I found a lot (not all ) of the staff were very rude. When you have the entire facility booked with wedding guests and they knew the whole property was booked they should of had enough people to accommodate the needs of the guests. My first day to breakfast which we were told breakfast is between 8-10. Well a bu ch of us are early risers so we showed up at 8 well I heard comments about everyone showing up at once for breakfast. They couldn't keep up which is ok but don't complain about it. My meal came with toast that I did not receive as well as my brother in laws no big deal mistakes happen so we asked for it and never received it. I had to ask for extra towels and everyday I emptied the garbage in my room it was never emptied . Again I just put it in the foyer where we were staying inside a bigger bag. They charge hidden fees like excessive garbage we had the whole facility booked of course we would have garbage we cleaned up after ourselves . Also a fee fir a destroyed towel from makeup that quite frankly probably close the facility 2.00 and they charged 40.00 for a destroyed towel if washed properly in a high heat and bleach commercial washer would come clean which is how guest towels should be cleaned. I'm sure they have come across slot worse than make up on a towel. They were just fishing for things with the guests. Many of us were extremely uncomfortable because of the unfriendliness of staff. I have never encountered such rude behavior at a B&B or Inn or whatever you want to call it in my life . Also staff talking about us guests in earshot of other guests is unacceptable read more

They do not offer a full bar all day or night. If you want to spend your money at the bar you have to hire a bartender. Room was tended to once during a four night stay. What used to be a wonderful B&B to go to, is now a B&B to NOT go to. My family and I have stayed at Hill Farm Inn numerous times over the course of five years. This past President's Day weekend, my family along with friends of ours (4 groups in total) booked rooms at Hill Farm Inn. We arrived Friday evening and were told there was new management and everything has changed. I am not going to tell you every detail about what went wrong this past weekend, but happy to speak with you if you want to contact me via messenger. A few issues. Nothing was shoveled and the entire property was icy. Our friend's daughter slipped, fell back, and hit her head on the ice. When it was addressed to the staff member Maria, she replied, "This is Vermont weather". Our friends emailed management, and still no response. Hill Farm Inn has a lovely communal room with a fireplace and a bar adjacent to it for guests, since there isn't anywhere else to congregate. They also have a "game room" that has a pool table and darts. It was about 8pm and our kids were kicked out of the game room which we were told by Jules that it closes at 9pm. The adults were then told to congregate in our rooms, which made zero sense since the rooms consist of a room with either one or two beds. Jules made it clear that we were not welcomed and it was extremely awkward. We told the morning manager, Maria, about our experience. That evening, all the families left for dinner and my husband, daughter and I were the last ones to leave. Jules confronted my husband (who was with my 7 year old daughter) with so much hostility, that my daughter ran away, screaming for me. #1: You do not attack a guest like that, let alone when they are with a child. Jules was also with another staff member, named Taylor. They were both very mean and Jules was screaming at my husband. I stepped in and told her we did not feel welcomed and we will not be coming back. Jules first response was, "I refilled your water pitcher three times without you asking me and I also drove you to your room (via golf cart) with your luggage". I told her it was absolutely impossible for us to bring our luggage ourselves across a non shoveled, icy path. Then both Jules and Taylor yelled at us saying, "We don't want you back here! We don't want any of you back here!", and Jules raised her arm and pointed to the door, and said to the three of us, "GET OUT!!". She didn't say this once or twice. She said this many times. We have never been treated this way ever, nor should any guest for that matter. The reason why we came back was because we had wonderful past experiences and unfortunately, Hill Farm Inn is staffed with insincere, unkind individuals filled with so much animosity, and who clearly do not know anything about guest services. P.S.- I will say one thing. The breakfasts are delicious and the servers are very sweet. read more

