Been to Armando's more than 10 times within the last year. Today I have the worst experience. The manager/owner was one the rudest people I have ever met in my life. My sisters & I walked into the restaurant & a staff member pointed to a table for us to sit and didn't even walk us to our table. The manager/owner was our waitress. She shorted us our margarita drinks and when we questioned it she began arguing with us and blaming her staff member who made the drinks. I've passed by this building so many times but I finally got to check it out! Their empanadas were AMAZING. Perfectly crisp and savory in the inside. I am not a big fan of enchiladas but their enchiladas were pretty good and not too heavy. Their lobster tacos were very unique from other lobster tacos I have tried. The food is slamming!! I got to try the Valenciana paella and it's and amazing mixture of chicken sausage shrimp calamari...it's a must try!!! And the margaritas are on point freshly made. Consistently good food, good drinks, and great service run by good people. Been a long time customer and bring all out of towners here. My brother says the lobster enchiladas are the greatest thing he has ever eaten, and has traveled all over the country. My Los Angeles friends loved the sangria margaritas. The enchiladas are a work of art just to look at! Arroz con pollo is amazing. We came here during lunch so I didn't have a chance to try the margaritas. They were very attentive to our large party and quickly replenished our chips and drinks. FOOD: We started with the complimentary chips and salsa which were good. I had the steak tacos with the jalapeno sauce on the side. Very good. The two tacos with the plentiful of rice and black beans were very filling. I also had their lobster tacos which were full of lobster meat, fried peppers, and grilled onions. The Jamaican sauce that I asked for on the side was a little sweet for my taste. Also a great choice. Had I read the other yelpers' reviews I would've tried the paella. read more

I'm surprised and slightly disappointed at myself for not review this place. My parents are in love with this restaurant and it's only a short drive from our house. Located in a small strip mall, Armando's definitely fulfills that "don't judge a book by its cover" look for a small non-chain restaurant. Their atmosphere is decorated with your typical cheesy tex-mex attire mixed in with some Spanish music, and two big screen TV's usually turned onto soccer or some sort of sport. It's a strange "On the Border" meets "Taco Mac", and the staff is usually friendly. They get strangely busy, the last time I was there it was a torrential downpour (as per usual of Georgia) and there must have been 9 or 10 different tables being seated. I'll explain why. Unlike the big chain restaurants like "On the Border" and "Taco Mac" this small restaurant packs a punch with its food by serving traditional Tex Mex food with a bit of a different twist. I've had numerous things on their menu including their Paella, Tuna and Tilapia Tacos, Shrimp and Spinach Quesadilla, and Tuna Steak (Hey, I said I came here often). I will tell you not once was I disappointed in their service or cooking. Their tuna and tilapia are excellently seared with a nice light tangy cream sauce and cabbage on a flour tortilla. Even their salsa served free is relatively well made. Friendly service and it's at a relatively reasonable price, I'm sure I, and my parents, will continue to go to this restaurant singing its praise. It's a bit out of the way, and is awkwardly located on the end of a strip mall but if you're in Johns Creek and feel like some Mexican, don't look towards the standard and try out this small business for a change. read more

My husband and I stopped in on a whim, and I look forward to returning. It was late afternoon and too early for dinner, so we just split the lobster taco and a half-pitcher of the Texas margarita. Both were excellent. They serve chips and salsa to start, and their chips are too thick for my liking, and the salsa was blah. But the menu looked fabulous, and the food we ordered was quite good. I will be back for sure. The ambiance is confused. It's Caribbean or Jimmy Buffett or Latin American all combined. On each visit, I remember why I love this place! The food is great (I get tacos and my husband gets the arroz con pollo), the staff is friendly (they always interact with my son) and the drinks are amazing (all are good but the margaritas are the best). Our first visit was for my birthday with our then less than a year old son. They were very nice to our son which means a lot to us, especially since we now have two kids. The service used to be slow, nobody greets you when you come in so you have to wait around & wonder if you sit yourself or what? Try the Valencia Paella. You will be back. Beware of the squid. It's the small variety with tentacles. If you don't like that I'd suggest asking them to leave that out. Served in a cast iron skillet over yellow rice. It's not the super liquids paella that you find in some areas. The flavor is fantastic. They do seafood very well. Actually they do everything very well. We haven't had a dish we weren't impressed with. They can get very busy in the evening. They have a lunch special for each day. Pro tip: watch where you are sitting the windows high up catch the setting sun like mad. Sit in the wrong spot and you will be squinting the entire meal. read more

My new favorite Mexican restaurant in Georgia! I met a couple friends at Armando's for dinner on a weeknight, and I was so happy with the restaurant choice. The service was good, and the food was amazing! My friends were skeptical of the slightly higher prices ($12 burrito), but the food is completely worth it. The portions are generous, and the server showered us in unlimited chips and salsa. The food took a while to come out, but the chips and salsa kept us satisfied until the main course. Both my friends ordered the beef burrito, which came with black beans and yellow rice, and they both loved it. I ordered the Pollo a la Parrilla as recommended on Yelp. It also came with a side of black beans and yellow rice. Let me just say... this is literally the best grilled chicken I have ever had! So juicy and tender, and the seasoning is on point! I finished off the entire dish with a smile on my face. I will definitely be back to try their tacos and paella, which seem to have great reviews as well! Latin American restaurant with GREAT service. Their salsa is super fresh and comes with cilantro, just the way I like it. I ordered two steak tacos and the steak was marinated well and didn't make the soft tacos soggy. Also, it came with a boat load of rice and beans for just about $8 (no drink). But that combined with the chips and salsa were more than enough to fill me up for two meals. I really don't get how anyone can have a bad experience here. The waitstaff is so obliging that if you even lifted an eyebrow at something they served they would be off in a flash to make it right. If I ever see a less than stellar review of the place, I kind of take it personally. Ok I'll summer donna. I can't compare their paella to paella in Barcelona or their Bistec Cubano to the whole in the wall place in Little Havana, but this is Gwinnett County and this place is consistently good in all areas. My family and I used to come eat here at least once a week. We have not returned since November and decided to pay a visit. We realized the restaurant DRASTICALLY altered all minor details. Food prices rose, service became neglectful (as one of the reviews down below mentioned), and we had our first issues. We ordered their world-class tostones and when we recieved them they were burnt. Coming from Colombian decent, we KNOW how tostones are supposed to look like and taste. We sent them back and 10 minutes later our server tells us that the cook said, "That's what they're supposed to look like". This response was unacceptable and very disappointing. We wanted to talk to the manager and the server said he had already left. As sad as this sound: We will never come back again. So unless you're okay with burnt tostones and a dishonored staff... Nice vibe and good (not great) food. I've tried paella, tacos, fajitas, etc. They are overpriced in my opinion, but they do offer daily food and drink specials. Fajitas at dinnertime run around $17. Paella costs more. I wish La Fonda was up here. They have awesome paella for $11 and it tastes better. read more

Oooohhhhhhh baby this is the best authentic Mexican food I have ever had. The Arroz con pollo (rice with chicken) is to die for. All the flavors in this dish is perfect.
