I love their texas bbq ribs and famous baby back ribs with corn bread and texas toast! Yum! Although I didn't like their brisket and chicken bbq. The place is clean although sometimes I find that some of the booth's seats can be sticky from bbq sauces, but then again, I just grab the booths when I see it available because it's more comfy than their regular tables and most people grab these first. So I don't really mind, but I'd recommend to check the seats first before you use them just to be sure! They have great customer service! I don't know if they've done it before, but they started coming up to each tables and asking if guests needed anything or if everything was ok! i came here on a monday and i guess the special for today was all-you-can-eat ribs for 13.95. me being the hungry pig i was, decided to order it. i went to the register and the cashier asked me what i wanted for my sides. i told her parmesan fries and caesar salad. she then goes, those will be 2 dollars extra...ugh forreal, if she told me earlier i wouldn't have ordered them because all i wanted were ribs anyway!! so my total came out to be about 16-17 dollars per person. it's not the greatest economy right now people.. so i mustered myself to the area to pick up my food and started to grub. the ribs were so dry and not flavorful! i pilled on the sauce which probably added 1000 more calories. the ribs just did not taste good at all. and stupid me, i stuffed my face with the salad and fries that i didn't even go back for another serving of ribs because i was so full from all the carbs. bottom line, by the end of the night i was stuck with a stomach ache, the kind that can only be comforted by my bidet. it's not worth paying all you can eat here, and it's probably not worth coming back. read more

Hit this place for lunch today. Friendly staff, really nice and welcoming. The Oyler cookers really impress when you come in the front door. They look like they're just getting broke in. Actually, look about 40 years old, but in a bbq joint, that's perfect and would explain the just getting broke in look. Served my meal on wax paper in a metal pan! Nice touch! It's perfect, keeps the bbq from slopping off the plate, you have a nice, controlled, bbq mess all contained. Also seemed like the portion sizes got bigger. The cowboy sausage sandwich continues to impress. Soft potato bun, sausage is sliced thick and layered, pickles on the side, it's nice. Upgraded with a sandwich, side and drink, came in at just over $9. Good price. They just keep doing it right, so I'm going to keep telling my friends about this place and I'm going to keep coming back. read more

It's always a challenge finding good barbecue in the bay area, but I generally settle for what I can get. I've been coming to this chain for a long time now and I know what to expect in food portions. I had a very bad experience with the customer service during my last visit. I was barely given any meat (smaller than what you would expect from a kid's meal) and thought it was just an accident. I took my plate back to the counter and explained the problem. I noticed that the manager, Neal, who must be new because I've never seen him before, called a group meeting with three other employees, while they stared at the plate I had given back to them. He was lecturing to them and shaking his head. They gave me a new plate with exactly the same very little amount of food. I decided to speak directly to the manager about it. He was unresponsive, rude, and didn't care to make the situation better. I ended up just asking for my money back. The manager ended up throwing away two plates of food and lost a customer. The place isn't fantastic, but it is decent. Decent enough for me to go back repeatedly due to their convenient parking, relatively speedy food prep, etc. I usually go for the Texas BBQ ribs with potato salad and Willy's beans as sides. The Texas toast is tasty and goes well with everything else on the plate. Table offers two kinds of sauce--mild and jalapeno. I would go with jalapeno just to give it a little zing, but mild is decent and goes well with the toast. I have also had their beef brisket, which I find a little dry, and their Cajun links. There's nothing here I've had that I have hated, but it's not, you know, amazing. And just health-wise, going back too often is probably not recommended. But if you are craving this type of food, you could do a lot worse than Armadillo Willy's. read more

They have THE BEST cornbread. I ordered from them from a delivery app and was so happy with what I got. They even gave me an extra rib! I will for sure be ordering from them from now on. I've tried other BBQ spots but, they were either really small pieces of meat or over cooked and dry. This place cooked it perfectly. It wasn't dry and the flavor was great. I have been going to Armadillo Willys for over 10 years. During that time, the prices has been steadily rising and the quality is clearly going down. I used to eat or order out from Armadillo Willys used to be 2-3 times per month and is now down to just a few times per year. The price/value relationship has gotten way out of whack. On the flip side, there are improvements in service and local store management, so my interpretation is that local management is helping offset dysfunctional home office decisions on quality and pricing. read more

honestly, not bad for bbq outside of texas. the husband was having a serious hankering for some bbq after watching man v. food. but, hello! we live in the peninsula and really there's not much out there...so, what do you do when you want to try something out with as little risk as possible? you find a chain! armadillo willy's didn't let down. there were 3 of us so we ordered the "belly buster" which comes with babyback ribs (moist), texas bbq ribs (less moist), chicken (some dry, some perfect), brisket (a little dry), pork roast (perfect), and cajun andouille sausage (good) with 3 sides (1 cornbread with cinnamon butter - good, 2 baked beans - good, 3 cole slaw - fine). overall, we'd come here again. oh, and the bbq sauce was tangy, but not the best, but good. read more

When I 1st came here I of course tried out the ribs and they were quite tasty. Loved the sauce and how they were cooked but there is a lack of meat on those bones. Then when I came back numerous times, I experimented with various burgers that were all very mediocre. I could never find a burger that really stood out so that was a let down. Some BBQ are about the marinates and some are about the sauces ... I prefer the marinate one. So with that being said, I came here for lunch and ordered the pit smoked boneless chicken. For the price, it came with 2 pieces of tender chicken doused in bbq sauce which was slightly smokey and slightly peppery. I chose the fries and texas corn salad as my sides. I had armadillo willys over ten years ago and just recently went back a few weeks ago and it was just as good as I remember if not better. The chicken, st louis ribs, and brisket were all great. My personal favorite was the brisket because it was super tender and juicy. The place was really clean and I enjoyed watching college hoop on their big screens. First time I had AW, I was impressed with their spicy peanut cole slaw, I'm not a slaw person but this is an exceptiopn. I usually eat the BBQ Chicken (dark meat only) with their spicy sauce and I'm satisfied all the time. The turkey (serve in 1/4 slices) is good too, not dry. Their corn muffins are great aone or with honey butter. I haven't tried their hamburgers or salad. I hear (from co-workers) that the pulled pork and beef were good. Pork & beans are good too. after hearing my boyfriend rant and rave about this place for 7 months, i decided to try it. it helps that he lives right across the way, so it was a decent walk to the place. I love how they give you two plate sizes, so if you're not that hungry but craving some meat, you can get your fill without having most of it togo. No, instead you order right away and sit down and when u buzz, you go to the counter to pick it up. the side salad isn't impressive, but the corn salad and the corn muffin is bombdiggity. I recently re-discovered Armadillo Willy's when having lunch in San Jose. Their brisket sandwich is delish! Texas Tots are awesome, even if I wish I'd never found them. Then, one night I went and got the ribs for dinner. Really good. I like so many choices of BBQ sauce and you can get a little salad to add some greens to you ribs plate. Very casual, laid back place. Fast food bbq. They have "daily specials" that are only served on that one day. They used to have fish tacos everyday, but now it is the Wednesday special. Too bad, I only come on Sundays. I do like the french fries here. The garlic fries are garlicky, but get without the parmesan (dry, packaged stuff). read more
