We ordered takeout and received an outtake. We paid good money to receive ribs with little meat, burnt links, cold fries, and less than tasty cole slaw. It's obvious we recieved leftovers from the day(s) before. We couldn't help wondering if things might have been better had we eaten there rather than taking it home. i was very dissapointed in the portion size of the ribs and chicken dinner i ordered. C'mon $20 dollars for two pieces of chicken and a dried up ribs was well not worth it. I complained to the manager that the portion sizes were to small for the price. I was stunned that he actually agreed with me. I will not be going there again. Save your money. read more

sides are lame. don't even bother with them. just try the ribs. The ribs are like slow cooked so that consumers get the most taste out of the meat. But it taste like its undercooked for bbq. I like my bbq to be burnt, so that you know it was thrown onto the fire. read more

This place is so good! I have never tried their dinner plates only sandwiches, sides and salads. Employees are so friendly and food is really good. Gets a bit too crowded at night and it seems to be very kid friendly with kids running around and screaming so I prefer take out. If you let your kids run around in restaurants this might be a good place to sit down for dinner. Usually lunch time weekdays or weekends is quieter with polite kids, parents and good food! I would like this place if it were cheaper only because, it's only ok. You order your food and pay for it at the counter. Not usually a typical thing when you're paying $15+ for a combo platter. The food was ok. I wouldn't call it exciting. Personally, I've much better BBQ at the mall if you can believe that. This was such an unexpected surprise--my husband and I were shopping in the mall, and starving, not wanting to drive out. We went in, thinking it was a dicey move--fast food BBQ, right? We ordered baby back ribs and a bunch of sides, plus their garlic bread. Wow wow--the flavors were astonishingly fresh, exploding with freshness, and tasted so well crafted, no shortcuts. We loved everything and though we didn't actually intend to eat it all, polished off all. Though the interior was neat, clean and inviting in a dark clubby way, we sat outside on the patio on a beautiful sunny day, so wonderful. The meat was perfectly smoked and tender falling off the bone, the bread crusty and flaky, buttery, the salads crispy and crunchy. The customer service was ridiculous--we loved our cashier, who advised us exactly what and how much to order, pointing to the more economical option and being endlessly patient with my indecision :-) The prices are perfectly on point . . . the excellent customer service went a very long way with me, and we'll definitely be back! read more

I have several posts on different barbecue places an armadillo willies is by far are the top of the list of consistent well prepared food with great service. i guess this place is as good as it can get for a chained bbq place. the ribs were ok, they needed to trim the fat off the ribs thats for sure. the cornbread is not bad and the potato salad seemed to taste rather bought than homemade. overall this establishment is not a bad place since it has nice outdoor seating and has plenty of parking in the plaza. read more

Went here before heading over to Oakland tonight to watch a concert. I completely ignored All you can eat Ribs Mondays and ordered a Baja Taco. I was completely surprised on the taste and texture of the tacos. The fish was perfectly battered and fried. As i bit into the taco, I was surprised to find melted cheese beneath the fish which gave it a nice creamy addition to the taco. The flour tortilla would have been nice if it was grilled. I felt like they just warmed the tortilla up in an oven. Next time, I'll make sure to go on a Monday to eat all you can ribs. read more

I've eaten here before a long time ago for my friend's birthday remembering that I didn't like it all that much, but the only reason Jan & I went here was because we wanted to try Mack's Barbeque in San Carlos, but it was closed for the whole week unfortunately for some reason... didn't read the whole notice for why it was closed for the week... totally sucked ass cuz I drove ALL THE WAY there looking forward to it so I drove there for nothing! Rip! Anyways, since Jan was craving barbeque I decided to just go here one more time even though I told him about my first experience there a long time ago. I ordered the brisket sandwich w/corn bread while Jan ordered the 18 hour brisket big plate w/beans, texas toast & fries (which was $1 extra). What disappointed me was that i had BARELY any meat on my sandwich. It was mostly just bread. Jan's food took awhile & when it was finally done, we saw that his brisket was HELLA dry looking & was chewy rather than being moist & tender & they overcooked his fries till it was like chips so he had to take it back for a new batch. It was still crispy, but not as bad as the first batch they gave him. Their barbeque sauce was ok not anything to rave about. The place is big & has a cool atmosphere though. All I gotta say is DO NOT COME HERE if you want some barbeque! read more