We all felt so comfortable, as if we were in our own homes. Beautiful lodging and facility but the service was unwelcoming. This is the email I wrote to the staff below as to a response from a very unprofessional email written to my niece and her husband. It is unfortunate that such a beautiful place has individuals that are very unwelcoming. I read the email that Sonny the general manager sent to my niece and her husband. I felt that it was not professionally written and could have been composed in a more appropriate manner to express the issues that the Hill Farm Inn staff felt occurred during our stay. Sonny wrote that email and stated that Alex was angry and yelling when talking with staff. Unfortunately, her recollection is incorrect. She combined different people's responses into one response by Alex which was false. I went to the front desk on checkout day after my niece told me she was charged extra for excess trash disposal and towel destruction due to makeup on the towels. I went to the front desk to receive my final bill and ask about the policy that charges for excess trash and destruction of a towels due to make up. I spoke with Taylor. I asked her if she could please show me the policies about trash and towels. She couldn't nor wouldn't show me the policies. I asked her to show me on the website and she couldn't find it. She got flustered and said to just look in my confirmation and it was stated in the confirmation. There were several staff members walking around and in the kitchen at the time as well as guests behind me. I did not yell at her and did not behave inappropriately. Please confirm this with your staff as Taylor states I yelled and that is incorrect and a fib. She refused to show me a policy on this matter and stated that the inn was not responsible for taking out excess trash and that the inn was short staffed and could not handle it. I told her that I was not responsible for the inn not having enough staff. She stormed off and walked away. At that point I did state that she behaved like a highschooler and should not be in the hospitality industry. I am the teacher, not Alex and she and Sonny need to get their story straight. I went back to my room to get my confirmation email and look on the internet for the policy of the trash and makeup. There were no such policies described in my confirmation email and I will be happy to send it to you. The website does not describe or identify it as well. Unfortunately, when my husband asked about trash removal, your staff told him to leave it outside. He wanted to put the trash we compiled in a rubbish bin or a dumpster. There weren't even kitchen size trash bins or regular size trash bins on site. He looked and the only trash bins that were on site were in the rooms which were the small bins, one by our bed and one in the bathroom. We compiled trash in bags and put it on the steps outside of our room and in the general meeting area outside of our rooms. The maid did not come by and remove our trash even in our small bins, we did. We also had to get extra towels for our room and went to the front desk for those since our room only had towels for two people and not four people. We did not have an iron in the room and had to ask for one of those as well. I state this because Sonny mentions our party did not leave a tip for the housekeeper. Tips are for staff that go above and beyond their normal required responsibilities. It is not and should not be expected. The inn is responsible for paying their staff appropriately and an excess trash fee should not be charged unless stated in a policy. It was not a venue rental, it was a lodging rental and we were required by your facility to rent rooms for three nights since it was a large party. We were not given a location to deposit trash when asked and it was not identified in any literature or policies. In regards to the makeup on the towel that my niece was accused of ruining, it also was not stated in policy on the website or in the confirmation. Hotels, inns, airbnb's and motels usually have facilities to clean towels by bleaching them. If they do not have this ability, they have, what is called a, "Make Up" towel specifically used for makeup. I had just come from an inn the day prior and they offered a makeup towel. It is common practice and prevents damage of light colored towels from makeup. If it is not there then the only towels available are the ones in the room. In your case, white towels. The only information sent regarding a policy was that there was no smoking on the grounds. I do not smoke or drink so I followed these policies but was treated as though I smoked when given a lecture during breakfast about smoking. I do not appreciate being told or reminded of a policy that I did not break. Other patrons who broke this rule should have been dealt with appropriately. We were never made to feel welcome. read more

A total hidden gem. Everything about the property is breath taking, from the beautiful inn where every corner of the space is decorated with such intention, to the setting nestled in between the most beautiful mountain range. But perhaps our favorite part of the visit was not just the fact that the inn felt like our private home for the weekend, but the amazing animals that were a welcomed surprise. Cats Tiger and Maple were the official gate keepers of Hill Farm inn, they fell asleep on our laps in front of the fire and followed us around the property like two of our own. This beautifully restored 19th century inn is a few miles south on Manchester Center and the local ski mountains. The rooms are brand new and big; he bath is modern. Was here for skiing (stratton is 20 minutes) and will come back in the warmer months for golf and fishing on the batten Kill - (property adjoins the river I believe). The staff was very helpful and courteous and the food was fantastic - cool bar room with a playroom where we shot pool and threw darts. read more

I've read other reviews stating that the staff is unfriendly. We found them to be RUDE! We stayed here for a wedding at the amazing Hildene and it was a HUGE mistake. Noone cleaned our room or even asked if we needed anything. The house we stayed in had cobwebs on the lamps, coffe maker didn't work and there was a huge temperature difference between the upstairs and downstairs. Service for breakfast was basically non existent. We had to ask someone every morning to take our order and then they would forget or no longer have what we ordered. The wedding party and their family and friends rented the entire property and they acted as if we were putting them out. No wonder they can't keep staff. We were told we couldn't bring our own alcohol BUT their small bar wouldn't open unless we paid for the bartender. This was a wedding weekend. Of course people want to have a cocktail. Too bad for them, they wouldve made a ton of money if they provided a bar since everyone staying there is very generous and appreciative of GOOD service. Many guests were charged incorrectly, overcharged or charged for things like excessive garbage. I've never heard of anything so ridiculous. Grounds are beautiful BUT there are so many other places that will treat you well and are just as nice if not prettier. Our friends stayed at the Palmer House and they were so much happier and were treated better. Don't stay here. Not worth it! read more

What an incredible visit we had a few weeks ago to Hill Farm Inn! We stayed in the farmhouse, which was perfect for our family of five! When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised to discover a gorgeous kitchen, comfortable, spacious living area with a gas fireplace and even books and movies for the kids! In the morning we had breakfast in the main inn and it was absolutely delicious all local ingredients! Afterward, the kids got to feed apples to the alpacas, and even discovered the inn's resident barn cat, Milo - who was extremely friendly. Other amenities that we enjoyed were a gym and hot tub, in the summer a gorgeous in-ground pool overlooks the mountains to the south. In all, we absolutely loved our stay here, the staff was extremely hospitable and the surrounding area had a lot of great things to do, including skiing, shopping and great dining. We certainly hope to return next year for a second area adventure! read more

On the surface, this place looks great. Recently renovated this property boasts a beautiful Bar, Living Room, Dining area, and a great game room. We have even seen the guest rooms at a chamber mixer and they appeared top-notch! But looks aren't everything!! We recently went to the Hill Farm Inn on Saturday February 13th for what was advertised as a Celebration of Great Food, True Love and Friendship. We called ahead and made reservations as required in the advertisement. We chose the 2nd Seating at 8:45pm. Saturday arrived and we headed over to the Hill Farm Inn a bit early to have a cocktail at the lovely bar and therefore would be punctual for our 8:45 reservation. We were the only two people sitting at the bar, there were a few guests or patrons in the Living Room. The bar tender took our drink order and made our drinks with minimal confusion. Here is where it all starts to fall apart... We finished our drinks, 8:45 came and went. With our empty drink glasses and melting ice, which the bartender looked at several times, but NEVER offered us another drink, she repeatedly told us our reservation would just be a few more minutes. Running between the Bar, Basement and Kitchen, she would look at our empty glasses and never once offered to make us another drink and each time passing by she would say, just a few more munities. One Half Hour PAST our reservation time, we are still at the bar with empty drink glasses and now NO Bartender to be found anywhere, she had Vanished! I got up to observe the dining area. It was full of patrons enjoying dinner, no open seats and no sign that any of these patrons were even close to the desert course! Not looking good for dinner I thought to myself... and at now 9:20pm, we began to search out the bartender. Found, she was in the kitchen. She came back to the bar and I asked to close out our drink tab, we had waited long enough and had decided to go to the Copper Grouse at the Taconic Hotel in Manchester VT as it was the ONLY restaurant left in the area still open and serving dinner! The bartender, with her hateful attitude whisked my credit card away to charge us $19.21 for two cocktails... She took my card to the kitchen as if she was going to make three copies, or maybe just charge the card. She came back and returned my card without charging us for the cocktails as if she couldn't be bothered to help us, serve us another drink, or even charge us for the ones we had. (I will be watching my statement closely for fraudulent charges at this point!) We left this establishment promptly with the Copper Grouse at the Taconic hotel as our next destination. It is obvious that the staff and management of the Hill Farm Inn could not plan their way out of a wet paper bag! I would highly discourage anyone from going here for a cocktail, dinner, or even to stay... you may have to wait until checkout day before your room is even ready, all with an attitude and no apologies. Oh and I hope you don't want more than one cocktail! If you are looking for a truly memorable experience with top notch service, I would highly recommend the Taconic Hotel and the Copper Grouse. They definitely saved us from an evening of the Hill Farm Inn. read more

I attended several wedding events here, and this place is off the hook. It underwent a gut reno at some point in the past year or two, and it is now impeccable. Elegant -- yet cozy -- decor. The vibe is somehow both sophisticated and "country inn." The valley setting is breathtaking with the mountains right there. The food was very good and staff excellent. read more

Everything about our stay was great! We got a discount for staying midweek, but we got the full experience despite being the only ones at the inn. The animals in the back barn are adorable and the food was great. We definitely want to go back and see what it is like in the summer. read more

We had my husband's 80th birthday party here with 23 of us in happy attendance. It surpassed my dreamiest expectations. The food was divine (filet of beef, perfectly cooked and presented with broccoli and mashed potatoes), the waitstaff was delightful and so attentive. Mariah, our chef, is the Best.