Armadillo Willy's is the best fast food BBQ restaurant that we really enjoy for a pretty plentiful and cheap dinner. The only knock that I have is that the baby back ribs are pretty inconsistent. The flavor's are there and their BBQ sauce is pretty damn good but there were a few times the ribs were fall off the bone good and other times I needed a Mechamouthful of mercury filled razor'd edged set of chiclets to separate meat from bone. The 18 hour brisket is smoky just the way I like it and the chopped beef brisket with little globules of fat add the right flavor filling in every bite. The corn salad and corn muffin are my favorites and to spice things up they have a readily available bottle of habanero spicy sauce and alternative jalepeno BBQ sauce. The warm BBQ sauce adds some flavor to every dish and of course the Texas toast is great to make a brisket or chopped brisket sandwich. Oh and when we are really hungry the buffalo boneless wings do the trick. Wash it down with some Sobe lean grapefruit mixed with raspberry lemonade and you have a pleased belly and recharged to make it a nice little saturday go to home depot buy some wall paper or maybe go to bed bath and beyond if you have time read more

Used to come here almost weekly, but much less so now. I think the offerings are excellent & usually nicely done. If something's not quite right, there's a manager on shift that will at least try to rectify it. This place may not be Texas but I think they're as close as possible locally. But over time, there has been a slight decline in quality & a greater one in portion size. Higher prices, naturally, go with that. The menu is a little more complex with side option pricing; a little annoying. Management committed a big sin to its customers a little over 2 years ago when they eliminated the reward program without notice. Many customers were left with unused rewards. At the time, they claimed a new program was coming, but never has. Inexcusable. Recommend for Sat burger special only & an occasional Texas rib or brisket. Otherwise, don't bother. read more

i agree that this place doesn't deserve the crap reviews...stick with the memphis pork (used to be the pulled pork) and the wet ribs(which seems to be added as of late) and you're good to go. oh and don't forget to get a corn muffin. read more

I had to go to San Mateo for something work related and one of my coworkers told me to check out this place. I ordered the 18 hr BBQ brisket sandwich with the sweet potato fries. Honestly, I had my doubts at first because this restaurant is a chain...but I am pleased to say that it is DELICIOUS. The sandwich was not huge, but it was definitely filling. the chipotle BBQ is BOMB though!! My friend ordered the Ultimate BBQ Burger and THAT was MONSTROUS and looked so mouthwatering. As a born and raised Texan, I can easily say this is the best Texas BBQ I've had in California. And everyone knows the BBQ is better in Texas, right? The meat is flavorful, the sauce is great (a little tangy, a little sweet, with a spicier option), and the sides are plentiful (I recommend the sweet potato fries). had the full slab texas ribs family plate ribs were excellent, good smokey flavor and tender, beans as well, lots of chunks of pork and beef. the corn bread is to die for, best corn bread ever by a wide margin, comes w cinnamon butter which is great. peanut slaw very good. 4 bbq sauces served on the side, honey, hot sauce $32 for a full slab, 2 giants bowls of sides and 4 corn muffins, can't beat it love it read more

Went to Armadillo Willy's BBQ yesterday for dinner. We went at around 4 pm. It wasnt that busy. I ordered the Griddled Burger, which wasn't as good as it usually was. It was a little overcooked I think. For my drink, I just got a raspberry lemonade from the soda fountain. My mom ordered a BBQ chicken sandwich with a side salad. She enjoyed her meal a lot. My dad got the mushroom swiss burger, also with a side salad. He also enjoyed his meal. As a family, we shared the tater tots. These were really good, as they always are. Overall, our experience was good. We didnt have to wait that long for our buzzer to go off to let us know that our food was ready, and I like the "self-serve" process they have- in other words, they don't have waiters going around to take your orders and get you refills of your drinks- you just order at the counter, and then get your drinks yourself. Overall, the food was good. I probably would return with my family again whenever we are in the Bridgepointe shopping center, and have a craving for BBQ. Would recommend if you like BBQ food like ribs and stuff, and you can handle being independent with getting your own drinks. read more

Haven't been to armadillos in years and decided to go for lunch since I was in the area. The service here was good and the meal was made pretty quick. The thing that was a little disconcerting was the portion size. For the amount you pay for the small platters are a little bit of a rip off. For $10 I got the beef brisket. For that, I received 3 pieces of brisket and and a more generous side salad. Not only did they kind of skimp me on the brisket, they over cook their meat as well. Some of the toughest brisket I've ate. Overall, time and service is great, just need to prep and cook meat a little better and be a little more generous for their small platter price. read more

The spare ribs and chicken were so dry and so bland. I tried to fix my meal in adding some salt and pepper and dressed them with so much bbq sauce. The bbq sauce wasn't even that great. I love Armadillo Willys! The food is wonderful, and I buy the sauces by the bottle. I don't like the new decor. All the nostalgia and character is gone. We used to read all the signs while we were waiting for the food. When I told people about Willy's, one of the things I bragged about was the old signs. One thing I do like is that it's not so noisy. When I ate alone, I got it to go. They've changed the music - it doesn't blare anymore. I have friends that don't want to go back because of the noise.
